Look Smart, Think Smart! Gill Sherry

I

’ve never been one for clutter. Don’t get me wrong, I like my home comforts and am more than happy to have a few cushions on my sofa and a selection of photographs on my sideboard. But when it comes to keeping things for sentimental reasons or ‘just in case’, I’m more likely to throw them out or donate them to the local charity shop than I am to hoard them unnecessarily. Consequently, my house is generally clutter free, each room home to just one or two framed photographs or a souvenir from my travels. There is one room, however, that seems to have escaped my strict ‘no clutter’ mantra. My office, the room where I spend most of my time, appears to have turned into a chaotic cave, crowded with boxes, books, paperwork and a host of other displaced paraphernalia. As a result of my desire to keep the rest of the house tidy and clutter free, my office seems to have become home to an assortment of things that have no obvious abode. This sorry state of overcrowding escalated to the point of no return and was far from conducive to a clean, bright, inspirational working space. Determined to return my office to its former minimalistic glory, I decided to tackle the mountain of ‘stuff’ that had gathered in every corner. The result was astounding. First to go was a box full of electrical items that had been there since I moved house. Inside, I found old lap top leads, a computer mouse, TV remotes, obsolete chargers and an old Sky TV box. If I hadn’t used them in three years I was unlikely to use them now! A box full of coat hangers was next to go; there were more than enough coat hangers in each wardrobe without the need for dozens more! Books and magazines were next. Those I had read were donated to the local charity book shop and those I hadn’t were lined up neatly in my book case. Old photo frames, art prints and shoe boxes were next to go. Why had I even kept this stuff? I was shocked how much stuff I had managed to accumulate despite my determination to keep my home clutter free. Once removed, my office began to look like the clean and tidy working environment intended. Rather than feeling as though the walls were closing in, it was now a light, roomy space where I could work without first needing to navigate my way around an obstacle course.

I’m not sure where and when I first heard the expression ‘a tidy desk is a tidy mind’ but I must say, I can relate to this particular thought process. Whether it was a teacher in school or a manager at work who first uttered these words to me, it certainly seems to be true. A clean and tidy working environment is essential when it comes to writing. Creativity needs space to develop so a disorderly desk will only hamper productivity. The same applies to state of mind and physical comfort, the two of which, in my opinion, are linked. I worked in an office environment for over thirty years where ‘business attire’ was the strict dress code. Not only did this project a professional image from a visiting client’s points of view, it also ensured each member of staff looked and felt smart; which reminds me of another well known expression, ‘look smart, think smart.’ Periodically, my employer would organise a dress-down day in aid of charity. The idea was to wear casual clothes in exchange for a charitable donation. The choice of clothing depended on the charity; pink for breast cancer, yellow for armed forces and so on. But as much as I supported the gesture of goodwill, I was never comfortable working in jeans and a t-shirt. By leaving my professional attire at home, I somehow left my business brain behind too. My casual clothing felt alien in my professional work space and my attitude and commitment seemed to slip along with my appearance. My usual efficient self was nowhere to be seen, replaced by a sloppier, less productive version. After a number of fruitless dress-down days, I decided to abandon the jeans and t-shirt and stick to my business suit, whilst still contributing to the charity - a win-win as far as I was concerned. Whilst others may argue that where you sit and what you wear should make no difference to your work rate, I agree wholeheartedly with the two aforementioned expressions. As a result, my office space is now clean and tidy and I arrive at my desk appropriately dressed for the busy day ahead. The fact that I work from home is irrelevant. In fact, if anything, it’s even more important to remain professional when there are so many distractions. At which point a third well used expression springs to mind – dress for success! www.cpmagazine.net

More Than Half Of Kuwait Parents Don’t Know The Legal Requirements For Child Seat Belt Use, According To New Survey

