Bear Knuckles Gloves Savoring Christmas
Bear Knuckles have launched new gloves made espe cially for women. After selling hundreds of thousands of gloves for hardworking men and women, they got a lot of feedback from their female customers requesting a glove made for them. If you are working hard around the farm or ranch, you’ve likely noticed that most leather work gloves have long fingers and large sizes. That’s why Bear Knuckles developed sizes specifically for a women’s hand which come in size Extra Small (XS) and Extra Small Pe tite (XSP).
From Bear Knuckles, “We took hand size sampling from 100 women and found that the majority of women have much shorter fingers and smaller hands than men. They are working alongside men doing all the same tough and dirty jobs and want a glove that works with them, not against them.”
Bear Knuckles gloves have 3 design patents and have re invented the leather work glove. Most gloves take 2 flat pieces of leather and sew in a seam whereas Bear Knuck les design for the natural curve of your hand. Best of all, there’s no break-in period because the gloves are premade to grip and bend. The fit doesn’t fight against the leather. What you get is a comfortable yet tough, ergonomic glove that lasts x2 as long because you’re not stretching out the seams and stitching.

Shanna Hatfield’s latest Rodeo Romance Book #10! Here’s a little peek at the storyline...
He’s a former rodeo star who gave up his career to run the family ranch. She’s an aspiring chef with a food truck, a dream, and no interest in another man coming along to ruin her plans.
Troy Lucas walked away from his winning rodeo ca reer to run the family ranch after the death of his grandfather. Now, being a rancher, a farrier, and even team roping just for fun can’t seem to keep him satisfied. He didn’t think he’d miss his glory days in the rodeo when he came back home - in fact, there’s nowhere else he’d rather be. Still, he can’t deny the hole inside that keeps reminding him he’s longing for something . . . more.

“Read A Book, Help A Cowboy!”
I absolutely love what Shanna Hatfield does each year, “Read A Book, Help A Cowboy,” Campaign. If you buy one of Shanna’s books through December 24th, she will donate 10% of all her net book proceeds to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The JCCF is a non-profit organization that assists rodeo athletes who have sustained catastrophic in juries and are unable to work for an extended period. The JCCF steps in and steps up, offering support to injured cowboys until they can get back on their feet and back to competing. It’s a wonderful thing for the rodeo athletes to be able to heal without being overwhelmed by financial worries. The other great thing about the JCCF is that they dedicate one hundred percent of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants without any administrative fees being subtracted. When you donate $1, that whole dollar goes directly into the fund.
You can find Shanna’s books in digital, paperback, hardback, and audio formats. She writes sweet historical and contemporary romance, rural humor. She has also written a children’s book, cookbooks, and entertaining guides.
You can find her books at, Amazon, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Apple, Audible, Books a Mil lion. Go to her website at www.shannahatfield.com

