RISING FROM THE There was a day in middle school that changed me forever. I was in my social studies class at my school in Toronto and had just spent twenty minutes venting to my teacher about how unfair and unjust the world was. I don’t remember what started the conversation, but what he told me still rings in my ear today. “Are you finished complaining and pointing out what’s wrong with the world?” he asked. I stared blankly at him. “Yes, but someone should….” “Stop right there,” he said. “Who is ‘someone’? If you’re going to sit there and complain about the world, why don’t you be the change you want to see?” “Me? But I’m only one girl!” “One person is all it takes.” I remember being silent on the drive back home after that lesson. I was so frustrated! I was complaining about big global issues and my teacher wanted me to do something about it. The thought was intimidating. Ever since that day, whenever I see something I don’t like, I ask myself, “what can I do to make a change?’ It is that very same thought that led me to my first general meeting of Soroptimist Kuwait. I had joined many other local and global societies in the past, all of which (to me) mostly fell short in their implementation and action plans. But my first

meeting with these ladies took my breath away. I can say for sure that it was the first time in my life, of all the places I had been, where I stood in a room full of professional and educated women whose only goal was to empower each other and others within the community. You could feel it just by sitting and observing the women in the room. By the end of the night these women became my sisters and I am forever in awe of the accomplishments we are able to achieve together. Soroptimist Kuwait is a branch of Soroptimist International, which works with international networks and partners, such as the United Nations and its agencies, the Commonwealth, and the Association for Women’s Rights in Development, to ensure that the needs of women and girls are represented in global policy and agenda-setting. For almost a century, Soroptomisits globally have been working to Eliminate Violence Against Women (EVAW) and girls and ensure women’s participation in conflict resolution. They have participated in several efforts including building shelters, aiding victims of violence, providing counseling services, lobbying for improved prevention programs and policies as well as raising awareness. In Kuwait, Soroptimist has successfully carried out the ‘Orange Campaign’ since 2016, which aims to generate awareness on gender based violence. Through this campaign, Soroptimist Kuwait has developed a yearly survey for both genders to measure this phenomenon with over 700 participants in 2017/2018. The results of these surveys have been published in the form

of educational brochures that display the data and educate the public on the UN’s definitions of violence. That, among many other actions taken under the EVAW initiative, which was led mostly through social media, having been supported by men and women together, ended the year 2018 with the ‘Orange Pledge’ to help raise women from the ashes of violence. It is disappointing when people undermine the importance of such initiatives. The fight for women’s rights globally is the core of all the changes that we aim for within our local and global communities. The subject of violence against women is a conversation that involves every member of the community, men and women alike. We need to raise boys who understand and respect the rights of women and girls who know their rights so that together, they will grow into men and women who bring equality and security to the world. In the movie Pay It Forward written by Catherine Hyde, we see how the actions of one person, however simple, can cause a ripple effect in changing a community. That is what we need to implement ourselves on an individual level every single day. In the movie, the main character, Trevor, is faced with an interesting assignment: to think of something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor conjures the notion of paying a favour not back,

but forward - repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people. Trevor's efforts to make good on his idea bring a revolution not only in the lives of himself, his mother and his physically and emotionally scarred teacher, but in those of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him. Like Trevor, we can bring change to our communities by doing simple deeds that speak up against violence. The first step is to raise awareness of the definition of gender based violence and break the silence on its existence. There is so much we can do to protect and empower women close to us by advocating for the creation of resources and shelters through our government to provide safe asylums for those who are affected by these crimes so that we can help them heal and build empowered lives. So many women suffer in silence either because they are afraid, have nowhere to turn to or, more shockingly, are unaware that they are subjected to abuse for lack of awareness. In 2018 Soroptimist Kuwait has achieved its goals in raising local awareness on the issue and aim to begin a year of taking action in 2019. Join us in breaking the silence. Like Trevor, start with your own circle of people. Do one thing each day that can improve the situation of girls and women. No action is too small. When our women heal, our communities will prosper.

FIND YOUR WHY Do you ever wonder, why? No, it’s not a song. It’s a purpose. Do you ever wonder why you do what you do? What gets you up in the morning? What gets you to bed looking forward to tomorrow? What gets you through the day, through the ups and downs and all the unwanted and unpleasant obstacles and struggles? Your why is lying somewhere deep inside you waiting to come out to help you perform at your best, even in your darkest moments. Your why is your anchor that holds you strong and keeps you focused and true to yourself and the people around you. I am Iman Metwally, a full time working mom who has been in the fitness field since a young age. I have always loved fitness and never thought of any other career to choose. Year after year I never contemplated quitting this filed and I didn’t know why! I listened to many people speaking about changing and creating better lives. These all seemed great to me, but it wasn’t what I was feeling deep inside me. I know I was doing that as a result of my work but was that my why? So, I decided to take the step and ask myself why I do what I do. It took me a while to discover and find my true why that anchors and helps me to stand for any obstacle and overcome any struggle. It took me a while to discover that I do what I do because I enjoy helping people and seeing them shifting from one place to a

better place through my guidance. I aspire to inspire people and help them believe in themselves and the various talents and skills they possess. One of my greatest feelings ever when it comes to work, and life in general, is empowering people to believe in themselves more and more each day. I am knowledgeable, strong and very passionate but that’s not why I am where I am today. I am where I am today because I am a patient human who believes in others and their capability to develop. I am where I am because I enjoy helping others and see them reaching and grabbing big opportunities. I enjoy giving and that’s the purpose behind my why. It’s that time of year when people will be looking to write down their New Year’s Resolutions and I encourage you to start the year thinking and finding your why. Let it be your anchor and support, the bridge between your reasons and your goals, and the fuel to better and more successful years ahead. In the New Year, I hope you feel and understand the multiple dimensions of success which, incidentally, will be the topic for my next article. Happy New Year, Middle East! Kuwait Kicks off the 2019 Red Bull Car Park Drift Series SIRBB CIRCUIT TO HOST THE NATIONAL FINAL

