A NEW KIND OF LUXURY: MICHAEL KORS UNVEILS FALL 2019 MICHAEL KORS COLLECTION AD CAMPAIGN
Michael Kors is pleased to announce the launch of its new Fall 2019 Michael Kors Collection ad campaign, photographed by the renowned Dutch duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Shot inside a classic New York mansion, the ad campaign featuring model Rianne Van Rompaey tells the story of an effortlessly glamorous woman hanging out in her luxurious digs. “For Fall, we wanted to capture the eclectic glamour of the runway collection,” says Michael Kors. “The Michael Kors Collection campaign offers an inside peek into the lives of today’s luxury jet setters. The rich layers of private life and romance found in the images complement the mood, chic and drama of our Fall collection.” Dramatic feather embroidery, sharp herringbone tailoring, show-stopping sequins and dance-inspired prints take center stage against the ornate décor, while the new MKC monogramme embellishes luxe travel bags. Throughout the ad campaign, the juxtaposition of the glamour of the Fall 2019 Michael Kors Collection with Rianne’s nonchalance demonstrates a relaxed, modern and irreverent kind of luxury. The global campaign will debut in July, with print ads running in fall issues worldwide. The images will also appear in digital outlets, as well as social media platforms and traditional outdoor media placement.
TAG Heuer Unveils 3rd Limited Edition Monaco Watch to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Iconic Timepiece
TAG Heuer hosted an unforgettable evening at landmark New York venue Cipriani Wall Street to unveil the latest limited-edition Monaco timepiece in honour of the 50th anniversary of the brand’s iconic watch. The exclusive event was attended by brand ambassador, race car driver and 2017/2018 Formula E Champion Jean-Éric Vergne, Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey, and former Miss Universe and friend of the brand, Paulina Vega, who was the host for the evening’s festivities. Other notable attendees included former Miss Universe and fashion model Olivia Culpo, recording artist Young Paris, Formula E founder and CEO Alejandro Agag who helped celebrate the momentous occasion. Upon arrival, guests walked through a TAG Heuer heritage exhibition before entering the majestic event location. To unveil the timepiece, a spectacular light show illuminated the grand hall with neon lights and video projections showcasing the history of TAG Heuer Monaco, leading up to the reveal of the latest limited edition inspired by the 1990s. To commemorate the 50-year milestone, TAG Heuer is launching five new Monaco watches throughout the year that are inspired by the different decades from 1969 to 2019. The first of these models, inspired by the years 1969 to 1979, was unveiled at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May, while the second limited edition, celebrating the period from 1979 to 1989, was presented in June in Le Mans, France. The third edition of the new Monaco watch, inspired by the 1990s, also made its grand debut. The celebration seamlessly paved the way for the 2019 New York City E-Prix, a Formula E Championship race that took place on 13 and 14 July in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where Vergne raced through the streets of Brooklyn to defend his title. TAG Heuer, the Official Time Keeper and Founding Partner of the FIA Formula E Championship, has supported the series since its 2014 inception. Today, the company also proudly serves as the FIA Formula E Official Timing Sponsor and provides the Official Watch and Chronograph of the Championship.
Faster, more powerful and, more efficient than ever before, the eighth generation of the Porsche 911 has arrived in Kuwait. Revealed at a special event held by Porsche Centre Kuwait, Behbehani Motors Company, at the showroom, two variants, the rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera S and the all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4S, highlighted the design and performance evolution of the brand’s most iconic sports car. The rear-engine model range has been redesigned and now showcases a more muscular look that pays tribute to its past, while also embracing the future with technology woven into its DNA. Speaking during the launch event, Callum Bottomley, General Manager of Porsche Centre Kuwait, said: “Just like the first generation, the latest 911 is a sports car for the new era. Our icon has once again evolved and is now more powerful, more emotional, and more efficient than its predecessors. It is the best 911 Porsche has ever produced and this eighth generation maintains the 911’s status as a pure driver's car that also offers everyday usability and unique design. As such, I am delighted to announce that the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera 4S are now available here in Kuwait.” 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S deliver 450 hp The turbocharged flat-six engine of both models now produces 450 hp. This corresponds to an increase of 30 hp compared with the previous generation. The two 911 variants beat the four-second mark for acceleration from zero to 100 km/h: the rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera S needs 3.7 seconds and the 911 Carrera 4S, with allwheel drive, just 3.6 seconds. This makes both models 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. The optional Sport Chrono Package reduces the sprint by a further 0.2 seconds. Power in the new models is delivered by a newly developed eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission. Top speeds are now measured at 308 km/h for the 911 Carrera S and 306 km/h for the all-wheel drive version. The fuel consumption (NEDC-correlated) of the 911 Carrera S is 8.9 l/100 km, while the 911 Carrera 4S records this figure as 9.0 l/100 km. Porsche Design DNA The new 911’s silhouette remains iconic with an exterior design that draws on its earlier generations, making it familiar and yet undoubtedly new. This eighth incarnation is more assertive, with significantly wider wheel housings arch over the 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. The rear end is now the same width across all models, highlighting the slimline centre section. At the front, the body is 45 mm wider. Electrical pop-out handles in the doors emphasise the tapered and smooth side contour, while a bonnet with a pronounced recess evokes the design of the first 911 generations. At the rear, all models feature a rear significantly wider, variable-position rear spoiler and the seamless, elegant light strip. Apart from the front and rear sections, the entire outer shell is now made from aluminium.

