ITINERARY IN DETAIL Day01
Arrive Colombo - On to Sigiriya (180 kms / approx. 6 hours drive) Welcome to your 'Sri Lanka - Ramayana Trail' tour! On arrival at the airport in Colombo, you will be met by our representative and transferred to a nearby hotel to freshen up. After breakfast, proceed on a picturesque drive to Sigiriya, en route visit Munneswaram temple and Manavari Temple. Munneswaram temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya in one of King Ravana's vimana. He felt he was being followed by bramhaasthi dosham as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. He stopped the vimana at this juncture, because he felt that at this place the "Brahmaasthi Dosham" was not following him. He ascended from the vimana and asked God Shiva for a remedy. God Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised installing and praying four lingams at Manavari, Thiru Koneshwaram, Thiru Ketheshwaram and Rameshwaram in India, as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham. Thereafter, visit Manavari Temple. Manavari is the first lingam installed and prayed by Lord Rama and till date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in the world named after Lord Rama. On arrival in Sigiriya, check-in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Sigiriya. (B , L , D)
Day02
Onto Kandy (100 kms / approx. 3 hours drive) After breakfast, visit Trincomalee and Koneswaram Temple. Trincomalee has sunny weather throughout the year, with white sandy beaches, calm, placid and warm waters, ideal for underwater activities and for Whale watching. Nilaveli-10 miles away are the finest beach in Trincomalee starting at Uppuveli- 5 miles away extending all the way to Nilaveli. Pigeon Island is a great place for Diving, Snorkeling and sea bathing. There are 7 Hot Spring at Kanniyai just 5 miles away on the Anuradhapura road. Thiriyai Vata-da-ge is 30 miles to the North of Trincomalee and is one of the best monuments in Sri Lanka. Later, visit Koneshwara Temple. According to an inscription found on the doorway to the fortress, this temple was destroyed by the Portuguese in the 16 Century A.D. They threw all the columns down to the sea below. Three bronze statues found among the columns in the sea were brought up by divers and are now kept in the modern temple. Later, drive back to the hotel. Later, drive towards Kandy. On arrival, check-in to the hotel. The rest of the evening is at leisure for independent activities. Overnight in Kandy. (B , L , D)
Day03
In Kandy (Excursion of Mahiyangana) After breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Mahiyangana. Visit Dunuwala & Laggala - Dunuwala (the site where Ravana died) and Laggala (where Ravana prayed to Lord Shankara). The cartels behind the Dunuvila Lake are called Laggala. Laggala is derived from the Sinhala term Ilakka Gala, which when translated into English gives us the meaning "Target Rock". Laggala served as a sentry point to the King Ravana's army and it was from this rock the first Glimpse of Lord Rama's army was sighted. This hill is geographically the highest part of the northern region and on a clear day Thiru Koneshwaran and Talai Mannar can been seen. Next, visit Yahangala - the place where King Ravana's body was displayed after his death to allow his countrymen to offer their last respect. Then, proceed to visit Weragantota, the capital city of King Ravana and known as the landing place of a flying chariot. It is
