Shania Twain Album Update
Fans have been waiting patiently for the release of Shania Twain’s latest album. Here is the latest update!
T
wain’s new album will be titled Now. The Release Date Now is due out on Sept. 29 — though that date has changed a few times. Twain had originally said that she planned on releasing a new single in March, with the full album coming in May (per Rolling Stone); however, per an April press release, the record
was due out in September, with the single comi n g in June. More recently, during an intermissiontime interview during Game 6 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final on June 11, Twain told Hockey Night in Canada host Scott Oake that her new album would be out in “late August.” Courtesy of theboot.com

Include Swimming in your Daily Workout this Summer By Robert Gentry

wimming is not just a way to cool off, but is one of the best exercises one can do. It is a non joint pounding activity. It all started with me when I did a few laps in a condo pool some 12 years ago. After going back and forth just a few times, I was way tired. I was one who had jogged for several years, working hard to achieve goal times. So, I was thinking I was in good shape, I didn’t like feeling so tired after so little swimming. I thought, “Wow, this is a challenge”. I hadn’t swam in years, and had no interest in it, but after seeing what a challenge it was, I wanted to improve, so I kept at it. Since then, it has become a regular part of my exercise routine, doing so some four days weekly or so.
Another great benefit to swimming, is it has been great for my back. Occasionally, in my daily activities, I would do something that would “tweek” my lower back and I couldn’t stand up straight. Well, my last back incident was over 10 years ago. That is when I got serious about regular swimming, and I haven’t had one “tweek” since!
There are several ways one can swim, as there are different strokes. The main stroke is freestyle, or the crawl. There are also the breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly. I basically just do the free style, with sometimes alternating it with breast stroke. Remember, you are just competing against yourself, and in trying, you are improving your health and having fun I started out by trying to achieve goals, such at the same time. as how many minutes it will take me to do so many laps. Why I Ride...
W
e live in a highs p e e d world where data and headlines come thick and fast. Sometimes this stimulus is external but often we actually choose the responsibilities and activities that create the deadlines and pressure that require us to think quickly. Reaction has replaced reflection as the order of the day. It follows as a natural consequence that fast food, twenty-four hour news, super-sonic airplanes and high speed internet connections. I panic when I notice myself racing to the next event in my life before I have taken the time to enjoy the moment I am in. When I need help to slow down, look around and appreciate world---I often ride my horse. Human history records that horses have helped humans carry our baggage and navigate our travels. In the modern era of high-tech medical interventions, 22 | Cowgirls In Style | Summer 2017
there is a growing interest in how horses can take us on another, deeper, journey. People may see themselves as the more evolved species but my experience has included moments when my horse transported me on a journey of consciousness. Evidence is mounting that many people have horses that carry them down trails to emotional healing, mental awareness and spiritual peace. The first such benefit that I have noticed is the escape from the noise. Again, sometimes our lives are full of external sound. Honking horns, alarms and angry voices are external and unwanted noise. Sometimes we choose the break in the quiet. Whatever the cause, even a camping trip in the tops of the mountains often fails to provide an escape. And though I admit that I have enjoyed racing through the forest on an ATV, the slower pace of a horse allows me to see and enjoy, so much more.
As the world gets louder, I become much more likely to ride a horse on trails that whisper to my heart and choose to see so much that is a blur at a higher speed. I desire to hear the clip-clop of my horse’s hooves as the natural background sound to a babbling brook and the chirping of birds instead of the roar of a man-made engine. In addition to creating an environment of peace, horseback riding also creates a relationship. Perhaps the greatest legacy of horsemanship has been handed down from Native Americans. Native American warriors illustrated the ultimate relationship with their war ponies. They acknowledged them as companions, friends and brothers. I have tried to mirror this equal status between rider and mount and I have become addicted to the rapport that occurs. I admit to students I am teaching to ride that it is possible to ride a horse by giving instructions and commands. Humans have a legacy of using horses by conquest. We have “broken” horses in an effort to force them to meet our wills and desires. But when a rider and a horse begin working in harmony, both the ride and the relationship are elevated. This type of relationship creates physical and emotional joy. It creates an environment of mutual understanding, respect and love. The opportunity to know this feeling is another reason that I ride. In our modern world we don’t need horses the way our ancestors needed them and yet thousands of people ride anyway. In a world where it’s easier to use a car to get us from one place to another, there are still reasons why I ride a horse.
Jay Lane facilitates an equine assisted therapy program in Southern Utah called, Whispering Trails. He prefers horses for therapy because of their unique ability to bond with people, and to be able to feel and understand emotions. He has worked with horses for over 40 years.