Red Bull Car Park Drift is once again back to Kuwait! The global qualifiers will be kicked off from Kuwait, moving from one city to another, with the series final hosted in Istanbul later in the year. Only a couple months since Lebanon welcomed elite drifters competing for the 2018 King of Drift thrown at the Red Bull Car Park Drift Series Final, Kuwait is ready to rev-up its engines for the local qualifiers of the 2019 series on February 1st at Sirbb Circuit. In celebration of eleven years since the first ever Red Bull Car Park Drift event in Lebanon, drifters will be competing to clinch the crown of the Kuwait 2019 King of Drift. Having hosted a successful adrenaline-filled Series Final in 2017, Kuwait is, no doubt, in the position to impress thousands of drifting and motorsport fans alike. Red Bull Car Park Drift is organized by Basel Salem AlSabah Motor Racing Club and is sponsored by Falken Tyres and Platinum Gym. Over 2,500 spectators will visit Sirbb Circuit on Friday February 1st, to witness throne-thirsty drifters go head-to-head for the

coveted title. With only one drifter from each participating country, Turkey will welcome the 2019 Kuwait King of Drift at the Series Final where he will compete to claim the Series Final throne. Kuwait’s drifter will face a fierce challenge for the King of Drift title, competing against drifters from twelve other countries that have participated in the series. The 2019 will be kicked off in Kuwait on February 1st and the competition will continue with qualifiers in Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Algeria, Mauritius, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, Georgia and Jordan. The competition, first hosted by Red Bull in Lebanon, is back providing drifting amateurs and professionals with the opportunity to highlight their skills and compete for the crown, while capturing the crowd’s attention. Last year’s final in Lebanon witnessed an exciting turnout, with Lebanese drifter, Oliver El Kik, securing the King of Drift crown after a stellar performance.

Lebanon hosted the first ever Red Bull Car Park Drift event in 2008 making it possible for all underground drifters to put their skills to the test, and placed the spotlight on rally champion Abdo Feghali, making him a drifting legend. On a global level, the story of drifting goes back to the 1960s on winding Japanese mountain roads. A bunch of likeminded racers set out to beat their A to B times by exceeding the grip limit of their tires when taking sharp corners. It did not do much to help their racing times but instead evolved into an entirely different discipline. Drifting was born, and a Red Bull manager discovered the sport in 2005, deciding to spark a fire in the Middle East, a fire that still burns to this very day. www.cpmagazine.net

DETOX YOUR MIND TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS IN 2019 At this time of the year, everybody talks about setting new goals and writing a new list of resolutions. This excitement about goals starts to fade by the beginning of February. One should wonder about the main reasons behind this kind of failing attitude. Why do we start to feel disappointed very early in the year? What most of us fail to recognize is that we carry blockages in our mind over the years. Those blockages will always slow down our growth. But the good news is, we can cleanse our mind of them and move forward. I will start to identify the main blockages and if you find yourself having two or more of them, then definitely you need to detox your mind. 1-Comparison: Each one of us is unique in his/her way of growth and progression. If your brother loses 10kg in one month and you lose only 3, and you both followed the same diet and workout system, then this is how your body is built and you need to accept and embrace it. 2-Exaggeration: Setting yourself to failure starts with unattainable goals. When you plan for a year, or even 5 years, you need to be realistic. Dream big but only when you know for sure that you can reach the big dream. 3-Open-ended time line: Lacking clear deadlines is just an encouragement to become lazy and postpone actions. 4-Great goals but no tasks: The goal is just a nice dream if it is not attached to a list of tasks and actions that can help you achieve and succeed. I have to lose weight. Great, most of us share this goal but we need to plan and organize our lifestyle to get rid of the extra kilos. 5-Complaining: When we see the dark side of every story, we can never enjoy the happy ending. You need to have a positive perspective and push yourself forward. Complaining leads to depression and selfdoubts. 6-The blame game: Believe me, you are enough. If you keep on blaming your genetics, parents, boss, or luck, then you will never grow and succeed. You are the only one responsible for your own progress. Now that we know the blockages, how do we detox our body and mind from them? Throughout the years I learned my lessons the hard way and I had to do extensive training to change my mindset. Yes, this is the magic word. You need to build a new mindset. If I were to recommend one major New Year resolution, it would be to change your mindset. You need to have a growth mindset that pushes you to accomplish and succeed in life. Changing your mindset requires mainly the following: 1-Determination and discipline: You need to be serious about your decision to accomplish your goals. Major decisions

come with responsibilities. You might have to give up a few fun activities and replace them with learning and development activities. You might not spend money on high end brands or dining in fancy restaurants because you paid one third of your current salary to attend an important online seminar that starts at 2:00am Kuwait time. When you have that kind of discipline, you will find yourself enhancing your strengths and fixing your weaknesses. Invest in learning because you will never know all it takes to become successful. Noone has a secret recipe. You need to create your own recipe of success through the hard work and the learning process. 2-Realistic approach: It is not healthy to lose 10kg from your body weight in one week. In fact, it is dangerous. Setting goals is amazing but you need to be smart about the way you measure your success and set deadlines. If you lose half a kilo in one week, it will still be a success. 3-Continuous affirmation: Negativity and self-doubt are increasingly blocking the success of many people. Keep on reminding yourself that you are strong and powerful. Stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself as if you are a devoted fan. Repeat positive messages to yourself. It will change your mood and it will put you on success mode in a matter of minutes. Repeat this every day. 4-Invest in growth: Talk to mentors. Do not rely on your friends and immediate family. Look for people who had the same struggles but still made it in life. Be around successful people. This is how you should spend your time. Read books, take courses, attend seminars and register for master classes. 5-Health and love come first: This is the most important point to consider. Your relationships with your spouse, kids, family

and friends are very important. They will always be your support and your army to fight for more success. They should know that they are priority. Love can make the journey happier and sweeter. Of course, you need to love yourself first. This starts by taking care of your health. Following a healthy lifestyle that includes healthy food and regular exercise will transform you body and your mind. When you look in the mirror and see your amazing body and your glowing skin, your affirmations will double in power. Keep on training yourself for a future full of success and happiness. Remember that you deserve all kinds of positive outcomes. Manifesting a magnificent vision requires serious work and a strong set of beliefs. Wishing everybody a very happy new year full of growth and success.