At Rado, we are proud to launch our latest collection of full high-tech ceramic watches which pay tribute to a true legend of design. The True Thinline Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier celebrates the work of the pioneering and visionary architect in a truly unique collection. As the Master of Materials, we have used all the expertise we’ve gained during more than 30 years of working with high-tech ceramic to create watches in the nine Architectural Polychromy colours deemed to be both appealing and the most challenging to create consistently. Created in 1931 and 1959, Architectural Polychromy was ahead of its time, using 63 colours with architectural significance that help to create space and depth as well as having a profound physiological and psychological impact on the viewer. The colours are classified in nine groups of different shades and tones. The palettes are still used widely today by architects and designers – a testament to their enduring appeal and long-lasting relevance as well as Le Corbusier’s unrivalled status as a true visionary. Vibrant, velvety, balanced, bold, powerful, expressive, luminous, impressive and pure, the True Thinline Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier watches are produced in limited editions of 999 pieces per colour. Each has a special case back design which includes all 63 colours. As ever at Rado, each piece is durable, scratch-resistant, light and comfortable to wear thanks to the full high-tech ceramic construction and our pioneering monobloc case construction. As the exclusive watch partner of Les CouleursTM Le Corbusier, only Rado is able to make these exact colours and we are proud to produce them in our signature high-tech ceramic. Often considered the ultimate Rado because of its breakthrough design, the True Thinline is the perfect watch to showcase our ability to create bold and dynamic colour and to pay tribute to Le Corbusier, who helped shape and define the modern world as we see it – in glorious technicolour.
Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya Unveils its First Stand-Alone Restaurant, Riviera by Four Seasons
The elegant Mediterranean-inspired restaurant will bring together the sophisticated and intuitive service for which Four Seasons is world famous with fresh ingredients and flavours from around that region under the eye of Sicilian Sebastiano Spriveri, Executive Chef at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. Riviera has been designed by Shanghai-based Kokai Studios – which has already worked with Four Seasons on highly-successful projects in Kuwait and Japan – to be both intimate and convivial. “The opening of Riviera demonstrates a commitment to expanding our presence in the Kuwait market,” comments Didier Jardin, General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “We are continuously striving to raise the bar, which we do through our personalised and attentive service. Our culinary team’s creativity and hospitality have contributed to our well-deserved reputation as trendsetters.” The restaurant is set in The Gardens, a brand-new area of The Avenues, the stateof-the-art mall that is unrivalled in Kuwait and the Middle East. It is positioned away from crowds, a welcome pause in the day, creating a new sense of community where diners can catch up with friends, enjoy a casual business lunch, hear about the day’s events with family or simply take time out before or after shopping. Guests will be welcomed with a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and an atmosphere that evokes the glamorous heydays of Beirut, Cannes and Capri. Filippo Gabbiani, owner of Kokai Studios, acknowledges that the idea for Riviera has partly been driven by Dai Forni restaurant at Four Seasons Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “Dai Forni has been hugely successful,” he remarks. “We wanted to create something smaller and more casual in The Avenues, but retaining all the excellence of the original.” Diners will embark on a culinary journey around the Mediterranean, with dishes from Morocco to Greece, Spain to Lebanon, France to Tunisia. The curved walnut bar at Riviera is reminiscent of the sleek hulls of the motorboats that cruise along the shores of the south of France. When it’s time to eat, light and healthy choices such as marinated tomato with artisanal fior di latte mozzarella, olives and basil pesto or garden leaves with honey mustard dressing and parmesan crackling will be offered. Delicious pizzas will capture the essence of Italy. Corn-fed chicken tajine with preserved lemon, green olives and spiced couscous, risotto with seasonal mushrooms and parsley drizzle or traditional Valencian paella will satiate heartier appetites. Afterwards, tiramisu, dark chocolate eclairs and a range of ice cream flavours and sorbets will delight those with a sweet tooth. “I love bringing people and cultures together through food,” says Sebastiano Spriveri. “All of us here are very excited to launch Riviera, which will bring a new dining experience to a completely different level and add a dash of Mediterranean spirit to eating out in Kuwait.
The Longines Heritage Military – Kuwait Limited Edition
Longines is delighted to dedicate a special watch to its customers in Kuwait. The Longines Heritage Military – Kuwait Limited Edition stands true to the country with the placement of numerals in Arabic language and green on the dial. Numbered and limited to 100 pieces, this exclusive watch is the only one in Longines’ current collections with a case made of bronze and titanium. Longines presents a bronze version of The Longines Heritage Military, especially designed for Kuwait. Inspired by a military model from the 1940’s, The Longines Heritage Military – Kuwait Limited Edition is numbered and limited to 100 pieces. With its sober design and its diameter of 44 mm, this exclusive watch perfectly mirrors the refined aesthetics and spirit of the original timepiece. The Longines Heritage Military – Kuwait Limited Edition is the only piece in Longines’ current collections with a case made of bronze. Thanks to its characteristic colour, this multi-faceted metal gives the watch a warm and unique style. Dynamic material, its surface oxidises and forms a natural patina depending on how the watch is worn, making each piece unlike any other. Fitted with the L615 automatic movement, this limited edition timepiece displays a grained dial of dark green, slightly graduated to set off its painted numerals in Arabic language with their SuperLuminova® coating. The Longines Heritage Military – Kuwait Limited Edition features a smooth bezel and box-form sapphire crystal, emphasizing the military style of the watch. This special watch dedicated to Kuwait comes with two leather straps, one green and one brown; both versions fasten with a brushed stainless steel buckle.

HARKLINIKKEN
THE SPECIALISED HAIR REGROWTH CLINIC Harklinikken is a specialised Hair Regrowth Clinic that was founded 26 years ago in Denmark, just around the corner from Copenhagen’s Royal Palace. In 1994, Lars Skjoth, Founder and Head Scientist, made a revolutionary discovery that enables the successful treatment of androgenetic hair loss in both women and men. Since then, Harklinikken’s proven results and reputation for treating hair loss effectively and affordably has led to explosive client growth. The treatment has been credited for re-growing hair in over 100,000 clients worldwide. Amongst Harklinikken clients are international celebrities, royalty, A-list entertainers and business barons. Harklinikken is currently present in 27 locations across Denmark, Iceland, Germany, USA and Dubai, with over 160 employees globally. A research team of 20 scientists is based out of Tampa Bay, Florida. 14
JULY 2019
HARKLINIKKEN SERVICES Hair Regrowth Program The Harklinikken Hair Regrowth Program includes daily application of a customized Extract to the scalp and the use of specialized shampoos, conditioners, hydrating and styling products designed specifically for the treatment of thinning hair. Harklinikken products contain no artificial colour, perfume, silicone, sls/sles, petrochemicals, parabens or other known problematic preservatives. Extract – the cornerstone of Harklinikken's hair loss program – consists of derivatives from cow’s milk and natural occurring amino acid complexes, sterols, tannins and fatty acids from botanicals which have been combined in a 3-step fermentation process, proprietary to Harklinikken. Each Extract is individually tailored and continually adjusted throughout the program, to ensure you achieve the most optimal result. During the initial consultation, one of Harklinikken’s hair loss specialists will assess scalp, hair, and hair loss condition in order to determine candidacy. If candidacy is approved, the hair specialist will develop a customized program to address your specific needs. Macro photos of the thinning areas will be taken in order to capture the baseline and will be used to monitor progress throughout the program. Follow-ups with a hair specialist take place every 3-4 months to discuss the program, assess progress and to make tailored adjustments in order to optimize results. They will continue to offer personalized product recommendations and guidance to help maintain results. Most clients begin to notice a visible change in hair density in 4 months, but some may notice it as early as 2-3 months. Daily compliance is key to achieving and maintaining these results.
Hair Transplantation Harklinikken has developed unique hair transplantation techniques using the principles of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Hårklinikken’s highly sophisticated FUE techniques allow for each hair follicle (up to 7,000) to be removed from the donor site, and transplanted one by one with minimally invasive instruments. Skin heals very rapidly and results are seen after 6-8 months. Harklinikken has also developed the more specialised “LHFUE” procedure, or Long Hair Follicular Unit Extraction, where long hairs are extracted from the donor site and placed in between existing long hairs. This technique is very popular, as the client does not have to shave the hair off before the procedure. The unique type of hair transplantation Harklinikken offers is an option for clients not suitable for Extract treatment, whose cases are too far advanced.
FOLLYSIS In 2015, Harklinikken introduced ‘Follysis’, a proprietary state-of-the-art imaging system used to measure hair density. Harklinikken is the first hair loss facility to use this technology, which allows for closer monitoring of clients’ hair regrowth results over the course of treatment. Extract treatment has been proven to result in improvements in hair quantity and quality of between 30-95% for suitable candidates – www.cpmagazine.net

