ave we got some exciting things going on here at Cowgirls In Style Magazine! This is one of our biggest issues ever, filled with wedding, summer and everything Cowgirl fun! To start off, it is our Bridal issue which we have combined with our Summer issue. Never have we combined such two great issues together, but with the untimely arrival of the COVID-19, we decided to forgo the Spring issue which is usually our weddings issue and combine it with our summer! And it turned out to be the best idea! We are so excited to be featuring trick rider, Haley Ganzel-Proctor with her rodeo husband Shane. We have featured their wedding in this issue and it is gorgeous. We have been able to feature some pretty lovely brides on the past covers of CIS Magazine, from Shay Fisher-,Durfey, Quincy Freeman-Eldridge and many more! Check out her interview along with her gorgeous photos. We also have some new writers and columns in CIS that we are pretty stoked about. Welcome Joelle Souzam the Aloha Cowgirl and in this issue we have a guest writer, Miss Rodeo Nevada,

Combine 1 cup of the water with raw honey and cook over medium-high heat until the honey is dissolved, then transfer out of the sauce pan and allow to cool. Set this aside because we’ll be using it in a little bit. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the bottom of a pitcher, followed by imple honey syrup, and then fill the remainder of the pitcher up with the remaining 5 cups water. Stir to combine.
COVID-19 Cancellations
Extra Extra
With the COVID-19 Virus many venues have been cancelled for the coming months... It is hard to believe that it has been over three long months of either lockdown, or quarantine with the COVID-19 virus. And with it all comes many, many cancellations from sports venues, concerts, Broadway, to rodeo and much more. We are saddened to report that the CMA Music Fest that was scheduled for June 4-7 has been cancelled, along with the Miss Rodeo America Pageant that was
scheduled in December has been cancelled. Many more venues as well have been cancelled and at the time of this publication, we are still waiting to hear about the National Finals Rodeo that is held every year in Vegas. We are holding out hope that it might continue, but we wait to hear the news.

Stable Life -By Pauline Smith-
AGE VERSUS
GETTING OLDER CAN MAKE YOU TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT WHAT TYPE OF HORSE YOU SHOULD BUY
Y
ou’ve loved horses all your life, maybe you did some trail riding as a teenager and maybe you had the chance to re-kindle your love of horses later in life. Then the day came in your late 50’s you had the opportunity to buy your first horse. Are you to old to take on this beautiful, majestic, powerful animal? In my opinion, you are not, I say that because I moved to the country at 57 and bought my first horse at 58. What did I consider when I was choosing my horse? First I thought of what I was capable of physically. With that in mind, I thought I wouldn’t want a horse over 15 hands, anything larger than that makes for a bigger fall and possible broken bones. My second consideration was the horses age and temperament, a nice old bombproof horse that I could ease myself back into riding with. Then there is breed. I wasn’t fussy about breed, purely because as a teenager I rode a lot of different breeds, and how calm a horse is, is more about how they are trained and treated not the breed. I was thinking Quarter horse or Standardbred. I leased a Standardbred in my late 30’s and he was very calm, but he could be very stubborn. One breed I 26| Cowgirls In Style | SUMMER 2020
never considered was a Thoroughbred. I thought this breed may be way over my head and from what I’d seen watching horse racing, my thought was far too highly strung for me. After taking all of the above into consideration, I started looking for my dream horse, and I found him. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with a horse I found in an ad on Facebook. This is where I started questioning my sanity, this horse is 16.1 hands, 11 yr old off the track, Thoroughbred. He hadn’t been ridden since his racing days and I didn’t even know if he was sound.
“I used to ride fiesty horses, but I was sixteen, not fifty eight.”