THE LONE DRONE Gill Sherry

We’ve all experienced some form of travel disruption, usually as a result of adverse weather conditions or an unfortunate traffic accident. As frustrating as it is, it’s just one of those things that must be tolerated and overcome. It may involve seeking an alternative route, accepting an inevitable delay or cancelling our plans altogether. More often than not, we’re annoyed by the inconvenience but thankful not to be involved in what caused the disruption in the first place. The major incident at London’s Gatwick Airport last month, however, was a little harder to swallow. By flying a drone directly over the airport, it is alleged that someone deliberately set out to cause major disruption by grounding thousands of flights during one of the busiest periods of the year. Almost one hundred and twenty thousand passengers were affected by the resulting chaos, their flights either cancelled, delayed or diverted. It’s one thing having to suffer such inconvenience as the result of a snow storm, for example, but knowing that someone deliberately set out to sabotage the plans of others is beyond belief. The first drone was allegedly spotted on Wednesday 19th December, forcing the airport to ground all flights. The drone was apparently of a commercial nature, thus substantial in size and an obvious threat to aircraft. There were over fifty reported sightings of the drone in a twenty-four hour period but no clue as to the operator. While airport officials, police and security services were focused on finding the culprit, thousands of passengers were forced to seek overnight accommodation, prepare for a diversion to an alternative city/country, or endure endless waiting inside the airport. Some, having already boarded, were stranded on the aircraft itself as it sat on the tarmac. What gives someone the right to cause such mayhem? Flights were resumed on Friday 21st December after previous attempts to re-open the runway were thwarted by reports of further drone sightings. Whilst some passengers were able to continue with their festive arrangements, albeit late, others had to abandon their plans altogether, the lengthy delay proving too much to overcome. It’s worth remembering that not everyone travels for fun. Some passengers take flights in order to visit sick relatives, attend funerals or help with aid relief in communities less fortunate than their own. At the time of writing, no-one has been charged in connection with the incident. Speculation as to the motive behind the disruption therefore continues. It is widely believed, but not confirmed, that environmental activists were behind the disruption, their intention to reduce aircraft

CO2 emissions as well as raise awareness of the damage caused to the environment by modern-day flights. It’s true that the carbon footprint of air travel is one of increasing concern (one economy class flight from Kuwait to London leaves a footprint of 1.6 tonnes of CO2) but deliberately disrupting the travel plans of thousands of people is not the way to gain support. Research shows that even those with strong climate change concerns are unwilling to alter their flying habits. If I’m honest, I probably fall within that category myself. But if people think they can change my mind by grounding flights, inconveniencing thousands of travellers and putting lives at risk, they are very much mistaken. Far from gaining sympathy and support, this kind of action will merely enrage and alienate. Safety issues have long been the subject of debate in relation to drones. The exclusion zone for drones in the UK is currently only 1km from airports and there have been several reports of near misses between drones and commercial aircraft. The recent incident at Gatwick highlights the importance of extending this exclusion zone but unfortunately it is of no consequence if someone has the malicious intent to suspend flights and maximise disruption. But what if there was no drone in the first place? Despite numerous reported sightings of the unmanned aerial vehicle, it is now suspected that no such UAV threat existed. Could environmental activists still be to blame, their intention to fabricate sightings in order to cause widespread panic? Or perhaps it was the act of a prankster getting kicks from the publicity received and subsequent disruption caused. Either way, it is far from acceptable and more than a little worrying that the perpetrator remains untraced. The fact that no-one has claimed responsibility could even support the theory that actually, there was no drone at all. And spare a thought for the couple who were arrested and publicly named before being released without charge in connection with the incident. If those caught up in the chaos felt aggrieved by the disruption, imagine how it felt to be detained for thirty-six hours and named and shamed by the press. The on-going consequences for this innocent couple go way beyond the inconvenience of a delayed flight or a cancelled holiday. No doubt people are still recovering from the repercussions of this unprecedented incident. The financial and emotional implications are massive but so too is the threat of a repeat situation. With no clue as to the offender or motive or, in fact, any evidence that the threat ever existed, it’s a subject likely to drone on for a long time yet.

SOCIAL MEDIA: LESS IS BEST Every year, I hear the same New Year’s resolutions. More often than not, they’re made by the same people who failed in their resolutions the year before. Despite their unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, get fit or quit smoking, here they are, twelve months later, making the same half-hearted promises to do something about it. Chances are, by the end of January, their determination will already be floundering. Still, who am I to criticise? I’ve been promising to stop biting my nails for over twenty years but still nibble the ends on an almost daily basis. So, will things be any different this year? Early signs suggest that maybe they will. Surprisingly, there is a new entry in the top ten of New Year’s resolutions. This year, in addition to the more predictable resolutions mentioned above, people are planning to cut down on their social media use. It’s a wellknown fact that social media platforms can influence our mood. In fact, over-use can have a serious effect on our mental health with ‘negative comparisons’ resulting in jealousy, depression and anti-social thoughts and behaviour. Like it or not, constant social media use is bad for our well-being. I must admit, I’ve never been a fan. I have no desire to see pictures of someone else’s dinner, nor to read so-called inspirational quotes, and certainly not to see holiday pictures of people I don’t even know. I’d rather have ten real-life friends than tenthousand virtual ones. I do realise, however, that I am in the minority and that most people enjoy scrolling through posts for hours at a time reading

fake news, admiring fake personalities and gaining fake followers. Each to their own. But maybe times are changing. I was gratified to learn that people are striving to limit their on-line use and to cut down on the wasted hours spent glued to their various social media apps. There’s nothing worse than watching a group of people engrossed in their smart phones when they should be communicating with each other. Perhaps they should start by abstaining when in company. After all, interaction is so much more satisfying in person than it is on-line. I’m not totally against social media. Amongst other things, it keeps families in touch, helps promote businesses and raises money for charity. On the flip side, however, it can abet insecurities, escalate violence and encourage cyber bullying. It also, without doubt, prevents us from interacting with family and friends and gleaning the countless advantages that come from nurturing those relationships. By staring at a social media app, we are sacrificing eyecontact with a loved one, rejecting a precious smile or dismissing the attention of someone much more important than any ‘follower’ can ever be. It’s about time we got our priorities right. I may not be a fan of New Year’s resolutions but when it comes to limiting the use of social media, I’m all for it. Let’s make this year’s resolution a successful one and give our attention to those who deserve it. Time is valuable, spend it wisely.

Hi, I am Chadan, a Tunisian model and lifestyle influencer living in Kuwait with a love for fashion.

Tell us about your education.

