ITINERARY IN DETAIL Day01
Arrive Ahmedabad
Welcome to your 'Colors of Gujarat ' tour! On arrival at the airport / railway station in Ahmedabad, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later, proceed on a half day city tour of Ahmedabad visiting Gandhi Ashram, Calico Museum, Utensils Museum, the Jami Mosque and Akshardham temple complex . The rest of the evening is at leisure. In Ahmedabad * Excursion to Modhera Sun Temple and Patan (102 kms / approx. 3 hour drive)
This morning, proceed on an excursion to the Sun Temple at Modhera that dates back to the early 11th century. Built in 1026 AD by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty, the relics at the sun temple is dedicated to the natural elements fire, air, earth, water and sky alongside the sculptures of many gods. En route visit Patan famous for Jain temples,one of the most important being the Mahavir Swami Derasar in Dhandherwad Also visit the Rani ki Vav (the Queen's Stepwell), an excellent example of subterranean architecture of Gujarat. On to Bhavnagar (235 kms / approx. 6 hour drive)
After breakfast, proceed to Bhavnagar, enroute visit Lothal Harappan archaeological site. On arrival, checkin into your hotel in Bhavnagar. The rest of the evening is at leisure to explore the city. Overnight in Bhavnagar (B) Day04
In Bhavnagar * Excursion to Palitana (60 kms / approx. 1 hour drive)
This morning, visit the Palitana temples located on top of the Shatrunjay Hill. Consisting of 863 temples, it is the largest cluster of Jain Temples. These temples ascend from the base of the hill to the top of the hill. Climb over 3500 steps and see detailed carvings at each temple grouped into nine enclosures. The rest of the day is at leisure. On to Sasan Gir (300 kms / approx. 7 hour drive)
This morning, proceed to Sasan Gir, home to the Asiatic Lion. On arrival, check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure for independent activities. Overnight in Sasan Gir (B, L, D) Day06
In Sasan Gir
After breakfast, proceed to visit the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.It is located around 65 km to the southeast of Junagadh, and covers an area of around 1,412 sq. km of lush deciduous forests, which comprises 258 sq. km as National Park and 1,154 sq. km as Sanctuary. Gir National Park was established in 1965 and is the last remaining abode of the endangered Asiatic Lions. Later, visit the Kamleshwar Dam Reservoir that presents a panoramic view of Gir hills and forest. Kamleshwar Dam also harbours of a large population of crocodiles and is a good spot to observe water birds.