cis Q’s & A’s
By: susan gentry Photos: Art of Aperture
Cowgirls In style: Where are you from?
Hailey Frederiksen: When I am home, I get to call my fam ily’s ranch in Wellington, Colorado home sweet home!
CIs: How many horses do you have and have you ridden horses all of your life?
H.F.: I have grown up in the saddle, riding right alongside my parents my entire life. We have six American Quarter Horses that we use for barrels, team roping and breakaway.
CIs: What are your hobbies, interests outside of rodeo?
H.F.: When you’ve grown up within this industry and are just as passionate as I am about it, you have very little time to pick up any other hobby. I grew up barrel racing with my mom and have now worked my way to the box and am learning how to rope with my dad. I held my very first title in 2009 as the Johnstown Saddle Club Princess, and oddly enough didn’t compete for this title but rather offered; I was willing to give it a try and haven’t looked back since. There was a time in my life where I took a step back from horses and devoted my self to dance, where I danced competitively for a studio and eventually worked my way up to become a professional cheer leader for a hockey team. But once a cowgirl, always a cow girl, and I got back in the saddle my junior year of college.
CIs: What is the hardest part of the competition?
H.F.: The hardest part of competition is not losing yourself. Ev eryone talks about the mold that you have to form yourself to, and that’s not the case. The Judges are not looking for a cookie cutter queen, they’re looking for the wonderfully and beauti fully made unique self that all of us girls are. As contestants, we receive so many opinions about who we should be or how we should act, but at the end of the day we know ourselves better than anyone else. I’ve always said, “be yourself; everyone else is already taken” (Oscar Wilde).
CIs: What has been some of the most rewarding experiences you have had this past year?
H.F.: I was once inspired by the women who have held this title, and I made it a personal goal of mine to pay it forward and be that inspiration to someone else; and I have done just that! (Continued...)
the Judges are not looking for a cookie cutter queen, they’re looking for the wonderfully and beautifully made unique self that all of us girls are.
Hailey Frederiksen Miss Rodeo America 2022
I have come to realize that what may be small mo ments for me may be a big moment for others, and could change the trajectory of their life; just as it had done for me. I have many experiences like this and will forever cherish those moments I have created with others!
CIs: What has been the most challenging?
H.F.:The most challenging would have to be being away from my family as much as I have been. I am an only child, along with both of my parents, so we are a very tight knit family that does practically everything together. However, it has been amazing getting to share this once-ina-lifetime oppor tunity with them because we have been in this together from day one!
CIs: We love your fash ion. What are some of your favorite brands and styles you like to wear?
H.F.: I have been considered the most fashionable, and as much as I would argue that I defi nitely have found my personal style and some go-to looks as I travel from rodeo to rodeo. Whether I’m flying or in the saddle, I love a good Wrangler button down and jeans. My favorite of theirs has been their new retro line! If I’m wanting to dress up for an appearance I can always count on Double D Ranchwear. They have so many cute styles to choose from and should be a staple in anyone’s closet! I’m also all about owning versatile pieces that go with anything, and that’s where Justin Boots and Montana Silversmiths come in. In the arena or at a formal event, I am ready to walk into any room with a smile and confidence when I’m dressed in my favorite Justin Boots and Montana Silversmiths. And being a Colorado gal, you can’t forget a Greeley Hat
Works hat. They sponsored me with an array of colors to match any outfit!
CIs: What advice would you give girls who are want ing to get involved in rodeo pageantry?
H.F.: For those wanting to be a part of the rodeo queen community, my biggest advice to you is to just say yes! I have tried to live life having no regrets, to look back and wish I would’ve just said yes to an opportunity or experience. I say, if you are thinking of wanting to try out for a title, just say yes and go for it! Also, the greatest advice I could share with any one wanting to enter to chase their dreams is to simply be yourself.
I promise you, things will become easier and more fun to do if you just be yourself.
CIs: What are your plans once your reign is complete?
H.F.: I have ac complished my first dream job and now I am about to land my second dream job. At the start of the new year I will join the Cow boy Channel team and continue to promote and preserve the western lifestyle that I am so extremely passionate about. I am beyond excited to start this next chapter in my life and eager to fur ther grow this industry!

Musician and author of “dear cowgirl: Letters to Women,” Adrian Brannan grew up before the western world’s eyes as a singer. Cowgirls In Style Magazine: So good to catch up with you! Could you tell us a bit about yourself and where you grew up?
Adrian Brannan: I always have to hesitate for a split second when folks ask where I grew up. It isn’t a simple answer. Born in Southern California, raised between Nevada, Scotland, Swit zerland, Ukraine and back to the states again. In so many ways wherever my family wandered is where I considered home as a kid, and still do in a way to this day. My older sister and I were blessed to be raised by wild and adventurous pa rents who never let what was considered normal dictate their life choices. There were a few points throughout child hood I wished for a true hometown or a place to stay longer than a few years, but looking back I see how deeply a part of our family spirit that wandering was, and what a blessing it is to this day as I conti nue to live a legacy of always wanting to see what is over the next moun tain.
CIS: How did you get into singing?
Adrian: Ah, enter the loud and pre cocious secondborn child! I was practically born making noise. I’m awful to hunt with for that very reason. I can’t sit still for a moment and constantly singing or humming or playing the piano on my knees or writing poems on scraps of paper, the back of my hand while horseback, Yeti cooler tops or cafe napkins. My mother (God bless her) had both my sister and I playing classical pia no when we were little and taking lessons, and I remember focusing very intently on keeping my posture perfect while playing recitals in Scottish Castles that were much too grand to not take se riously. However, unlike my sister I never learned how to read music. I never could deal with those little black notes looking so perfect and bossy, and instead made things up and did what sounded
right. My ears never led me wrong, and I could pick out pretty much anything from the time I was little, either to sing or play on an instrument. As I got older, that love translated into Opera, and again my mother supported that passion. Until I was 13, those Italian arias were all I could imagine wanting to sing, but soon after I wrote my first few cowboy songs. They were composed by two chords on a pawn shop guitar (another long and odd story) and ended in a dare, a bet and me singing on the open mic stage at a cowboy poetry gathering. The most wonderful people in the world heard me, and came up afterwards to introduce themselves. I’ll never forget, they asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, and when they said they wanted to help me with a music ca reer I said I had to go find my parents and ask them. They en ded up changing my life, not just in rela tionship to music, but everything. Their names are Mike and Liz Vanderhoof, and they are the secondset of parents God gifted me with and the most precious of friends. They have always believed in and supported not only my musical ca reer–but been there through any and all life challenges, ready with a hug and the comfort only parents can give. I truly don’t know what I’d do without them.