Logic Compact’s Original Two Apples Flavour Now Available in Kuwait

Japan Tobacco International, a leading global company in the vaping market, has introduced their original Two Apples flavour to Logic Compact e-shisha. This new offer was created especially with Kuwaiti consumers in mind, as it features the classic Two Apples flavour which is already well known amongst adult smokers in the country. Two Apples is available with 34 mg/ml of nicotine. “Kuwait is the first market in the Middle East that was introduced to our e-shisha products, and results have been positive thus far. The addition of Two Apples comes in response to consumers’ desire for innovative flavours,” says Graham Gibbons, JTI’s Middle East General Manager. In addition to Two Apples, JTI also launched pods containing 34 mg/ml of nicotine on its core flavours of Tobacco, Caramel Banana, and Mixed Berries to cater to a wider array of consumers. Logic Compact is a new generation ‘closed tank’ e-shisha device with a modern design coming in charcoal, blue and pink. It is the latest addition to JTI’s portfolio of Reduced Risk Products (RRP) which was launched in Kuwait in April 2019. Other flavours available in Kuwait are Chai and Menthol. Logic Compact e-shisha is available in leading retailers across Kuwait. JTI Group is the global owner of Al Nakhla shisha products, also known for its Two Apples flavour offering.

More than half (56%) of parents don’t know the legal requirements for child seat belt use in Kuwait, according to a new survey. More astonishingly, only 78% of parents said they require children to wear a seatbelt in the car, meaning 22% of parents surveyed do not enforce child safety measures whilst on the roads. The highest reason cited by parents (54%) for not enforcing children to wear seatbelts, was that they were perfectly safe in the back seat without them, closely followed by they were not necessary on short trips (46%). The research, conducted by INFINITI Middle East, also showed conflicting opinions on the age when the safety practice should be introduced. One quarter (23%) of those surveyed said that seatbelts should be worn from the age of three, whilst 25% said the age for strapping in was six and above. According to Kuwait law, vehicle driver and front seat passengers have to wear a seat belt at all times regardless of age. The survey is part of a major new road safety awareness campaign by INFINITI Middle East, promoting the safety of children in vehicles. Called ‘Eyes on You’, the campaign sheds light on parent’s on-road behaviours and the impact these have on children. “Correct seatbelt use is an ongoing topic of conversation in Kuwait, and this new survey shows that there is still a lot of confusion amongst parents, when it comes to safety rules,” said Markus Leithe, Managing Director, Middle East, INFINITI. “This new survey, and the ‘Eyes on You’ campaign, aims to draw attention to these crucial safety considerations, reminding parents of their responsibility and how on-road behaviour affects – and is eventually mimicked by - children.” The ‘Eyes on You’ campaign is closely aligned with Kuwait’s commitment to tighter road safety laws and seatbelt usage. A comprehensive seat belt law came into place in Kuwait in 1997, making seatbelt use in the driver and front seat mandatory. More recently a series of stringent enforcement penalties were implemented such as the impounding of vehicles for repeat offenders. Whilst the legal requirements for seatbelt use remain unclear amongst parents, the survey demonstrated strong recognition around the effects this has on children’s perceptions of road safety. When asked which negative on-road behaviours they believed children were most likely to mimic as adults, over half (53%) of parents agreed it was not wearing seatbelts. The ‘Eyes on You’ survey involved 1,869 parents across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Lebanon.

New GTS model from Porsche: the sportiest Macan

Porsche completes the Macan series with a distinctly sporty model. The new Macan GTS launches with a powerful engine, performance-oriented chassis, characteristic design and enhanced equipment. The 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine delivers 380 hp (280 kW) – an increase of 20 hp (15 kW) compared with the predecessor model. Combined with the newly adapted PDK dual-clutch transmission and the optional Sport Chrono package, the Macan GTS can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, three tenths faster than before. It has a top speed of 261 km/h. Among other things, the new member of Porsche’s compact SUV family has earned the abbreviation GTS, which stands for “Gran Turismo Sport”, due to its outstanding driving dynamics. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system has been specially tuned. The chassis has also been lowered by 15 millimetres for greater lateral dynamics. Adaptive air suspension is available with chassis lowering by a further 10 millimetres. Combined with the standard 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels and the generously sized cast iron brakes (360 x 36 millimetres at the front, 330 x 22 millimetres at the rear), the new Macan GTS impresses with the agility and responsiveness of a true sports car. As an option, deceleration can be further improved by means of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) with tungsten carbide coating or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). Acoustically, the standard sports exhaust system specifically adapted to the GTS accentuates the driving pleasure in the new Macan GTS. A 2.9-litre V6 engine is at the heart of the sound experience. Its Central Turbo Layout, with two turbochargers arranged in the inner V of the engine, allows particularly direct responsiveness. The maximum torque of 520 Nm (plus 20 Nm) is available over a wide range from 1,750 to 5,000 rpm. The sportiest Macan model consumes 9.6 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres according to NEDC.