I hold a Masters degree in Physical Education.

When and how did you come to Kuwait?

I came to Kuwait 6 years ago for a business assignment.

When did you discover your interest in modelling?

I dreamt of becoming a model since I was young. I tried it in Tunis but my family believed that education should be completed before anything else and therefore refused me the opportunity of doing anything but studying.

How did you get into modelling? What do you think is the secret to your success in such a short time? I started modelling about 3 years ago. I believe the secret to my success is my self confidence. I had a goal that I had to reach. That's why I started doing research and reading about modelling. It was most important that I have qualifications. Being known in a short time is because I have a vision to achieve. Also, the most important thing in any job is to love it and I give love from the heart.

Are there any no-goes for you? When do you say, ‘No, I won’t do it!’?

I say no when someone I work with is not professional or doesn't have a proper plan for the shoot. And I say no for shoots that require my looks to be very bold.

Describe your perfect day off when you are not modelling?

My day off is always my perfect day because that's the only day nothing is scheduled and everything is unexpected. I love gathering with friends and going out - and most likely sleeping!

What is your beauty routine?

I do daily gym workouts and also regular sports. I occasionally get a massage, a facial or hair mask treatments.

What do you do to stay in shape?

As well as the daily exercises mentioned above I drink lots of water and eat healthy food.

Where does your self-confidence come from?

It comes from the people who love me, the people who helped me come this far.

What are your best memories since you started modelling?

The best moments are my first photo session, the first time being on stage for a fashion show and first time I was with an international designer, Yousef AlJasmy. Also, the first fashion show where I was the main model for all designers at Sehr AlSharq. This all happened in a short space of time.

WILD, WET AND WINDY: FAROE ISLANDS WHERE: EUROPE

Remotely clustered in the North Atlantic Ocean, a rugged archipielago of eighteen mountainous islands erupt out of the ocean in imposing basalt cliffs. The Faroe Islands, translated directly as ‘sheep islands’, is a self-governing nation under the external sovereignty of Denmark. Sandwiched between Nordic neighbours Iceland and Norway, the islands offer vast, untamed and spectacular landscapes that are immediately impressive and undeniably compelling. Travellers are often made small by the grandiosity of the natural environment; the daunting sea cliffs, the unforgiving waves that ripple against the coastline, and the lush green valleys surrounded by steep mountains. The Faroese eat cod and haddock - masses of it - typically prepared in one of two ways. When eaten fresh, the fish is subjected to prolonged boiling (or ‘killed twice’ as some locals put it). The Faroese also preserve fish, though not with such familiar Nordic techniques as salting or smoking. The islands are so windswept that almost no trees grow, and as a result there’s little lumber available either to manufacture salt or to generate smoke. The Faroes remain a relatively undiscovered corner of Europe, mainly because they are perceived as being too far away from everything. EASTER ISLAND: A WONDERFUL ENIGMA

There’s no inhabited spot in the world quite so isolated as Chilean Polynesia. A mere dot in the vast Pacific Ocean, Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is a one-of-a-kind destination whose very remoteness lends it unmistakable authenticity and an aura of mystery. It’s high time to come and uncover its secrets! The Rapanui people thrived in their isolation, creating a culture unlike any other. Nearly 1,000 carved stone moai bear witness to this, as do the ceremonial platforms, petroglyphs, cave art and more. The Rapanui also developed the only written language in all of Polynesia. The most photographed site is Ahu Tongariki, where 15 moai stand looking towards the hills – moai face inland as they were guardians of the scattered groups that dwelt on Rapa Nui. Go at dawn or dusk for the best views and photographs. The Hanga Roa harbour is a perfect place to see sea turtles. If you stop by while fishermen are hauling in their catch and cleaning the fish, you can spot the turtles floating just beneath the surface, waiting to snack. If you do have environmental concerns and are up for a bit of adventure (and a workout), you can go by bike, foot, or even horseback. Because some places aren’t accessible by car, going on a horse or by foot can allow you to reach some of the island’s hidden treasures.

MYTHS AND MAGIC IN BHUTAN WHERE: ASIA

Tucked between China and India at the eastern end of the Himalayan chain, it is the most remote and the least touched by modernity country. Bhutan is the only remaining Buddhist state in the region. With less than a million inhabitants and about a dozen languages it is also, arguably, the most varied, both in its terrain and human geography. It is also the ideal place for trekking in a beautiful landscape of sacred mountains, lush valleys, remote temples and fortressmonasteries. Unlike in other countries, Bhutan has a strict limit to its tourism industry in the hope to protect its traditional culture. The tourism industry in Bhutan is operated in line with the principle of sustainability, being environmentally and ecologically friendly, socially and culturally acceptable, and economically viable. As such, visitors are only given permission to enter the country after a trip has been booked with an approved travel agency and the fee (a minimum of US$250 per day, all-inclusive) has been paid in full. Be prepared for a lot of jaw-dropping experiences, like when, after hiking through thin air and up steep slopes, you finally catch a glimpse of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, a 17th-century meditative fortress whose precarious perch on the side of a mountain makes it all the more formidable. These people are friendly, happy and proud of their heritage, and they will do wonders in helping you understand a country that has long been shrouded in myths and mysteries.

AFRO-MEDITERRANEAN VIBE IN MOZAMBIQUE WHERE: AFRICA

Mozambique beckons with its ravishing coastline, buzzy Afro-Mediterranean vibe, fascinating tradition and richly infused culture. The main coastline and remote archipelagos offer coral reefs, rainbow-coloured fish, graceful dhows and powderwhite beaches. For over 400 years, the Portuguese colonised Mozambique, leaving a captivating legacy of colonial-style architecture and a flamboyant culture rich in tradition and history. Since the mid-1990s, Mozambique has seen a complete transformation and has blossomed into one of the fastest growing economies in Africa with tourism benefitting enormously. My name is Sandra Carina Khachab. I am a social media manager and model with a huge love for friends, family, fashion and travel. I was born in Germany but live in Lebanon.

Tell us about your education.

I grew up studying at the German school in Lebanon and pursued my Bachelors in Fashion Design and Fashion Business.

How and when did you get interested in modelling?

My interests in fashion, beauty, creativity and photography since I was 14 are what got me into modelling. Keep in mind that it is not my main career but modelling gives me good opportunities and experiences.