CIS: How did Dear Cowgirl come about?
Adrian: Dear Cowgirl began as a letter in response to a young woman struggling with the fall out of abuse after she read an article in which I first began to speak out about my experiences with violence. I never intended for it to become what it has today, but through the years of watching it gather steam and take-on a life of its own, I understand the purpose behind the pain I experienced early in life. For years I questioned why certain things had happened to me, but today I look back and simply feel thankful for the gift of healing and joy. Today, I get to take those negative experiences and harness what I have learned to help others. It is a gift to focus on trying to make the world a better place rather than lamenting its hardships. Dear Cowgirl has become a social move ment, (now TWO!) two bestselling books, an online community and blog, and the common thread of hope binding together those who refuse to give up.
CIS: You are an opening act for the NFR correct? Could you give us a little information about that ?
Adrian: YES! Absolutely incredible. There are no words. I’ve had the objective of singing at the NFR listed on my life goals since I was 15 (no really, I can show you my very messy diaries from that time!) and when I got the phone call I didn’t believe it. I have a horrible habit of not being easy to reach as I detest tech nology and phones and sometimes just turn it all off and disappear for weeks or months at a time. Well, these lovely folks called and said they wanted to talk and I just never listened or called back. So they kept calling. Then I realized it wasn’t a joke and I better get packed and head to Vegas. I’ll tell you what, pretty top notch day to be a cowboy singer! I am so honored to have been asked back to perform after last year, and especially for Memorial Night as we remember the folks who aren’t with us now.

CIS: Update us on what you are currently doing. We hear you are at Georgetown? Is your dog, Lefty there with you?
Adrian: I am doing everything and anything possible in life at 110 mph! Attending graduate school has been a dream of mine for years, and after completing my undergraduate degree while living out of my truck and camping my way across America I knew I could do anything....especially if I had access to running water and power! I used to do homework in National Parks and steal the internet from McDonalds and hotel par king lots to turn in my papers, but I got that degree. Attending Georgetown has been in my sights for years, and frankly this adventure has been one of the wildest yet. I love the University, the campus, my professors, classmates and the beautiful friends I have made. The diversity of folks attending SSP (Security Studies Pro gram) is incredible to experience and I learn something everyday from my cohort outside, as well as inside the classroom. There is an immense feeling of pride and ho nor felt in being able to call myself a Hoya, and I hope to encourage young people in the ranching and ag world to chase their academic goals, as well as immerse them selves in atmospheres outside of their comfort zones.
And of course Lefty is here! He is quite proud to be an honorary Hoya and attends classes with me on occasion.

It doesn’t matter if we’re chasing cows (he’s scared of them), singing (he sits backstage until I’m done), in the wilderness writing poetry or rolling down the road in the truck–he is always up for an adventure. He loves Washington D.C. but we both are still a lil confused by this whole leash thing!

CIS: If you were to give young girls any advice on life, what would it be?
Adrian: The only thing I do not believe in is giving up, and running out of coffee. Hugs are to be given, calves roped and wildflowers picked. Family is ev erything, chances should be taken, and you should do something that scares you as frequently as possible. Songs are meant to be shared with friends over camp fires, books are meant to have notes in the margins and your heart is never so shattered that it cannot be re paired with love. Life is hard, but you are not alone. You have purpose and are precious, you matter. You are so very loved.

ranch Life Wild rags is a family run ranch, including purebred horned hereford cattle located in central saskatchewan, Canada. they still do all the cattle stuff with their horses and the whole family gets involved!
ranch-Life Wild rags was started as a side project four years ago when Dalynn ramsay was looking for a new and unique, silk wild rag and couldn’t find any she liked. she has a couple friends who are amazing western photographers and she asked them if she could borrow some for an idea - they thought she was crazy and said, “absolutely”. she spent two years trying out different silks, silk blends, heavy, light, wool silk, etc. etc. Between her husband, her in-laws, their 4 kids and herself, they finally found the silk that checked all the boxes for a working ranch. they’ve been open for retail business for two years and have worked hard to build a credible and reliable brand. “We have been able to provide wholesale to our favorite western stores, including Lammle’s Western Wear - Canada’s largest line of western clothing stores and have been a sponsor for the Canadian Finals rodeo contestants by providing them a one of a kind wild rag when they receive their back tag the last two years.”
Check out the next two pages for their fashions.