LOVE OF HORSES

STABLE LIFE
The truth is I didn’t care, I fell in love with the horse in the ad and I fell even more in love when I met him. Yeah, so he’s a Thoroughbred, he needs re-educating and as a pleasure horse, he is green, but so am I. I used to ride feisty horses, but I was sixteen, not fifty eight... So I ask myself, “What were you thinking?” My answer is, I wasn’t thinking, I just knew this boy was for me. So now the next question is, am I too green and too old take on this mammoth task to get my horse sound enough to work with and eventually ride? If I had no experience with horses at all then perhaps it may be too big a task for me. If there was no such thing as the internet then again it may be too big a task for me. The thing is, I believe I can do this and I love and trust my boy and I know he loves and trusts me. Another thing to consider is fitness. I am not too unfit, but to start groundwork I need to step up my fitness which I am working on now. Age is just a number, if you have the passion, the love and the commitment nothing is impossible. Learn to read your horse and listen to him and always make safety a priority. Horses are big, powerful animals and are capable of doing us some serious damage, even if accidentally.

SADDLE UP IN HAWAII!
It’s summer! Let’s talk about working Ranches in Hawaii to visit. If you’re a cowgirl looking to travel and have the dream Hawaii vacation of riding horses on the beach, then Kauai, Hawaii is your go to destination.
H
awaii is very popular for its beaches, surfing, waterfalls, coconut trees, tropical flower leis and of course hula girls. That’s what makes Hawaii paradise. But Hawaii also has a side that very few know about. Hawaii’s rich cowboy culture. Cowboys, trucks and gooseneck trailers, ranches and cattle are probably the last thing people expect to see here in Hawaii. Many seem a little surprised when they hear about the cowboy (Paniolo) lifestyle here on the islands. Hawaii is a very western state and the cowboy way is a way of life for many who live here on the islands. The western lifestyle is passed down by generation to generation to keep the Paniolo way and lifestyle here in Hawaii alive.
gifted 5 cattle to King Kamahameha I. The king then placed a Kapu (Law) on the killing of cattle. Within a few decades, Hawaii’s land was filled with roaming wild cattle. In 1812, King Kamehameha granted John Parker a license to hunt the cattle and he eventually domesticated them and helped establish ranching as a major industry in Hawaii. They also trained the Hawaiians to become cowboys. People were shocked when Hawaiian Cowboys from Parker Ranch, ( The Largest Ranch in Hawaii) Waimea Hawaii won a world rodeo championship in 1908.

The ALOHA COWGIRL Joelle Alohalani
@thealohacowgirl Joelle was born and raised on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. “Hawaii’s lifestyle was always very western. I love hearing stories about the old plantation days in Hawaii when there were hardly any cars on the road and they used horses and carriages,” she said. “We have beautiful beaches and all, and when most people think of Hawaii they automatically think coconuts and pineapples, not knowing that we have deep roots in the western way of life.” Joelle’s family (papa and great papa) worked on a cattle ranch in Kauai, and she grew up with a love for cattle and horses. Joelle recently moved stateside and got involved in the western fashion industry. She has been asked to be a brand rep for a number of boutiques & brands and blog for Kimes Ranch Jeans. She has been invited to walk in a few denim & velvet fashion shows at the NFR and The All American Rodeo held in Texas. After moving back to Kauai, Hawaii she kept her love for western fashion alive and opened Hawaii’s first western fashion boutique on the island of Kauai. Being inspired by the western fashion shows she then decided to go for it and host Hawaii’s first western fashion show at the Koloa Plantation Days in 2019. Her fashion shows have been growing and spreading across the Hawaiian islands and catching the eyes of well established rodeos & western fashion brands, including magazines. “I started this in hopes to connect with other influencers and western brands across the state and thought it was a great way to get the local girls of the islands involved & feel confident. I’d never thought it would take off so soon, this is so fresh in Hawaii and people here love fresh. I am truly blessed by all the amazing companies that have reached out to me. I’m still very new at this and working on content and planning fashion shows hasn’t been that easy but I put my whole heart into what I do to produce great content and shows for these brands.” She says she hopes to be an inspiration to all women and spread the message that’s there’s nothing wrong with being confident and loving yourself, even though we are from a little island. You can still go after your dreams no matter how small or big your dreams are.

hen you envision your dreams, very seldom do you think of all the twists and turns you will take to get there. It was no different when Kaely Juzek was crowned Miss Rodeo Nevada. Unlike those before her, her journey was going to be very different. Kaely has not let that hold her back. She has embraced the changes that have come with Covid 19. Although she has not been able to attend rodeos, and has been unable to go to school visits, she has continued to support her state through social media.

