Refinement of Wind Vortex & Column of Wind

Coanda Effect The Coanda Effect is the tendency of a fluid jet to stay attached to a convex surface. It's applied to the deflector on the front cover to enlarge the volumn of wind when the wind pass through shape of concentric circle from layers

Noise reduction of front cover

To reduce wind-cut noise from front shell, we take the Chevron design of turbojet on Airbus as reference. Round sawtooth is applied to deflector on front shell. Enhance amount of air flows through the both sides of deflector to reduce wind-cut noise

Stepped-control pad

The alignment of buttons on control pad is designed for foot-stepped operation. Stand-using is common way to operate the electric fan in lot's of responses from the user we've interviewed during the Contextual Inquiry.

Research Contextual Inquiry

A Contextual Inquiry interview is usually structured one-on-one interaction in which the researcher watches the user in the course of the user's normal activities and discusses those activities with the user.

Opp score After the inquisition, we conducted a survey of people's attitudes toward electric fan purchase and using activities. Each question will take two part of scoring answers "Impor tance" and "Satisfaction". The X-axis is figured as score of importance(I), as Y-axis means satisfaction(S).

The Opp score calculated by the formula would be divided into 3 parts as shown in the chart above. The darkest zone in the chart means "the most important thing but not satisfied to customer" , which would be the target problem for our team to deal with first.

We recorded each part of electronic fan and sorted them according to product development goal of the A3 report.

Ideate Moodboard

Based on Market Positioning, the target user prefers japanese brands with a style called "Zen" such as MUJI and Plus Minsu 0 when they purchase home appliance. We formulated the moodboard of Zen style. Geometric appearance, low color saturation are features just like those japanese brands.

Tech of Noise Reduction We did online research to find out where the wind-cut noise come from when we operate it. Basically it comes from the following three parts: motor, fan blade and front shell. It requires to trade off between front shell wind-volumn enlargement design and wind-cut noise. We were inspired by the chevron design on turbine of Airbus due to the noise descending function.

Test 3D-modeling Test Wind Vortex & Column of Wind

In lean product development, the experimental analysis is required to be compared in quantification. We made a series of 3D modeling flow simulation in Solidworks rather than making rough model in order to decline the distortion of experiment outcome.

All over forty different condition selected have been tested.

Stepped-Control Pad Test

The Stepped-Control Pad was conducted with a panel showed different kinds of button alignment. We assigned several tasks to our subjects then recorded the fault rate of operation and duration doing eash task.

- Taiwanese classic cuisine promotion with a board game


Cultural Investigate Living in Tainan, an antique city in southern Taiwan, our lives are surrounded by plenty of Taiwanese classic food culture such as beef soup, dried noodle, rice tude pudding etc. We chose a type of traditional Taiwanese gourmet called "Jiou Jia Tsai" as our theme of this project. At the beginning, team members head to one of the most representative Jiou Jia Tsai restaurant in Tainan named A-mei to investigate the cuisine and make an access to the staff and the 3rd generation boss of Amei.

During the interview with the boss, we learned these Jiou Jia Tsai cuisine had been offered deliver service for several years already. We also found the composition of customers in Amei restaurant were elder mostly. The boss said the younger generation didn't enjoy the flavor of Jiou Jia Tsai cuisine as it was just suitable for elder people because the taste of sour and sweet in Jiou Jia Tsai dishes.

We started to think why don't we let users experience what we saw in Jiou Jia Tsai culture. Soon we associated the home-deliver box and board game together. In home-deliver scenario, users have to wait the cuisine defrost for at least 3 hours. It seems that exists a spare time while they're waiting.

Design Goal Making customer be more interested in Jiou Jia Tsai culture through the homedeliver service box when they wait for the thaw out of their food.

Set-up of Gaming Our team did some literature review through newspapers and web articles about 30-50s in Taiwan before we get started to design the board game. For example, the game rule is referred to the events really happened in those years.

Trash Tong - Ergonomic Hand Tool Design


"Trash tong using hazard reduction in Ergonomic"

Research

We made a research at the cleaning unit in East District Tainan. The administrator of the unit let us follow his crew, Kai, when he's on duty.

Our team tried to do the clean job with Kai to understand what kinds of problem cleaners need to deal with but may be unconcious about it. Then we went through the route with Kai assigned by the administrator that day.