figures reflected by comparing initial hair density to continuous improvements throughout treatment. Follysis uses an advanced database with highly advanced imaging techniques to provide data for hair regrowth analysis. It can be used to baseline hair loss to date and measure change in hair quality & quantity over time by analyzing: lNumber of follicular units – how many hair follicles are active lHair density – number of hairs per square centimeter lHair quality – how much does each hair increase in diameter
This pioneering hair restoration measurement technique is set to change the future of hair loss treatment.
HAIR LOSS CATEGORIES Non Genetic Hair Loss This type of hair loss can be caused by stress, malnutrition, anaemia, scalp disorders, bad water quality, hair product chemicals, hair straighteners, hair extensions, hair pulling and more. Hårklinikken’s treatments have proved to be very efficient for this kind of hair loss.
Mild androgenetic alopecia (hair loss) This is the most common type of hair loss for men and women and is also known as hereditary hair loss. At this stage, the hair follicles are still active and we are able to reverse the hair loss process, improve the hair quality and stabilize the hair.
Severe androgenetic alopecia (hair loss) It is also known as hereditary hair loss. This category of hair loss is more common for men but also occurs with women, and typically, hair transplantation would be recommended, but only if the client is a good candidate for such.
Hair loss caused by health conditions and/or medication Clients suffering from a disease that is directly or indirectly causing hair loss are normally not good candidates for treatment and are often referred to another specialist outside the realm of Harklinikken.

DON’T RUN RISK OF DAMAGING YOUR VISION WITH POOR FOOD CHOICES
DOCTORS AT MOORFIELDS EYE HOSPITAL DUBAI WARN Dr. Luisa Sastre
F
rom managing our weight, fighting diseases, to giving us the energy we need to work or study each day, there are many well-known benefits to a healthy and balanced diet. Making the correct choices when it comes to what you eat each day can also play a significant role in keeping your eyes healthy and maintaining your vision throughout your lifetime. As well as treating a range of vision-related ailments each day, Doctors at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai explain to patients how their daily food choices can have a huge impact on their eyes. Dr. Luisa Sastre explains how a rich and varied diet filled with some of the most common foods found in most people’s kitchens are essential to the health of your eyes. “A healthy diet can play a significant role in preventing the development of diseases like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy,” says Dr. Sastre. “There is evidence that certain nutrients protect our body from damaging substances. These nutrients are called antioxidants and are found in many common and popular foods. They play a vital role in the health of the retina.” A diet rich in foods such as eggs, fish, fruit, nuts, citrus fruits, leafy greens, and, yes, even carrots, actively promotes healthy vision. Meat isn’t off the menu either, with beef, lamb, and turkey all beneficial thanks the amount of zinc they contain, which helps delay age-related sight loss. Dr. Sastre also recommends oysters, which contain essential zinc and copper, while dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and essential nutrients. “It’s easy to make the right dietary choices when it comes to looking after the health of your eyes,” says Dr. Sastre. “There are so many foods that have been proven to be beneficial that almost every kind of diet, personal taste and food choice is catered to.” “These foods can easily be incorporated into a person’s daily eating habits and are going to have a big impact on your overall health and that of your eyes.” For optimum health benefits, Dr. Sastre recommends eating five portions of fruits and very lightly cooked vegetables per day, as well as two servings of cold-water fish (salmon, sardines, herring) each week. “Make your plate as colourful as possible,” says Dr. Sastre. “Think of each meal as if you’re making a rainbow with lots of different types of fresh, natural and brightly coloured foods served together. “If you eat a healthy diet including at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, you should not need a supplement.” While eating correctly can play a significant role in maintaining the health of your eyes, it is equally important to avoid foods that can be harmful to your vision if consumed in large amounts over a period of time. These include sugary and salty items as well as foods high in saturated and trans fats. “Diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of vision loss among people with diabetes and the leading cause of vision impairment and blindness. If you are a diabetic, you should avoid sugar,” says Dr. Sastre.
“The same applies to salt. If you are hypertensive you should try to limit the amount of salt that you eat to no more than 2,300 milligrams (about one teaspoon of salt) a day. That includes all the salt you eat, whether it was added in cooking or at the table, or already present in food products.” If you suffer from high cholesterol, Dr. Sastre advises avoiding saturated fat (found in some meats, dairy products, baked goods, and deep-fried and processed foods) as well as trans fats (mostly in foods made with hydrogenated oils and fats, such as stick margarine, crackers, and french fries). “Instead of these bad fats, try healthier fats such as lean meat, nuts, and unsaturated oils like olive, and sunflower oils,” says Dr. Sastre. “The old saying ‘you are what you eat’ is profoundly true to this day. What we eat has a massive impact on our health and our entire system, and that especially means our eyes.” Dr. Sastre’s top 10 foods for healthy vision: Nuts and Seeds: Legumes contain healthy fats, vitamin E and copper, which are essential to maintaining the biochemical functions of the body and could play a role in maintaining a healthy retina. Fish: Many fish are rich in Omega 3 fatty acid. They have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect that helps your heart and brain stay healthy, as well as your retina. The recommendation is to eat at least two servings of cold-water fish per week. Salmon, sardines, and herring are top sources of Omega-3s; halibut and tuna are also good sources. Eggs: Eggs contain healthy fats, lutein and zeaxanthin, which are important nutrients. Lutein and zeaxanthin are antioxidants that act as natural sunblock for the macula (the central area of the retina), absorbing the damaging blue wavelengths of light. Colourful Foods: Such as oranges, sweet corn and peppers contain zeaxanthin. These foods need to be consumed in our diet as the human body does not produce these antioxidants naturally. They should be very lightly cooked because over-cooking them may destroy the pigments. Meats: Beef, turkey and lamb contain zinc, which promotes eye health and helps delay age-related sight loss. Oysters: Oysters contain essential zinc and copper. It is important to consume a good amount of zinc as a deficiency may lead to poor night vision. Leafy Greens: Leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach and lettuce are rich in lutein. Dark Chocolate: Contains less milk as well as sugar. It boasts high amounts of antioxidants and essential nutrients. Consuming dark chocolate promotes better overall health. Carrots: Carrots are rich in vitamin A and beta carotene. Vitamin A is important for healthy vision as it helps protect your retina. Deficiency in Vitamin A is a leading cause of blindness and can lead to eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Citrus Fruits: Fruits such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits contain high amounts of vitamin C which help fight age-related eye problems. www.cpmagazine.net