Sundays, she highlights her sponsors, who make all of this possible. Mondays, posts are teaching about equine science, PRCA, rodeo contestants, NFR, and all things rodeo. Trivia Tuesdays highlight the great state of Nevada. Thursdays are for the kids! Kaely is dedicated this day to making her elementary school visits accessible online. Friday’s posts are, “where are they now?” Highlighting the past Miss Rodeo Nevada’s, and how being a state title holder helped them with their future. Kaely has also had the opportunity to be a part of the podcast shoot talk with Thomas Duncan. She was also able to be a clinician for the Miss Wilderness Circuit clinic. When Kaely is not busy being a queen on social media, she is preparing for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant 2020 in December. Quaran-

tine has allowed her to spend several hours studying all things Rodeo, and reading cover to cover on her ProRodeo Sports News. Being home allows her to spend lots of quality time in the saddle. Of course, it’s not the same as riding in a rodeo, but, a day spent in the saddle, is always a good day. This year has been different. There is no hiding that. Kaely is a firm believer in taking what God gives you and making the best of it. Kaely believes that this is a way to possibly access more people through social media who have less knowledge about Rodeo and the western way of life. That possibly wouldn’t have happened if she was going from Rodeo to Rodeo all the time. Overall, she believes that quarantine may help the sport of Rodeo grow bigger and better than ever.

Finding The Perfect Ring
-News USA
U
nsure how to choose the right engagement ring? Read on for all the tools you need to make the perfect pick!
choosing an engagement ring can be exciting and overwhelming. However, the following tips will help you in finding the ideal diamond engagement ring. 66| Cowgirls In Style | SUMMER 2020
Learn the 4 C’s of diamonds. These are: cut, color, clarity, and carat. Here’s the translation: Cut: The cut of a diamond is the most important factor in determining its fire, brilliance, and sparkle. Color: Not all diamonds are clear; some have varying tints of yellow. Clarity: A measure of the number of flaws or inclusions in the stone. Carat: A measure of the weight of the diamond. However, more weight also indicates a bigger size. Consider shape. The common diamond shapes used in engagement rings are round, cushion, pear, oval, princess, radiant, and emerald. Each of these shapes has its fans and distinctive features. For example, a round diamond is the classic engagement ring style, but the larger facets of a cushion style can enhance brilliance, and the elongated emerald cut presents a bold look that can make a diamond appear larger than its carat weight. Set your price limit. Before you start shopping, know how much you want to spend. There is no right or wrong amount to put toward a ring, and many beautiful stones and styles are available to suit any budget. It’s important to note that labgrown diamonds can be up to 40 percent less expensive than mined stones. Choose a setting.Deciding the right setting or diamond shape for your stone is a personal decision. Some people have specific ideas for a setting, and take more time on the stone, or vice versa.
template your center stone. When it comes to your center stone, there are a few different options to choose from. Although diamonds are the most popular, birthstones, moissanite, and cubic zirconia are also great budget-friendly options. In regards to diamonds, there are two types to choose from: mined diamonds and lab-created diamonds. While mined diamonds are extractedfrom the earth, lab-grown stones are guaranteed to be ethically sourced and, as mentioned above, up to 40 percent less expensive. Both types are identical in terms of chemistry and physical appearance. However, interest in lab-created diamonds has surged in recent years as more couples are concerned with sustainability, as well as beauty and romance.
However, not all settings accommodate all shapes so it’s important to prioritize one or the other if you are set on a particular shape or setting.Typical engagement ring styles include the solitaire, a simple band that showcases any diamond shape; halo, in which a central stone is surrounded by smaller diamonds; classic, which features a row of accent diamonds along the ring band; and vintage, which replicates design styles from different time periods. edding days are meant to be filled with love and celebration, and what better way to ring in the new stage of life as newlyweds than with a well-decorated venue to match the joyous occasion. Whether a couple is on a tight budget or picky when it comes to theme ideas, these decorating tips can help add more flair for the big day.
you are not having a formal sit-down reception, try using paper lanterns or hanging flowers from the ceiling to create an eye-catching atmosphere to remember. -Add classic lighting.
