ITINERARY IN DETAIL Day01
Arrive Ahmedabad
Welcome to your 'Temple Tour of Gujarat' tour! On arrival at the airport / railway station in Ahmedabad, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later, proceed on a half day city tour of Ahmedabad visiting Gandhi Ashram, Calico Museum, Utensils Museum, the Jami Mosque and Akshardham temple complex.. Overnight in Ahmedabad None (Meals on your own). Day02
Ahmedabad * Excursion to Modhera (102 kms / approx. 3 hour drive)
This morning, proceed on an excursion to the Sun Temple at Modhera that dates back to the early 11th century. Built in 1026 AD by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty, the relics at the sun temple is dedicated to the natural elements fire, air, earth, water and sky alongside the sculptures of many gods. En route visit Patan famous for Jain temples,one of the most important being the Mahavir Swami Derasar in Dhandherwad. Also visit the Rani ki Vav (the Queen's Stepwell), an excellent example of subterranean architecture of Gujarat. The rest of the evening is at leisure for independent activities. On to Gondal (265 kms / approx. 6 hour drive)
This morning, proceed to Gondal- one of the remaining few towns that hold the real cultural heritage of the Rajput kings and early rulers in Gujarat. On arrival, check in to your hotel. Later, proceed on a city tour of Gondal visiting places like the Orchard Palace Retreat, the Virpur Jalaram Bapa Temple, Naulakha Palace, the Royal Palace the Veri Lake. The Orchard Palace was built as an annex of the Huzoor Palace, the family residence, in the late-19th century to host personal guests of the Maharajas. Shri Jalaram Bapa was a Hindu Saint from Gujarat. The shrine is actually the house complex where the saint lived during his life time. The Naulakha Palace Museum is housed inside a 260 year palace. The museum houses artefacts used by Maharaja Bhagwat Sinhji which includes silver caskets that carried messages and gifts for the king. It is open only for those who stay at the Orchard Palace or Riverside Palace in Gondal. Veri Lake, one of the prominent lakes in Gondal, is an ideal place for watching birds like pelican, flamingo, spoonbill, crane and black, glossy and white ibis. The rest of the evening is at leisure.
