Welcome
Sales Management Comments
Welcome to our 2012 Bull Sale. This is our 28th year of registering Purebred cattle and we have no intention of quitting anytime some. We both really enjoy the cattle business.
It’s all about agriculture at Lone Stone Farms, somewhat of a rare thing today. They do a great job on their modest grain farm that complements the 300 head cowherd that makes the bulls for this annual sale. The dual breed concept isn’t unheard of, but also isn’t especially available at every bull sale. This undoubtedly offers more convenience to the buying public. More convenience is also offered at Lone Stone, as any of you that have attended before will attest to, is the beautiful, large, heated sale barn accessorized with an abundance of exceptionally prepared meals and baking!
Karen and I calve out over 250 head by ourselves, so we have learned a few things over the years as to what makes a good cow. First and foremost is disposition, with no exceptions. Secondly is a good udder that is square and has small teats. Third is conformation. We are looking for a 1300-1550 lb cow with a smooth shoulder, natural thickness and muscle with good length of spine. Lastly we need sound feet. We then breed our cows to some of the best bulls in the industry with our main goal being to maximize 205 day weights. You will find our 205 day EPDs to be some of the highest in the industry. We feel that this focus works best for our commercial bull buyer as he usually sells his calves off the cow in the fall. One thing you will notice in our catalog is that we do NOT reserve the right to collect semen on any bull we sell, nor do we retain any ownership rights. They all sell 100% to their new owner, with the hope that they will go on to make you more money than you ever dreamed possible. We keep our hands out of our customer’s pockets. To our customers who have held fast and waited patiently for the cattle industry to show profitability … We are here for you! We have not swayed from our focus and that is to provide you with predictable genetics that can make your herd profitable and successful.
Flavoring the event with some modernization is the selling method of video auction. This also allows for more comfort to buyers as doors aren’t slamming and cattle aren’t banging and crashing in and out of a sale ring but a slightly more peaceful and warmer atmosphere. The bulls are sired by the herdsires owned by Lone Stone Farms, so therefore you have a better appreciation for the siring ability of the bulls as multiple related siblings will be available for inspection and most likely you will be able to make extended lists on your choices as a lot of consistency will exist. Consistency and uniformity, yes, but the opportunity to crossbreed for success with Lone Stone bulls available in both yearling and two-year-old models is yours on February 24th. As a point interest, very fittingly for the region, this last Friday in February was also the annual date for the very successful Anchor T/Ru-Bens Bull Sales of days gone by. In the event you are calving or are pre-empted for any reason from attending in person, please call on us to assist you with any buying needs you may have. For the Brown Family,
Thank you and bid with confidence! Lonnie and Karen Brown
