– Welcome to the LOOKOUT STOCK FARM BRED FEMALE DISPERSAL – On behalf of Cindy and the boys and myself, I would like to welcome you to our bred female dispersal. Our farm is located in the Peace country of northern Alberta beside the town of Fairview. Cindy and I both grew up in the area and have been involved with livestock our entire lives. Cindy’s family raised purebred Angus for many years under the name Wildwillow that was dispersed in 1982. Together, we have been in the purebred Angus business for close to 20 years raising our Angus cattle under our farm name, Lookout Stock Farm. From the outset our goal has been to produce functional cattle that excel in the traits that have made Angus the number one breed in the world today. Never in our program have we gone to the extremes in any one trait, instead we concentrated on production with balance. I remember helping my grandfather select his replacement heifers and the first thing he would do is cull out the largest ones and the smallest ones and then select his keepers from the remaining core. This may not work for everyone but for us similar selection practices have served us well.

Ph: 780-835-3530 Box 2044, Fairview, Alberta T0H 1L0 Email: look-out@wispernet.ca As you examine the offering there may not be a lot of pedigrees that everyone will recognize as mainstream. The Pacesetter females have become the foundation of our operation and his daughters today, I feel, will be sale features. They are broody problem-free cattle that I think will be a positive addition to their new owners’ operations. You may recall Tom Boy 509R as he was the high seller at the 2007 Masterpiece Sale and admired by a lot of astute cattlemen. His daughters selling today are very complete females that offer the industry a genetic alternative. The one herdsire selling today is Dynasty 19T that we own with our partners, Crescent Creek Angus. He has been used exclusively in the two herds and his offspring have made us appreciate his true breeding potential. In my mind he has the ability to impact the breed in a very positive way. The five daughters selling today are hard working and have done a phenomenal job on their first offspring with all five calves indexing high in the herd. As you go through the remaining lots on offer you will find unique and potentially herdbuilding females and we are very confident in their ability to perform.

“Roy & His Boys” - Spencer, Carter & Tanner

After serious consideration we have decided to change our way of managing the cattle. With the boys finishing high school and heading in new life directions and our community and work commitments, we are finding there are just not enough hours in the day. Therefore, we feel that the best direction for us is to disperse our complete winter calving herd and to concentrate on a smaller summer calving herd in order to ease the work load. It has been twenty great years in the business and our goal is to be involved for many more. Regards, Roy & Cindy, Tanner, Carter & Spencer Bjorklund PS – And since the Oilers are on their way to many more Stanley Cups this may allow us to get out and watch a few more games.

– A Few Words from Castlerock Marketing – Conviction” and “Commitment” would be two excellent words that would describe the Bjorklund family of Lookout Stock Farm. I have always admired Roy and Cindy for their desire to always do what was the right thing even if it wasn't to their advantage. Their conviction to Canadian Pedigreed cattle is apparent and would stem from not only shane Castle Cindy's family of Wildwillow CastleroCk Angus but from the breeders Marketing which have influenced Roy. From the very first time I visited Cell: 306-741-7485 with Roy at Farmfair back in Ph: 306-784-2241 2000 I was impressed with his mannerisms and attitude towards being a breeder. Something that has always stuck with me! The toughest thing breeders face is keeping their eye on their end goal and making steps towards attaining those goals. The commitment from Roy and Cindy was to follow the path that they originally set out regardless of the fads and phases. This, by no means, is easy and very admirable for staying the course. Kicking the herd off in the right direction, some significant purchases included Grassy Lanes Milly 29U. This wonderful cow is responsible for Pacesetter 258M and was born to Milly 29U as a 16 yr old cow. See what I mean, if you want to infuse longevity, what better than using a son off a 16 year old cow! Pacesetter has set the table today with an excellent set of daughters as the backbone of the Lookout herd. He bred naturally until he was 9 years old and was as sound as a yearling bull.

Next up was Tom Boy 509R and I remember how excited Roy was, he talked about this bull calf that he bought. In 2007 Tommy Boy was the feature lot at the Masterpiece Sale and topped the sale at $60,000 to LLB and Tom Boy Associates. The Lookout cow herd is seeing the fruits of his effort and commitment as these Tommy daughters get better every day and have a great future ahead of them. The Northern Club Sale in ‘07 produced Silver Dome Dynasty 19T; Lookout and Crescent Creek teamed up to purchase this young bull at $10,500. Recently Roy and Cindy purchased Zorzal from Remington and what a set of calves he’s left. You need to see them to fully appreciate how good they are - WOW, they are excellent! As you read through this book you will understand the journey and appreciate the time spent breeding these cows into the herd they are today.Three years of drought have plagued the Peace Region but “What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!” and this herd has really come out on top. These cows are right for the picking! They are bred right, sound, productive and backed by one of the best families that I have met and have the privelige to call good friends! It's tough to see Roy and Cindy pull the reins back but the excitement of how these cows will perform at their new homes really gets me pumped. Its conviction and commitment that have lead Roy and Cindy to this point in life where they want to be able to dedicate as much time as possible with Spencer, Carter and Tanner....Roy's boys! Everyone can agree that kids grow up so fast and you got to make the best of your time when you can. Please make sure you stop by the farm to tour the herd or come see them at the Olds Cow Palace where they will be available for viewing from November 6th right up to sale time. If you should have any questions regarding the herd please feel to call Roy and Cindy or myself or any of the sales staff. You will not be disappointed!

