About the Cover COVER DESIGN BY GAD CASTRO

The College of Advertising Practitioners has been adaptive to the changing space of the internet. As COVID-19 took the world by storm, COAP managed to rise to the challenge of improving and helping the Advertising Community through an online mode of learning. With that, the cover is the resemblance of the solid new found strength of the whole COAP community despite being away together. It also embodies our willingness to build connections, guided by our faith and trust in God, and symbolizes our passion and ambitions to become better– that if we stand as one and walk along the path of our dreams, we will excel and make it a reality, where we share our success to God’s greatest glory. Together, we rise. Together, we fight. Together, COAP is stronger.

e would like to first and foremost thank, our beloved Council of Advertising Practitioners teacher advisers Mr. Jeanil Sajo and Mr. Jenmark Calumba, for being our number one supporters in the endeavors that we aim for. With their uttermost kindness and knowledge, thus, COAP has made it this far. To the past officers of COAP in the school year 2020-2021 for lending us the guidance and knowledge; for the majority were inexperienced about the operations of a student council and they lended a gentle hand. To the College of Business and Accountancy Student Provincial Council, for their never ending support for our organization and the outpour of kindness. And lastly, to the SDP council spearheaded by Mrs. Margen A. Java and CPU Republic, for giving us the opportunity to showcase what the Council of Advertising Practitioners’ potential can be and for giving us guidance and insight. We will continue to evolve and become the best versions of ourselves. To God be the Glory!

Message of the President ARKISHA MARIE QUISUMBING COAP PRESIDENT 2021-2022

I

t has been a very challenging two years for the whole world. When the Covid-19 Pandemic hit in late 2019, a lot of people; including myself, were very uncertain about the future. A lot of adjustments had to be made, as face to face classes are not available to students such as us and it has limited a lot of things in our daily lives. In this school year 2021-2022, I am happy to say that all of us are healing and recovering from the pandemic. There have been several hurdles for everyone, such as the typhoon Odette last December 2021, that affected a large portion of the Visayas islands. However, we still stood up and carried on while helping our brothers and sisters in need. COAP’s mission this past year was to become a helping hand in times of need. Even though we are small in numbers, we are flexible and resilient people who let our creativity and kindness shine in the various activities that we have partnered with various organizations.

As president, it was an honor to be exposed to a lot of the knowledge that was given to me because of it. The connections, knowledge, and experience of being the president of our small organization is something I would never exchange for anything else. The position was a surprise for me, but even though I was entrusted with the responsibility, I have tried my best to handle our organization with the grace and respect that it deserves. I hope that this portfolio would be a clear message of love and light to you readers, of how the council and our members try our best to create the ideal scenarios in the most difficult situations. The future may be uncertain, but I know that the Council of Advertising Practitioners would continue on to let our creativity shine in even the darkest of times, glorifying God’s name in everything that we do and create.

here is a number of challenges the Council of Advertising Practitioners have encountered as an organization this school year 2021-2022, none of them we could not overcome and handle, but for the most challenging ones, there are two that come in mind: our members’ inactive and inconsistent participation and pursuing our original plans for the organization.

Don’t get us wrong, we were still grateful and glad for the time and effort our members gave to attend and participate. It was still a success in the end, however, we wished that it could have been better if everyone was there. As for the monthly movie nights, we have discontinued it for the same reason: only a small number of our members would attend and enjoy the movie. Although it is not mandatory for them to attend anyway, we had hoped Every time we have social occasions that through our small effort of bringing planned such as our acquaintance party everyone together at least once a month, and monthly movie nights (that was later that our connections would grow stronger discontinued) and partnerships for considering that we are, after all, chasing webinars and online events, it was, our dreams in the same career field, hence admittedly, difficult to ask and monitor why we are enrolled in BS Advertising. our members' participation virtually. During our virtual acquaintance party, It was just as difficult, if not more, to ask only half of our members attended, our members to register, attend, and which was stressful as the event participate in webinars and online events planned was for the benefit of our held by our partner organizations. freshmen to get to know their seniors The core officers including me sometimes and what it’s like to be part of the wished that we can confidently accept a organization. It was also a little bit gold partnership, but considering our small unfortunate for the officers who stayed population of thirty-six (36) and the up late at night to thoroughly plan and schedule of each and every member, we execute the event, only for half of our unfortunately have to settle with only a members to appreciate and enjoy. bronze partnershipCOAP PORTFOLIO 2022