A DIFFERENT BALL GAME Gill Sherry
T
ry as I might, I just cannot seem to enjoy watching women’s football. Perhaps I’m just so used to the speed and strength of the men at the top level that the women’s game, by comparison, just looks so inferior. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for equality and female empowerment but footballers with ponytails? I thought I’d seen the last of those when David Seaman retired. Judging by the number of spectators at this year’s World Cup finals in France, not to mention the TV viewing figures, there are plenty of people who do enjoy watching the women’s game. There’s no denying the players are talented – and the men could certainly learn a thing or two from their on-pitch attitude - but that said, there’s still a massive gap in the quality of football played by the two genders. Yes, they can score goals. Yes, they can cross the ball. Yes, they can run, dribble and nutmeg when the opportunity arises, but the physicality will never allow the women’s game to match that of the men. The pace will always be slower and that in itself results in a totally different ball game. Add lipstick and mascara to the equation (a certain Dutch number 7 springs to mind) and it’s easy to see why some football fans just can’t take the women’s game seriously. Even those who promote women’s football have some reservations. It’s been suggested by Emma Hayes (manager of the Chelsea women’s team) that the size of the goal frame should be reduced in the women’s game. It’s a fair point. The height of the average female goalkeeper is much less than the average male. Perhaps the size of the actual playing surface should also be reduced. It’s something to consider, despite objections from both players and fans. Unsurprisingly, some female players are calling for equal pay, arguing that they deserve the same salaries as their male counterparts. It’s hard to agree when like it or not, the women’s game is still very much in the developmental stages and attracts nowhere near the same audience or sponsorship deals. Despite my misgivings, I did watch some of the World Cup games. It was whilst I was watching England take on the USA in the semi-final that I came

to a reluctant realization. My dislike of the women’s game had nothing to do with talent, strength or speed (or any apparent lack of it). I was jealous. What a revelation! Sadly, I had never been given the opportunity to play football. When I was at school, girls played netball, rounders and hockey. Boys played football, cricket and rugby. There was no crossover and there was no choice. By then, I was already a huge football fan and followed the men’s game with a passion. Women’s football was unheard of so any hope I may have had of playing was both unlikely and unrealistic. The few girls that did decide to kick a ball around after school were bullied or ridiculed. Thankfully, the opportunities afforded to girls and women today are so much better than they were for my generation. In sport alone, the roles available now differ vastly to the meagre choices on offer when I left school. There was no such thing as a female referee. You would never see a female in the Match of the Day studio and you certainly wouldn’t see a women’s football team on the TV. It’s no wonder I’m jealous! Any one of these roles (and plenty more besides) would’ve been right up my street. Only now have I come to realize that the reason I don’t enjoy watching women’s football is not because I don’t admire the women’s game. It’s not because I think they’re inferior or untalented. It’s because I resent the fact that these women are able to play the sport they love and get paid for it. In short, I wish it was me! Now I’ve come to this startling realization I shall, of course, continue to watch the women’s game. However, the fact still remains, in my opinion, that men’s football is more entertaining (the pure physical power involved will always ensure a faster, stronger game). So whilst I shall reserve my passionate support for my team in the English Premiership, I shall save a respectful admiration and healthy dose of envy for those playing the women’s game, ponytails and all. Whilst I’m on the subject, congratulations to the USA on their World Cup win. It was, I suspect, never in doubt.

TORA FLORA “Vegan food is delicious, beautiful and fun. You just have to know how to make it.
When it comes to food, Tora Flora knows the importance of being good to our bodies as well as our environment. With this in mind, plantbased food is definitely on the menu! www.cpmagazine.net
23
Please introduce yourself to our readers. I'm a Swedish food artist with a bachelor degree in gastronomy and a master degree in food and meal science. All my food creations are plant-based, i.e. vegan. I challenge the vegan cuisine by creating beautiful, tasty and entertaining dishes that cannot be called salads. This is to normalize and show that plant-based food is for all of us to enjoy. For me, food is art. I convey more than just good and sustainable meals. I give a unique and memorable experience which is created by science, art and a pinch of madness. I work globally as a consultant, where I perform adventurous pop-up dining experiences at hotels, resorts and restaurants. Also, I develop vegan menus for such establishments.
Tell us about your education. My education included a wide range of subjects: •Nutrition and health •Food science, including sensory, food chemistry and food microbiology •Food culture and communication •Concept and product development •Systems for self-control and application of HACCP (hazard analysis critical control points) •Food and meal science with perspectives: craftsmanship, science, sustainability and creativity •Food and meal science with perspective: gastronomy in everyday life •The Complexity of Food Choice: The Public Meal from a Consumer Perspective •Food, Overconsumption and Consumer Critique •Applied Statistics in the Health Sciences •Food for Many: Interdisciplinary Approach and Methodology •Optional specialisation through first or second cycle courses in Food and Meal Science theory As you can see, it’s more about the science behind food and meals.
What got you interested in molecular gastronomy and vegan food? With my background as a scientist, molecular gastronomy has become a way to create unique dining experiences. I want to give the guest an extraordinary food experience. And vegan food has always interested me. I was vegetarian already as a 10-year-old and my interest in plant-based food just developed over the years. I love to create food that is good for both our bodies and the environment.
What exactly is molecular gastronomy? If I could easily explain molecular gastronomy, it is when scientists and chefs create creative cooking with innovative ideas, to deliver an extraordinary experience. To clarify, science + cooking = experiences.
What is your philosophy about food? I want to show that vegan food is for everyone to enjoy. Vegan food is delicious, beautiful and fun. You just have to know how to make it. There is so much you can do with plants.
How important is food styling and why? For me, it’s number one. Food styling is my main love. It’s a big interest for me. I grew up in an artistic family and art has always been close to me. I love details and to give the extra touch in what I’m doing. I can see how happy people are when they get it.
How do you come up with a new recipe and how do you decide on its name? I get a lot of inspiration from nature. I love to walk around and let my mind be free; to analyze the nature, how the 24