A NEW YOU AWAITS YOU

DECEMBER JANUARY 2020 2019

nadia_omnia enquiries.nadia@gmail.com

Whenever a new year is about to hit, we seem to make these New Year’s resolutions, but why wait for the new year to arrive? Goals can be set at any time. When setting resolutions for your best self the best approach is making sure that your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based. This makes the chances of achieving your goals much higher. Let’s break it down even further:

SPECIFIC If you identify the five ‘W’ questions for your first goal, then the chances of achieving it will be significantly higher.

hour of reading per day)

2.Have others done it successfully before? (A lot of famous people have done this, so if they can, I can)

1.Who: Who is involved in this goal?

(Be more knowledgeable in my work field)

REALISTIC This means that given the resources and time available, this goal can be realistically achieved. To ensure it is realistic ask yourself:

3.Where: Where is this goal to be achieved?

1.Is the goal realistic and within reach?

(At home, by reading books in my area of expertise)

(6 months is a realistic time frame to become knowledgeable in my field of expertise)

(Myself)

2.What: What do I want to accomplish?

4.When: When do I want to achieve this goal? (Within 6 months)

2.Is the goal reachable given the time and resources?

5.Why: Why do I want to achieve this goal?

(I am capable of buying the necessary books to read one per month and I can comfortably allocate one hour per day to read)

(To be next in line for a promotion or desirable for other jobs)

MEASUREABLE There needs to be a way to track your progress to make sure you are on the right track. It is great to set milestones so ask yourself the following questions: 1.How many/much? (1 book per month and 6 books in total)

2.How do I know if I have reached my goal?

3.Are you able to commit to achieving the goal? (I can commit one hour per day to read)

TIME-BASED A goal should have a beginning and an end date. This ensures that it will start and finish or else there will be no sense of urgency. 1.Does my goal have a deadline? (I will start reading on January 25 and finish on July 25)

(I will set daily milestones in my calendar for six months)

2.By when do you want to achieve your goal? 3.What is my indicator of progress?

(By July 25)

(Daily milestone set)

ATTAINABLE/ACHIEVABLE It is important to ensure that your goal is achievable. If it isn’t attainable or achievable then you are setting yourself up for failure. Ask yourself the following questions: 1.Do I have the resources and capabilities to achieve the goal? If not, what am I missing? (I will need to pre-order the books in my field and set aside 1

If smart goals are set and written out clearly, this is the first step towards taking the goal you have set for yourself. It means that you have taken the time to really think about it and break it down for yourself. Another important point to note is that the first month is most definitely the hardest because you are creating a new habit, but once you power through it then it starts to feel easier. If you had enough time to read this article, then you have enough time to get started now. Don’t forget that it will be you in the making! www.cpmagazine.net

TOP 5 DOS OF THE CULTURE 1. If invited into a local’s home, take your shoes off at the entrance, out of respect and cleanliness. 2. Carry tissues with you as most restrooms don’t have toilet paper. 3. Keep your purse/bag in front of you when walking and on your lap when sitting down. Bag snatching is common in Vietnam and bags that look unattended or easy to grab are prime targets. 4. Carry your hotel’s address with you at all times to make grabbing a taxi, moped or tuk-tuk smooth for both you and the driver. 5. Slurp your noodles, it means you’re enjoying your meal.