Fairmac Dynasty 12X has been a part of our plans right from the start as we watched him as a young calf. He was born light out of a real nice first calver. Through the year as this young bull developed we really liked his structural correctness, well laid in shoulder with good muscle and some angus character. Now with the first breeding season over with he has held his own well and the picture was taken in the end of august. There is no grain supplementation going on just good honest cattle that flesh well. We feel there is a bright future for this young bull and plan to use him heavily!

His pedigree contains some golden oldies that underscore the fact that good cattle and good genetics never go out of style!

We admired the Pacesettter pedigree on the top side and the legendary Jimbo sire which has influenced so many great herds through the years. The ambush cows are big powerful cows that are easy fleshing, good uddered, sound cows, they have that little extra punch and best of all consistent. Being the sire to our Pacesetter bull which certainly made his influence in our herd worthy.

One of my favorite cows on the place, 283M is as close to my perfect cow as any cow can be! Great feet and udder and she always brings in a keeper, plus she is the mother of our “canuck” bull that we chose to replace Tom Boy 509r. We flushed 283M to coalbridge Marshall 15 this year and implanted 15 eggs for mid april calving; this will be the make up of our small spring calving herd in the future. 283M is bred to our 12X Dynasty son that we used on our heifers and will calve later than the other cows because she didn’t come home from Davis-rairdan until mid July.

It seems like every time I read a new angus magazine that there is a new fad out there that is going to be the world changer in how we breed our cattle. I think sometimes we get ourselves overloaded with information and that we need to concentrate on the traits that have made angus the #1 breed in the world today; for our program the Pacesetter bull has done that better than any bull we’ve ever used. He breeds consistent - both his sons and his daughters exemplify the vital traits that we strive for in our herd like good feet, good udders, good temperament, easy fleshing, hardy cattle that are fertile and have longevity bred in. His daughters selling today demonstrate these traits and have worked extremely well in our program and we are very confident that they will continue to do so wherever they go.

These two Pacesetter daughters are twins that belong to our son carter. The deal around here is that when our boys turn nine they get to pick a heifer calf from any cow. Being the entrepreneur that carter is, he chose not one but two.

These twins in lot #15 & lot #16 have been a solid investment for carter. They are full sisters to 403P in lot #3 in this sale and all three are hard working structurally correct cows.

Shane and I spent a couple of days going through the cows and taking pictures. We were talking about the cows and how it is going to be tough to see these cows go and when we got to 112T I realized just how hard November 9th is going to be. If I could draw the perfect cow, 112T is exactly what I would come up with. at the World angus Forum in 2009 we had 112T on display with her cortachy Boy heifer calf, who sold that week to remington cattle company. We’ve got a special Zorzal heifer calf to take her place and I hope the new owner will appreciate her as much as we do.

SEMEN LOT #F - 50 Straws of Semen Sell on TOM BOY 509R When we bought Tom Boy we were looking for a bull to use on our Pacesetter daughters. Tom Boy was used here for two years before we took him to agribition in the fall of 2007 where he caught the attention of a lot of good cattlemen that week and from all accounts has done a good job for everyone who has used him. around here he has also done a great job. His sons were always some of the first to go from the bull pen and his daughters are turning into great cows. They are sweet fronted, tight uddered females that put everything into their calves. Some of these young cows are just coming into their own and should become very productive females in their new homes.

We purchased Dynasty 19T as a calf out of the 2007 Northern Select Sale with our partners, crescent creek angus. Our interest in 19T was originally piqued because of his pedigree, being a direct son of the maternal legend, Wandering creek Dynasty. When we saw him our interest escalated! His mother, Oakleaf 119l, was an impressive angus female stemming from the Durness' Winton line of cattle. Dynasty 19T has been used heavily in both operations and has bred exceptionally on both heifers and cows. The few daughters selling today have done an outstanding job on their first calves; all five females have calves indexing near the top of their contemporary groups.

We think the potential of this young bull is limitless - his unique Canadian pedigree, flawless conformation and breeding ability may put him on the path to become a major influence in the Angus breed.

a bit larger female that goes back to the Geronimo bull we bought years ago from crescent creek. She’s got a Wolf heifer calf this year that has been a standout all summer.

28W comes from a real maternal line of cattle. Her mother, 28r, and grandmother, 66K, are both selling today and have been real good cows. 28W has an impressive Wolf bull calf on her and she’s doing a great job on her first go at motherhood.

44W is a full sister to 28U catalogued earlier as Lot #42. She’s a very complete young female that has potential to be pretty darn good. 44W is raising a March Wolf bull calf that should be an easy sell out of the heifer bulls next year.