flowers move etc. Then I develop a recipe, starting with the styling. I can sit for hours with the styling, it’s like mindfulness for me. Then I always analyze the outcome; how I find the dish will become the name of it. I never name the dishes before I’m done with them, it’s the outcome of the styling and my feeling that names it.
What are some of the services you offer to your clients? I offer hosted dining experiences and also develop vegan menus.
How did the Kuwait visit happen and when did you arrive? I contacted Otto, the GM of the Regency and explained my idea to him. He liked it and I arrived here the 11th of June.
How was your stay at the Kuwait Regency? What is your opinion about the hotel? I love it! Everyone is so friendly and the hotel itself is so beautiful. I felt like I was living in a castle.
How long did you stay in Kuwait and what was your schedule like? I stayed for 2 weeks. I started work in the morning until we were feeling okay for the day. Each day was different and I trained the chefs about the new menu.
Was it easy for you to source the ingredients in Kuwait? Did you face any challenges? I was surprised how easy it was to get the ingredients that I wanted. Everting was available.
Did you use any particular ingredient from Kuwait? If so, how did you use it? No, I did not need any particular ingredients from Kuwait.
What are some of the places you visited in Kuwait and which was your favourite? I visited The Avenues, Kuwait Towers and Souk Al-Mubarakiya. I really liked Souk Al-Mubarakiya, I really got the vibes of Kuwait there.
Which of your dishes was most popular in Kuwait? I believe it was Northern Light: Carrot and peanut patty served with toasted asparagus and leek, parsley marinated cucumber and green pea puree with truffle oil.
What are some of your hobbies? Even though it is my work, food is the main hobby for me. I love to try new food and explore new dishes. I also workout and hang out with my friends and family when I’m having a day off.
Which is your favourite travel destination and why? It’s so hard for me to say! I lived in Istanbul for 2 years and it’s my favourite city that I have visited. However, for me, it’s more like a home then a travel destination.
Where did you travel for collaborations? Sri Lanka, Maldives, Seychelles, Spain, Kuwait and Copenhagen.
What are your future plans? At the moment I love what I´m doing, but I might want to open my own restaurant in the future. It will be a crazy restaurant full of experiences.
Do you have a message for our readers? I hope to meet with you next time I’m visiting Kuwait. But before that, you can visit The Regency and taste some of my dishes that the chefs I have trained will cook for you.
Your message for us at CP Magazine? Thank you so much for having me. It is an honor for me to be part of your magazine. Much love and many thanks. www.cpmagazine.net

SPLENDOR OF SIGHT AND SOUND Where: W Dubai The Palm, United Arab Emirates
Located on the Palm Jumeirah, the largest man-made island in the world and one of Dubai’s most iconic attractions, W Dubai The Palm is set to infuse even more decadence into UAE’s booming, multicultural culinary landscape. The W Lounge (lobby) is a stage to see and be seen and celebrates the city’s well-known love of opulence with several geometric fixtures that mimic the raw, natural form of gold. An artistic interpretation of a traditional fire pit sits in the centre of the W Lounge, signifying the bonfires that Bedouin tribes would gather around during their desert travels years ago. All 350 guest rooms and suites offer uninterrupted views and dreamy amenities. Curved walls are intricately tiled to glisten like the lights and colours of the sea at various times of the day, bringing the shoreline into each room. Modern graffiti adorns the walls of every room, featuring lyrics in Arabic from an iconic song by Lebanese singer, Fairouz. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dxbtp-w-dubai-the-palm
THE SPIRIT OF THE 1920s RIVIERA Where: Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel, Monaco Open from March to October, the Monte-Carlo Beach blends French chic with Californian villa style and the extensive facilities of a resort hotel. Designed in the 1920s by the legendary architect Roger Seassal, this terracotta-coloured hotel received a vibrant facelift recently by Parisian interior designer India Mahdavi. With its obliquely located reception desk, the lobby area feels more like a private club than a hotel. There’s also a brand new terrace restaurant, named Elsa in tribute to a frequent guest, the notorious American ‘hostess with the mostest’ Elsa Maxwell. The ever-changing menu focuses on light lunch fare and Mediterranean classics for dinner. Even if you are not a hotel guest, the posh Beach Club is well worth the splurge for a day of sea, sand and sun, with old-fashioned tent cabanas, a huge seawater pool and a lively bar, the Sea Lounge, for cocktails after sunset and a friendly, festive atmosphere. With this modern yet iconic escape, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer offers guests a state-of-the-art destination in Monaco. https://www.montecarlosbm.com/en/hotel-monaco/monte-carlo-beach

Maison Micallef
An iconic work of art with perfume-seducing connoisseurs from all over the world.
34
JULY 2019
There is a one remarkable moment in the Perfume Micallef story which I discovered during my visit to Grasse, the world capital of perfumes. Maison Micallef was the first company to mix Oud oils with French formulations resulting in enormous success in 54 countries. As an example, we can discover the Secrets of Love collection, one of the unique perfumes of Delice and evocative of the bewitching mystery of Oud Wood. Not only does the perfume impress you, but the bottles are decorated with fine lines, assembled like little cages of love, luxuriously finished in colours of gold. Martine Micallef with her artist’s soul, instinctively developed her talents in designing, painting and sculpturing. Her consistency in creativity and her rich cultural heritage ensure the ever-growing success of the brand. Another eye-catching perfume collection is Ananda; refined fragrances with a touch of the unexpected, contained in delicate, softly shaped bottles, encrusted with Swarovski crystals. All of these bottles are a piece of art and handmade in Grasse. Maison Micallef Perfume has been in Saudi Arabia for 18 years with a presence in Paris Gallery, a remarkable shopping destination. Geoffrey Nejman opened his door to the world of perfumes in the mid 90s. Geoffrey has since been in charge of the Micallef scents creation. Together with Martine Micallef, he shares love and passion and manages the company working on the financial and structural growth. Martine Micallef has been surrounded by art since her childhood and now develops and designs the perfume bottles. In the Micallef world you even can find special collections for weddings and the bottles can be personalised with a name or a message. And for our Middle East readers, the message will be unique. Maison Micallef has two of its own boutiques, one in Grasse where perfume was born and established, and the second boutique of Micallef Perfume in Dubai.