TOP 5 PHRASES TO KNOW 1. Hello = Xin Chao (Sin chow) 2. Thank you = Cam on (kahm uhn) 3. Goodbye = Tam Biet (Tarm Byeet) 4. Excuse Me = Xin Lỗi (sin loy) 5. Yes/No = Dạ/Không (yah/comb)

TOP 5 DON’TS OF THE CULTURE 1. Don’t take pictures of anything related to the military. It is a considered a violation of national security and can result in a fine or even jail time. 2. Don’t engage in public displays of affection. Anything other than holding hands in public is frowned upon and considered offensive. 3. Don’t talk about the Vietnam War. Politics in general should be a cautious topic of discussion. 4. Don’t dress in skimpy clothing unless at a beach resort. Vietnamese are rather modest and look dubiously at tourists who wear very little. This is very important when visiting pagodas and temples. 5. Don’t stop when trying to cross the street. As intimidating as it may be, the traffic will avoid you, so keep walking or you will throw the drivers off. With this being said, do walk with caution. www.cpmagazine.net

Please tell us about yourself. I am Haya, a girl from Kuwait. I am a TV host, a freelance fashion and beauty model and also a certified stylist.

Tell us about your education. I studied business and banking in Kuwait and also have a business qualification from Australia.

When did you start modelling? What got you started?

allowed as it gives a totally different look on the screen and is not acceptable. I was given such short notice to go and change and drove back home like crazy! I finally made it in the last moment.

What is your dream job or project? My dream is to have my own business related to beauty and fashion and probably also a shooting studio, ideally all in one single place under one roof.

I started in 2013 for a famous makeup artist in Kuwait. I started because many people thought I was very photogenic and would fit for beauty editorials and photo shoots. I gave it a try and since then it has been evolving and I regularly receive new projects.

What do you feel is your biggest achievement?

Tell us about your modelling experience.

What are some of your upcoming projects?

I started with beauty modelling and have done several projects with some of the biggest professional makeup artists from Kuwait and also in the GCC region. I also did fashion shoots for many local and regional fashion designers. I have done shoots for different segments including an insurance company and luxury cars such as Porsche, Maserati and Cadillac and many other fashion brands.

I am currently in discussions and working on doing a special independent TV show.

I believe my biggest achievement is making a name for myself in the industry within a very short time. This in itself is an achievement.

How would you describe your personal style? Normal and sporty. I like to wear comfortable clothes rather than fancy stuff.

What are your beauty secrets? How did you get interested in TV and hosting? Because I was getting popular with many clients for my styling and beauty consultation, I was approached by a private local channel to bring this experience to TV. Since then, I have been invited to host many important events in Kuwait.

I regularly take care of my skin by drinking lots of water and I use proper skincare. It is important to take good care of the skin both from inside and outside. I use proper vitamins to take care of it from inside and also good skin cleaning treatments.

Your favourite sport? What are the hardest things about modelling?

Yoga and dancing.

According to me, nothing is difficult! Each project has its own requirements and challenges and I totally understand that. I always give my best to achieve the best results for my clients.

Your favourite music?

Who inspires you in your TV career, locally and internationally?

Your favourite travel destination? I love to travel to Germany.

Locally, I am inspired by Eman Najem and internationally, Mona Abu Hamza from Lebanon. I really like her personality and admire her.

Your favourite TV show?

What’s your advice for young people who want to start modelling?

Your favourite food?

The only piece of advice is to not do it for the sake of a job. You need to feel it. Only if you can feel it, can you bring it out and it will be more rewarding and also the end results will be great.

E bil Arabi is an amazing show.

I love pasta and Italian cuisine in general.

Your favourite movie of all time?

How do you prepare for a role?

I love Bollywood movies. My recent favourite is Salman Khan starring Bajrangi Bhaijaan. It so touching and the story is so great with a wonderful message.

I always try to have a good sleep before any project and take good care of my skin.

Your message for us at CP Magazine?

What do you like to do in your spare time? I am a spa addict. I like to spend time at the spa to relax and unwind.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened while you were on set? On my first TV appearance, unknowingly I was wearing a beige top. As I arrived, the director told me that it was not

I am a great fan of jazz and often listen to it to relax.