What was your first job? How did it feel?

My first ever job was shooting for a clothing line. It felt natural to me.

What was your most memorable shoot?

My most memorable shoot was shooting a music video with two class A famous singers in the Middle East. The video is to be released soon.

What does your role as a Social Media Expert entail?

It entails creativity, understanding business, communication skills and, most importantly, social media management.

What is your beauty regime?

My beauty regime is very simple - getting enough sleep, treating my skin gently and protecting it daily, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and trying to manage stress.

How do you stay in shape?

Due to my high metabolism I am able to control my weight, but I work out once a week with a personal trainer to stay healthy and active.

How would you define your personal style?

I now find myself loving more classic pieces that always stay in style and sometimes switch it up with body-con dresses, slit dresses and crop tops.

How many languages do you speak? Three - English, Arabic and German.

What are some of your hobbies?

Travelling, exploring and learning new languages.

What are your favourite hang out spots in Beirut?

I just love trying new places in Beirut and I enjoy multiple places in Downtown Lebanon. It’s a classy and great area for shopping and dining.

TWO THINGS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON INSTEAD OF SOCIAL MEDIA John Weiss

very Monday and Wednesday, I pay a guy to push my heart rate into the stratosphere and turn my muscles into mush. His name is Tyler, and he’s my personal trainer. For years, I worked out on my own. Haphazardly. I’d run a bit here, lift some weights there. I seldom warmed up and frequently forgot to stretch.

When I was younger, this exercise approach basically worked. I built some muscle and stamina. However, as I aged, injuries started to mount. My shoulders became stiff. I gave myself tennis elbow from too many curls. Last year, I finally bit the bullet and coughed up some dough for a twiceweekly trainer. That’s where Tyler comes in. He went over my entire health history, injuries and fitness goals. Then he measured my body fat, fashioned a training plan and we were off to the races. Now, every Monday and Wednesday, whether I want to or not, I’m at the gym. We focus on core training, sort of like CrossFit. After the workouts, I’m exhausted, but it’s a good kind of exhaustion. When I get home, I stretch, shower, and drink lots of water. In fact, I eliminated caffeine from my diet completely. When you pay for a personal trainer, it’s harder to flake on workouts. Paying makes it more of a priority. While everyone else in the gym is snapping Instagram photos or getting lost on Facebook, Tyler is putting me through the paces. Now, even when I work out alone, I always leave my iPhone in the car. What does any of this have to do with social media? Mostly, that there are no short cuts to any place worth going. Social media sucks a lot of time out of your day. It may be entertaining, and it can be helpful to market your business or art. But it distracts you from achieving greater, personal success. Authors Gary Keller and Jay Papasan wrote the book, “The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results.” The book drives home the importance of priorities. Some of the points they touch on include:

lAchievers use a success list, not a to do list. They have a strong sense of priority. lIf you want extraordinary results, you need to narrow your focus. lDo your most important work, your “one thing” when your willpower is strongest. For many people, that’s early in the day. lAsk the question: What’s the one thing I can do that will make everything else easier? Essentially, the authors suggest that in every aspect of your life, prioritize the one thing that is most important. For most of us, social media is probably not what’s most important.

A seemingly invaluable tool

Not everyone agrees with Newport, but I think he’s on to something. When I was a teenager, I dreamed of becoming a rock star or cartoonist. My father urged me to get an education and pursue a reliable, stable career. “Enjoy your cartooning and music, but have something solid to fall back on,” Dad used to say.

Everywhere you look these days, you’ll find online life coaches, aspiring writers and artists, as well as all manner of businesses leveraging social media to promote themselves. Yet, for many of them, the stuff they’re peddling is not that unique or valuable. It doesn’t stand out from all the other noise.

So, I went to college and studied criminal justice administration. On the side, I performed in a rock band and drew cartoons for the campus newspaper. Later, I went to grad school, attained a Master’s degree, and enjoyed a 26 year career in law enforcement.

Apart from mindless entertainment, social media has become a seemingly invaluable tool to promote your business, entrepreneurial ambitions, and creative pursuits.

Technology has removed the gatekeepers of the past. Anyone can create an online platform for their art, music or business. They don’t have to convince agents, editors or investors anymore. Unfortunately, there is no quality control. As a result, many aspiring writers, artists and entrepreneurs have their hearts broken. They spend a lot of money on fancy websites, logos, photos and newsletter services.

My police career taught me volumes about people, responsibility, leadership, and more. The last ten years of my career I served as Chief of Police. I learned tons about politics, community issues, budgets, recruitment, retention, media relations and the fact that it’s impossible to make everyone happy. I don’t know where I’d be today had I tried to become a rock star or famous cartoonist. What I do know is that I developed invaluable skills in my law enforcement career. I honed a strong work ethic, personal discipline, good habits, solid writing and speaking skills, and the ability to delay gratification. The many experiences, skills and abilities I developed over my career helped me become a better writer and artist. Rare and valuable skills are what set you apart from everyone else. You have to create value to get value.

Be like the Mona Lisa

Author and marketing expert Seth Godin wrote a short but excellent blog post titled, “Social media is a symptom, not a tactic.” Godin points out that if you’re doing remarkable work and your organization has “built a social ratchet that works,” you’ll have a significant social media presence. Godin adds:

They launch their websites, post like crazy all over social media, and wonder why the response is crickets. It’s sort of like building a fancy sports car, with a spectacular paint job and accessories. Except the car doesn’t have an engine. Sexy on the outside, but don’t look under the hood. Social media success is a side effect of quality, not the cause. You can pretty your Instagram account all you want, and upload all kinds of lovely pictures on your Facebook page. None of that stuff, by itself, will make your art or business take off. If you want to be successful with your art or business, stop spinning your wheels on social media. Instead, focus on these two things:

Rare and valuable

Produce things that are rare and valuable. Instead of wasting all day grooming superficial stuff on social media, pour your energy into mastering a difficult skill. If it’s not difficult, it won’t be rare. You won’t stand out, and success will elude you.

A better writer and artist

Author Cal Newport’s book So Good They Can’t Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love argues that following your passion is bad career advice. Rather, you should pursue work that interests you to develop skills and career capital along the way. It’s helpful if the work aligns well with your aptitudes, too.