CONNECTING EMOTIONS THROUGH UNFINISHED ILLUSTRATIONS
Á
lvar Alcalde is an interior designer and illustrator based in Palencia, northern Spain. His illustrations are the product of a strong and solid imagination. He could be considered a curious and tenacious person, who combines his training as interior designer and decorator with a rediscovered taste for drawing and a great interest in fashion. Inspired by Balenciaga, Dior, Margiela, McQueen or Galliano, his pieces combine sketched parts with others full of details and colour as if it were an unfinished work, leaving the viewer with the task of imagining the perfect end for each drawing. And yet the visual impact, the beauty, the line games and the finishes make clean and powerful strokes in complete works of art. After studying art and interior design, at the age of 20, Álvar set-up his own design and décor studio which is still running succesfully. ‘Fashion is personality, fashion is another way of art. I enjoy fashion, I am inspired by fashion, at the end I try to be part of the fashion industry in my own way. Drawing is a way to transport me to that magical world,’ Álvar Alcade says.

KUWAITIS BOOST TOURIST TRAFFIC INTO TURKEY 12.92% more Kuwaiti nationals travelled to Turkey in the first third of this year; 107 flights leave Kuwait for Turkish cities each week
K
uwaiti nationals continue to travel to Turkish cities in rising numbers. As per latest figures released by the Turkish Cultural and Tourism Office in Dubai, 91,098 Kuwaitis have visited multiple destinations across Turkey within the first four months of the year, representing a 12.92% increase when compared to the same period last year. 24,577 Kuwaiti nationals travelled to Turkey in April alone. As of now a total of 107 flights depart from Kuwait for several destinations across Turkey each week. “We are delighted to see Turkey climb to one of the most popular tourist destinations for Kuwaiti as well as other Gulf nationals. Visitors from neighbouring nations have always played a significant role in driving economic growth within Turkey by boosting its tourism sector,” commented Salih Ozer, Attaché of Culture and Information, Turkey to the UAE. Over 8,735,200 tourists from around the world flew into Turkey in April, representing a 24% increase in comparison to April last year. The largest influx of tourists into Turkey in the first four months of 2019 has been from Germany at just over 803,480 44

visitors, followed by Bulgaria and Russia. Of the GCC nations, the highest numbers of tourists to travel to Turkey have been from Kuwait, followed by Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. Turkey’s Mediterranean province of Antalya also recently broke its record for the number of tourists arriving by air on a single day — 85,205 visitors flew into the city on June 8, 2019. Inbound tourist traffic per month also rose by 17% in June with 570,422 visitors to the city. So far, 3,870,211 tourists have visited Antalya this year with an 18% increase when compared to the same period last year. The attaché added, “Turkey has a lot to offer tourists, from an adventurous holiday at the shores of the Black Sea to a relaxing vacation on Mediterranean beaches, from historic sites to iconic attractions, to plenty of exclusive shopping. The country’s proximity coupled with relaxed visa formalities makes it the perfect destination for our Arab neighbours. The outlook for the tourism sector is indeed quite positive, and we are hoping to hit record-breaking highs throughout the year.”

VHERNIER’S CALLA COLLECTION: SOFT, ESSENTIAL, CHIC
T
he Calla is Vhernier’s absolute icon, representing the result of an exquisitely intellectual research process. Angela Camurati, one of the founders of the Italian jewellery company, recalls that everything was born from a will to create something unique, with a sign of a strong identity that uses the same shape to compose different pieces, from necklaces to earrings and pendants to bracelets. After an extended research period, a simple, archetypical shape was retained; a pure abstraction containing the DNA of a brand that forms its roots in sculpture and contemporary art. “Volume, femininity and lightness are the characteristics of all VHERNIER jewels and are clearly evident in the Calla design” - says Carlo Traglio, President of the brand - “femininity always translates into soft and smooth shapes that, despite the magnitude of the surfaces, are nevertheless minimalistic and understated.” To avoid breaking the sequence of links, the necklace was designed with a seamless integrated clasp, that works just like a screw and is located inside one of the links. The use of invisible closures is a trait of Vhernier that the brand’s craftsmen invented which is a seemingly simple yet complex mechanism to achieve this result. Calla also owes its extraordinary success to the choice of materials such as ebony, a precious wood, shaped by the same excellent artisans who cut and work on precious stones. Combined with Vhernier’s elegant rose gold, the intense color of the ebony produces a fascinating visual shock. For this reason, the Calla has always represented a true turning point in the jewellery world: its choice of very unusual materials, showcasing their absolute beauty with a very high-caliber craftsmanship, renders these unique materials utterly precious themselves. A nonconformist choice, almost scandalous in fact, and precisely for this reason, totally in sync with the Vhernier style. Carlo Traglio confirms this: “The gold and ebony version is undoubtedly the most beloved one, and for us it represents perfection: it’s light, seductive, and contemporary. And above all, it’s beautiful to touch.” After working with ebony, experimentation continued and went beyond: The Calla is the jewel for which VHERNIER has played the most with materials, colors, and dimensions.

WILDER GIRLS by Rory Power

First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.