A TATOOINE JOURNEY IN

TUNISIA

Photography: Anantara Tozeur Resort

Recently opened in the southwest of Tunisia, Anantara Tozeur Resort offers a luxury getaway to the mystical Sahara Desert and the breathtaking surrounding natural landscapes.

F

ans of the epic space trilogies created by George Lucas, which reach their conclusion this month with the final film’s launch, will be very familiar with some of these panoramas, as the southern Tunisian desert around Tozeur served as the filming locations for numerous scenes from the Star Wars movies.

Now guests at Anantara Tozeur Resort have the opportunity to visit some of the filming locations from the first and second trilogies, when they book the resort’s Tatooine Journey Package.

38

JANUARY 2020

The Tunisian town of Tatooine is located a few hours away from the property, from where the famed planet took its name. Much closer is the site for one of Tatooine’s spaceport settlements which featured in episodes one and two. On route guests drive through the spectacular landscapes of Ong Jemel, ‘the neck of the camel’ in Tunisian, which were the backdrop of more scenes from episode one.

39

Travelling through the charming town of Tozeur and on to the mountains in the north west, guests also have the opportunity to visit Mides Canyon, seen in the original trilogy. After visiting the stunning canyon, stop briefly at the village of Chebika and the mountain oasis of Tamerza where a waterfall and the option of some refreshments await. Then venture onward and into the Chott el Djerid, the largest salt lake in the Sahara Desert, its vast endless panoramas also recognisable from the original trilogy. For those fans who would like some photographic memories from their Tozeur desert experiences, there is the option to don a cape and laser sword at the nearby film set, to create some truly memorable shots with an instantly recognisable backdrop. 40

Anantara Tozeur Resort offers many other exciting opportunities to explore and enjoy Tozeur and the surrounding area, including 4x4 dune bashing in the desert, camel trekking, horse riding in a nearby date palm oasis, visiting Tozeur Medina or relaxing with pampering spa treatments at the resort’s Anantara Spa. The property is located a 15-minute drive from Tozeur’s Nefta International Airport and offers a luxury chauffeur service from the airport to the resort.

The Huawei Nova 5T

H

uawei is undisputedly a tech giant, especially when it comes to the smartphone industry. With the launch of the new Nova 5T, they have raised the bar higher for rivals in terms of design and performance for the modern day smartphones by giving us yet another spectacular device for 2020. With exceptionally good looks, quad camera prowess and solid performance, the Nova 5T represents great value for a current day smartphone by packing in a variety of high-end features for its modest price tag. The new Nova has certainly refreshed the Nova series with a new life, considering the numerous upgrades and a series of new features. Those of us who are familiar with Huawei products must be familiar with the Nova series of smartphones that have been some of Huawei’s most popular devices. The Huawei Nova 5T has a 6.26inch screen that occupies most of the phone’s frontage. It uses the flagship Kirin 980 processor and is backed up with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The designers of this phone have done a great job by managing to minimize the bezel around the edge of the Nova 5T’s large 6.26inch screen. The bezel at the bottom is the biggest, at 5mm 42

JANUARY 2020

thick, while the rest of the screen has a 3mm border. The display of the Nova 5T squeezes right into all four corners, following the curve of the chassis, which gives it a smooth, generous-feeling finish. I have to say, this is one of my personal best features of the phone’s design. Unlike other phones of its peer which use pop-up selfie cameras that are hidden within the phone when not in use, the Huawei Nova 5T has come with its own interesting positioning of the front camera which is embedded into the top left corner of the screen leaving a 4mm diameter black hole that doesn’t extend beyond the notification bar at the top and is hardly noticeable while using the phone. After managing to get the phone myself for a day, I came up with the following detailed review based on the general feel and hands-on experience. I have divided this review into various topics so that you get the chance to read all there is to know about the new Huawei Nova 5T. To get a bigger glimpse of just what this amazing device offers, let me take you through most of its features in details.