“On the other hand, if you spend all your time beginning at the end, grooming your social network, tweezing your Insta posts, hyping your tweets–nothing much is going to happen.” To drive home his point, Godin points to the Mona Lisa: “The Mona Lisa has a huge social media presence. Her picture is everywhere. But she doesn’t tweet. She’s big on social media because she’s an icon, but she’s not an icon because she’s big on social media.”

Rome wasn’t built in a day

Recently, I began studying figure drawing with Scott Waddell, a classically trained and talented painter. Also, I’ve studied landscape painting at length with Scott L. Christensen, a master artist. The time, travel and expense of studying with these artists is considerable, but as noted above, “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” I could waste time surfing social media, and paint only when inspiration strikes. But when I upload my artwork on Instagram and Facebook, I shouldn’t wonder why no one pays attention. The solution, rather than trying to endlessly spruce up my website and social media posts, is to put in the hard work. Get up early, or stay up late honing my skills. Seek the best instruction you can afford. Relentlessly practice. Constantly compare your work to better artists, creators or entrepreneurs. Continue to focus on the ONE THING that you need to do to move forward. Are you producing things that are rare and valuable? If not, stop grooming superficial work online and start developing the skills to produce rare and beautiful things. It may take time. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Some of the skills you’ll learn might come from unlikely places. Keep focused on your ONE THING. Get the best instruction you can. Work hard. In time, you’ll start producing rare and valuable work. People will start to notice. And then, maybe your stuff will be the talk of social media.

start for my career and a good way to have the best education. How and when did you discover your love for aesthetics and design? I come from a family with great artistic interests and from a young age I discovered my passion for aesthetics. My parents used to take my sisters and I to museums and art galleries and I started designing and making small pieces of jewellery when I was 15 years old. When did you decide to start your own design studio? How was it at the beginning and what challenges did you face at the start-up stage? In 2002 I decided to pursue my true passion and set up an interior design studio. At the beginning I started designing and selling furniture, which was difficult because nobody knew me. After a few years I had quite a name as a furniture designer and that gave me the opportunity to start as an interior designer. Can you remember your first design project? The first project was, of course, my own house. It was a good way to show my abilities to other potential clients. How would you describe your design style? How varied are your designs? Do you have a signature touch with your designs? My style is eclectic, cosmopolitan, cheerful and modern. I love modern designs but in my projects I also include antique pieces that give spaces a special touch. My signature is this mix of modern and antique.

Please introduce yourself to our readers. I am Inés Benavides, a Spanish designer, married with a 17 year old daughter. I am crazy about architecture, art and design. I have directed numerous interior design projects in Spain and abroad, specializing in urban residential projects, offices and commercial property. I also design and create furniture. Tell us about your education. I studied in French schools in different countries of Europe and America. After school I decided to pursue a solid academic background and trained as a mining engineer in Madrid and Paris. Why did you choose to train as a mining engineer? What do you love about being a designer? Where do you draw your inspiration from? Design has been my hobby since I was a kid. It´s my way of living, my passion. I can´t imagine my life without design. My inspiration comes from everything I see around me; my travels, the museums, a beautiful space, etc. What are some of your most popular designs/projects? Tell us a bit about some of them and what you love about them. What’s your favourite and why? It is difficult to choose. In terms of furniture, the most popular is the CUBB, a piece that can be used as a table or stool. My preferred interior design project is always the last one. I put so much energy, work and enthusiasm into my projects, they become my little babies!

Is there anything exciting you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about? I have several projects now, but I am very excited about working on a luxury furniture collection in bronze. What is your philosophy on design and life? My best achievement has been being able to make a living from my big passion - design. When you really love what you do, you become really good at it. And, of course, you have a lot of fun. What is the most frustrating aspect of your job as a designer? And the most rewarding one? Sometimes projects take a long time and you have to be very patient to see the final result. The most

rewarding moment is when my clients come into their house for the first time and they are really happy with the result and very grateful to the team for making it possible. Tell us something unusual that happened in your career. I become very close with some of my clients because, through their houses, I enter their lives. When you enter someone elseÂ´s family, there are often unusual situations. Sorry, but I have to be discreet about the details! We have heard that you have lived in many different countries and also speak different languages. My father was an ambassador so I have lived in 7 countries and speak 4 languages. My life in large European and American cities allowed me to

learn about different ways of life, cultures and aesthetics. What is your favourite way to spend your weekend? I love being with my husband and daughter. Anything around them is the best plan. What advice do you have for young designers or architects reading this interview? Be very honest with yourself when you design or when you work on a project. Interesting facts about Valencian Paella • Did you know that the word ‘paella’ refers to the pan it is cooked in and not the dish itself? • One of the most important elements to a good paella is the rice, hence the importance of selecting ‘Bomba' rice. • The meat (chicken and rabbit) are the key ingredients that will add flavour to the dish. • The Paella is, above all, a social act in which family or friends meet, usually on Sundays, around a fire. • The critical moment in the preparation of the Paella is undoubtedly the end of the cooking of the broth. That is when we are going to get the firmness and texture of the rice, so fire control is crucial. • Tradition says that the paella must be placed in the center of the table so the diners can eat straight out of the pan.

The 14 Steps Preparation Method

1.Cut the meat, without seasoning, into 50-60g pieces. 2.Chop the ‘batxoqueta’ (lima and green beans) into bite-sized pieces, peel the ‘garrofón’ and grate the tomatoes.

3.Pour the oil into the leveled paella pan and heat the oil on a low heat. 4.Add the chicken and rabbit until well browned. 5.Stir-fry carefully the ‘batxoqueta’,’roget and ‘garrofó’ (lima and green beans).

6.Move aside the vegetables and pour the grated tomato in the middle,

add salt and stir-fry.

7.Add a teaspoonful of paprika and stir to combine with the tomato. 8.Stir all ingredients together and continue frying until the meat is well browned and the vegetables and tomato well stir-fried.

9.Next, pour the water into the pan until it almost reaches the top of the pan. Bring the mixture to the boil. When it starts to boil, add the saffron. Add salt to taste then add the fresh rosemary twig and take it out after 10 minutes. 10.Cook over a low heat for 30-40 minutes. In the event that before this

time the water level decreases below the rivets of the handles of the pan, add water. It is not a problem to take broth out in the case of an excess or adding water, but always before adding the rice.