BECOMING SUPERMAN: A WRITER'S JOURNEY FROM POVERTY TO HOLLYWOOD WITH STOPS ALONG THE WAY AT MURDER, MADNESS, MAYHEM, MOVIE STARS, CULTS, SLUMS, SOCIOPATHS, AND WAR CRIMES by J. Michael Straczynski
In this dazzling memoir, the acclaimed writer behind Babylon 5, Sense8, Clint Eastwood's Changeling and Marvel's Thor reveals how the power of creativity and imagination enabled him to overcome the horrors of his youth and a dysfunctional family haunted by madness, murder and a terrible secret. For four decades, J. Michael Straczynski has been one of the most successful writers in Hollywood, one of the few to forge multiple careers in movies, television and comics. Yet there's one story he's never told before: his own.
HUNGRY: EATING, ROAD-TRIPPING, AND RISKING IT ALL WITH THE GREATEST CHEF IN THE WORLD by Jeff Gordinier
SEMICOLON: THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF A MISUNDERSTOOD MARK by Cecelia Watson
Hungry is a book about not only the hunger for food, but for risk, for reinvention, for creative breakthroughs, and for connection. Feeling stuck in his work and home life, writer Jeff Gordinier happened into a fateful meeting with Danish chef Ren Redzepi, whose restaurant, Noma, has been called the best in the world. A restless perfectionist, Redzepi was at the top of his game but was looking to tear it all down, to shutter his restaurant and set out for new places, flavors, and recipes. This is the story of the subsequent four years of globe-trotting culinary adventure, with Gordinier joining Redzepi as his Sancho Panza. In the jungle of the Yucatpeninsula, Redzepi and his comrades go off-road in search of the perfect taco. In Sydney, they forage for sea rocket and sandpaper figs in suburban parks and on surf-lashed beaches.
In Semicolon, Cecelia Watson charts the rise and fall of this infamous punctuation mark, which for years was the trendiest one in the world of letters. But in the nineteenth century, as grammar books became all the rage, the rules of how we use language became both stricter and more confusing, with the semicolon a prime victim. Taking us on a breezy journey through a range of examples—from Milton’s manuscripts to Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letters from Birmingham Jail” to Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep—Watson reveals how traditional grammar rules make us less successful at communicating with each other than we’d think. Even the most die-hard grammar fanatics would be better served by tossing the rule books and learning a better way to engage with language.
TEN YEARS A NOMAD: A TRAVELER'S JOURNEY HOME
by Matthew Kepnes New York Times bestselling author of How to Travel the World on $50 a Day, Matthew Kepnes knows what it feels like to get the travel bug. After meeting some travelers on a trip to Thailand in 2005, he realized that living life meant more than simply meeting society's traditional milestones, such as buying a car, paying a mortgage, and moving up the career ladder. Inspired by them, he set off for a year-long trip around the world before he started his career. He finally came home after ten years. Over 500,000 miles, 1,000 hostels, and 90 different countries later, Matt has compiled his favorite stories, experiences, and insights into this travel manifesto. Filled with the color and perspective that only hindsight and self-reflection can offer, these stories get to the real questions at the heart of wanderlust. Travel questions that transcend the basic "how-to," and plumb the depths of what drives us to travel — and what extended travel around the world can teach us about life, ourselves, and our place in the world.
How to Hack a Heartbreak by Kristin Rockaway By day, Mel Strickland is an underemployed helpdesk tech at a startup incubator, Hatch, where she helps entitled brogrammers—"Hatchlings"—who can't even fix their own laptops, but are apparently the next wave of startup geniuses. And by night, she goes on bad dates with misbehaving dudes she's matched with on the ubiquitous dating app, Fluttr. But after one jerk too many, Mel has had it. Using her brilliant coding skills, she designs an app of her own, one that allows users to log harrassers and abusers in online dating space. It's called JerkAlert, and it goes viral overnight. Mel is suddenly in way over her head. Worse still, her almost-boyfriend, the dreamy Alex Hernandez—the only non-douchey guy at Hatch—has no idea she's the brains behind the app. Soon, Mel is faced with a terrible choice: one that could destroy her career, love life, and friendships, or change her life forever.

Kristin Rockaway is a native New Yorker and recovering corporate software engineer. After working in the IT industry for far too many years, she finally traded the city for the surf and chased her dreams out to Southern California, where she spends her days happily writing stories instead of code. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, browsing the aisles of her neighborhood bookstores, and planning her next big vacation. www.cpmagazine.net

WRITING MOVIE
WRONGS moviewrongs.com by: JIM WEST
Directed by Simon Kinberg | Written by Simon Kinberg
M
ore often than not, a great epic storyline from a comic book never seems to live up to the hype on the big screen, and this is such a case. Since the first X-Men movie back in 2000, filmmakers have tried in vain to deliver a Dark Phoenix storyline, but as the train wreck of a film that was 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand proved, this is not an easy feat. Here we have a successful writer from films like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes trying his hand at a screenplay that falls flat again and again. Dark Phoenix should be treated as a trilogy. I feel that is what fans want but perhaps will never get. This film could have benefited from a second writer to infuse more emotion into the storyline.
Here come the spoilers.
Opening scenes shows us a young Jean Grey in a car with her parents. When her powers get out of hand, an accident occurs which kills her mother. She ends up with Professor Xavier at his school for the gifted and he blocks out memories of the crash to protect her. Fast forward to current day and an emergency situation with the space station causes the President to call Xavier (James McAvoy) to enlist the help of the X-Men. They arrive in space and start their extraction of the astronauts but an unusual space storm ends up surrounding Jean (Sophie Turner) and then disappears inside her. Jean is taken back to the mansion and examined but nothing serious is found to be wrong other than her powers are off the charts. Jean soon grows scared of her powers and leaves the school to find her father who she discovered didn’t die in the car accident. This film moves at such a quick pace that it doesn’t really take the time needed to show the struggle within Jean. The relationship between her and Scott (Tye Sheridan) was rushed and you don’t feel a real connection 60
JULY 2019
between the two. Again, a downside of having to rush a trilogy story into a single film. A shape shifting alien group called the D’Bari have been tracking this dark force that is now inside Jean. They seek to harness its power to take over a planet as their new home. This was a rather boring element of the story. I felt the theme of government versus the mutants would be a far better angle to tackle. Show that the world loves the X-Men but then have their opinion reversed to show just how fickle people can be. In this day of public shaming, social media causes, etc., it would have been better to insert into this film the idea that you can be a hero one day and a villain the next. It could’ve been brought up when Jean visits Magento (Michael Fassbender) at his island refuge for mutants where they have shunned technology and given up on the outside world. The mutants under his protection are done with the world at large and just trying to survive in peace. This was a worthwhile theme that should have been explored more with opposing views between Xavier and Magento. Alas, the film is rushed, the story has no time to breathe, and we arrive at the ending that is quite frankly sad, particularly when you look back at how wonderfully they set up X-Men First Class and X-Men Days of Future Past to deliver epic storylines. The studio should take notes from Marvel on how they split up Avenger’s Infinity War and Avenger’s Endgame. That allowed enough time to tell the story and let characters connect emotionally to its viewers. Without viewers being connected to the characters, their deaths don’t have impact and therefore the story is not memorable or worthwhile. Thanks for reading ‘Writing Movie ‘WRONGS’.