Display

The Huawei Nova 5T’s IPS screen is excellent for what it is. Measuring 6.26 inches, it’s slightly smaller than most of its rivals, a good feature for people with smaller hands who find it difficult to scroll on large screens. Despite the smallness of its screen however, the phone boasts an impressive resolution of 2,340 x 1,080. In the default ‘Vivid’ display mode, which is easily selectable from the settings menu, I found it was capable of displaying 98.4% of the sRGB colour gamut which, according to me, is yet another amazing feature from the engineers at Huawei. Its brightness is also worth mentioning with maximum brightness being 422.9cd/m2, which is bright enough to see in sunny weather. Black and contrast levels are equally good, with an inky-looking black of 0.35cd/m2 and a good contrast of 1,215:1.

Performance and battery life

Most smartphone users nowadays want to know how their devices perform. Nobody wants a device that will lag and this has become one of the most considered features for buyers. The Huawei Nova 5T has power where it counts, with Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 980 processor which is backed-up by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. For those who are not familiar with the Kirin 980, the processor has been named one of the best in the market, giving its rivals a good run for their money. Its single-core result of 3,313 is also way ahead of most of its rivals. With the 128GB of internal storage there's plenty of storage space left, even after installing the most necessary apps. In addition to this, the HUAWEI nova 5T also has a few unique tricks meant to elevate your daily activities to a whole new and smarter level. This includes the popular GPU Turbo 3.0 feature, which is aimed at giving gamers a much needed boost in gaming performance for a more immersive gameplay. The Nova 5T has another unique feature for those who have a passion in directing and editing videos. The new AI powered Movie Editor uses powerful AI architecture to quickly and efficiently edit your videos to a professional level. The sound from the single loudspeaker at the bottom is well suited for hands-free phone calls. The speaker on the earpiece turns up beautifully loud and allows conversations in noisy environments. Its sound can be adjusted in many ways with a digital equalizer. With Bluetooth connections, aptX-HD can be used. The HUAWEI nova 5T hosts the powerful Huawei Histen 6.0 3D audio technology with support for 9.1 channel surround sound, boosting audio quality, an important feature while gaming or watching movies. With this device, the entertainment lovers will surely have an exceptional experience. The battery of the Nova 5T is capable of impressively withstanding up to seven hours of continuous use. With moderate use, I found out that it can last almost two days; a feature that favours travellers and other people like me who hardly get the time to charge their phones very frequently. In addition to this, the phone comes with a super fast charger. I recharged the battery from 5 to 85 percent within about an hour. The first 50 percent were available within 20 minutes, which would be enough for anyone planning a quick trip or a night out.

Huawei Nova 5T design and build quality

The Huawei Nova 5T has an attractive exterior design. The back is made of shiny, reflective metal, giving the phone a delicate yet strong look. Together with the hole in the front of the display that I mentioned earlier, these have all worked in bring a seductive face. The new Nova has borrowed some features from its sister brand, Honor, but also managed to come up with its own unique features. A special feature could be the fingerprint sensor on the side. The sensor is cleverly integrated in the power button on the right edge; thus in order to wake up the display you just have to touch the power button using one of up to five registered fingerprints without necessarily having to press the button itself. The front camera sits in a punch-hole on the upper left of the screen. It's a good location and much preferable to the notch design used in other devices as it detracts less from the display. Sitting above the screen of the Nova 5T, almost too small to notice, is a grille for the earpiece. This has a tiny notification and charge LED inside which I found to be pretty responsive and effective. Despite the grille and the punch-hole, the handset feels and looks like an all-screen front.

Huawei Nova 5T camera

As the main camera, the Huawei Nova 5T uses a 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture and autofocus. In addition, there is a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and fixed focus, a 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The latter supports the autofocus system with phase focus and contrast focus. As a front camera, the Huawei Nova 5T uses a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a fixed focal length.