11.At this point, if required, add the snails. Add the rice drawing a line along the pan’s diameter (‘cavalló’). 12.Spread soft and uniformly the rice with the spatula and place the meat

and vegetables proportionally. Return the mixture to the boil and cook the rice over a fairly high heat for 5 minutes. Afterwards, lower to medium heat and, for the final 4-5 minutes, lower again to very low heat. Total boiling time of around 18-20 minutes. Never exceed this cooking time. The rice must be dry and the grain entire.

13.If the paella came up short of broth, lower the heat to the minimum and cover the top with aluminium foil.

14.It is recommended to leave the paella to stand for around 5 minutes before serving.

Valencian Paella Recipe

Recommended pan size: from 42 to 46cm in diameter. Ingredients for 4 servings: • 400g of Bomba rice (if not available use short-grain rice) • 500g of chicken, cut into 50-60g pieces • 500g of rabbit, cut into 50-60g pieces • 200g of ferradura (wide green/runner beans) • 150g of clean ‘garrofón’ (local big white lima bean) • 2 medium size ripe tomatoes • 1 teaspoonful of sweet paprika (preferably smoked paprika) • A few saffron threads, coupé quality preferably • 250g of pre-cooked snails (optional) • 120ml of soft flavoured virgin olive oil • A fresh Rosemary twig * 4 or 5 parts of water for one part of rice

What are some common myths about creative directors? That art directors rely on their technical skills and taste to help a team get the job done. In fact, they need to have a strong point of view and vision and they must be able to articulate that vision, creating ideas that are big enough not just to hold a great concept, but great content as well. What five tools do you use most regularly in your work? Camera, lphone, notebook, photoshop software, measurement tape. What would you say are some of the main challenges that you face in your work right now? Recently, I have enjoyed the great pleasure of seeing the Sudanese sax player, Aiman Nour, playing at the Riyadh Four Seasons Hotel. This is a fabulous location in the Kingdom Tower, with the luxurious openair Grill Bar providing the finest meat. Aiman is a great sax player bringing feeling and emotion to his music. I was lucky enough to interview Aiman and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m looking forward to seeing more of his performances in 2019. 58

What about jazz bands in Riyadh - do you know any?

In the last two years, many musicians and bands have started to appear in Riyadh, thanks to the Kingdom’s opening policy. Actually, I know most of them.

Where is your favourite place in Riyadh to play?

For me, the best places to play in Riyadh are the big events. The Entertainment Committee events, for example, in universities and open areas where I can find more audiences and more followers. I also love to play at the Four Seasons Hotel where the audience knows about jazz and Western music.

Are you going to play internationally?

It is a dream for me to play my music internationally and I have to pursue it. I hope one day I can go for it.

What kind of saxophone do you play and why did you choose it?

There are so many kinds of saxophone. As you may know there is a Soprano, the smallest of the saxes, and the Alto, which is bigger. My favourite is the Tenor, a little bigger than the Alto. I like it because of how it sounds. The tones make it a very fascinating instrument which takes you far away from this world. The Baritone sax and the Bass series are much bigger but no-one is playing them unless in a big orchestra.

How do you see the music industry across the Kingdom?

The music industry in the Kingdom is growing but growing slowly. It needs more time and effort to expand. For example, it should be in school tuition otherwise it will need decades to grow.

Where is the dream location for you to perform a concert?

There are so many places that I dream to play. There’s the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh. Also the Royal Court, Diplomatic Quarter where I played twice at the Italian Embassy. Generally, every place matters to me. The most important is to play perfectly and to always give the audience the best concert we can.

Aiman, please tell us where you are originally from.

I am from Sudan, from a lovely city located in the south of the central province called Kosti, which lies on the west side of the Nile. It is an amazing place, a place full of fun and kindness. The people there are very simple and humble. They make you feel like someone special when they warmly welcome you.

Where we can hear your music in the near future?

I am playing now at the Four Seasons Hotel in the Riyadh Kingdom Tower. I have a contract with them for one year so I will be playing there many times.

When did you begin to study the saxophone?

I began my music career around 18 years ago. I played flute first of all and after a while, started to play saxophone, let’s say 9 years ago.

Do you have a favourite saxophonist?

My favorite saxophone player is not very well known but he is very talented. He is from Canada and his name is Warren Hill. Also, a friend of mine, Mahmoud Mustafa is another favourite. He is a Sudanese saxophonist.

Do you usually play solo or with a group?

I like to play both ways, as solo or with other musicians. However, playing with other musicians requires more practice in order to find harmony together. It needs lots of effort and many workshops.

has tried hard to catch up with the juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following the flops in Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League they had some lifeblood pumped back into their veins with Wonder Woman. And now, Aquaman serves the DC Universe well by essentially taking the dark characters and even darker film tones and trading them in for colourful and vibrant characters and scenery. It would be amiss not to note that Jason Momoa is largely the credit for this film’s success. Between his charisma and pure macho man aura, there’s a lot going on in this film that gives just about something for everyone who watches it.

Here come the spoilers. There’s plenty going on in this film and it gets you started right with the love story of Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and a lighthouse keeper named Thomas Curry. It is a forbidden love that results in Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) being born. His birth results in his mother being executed, a punishment for bearing a half breed son. William Dafoe plays Vulko who promised Atlanna he would watch over and train her son (she believed that one day he would unite the people of both land and sea). We get pulled to present day where we see Arthur, aka Aquaman, save a submarine from pirates. During this rescue he defeats the father and son leaders of the pirate crew. He leaves them behind and the father dies as a result. The son is now driven for revenge and this sets up a Black Manta storyline. Back in Atlantis, Prince Orm (son of the former King and Queen Atlanna) is making moves to control all seven seas to lead an uprising against the surface world.