Furthering Disney's domination, Jon Favreau's The Lion King opened to a record-breaking $185 million at the North American box office for an early global total of $531 million. The movie scored the biggest domestic launch ever for a PG film, and the ninth biggest for any movie, not to mention notching a record for a Disney release outside of Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, not adjusted for inflation. It also bested the final Harry Potter pic (169.2 million) to land the top start for a July title. Employing groundbreaking photorealistic CG and featuring a star-studded voice cast, The Lion King is another win for Disney's aggressive campaign to reimagine its animated classics, and a career-best start for Jon Favreau, who also directed Disney's The Jungle Book remake. The box office needed a boost. As of Friday, 2019 revenue was running behind last year by 9 percent. Through Sunday (July 21), the gap was 7 percent.

Since its debut, the Maserati GranTurismo has been a car that knows how to turn heads. A statement car if you like, it’s a great vehicle of choice for those who like to stand out from the crowd. Having been through several revisions, we had the pleasure of taking the updated GranTurismo Sport out for a spin. The Italian sports tourer still knows how to roar into life and definitely made us feel like a million dollars as we took to the roads of Kuwait. Joined by Hamad, our Head of Photography, and Shumokh, from our fashion department, we took the GranTurismo Sport to the Gulf Road for some motoring fun and stunning shots. 64

Stunning profile and head-turning exterior There’s something undeniably seductive about the colour red, and we were in love the very second we laid our eyes on the stunning ride. It’s hard not to want to run your hands all over the sleek surface and Shumokh certainly loved posing next to such a glorious motor! The redesigned front bumper, air vents, and grill not only look sharper but they also reduce the amount of drag as you drive. With a more defined front, I felt like this is definitely a car that means business! GranTurismo aficionados will also notice that the headlights have been changed from previous models. The gorgeous car simply exudes charisma and class, and the distinctive trident logo screams exclusive luxury. We couldn’t wait to discover the revamped insides and take it out for a spin.

Lavish interiors with convenient features Opening the door we took a moment to feast our eyes on all the splendour that the famous Italian car manufacturer is known for … a luxurious leather dash, complete with beautiful stitching. Headrests embossed with the exclusive Maserati logo. Sumptuous leather seating in the front and rear. Timeless elegance. Pure perfection. The typical Maserati clock has a cool smaller second dial and the usual blue and aluminium details, further reminding you of the car’s exclusivity and class. After appreciating that the GranTurismo Sport is as beautiful and sophisticated on the inside as it is on the outside, it was time to slide into the inviting seats and discover more … We were impressed with the amount of leg room in the front. There may not be so much room in the rear, but it’s still spacious enough for younger members of the family. The front seats effortlessly glide to allow access to the back seats then slide back into place with minimal effort. Each seat has its own individual air-conditioning vent and cup holder and we all agreed that the front and rear 68

USB points are a welcome modern addition. When it comes to the tech stuff, we especially love the user-friendly eight-plus inch interface, a huge improvement on previous models. While there’s a control wheel next to the transmission stick, the touchscreen controls make navigating your way through the menu seamless. You’ll find both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and, as with all Maserati models, the GranTurismo Sport boasts a state-of-the-art booming 10-speaker Harman / Kardon audio system. We effortlessly connected a phone to listen to a perfect playlist for cruising the roads in a motoring marvel, getting fully into the test-drive spirit and building the anticipation of a drive in such a luxurious vehicle. Although we debated whether they were entirely necessary, there are buttons for adjusting the climate control on the front panel and volume controls on the rear of the easy-to-grip steering wheel. At least all preferences are accounted for and careful thought has gone into the car’s features and comfort levels.
A thrilling drive When it comes to the details, the car is rear-wheel drive and has a ZF six-speed automatic gearbox (a change from the hybrid half-auto, half-manual gearboxes in previous models). After sliding the key into the ignition—yes, that’s right, there’s no start button—we were excited to hear the car spring to life. Push the sport button and rev the engine to really hear the car roar like the magnificent beast that it is. Want a quieter ride? Switch back into normal mode. We had fun alternating between the driving modes and really playing with the GranTurismo Sport to assess its awesome capabilities.

With a 4.7-litre V-8 engine that produces an impressive 454 horsepower, the GranTurismo Sport can leap from zero to 60mph in under five seconds, all while making a sound you’ll want to hear over and over again. Although we didn’t push the car as hard as we could have done (we didn’t want to fall foul of the law!), Maserati says that it can reach a maximum speed of 185mph. Exhilaratingly, the speedometer rapidly increased with minimal pressure on the accelerator. Conveniently, there’s both a traditional needle gauge and a computer display, both excitingly showing how fast you are travelling. The power delivery is smooth, with little kick back as you sail along the roads. With music filling the air through the ten speakers complementing the alternating roar and purr of the engine, we took the GranTurismo Sport on a long drive to the Al Kout Mall

The excellent climate control worked well in Kuwait’s heat, keeping us all fresh and comfortable … despite the inner electricity generated from our intense ride! You’ll definitely have no problems feeling cool, in all senses of the word, when you slip behind the wheel of the GranTurismo Sport. It’s pleasantly easy to drive, with great balance, great manoeuvrability, and a smooth power delivery. There’s a safe understeer, which is ideal when cruising Kuwait’s roads, and the car is incredibly easy to manage even on twists and turns. You might need to brake harder than other sports cars, but it’s quick and easy to get used to. We also found the steering a little on the heavy side, but nothing that could make us fall out of love. To really make the most of the experience (and, because we just couldn’t bear to say goodbye too soon!), we went out in the Gran Turismo Sport again during the evening. The interiors are well lit to make driving in the dark safe and convenient, and the headlights provide ample lighting on the roads. No worries at all about not seeing curves and bumps till the last minute. We noticed a few curious glances as we zoomed along and couldn’t help but feel slightly smug at riding in such a marvellous car. It would definitely be the perfect car to arrive at a special event for maximum impact and a grand entrance. 72
JULY 2019
With the right balance between feeling safe and in control with bursts of adrenaline and excitement, this is a car that really makes you feel free on the open road.
A family-friendly luxury car With four full seats, the GranTurismo Sport truly is a grand tourer. While two adults might find the rear to be a bit of a squeeze, it’s perfectly proportioned for two children. Pop the armrest down to give each child their own space and strap baby seats in securely thanks to the incorporated anchor points. The boot is on the small side, but should still be able to fit in everything you need for a day out. In our opinion, it would make an excellent everyday car as well as being a statement vehicle that catches eyes and makes heads turn.

The upgraded interiors and streamlined attractive form cannot help but impress. The GranTurismo Sport still has the same wow factor we’ve come to expect from the luxury Italian brand.