Conclusion

With an attractive exterior design that is way ahead of its peer devices, accompanied with a powerful processor that boosts the phone’s performance, the new Huawei Nova 5T is not just an upgrade for the popular Nova series, but a smartphone that has considerably set a trend for other rivaling brands and once again brought Huawei to the spotlight as one of the world’s giants in the mobile phone industry. The Huawei Nova 5T is a phone that will give you a one of a kind experience and for those who want a fresh feel from the traditional smartphones, I do recommend the new Nova. Panorama, HDR, Bokeh and AI-supported scene detection modes are available for this device. Videos are stabilized with the main camera which enables you to capture videos of your favourite moments in impressive 4K quality as well as with the selfie camera which also offers full HD video quality. For those who love having fun with the camera, the Nova 5T has got you covered with fun features where you can replace faces with things like Animojis. On the back of the handset, there are four camera lenses, three of which are built into a raised, elongated lozenge alongside the camera flash, with the macro lens sitting to the side. The cameras are arranged in such a way that they help maintain the slimness of the phone by keeping the main body of the phone to a slim 7.87mm. Capable of recognizing up to 22 scenarios by adjusting the settings required, the AI feature ensures perfect shots. The AI features also include the AIS Super Night Mode and AI HDR+ backlit photo, which results in crisp and clear photos in situations with little to no light. Users can also get creative with the AI Portrait Color mode and Super Slow-mo at 960fps, giving stunning cinematic effects to their videos. One of those

features is where you can have just the subject in colour while the background is greyed out in real time. The camera also enables you to take smooth slow motion videos if you enjoy going pro with your videos.

Fast entertainment (2019) Everyone knows the situation after a long day at work, after an endless drive or a relaxed Sunday; the motivation to cook some healthy and fresh food decreases like your patience. After a short fight your stomach beats your brain and you pick up your phone to deliver your favourite fast food. Samy thinks that our current Netflix, Youtube and Social Media consumption is quite similar to that feeling. Everything has to be fast or even faster and that development doesn’t stop. He is a huge fan of Netflix and Instagram and Youtube are part of his daily life so don’t misunderstand him, but it’s really funny to see those parallels. So enjoy your meal! Selflove (2019) Do you love yourself? It’s really hard to answer this question. Samy would argue that everybody should be a huge fan of his/her own life, no matter what situation they are in. He knows that sounds like stupid motivational blurb but there is a reason why you are here. There are people you influence every single day and your time is a great gift. But like that birthday present from your uncle last summer it’s up to you to see the motivation and positive aspects behind that gift or to sell it on eBay or throw it away. His series tries to link daily objects with this message: YOU ARE PRICELESS! Creative Journey (2019) Samy tried to challenge himself at the beginning of 2019. He knew at that time it would take a lot of time to improve his skills and he asked himself if it was possible to upload a creative idea every single day for one year. The first weeks were really easy and the fast development motivated him to come up with new ideas. 46

DECEMBER 2019

But then it became harder and harder, other things crossed his challenge and the daily life knocked on Samy’s door. But never, ever underestimate the power of yourself and the possible improvement of one year. Good luck on your path and stay creative!

LET’S GET STARTED ON YOUR JOURNEY Fatema AlOthman

W

e are always moving to new stages in our lives and trying to increase the desire to start something new. Sports and health are always a priority for some people. But what is harder for you, getting started or staying committed? This week we’ll talk about getting started. This is the ultimate goal to make health and fitness a permanent part of your lifestyle. Here are some tips to help you get started on your journey:

1. Start to move more. Even if you don’t have an exercise program, you can begin to make an effort to move your body more every day. Take a walk, take the stairs, park a little further away from your destination, do some crunches while watching TV, play with your kids. There are so many ways to incorporate just a little activity into your everyday routine. 2. Drink water. Being dehydrated is not good for your body. It can make you overly tired and lethargic. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prep your body so you are extra hydrated when you do start a program. The recommended amount is

50

JANUARY 2020

8-10 glasses per day.

3. Avoid junk food. The reason you eat unhealthy food is

because you buy it! Empty your desk, cupboards, fridge, freezer, car and secret stash drawer of foods and drinks. If you want to reach your fitness goal, prevent temptation! Do not buy junk food and avoid ordering unhealthy options at restaurants. Not only are they not good for you, they can cause damage to your body via weight gain and disease.

4. Find your workout space. You do not need a huge and

expensive gym membership to start exercising, but it’s a good idea to start with an online fitness program at home or look for a good personal trainer to help you start your fitness campaign. Also, get your workout clothes out the night before to remind you that it’s time to exercise.