His betrothed, Princess Mera (Amber Heard), is against this idea of war with the surface and goes to see Arthur to bring him to Atlantis to claim his right as King. To do so they will need to find the Trident of Atlan, the first King of Atlantis, who has the power to unite all seven seas and control the oceans. The film invokes a feeling of Tomb Raider, James Bond and Avatar (mostly due to the blues). The film jumps locations from the depths of the ocean, to the desert of the Sahara, to a seaside town in Italy. Fight sequences are well done and there is just the right balance of comic relief spread throughout to keep things light. Yet there is just a minor detail that would bring in the climactic scene and the brother versus brother theme better. I would do a side-by-side montage showing the two brothers being raised, one to be empathic and kind to both land and seas, the other to be callous and hateful of the surface world. This would better establish the villain of Prince Orm and lend the climactic scene a better punch than what is delivered. DC did well with the quick establishment of Black Manta but failed in showing us Prince Orm’s convictions and what raised him to have them. I hope this film does well, not only for Jason Momoa’s career, but also for DC to keep building on good films. This film is very good, but easily could have been better with just a minute of history of Prince Orm inserted against Arthur’s upbringing to compare and contrast the two brothers so when they do go head to head, it is greatly enhanced emotionally. Please introduce yourself to our readers. I’ve had a heavy interest in fashion all my life and have always had a passion to inspire people to look their best on a daily basis. I started as an influencer four years ago. I’m also currently pursuing a career in fashion buying. I love to share my lifestyle, personal fashion, beauty and healthcare with my followers in the best possible way so they can be inspired. Tell us about your education. I graduated in Business Management. I was always the smart girl with a creative side. Studying management has most definitely helped me maintain that smart side. How and when did you land in UAE? I moved to Dubai three years ago because I was always attracted to glamour, luxury and fashion. With Dubai being the hub of those qualities, I had to end up here. What are you currently doing? I am currently working in fashion buying and have also taken up modelling and promotional assignments. This is a hobby and passion of mine. How did your modelling career begin and why modelling? Modelling for me began when I was picked at university for a beauty pageant which I was secretly looking forward to. What was your first big break in the industry? When I was chosen for Femina Miss India. This opened many big doors for me. What’s one of the most interesting shoots you’ve done? I have always loved shows where I had to dress up wearing interesting and unique headgear. Also, I remember doing the Jack & Jones youth show which had a gothic theme - that was quite fun! I also truly adore photo shoots and ramp walks with ethnic jewellery and traditional outfits. What is your personal style? My personal idea of style is something subtle, yet bold enough to make a statement. I wouldn’t go for very bright colours but instead would like to pull off something neutral and chic. I think makeup plays a very important role. You can make a simple outfit fancy by just doing a smoky eye or a red lip. 72

How do you keep in shape? I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t follow any vigorous workout as such. I just try to maintain a low carb diet and stick to some cardio whenever I get time. Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s your favourite snack? I am a huge fan of cheese. Whenever I cheat, it has to be for snacks related to cheese. Your favourite city to visit and to shop? I really think Dubai has anything and everything that I love. I have never really felt the need to go anywhere abroad to shop. How do you combine modelling and being an influencer? Do you ever get overwhelmed by the work? I think modelling and promoting go hand in hand. Modelling has really helped me understand the perfect way to showcase clothes and beauty products etc. It can get a little exhausting at times having two jobs but it is something I truly enjoy and where my passion lies so I can happily manage. What is your favourite healthy snack? I love quick protein bars, especially in all the tasty flavours. They keep me going throughout the day! How would your friends describe you? Outgoing, life of the party, enthusiastic and ambitious. What are some of your hobbies? I love belly dancing. Since moving to Dubai, I have taken up training for belly dancing. Every year, or new year to be exact, we find ourselves making promises and applying them with intense imagination and determination to realize and fulfill them. We sometimes write them down, or try our hardest to memorize them so that they are our invisible post-ads at the back of our minds, reminding us to push harder, work more and laze less. But little do we know that by the time it’s that second beyond our new year, the magic begins. ‘What magic?’ you may ask. Well, loads of magic! That new year magic that allows us to imagine our best destiny; the magic that aids our dreams to come true; that magical thing that is called HOPE or LOVE. It is a PROMISE, followed by COMMITMENT. Even if we start with baby steps in the right direction we will soon reach our goals in record time. Imagine that! And by spring time of the new year lovely unexpected things start to happen. Porsche has expanded its range of compact SUVs with the addition of the powerful Macan S. The new model from the sports car manufacturer features a new three-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with a gasoline particulate filter. It delivers 354 hp (260 kW) and has a maximum torque of 480 Nm, representing an increase of 14 hp (10 kW) and 20 Nm compared with the previous model. When equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the new Macan S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds quicker than its predecessor. The vehicle’s top speed is 254 km/h, whilst the fuel consumption (NEDC-correlated) is 8.9 l/100 km. The new Macan S offers all the product innovations of the latest generation Macan model range, including an LED light bar at the rear and the new Porsche Communication Management system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen. New V6 engine with central turbo layout The Porsche Macan S is now equipped with a newly developed 3.0 litre V6 turbo engine. Using the central turbo layout, the turbocharger is located in the inner V, resulting in short exhaust gas paths between the combustion chambers and the turbocharger to ensure outstanding and immediate responsiveness. The new twin-scroll turbocharger provides high torque at low engine speeds. With

twin-scroll technology, the exhaust gas flows are continuously fed to the turbine wheel as separate streams significantly reducing any charge cycle disadvantages. The further-developed combustion chamber geometry with a central injector promotes efficient fuel mixture preparation. In addition to the increase in the power output per litre, from 113 to 118 hp, emissions have also been reduced. Newly tuned chassis for enhanced balance As distinctively sporty as ever, the Macan’s chassis features mixed-sized tyres and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) four-wheel drive, and has been overhauled and optimised as part of this model’s facelift. On the front axle, spring forks made from aluminium replace the previous steel components. The new light alloy design is more rigid and reduces unsprung mass, making the steering on the Macan more precise and improving ride comfort. Newly tuned sway bars also ensure more neutral handling. RunKuwait 2018 initiative will contribute to offering more than 1,000 free treatment sessions for children with special needs at CERC

Fawzia Sultan Healthcare Network (FSHN) concludes yet another successful RunKuwait race in support of children with special needs. The race which took place on Saturday, December 15th, marks the biggest race in the history of RunKuwait. More than 2,900 participants had registered to the race to support one cause, raising awareness and funds towards the treatment of children with special needs. The RunKuwait initiative in its eighth year raised more than KD 60,900 which is estimated to provide more than 1,000 treatment sessions at no cost for the children treated at the non-profit Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC). These free of charge sessions are in addition to the subsidized ones, which are offered on a case-bycase basis, where up to 90% of the costs are also covered by the center.