Over the years we’ve sold a few and bought a few head out of the Northern Select and they have, more times than not, been really good cattle. 45T is raising one of the best Dynasty bull calves this year and being bred to Great Northern should offer an exciting coupon.

47T is a solid young cow and her mother is a deep soggy Pacesetter female that is the oldest daughter we have from him. 47T is raising a real good Zorzal bull calf this year. being bred back to Zorzal the new owners should expect another good one.

We sold the 401P bull in our sale to a real good commercial customer and kept a breeding interest in him because of his mother, the 102L cow who is the mother of one of the best females selling today, that being 112T in Lot #18. 123T is a finer boned female with a perfect udder. A homeraised bull out of the $60,000 Tom boy 509R bull we sold at Agribition in 2007 and what a powerful herdsire he is. Jerry Johnson, a good friend and cattleman purchased 1/2 interest in Canuck 26U in 2009 which gave us the opportunity to use this bull. His dam, 283M, has been a favorite of anyone visiting, is out of 98Y who was part of a package of Willabar cows we purchased years ago thrusting our herd forward. Canuck adds a little more bone and power to his calves and his daughters look terrific in the bred heifer pasture. We truly feel this bull will leave a lasting impact.

Over the years we get to meet so many neat people and back in 2007 we got the opportunity to meet Scott Shively from Pleasant Lake, North Dakota, at the Masterpiece Sale when he purchased a Tom boy heifer from us. Right away the converation was excellent learning that we had a lot in common and shared many interests and views in the cattle world. In the summer of 2008 Scott was telling me about this good bull calf he had out of a cow that was super solid and to top it all off a very maternal pedigree that included Shoshone breeding which is very interesting. We purchased the bull and what a set a bred heifers he has left us. They are definitely top quality and sport an outcross pedigrees. and best of all they will make excellent mother cows!

We had a real good go picturing cattle but we weren't able to get them all and this heifer and her dam somehow slipped through the cracks. This is Tanner’s cow and she has served him well as a purchase out of the Northern Select Sale. If you’re looking for a complete outcross pedigree, here you go and, bred to Dynasty, this will be a great coupon as well!

This is the first set of Epic Encore calves born and these females will impress you. Now you add in her good dam, 123S, and this heifer has brood cow written all over her.

The awesome Milly cow family who is responsible for Pacesetter 258M shows up in the pedigree as does Tom boy who really exemplifies our program direction and the combination of herdbulls we have used.

These 3/4 sisters are pretty neat and the resulting calves will be 7/8 related which makes us proud as we feel that these heifers will continue to work and do as we were planning. This sale presents a real neat chance to gather some close bred cattle.

A real neat blend of Headliner, Pulse and Geronimo - there is power to burn in this pedigree.

A rare AI pedigree around here but we like this heifer a lot. We felt that having some mainstream genetics would help prove our cattle while providing some alternative genetics for our customers. 78X will be tested free for CA.

– LOOKOUT STOCK FARM - FAIRMAC BRED FEMALES – In 1999 we bought the Macdonald land and moved to our current location on the south edge of Fairview. Ian Macdonald grew up on this farm and had been raising cattle here under the Fairmac name for almost 50 years. At the time, Ian was ready to ease up on the work but still wanted to maintain some Angus cows so we worked out a share deal and have managed a small group of Fairmac cows ever since.

Of course, the Fairmac name has a strong tradition in the Canadian Angus breed and the emphasis on Canadian genetics was always at the forefront. These cows have been managed like our own and have proven themselves to be good producers. This group offers the industry some unique Canadian genetics with a great family history.

Years ago I was given the Canadian Angus History book written by Lloyd Pickard. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent reading and learning about the history of our breed in Canada and the many breeders at that time, so many of whom are still involved in Angus today. Pickard had a real good way of explaining the different operations and especially the pedigrees that they have used to build their herds. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to meet and become friends with a lot of these people. Although not all of these breeders saw cattle in the same way, the one common denominator amongst them was their passion for the breed. Today I would like to personally thank them for allowing me the chance to get to know them.

To mention a few • Ian Macdonald (Fairmac) • Mabel beck (Wildwillow) • Steve Tofteland (Double A) • Dave Wildman (Towaw) • Ernie Gibson (Everblack) • Don Currie (Glen Isley) • Orrin Hart (Willabar) • bill Armitage (Angus Acres) • Wayne Sibbald (SSS) • Ed Kolesar (Loma Lanes) • Walter brown (Angus Ridge) • The late Lou beaulieu (beaualta) • The late Jim brown (Double 4) A word of advice for a young breeder entering the business.... take the time to buy a pioneer breeder a cup of coffee, sit back and listen. I’d say it will be money well spent!

Pictured here is Charlie Beck, Cindy's father, with Eston of Wildwillow 4. This bull's destination was Gleannloch Angus Herd in Texas. He had quite a show record in the '70's and when Gleannloch dispersed in 1972, Eston of Wildwillow 4 sold for a handsome sum of $32,000. Sale Managed by -