which is still a great opportunity for us to show our willingness to support and cooperate with other organizations, but just like I said, we wished we could do more. Nevertheless, we powered through these challenges and still met the expectations and required attendees for our partnerships, all thanks to the efforts of our core officers and members of the council. As for our failure to pursue our original plans for the organization, the plans that we meant were our supposed Christmas party in December and Valentine special in February. However, due to Typhoon Odette in December, we decided to cancel the Christmas party in respect to not only our members but for the victims who lost their families and home to the typhoon. Instead, we cooperated with the College of Business and Accountancy Provincial Council in helping students who were stranded. We asked our members in our Messenger group chat if they needed any help or assistance from us and fortunately, all of them were okay. Some of our members only had problems with the electricity being out and signal for their mobile phones. As for the supposed Valentine special in February, due to time constraints and the differences in schedule of the members, we canceled it and decided to partner with Koalisyon with their Koa Jam 2.0: Gabi ng Tula at Musika by supporting and attending their event which they broadcasted via Facebook Live. We received a certificate of appreciation from said event. Despite all of these strenuous activities, we put all of our faith

in our Almighty Father in order to push through with all our best efforts and hard work to continually make our name be known amongst all other organizations and fraternities of our university– that despite our small population, we are willing to open our hands to support, cooperate, and partner with others for meaningful campaigns and informational webinars. We have accomplished the theme CPU Student Organizations: EXCEL for God’s Greatest Glory through our trust that the Lord will help and guide us in the right path of student leadership and service for the members of our council. Through our struggles and hard work, we never yield to the temptation of giving up, instead we looked for inspiration and motivation in God’s holy word, and continued to improve our initiative, management, and authority in the council, influence important and worthwhile movements to the members, and exercise our creativity to promote effective communication as advertising practitioners. We believe that through all of our honest and hard work, immense passion, and ambitions, we excelled because we did it all for God’s greatest glory, and we owe all of our organizations’ and individual success to His gracious name– and all thanks to Him, we are able to proudly say that the Council of Advertising Practitioners will continue on serving and represent the students of Advertising, to confidently showcase through our portfolio our achievements and accomplishments, and to optimistically hope that the future of our organization is far from a dimming light… We will shine brighter, bolder, and better.

COAP PORTFOLIO 2022

ot many people truly know what the advertising course is all about, let alone the industry itself. And yet, many would still argue that advertising is the backbone of how a brand or a business can grow both within and outside itself. The advertising industry is all about creating, nurturing, and building a brand. It gives a vast audience the awareness, knowledge, and understanding of a brand’s or business’ existence, identity, and image. Advertising is not just about promoting a certain product or service, it is a form of science and art in bridging a communication between a brand and its target audience. There is a wide range of work you can do if you choose to make advertising your career– you can be a copywriter, art director, event planner, researcher, producer, director, videographer in Advertising. Cinematographer, photographer, editor, filmmaker, graphic designer, social media manager, marketing manager, SEO manager, digital marketing analyst, and many more.

Advertising is not just about promoting a certain product or service, it is a form of science and art in bridging a communication between a brand and its target audience. 10

With an advertising degree, you are given the flexibility and fluidity in choosing your job, for your skills and talent are honed, developed, and improved in the BS Advertising course of the College of Business and Accountancy in CPU. Although many would argue that advertising is simply a marketing tactic to bring attention to the business in order to get the money in, professional advertising practitioners will tell you that our work is more meaningful than that. Our primary purpose is to get a point or message across to the audience in the most creative, effective, and impactful way that will influence, persuade, and inspire them to do a certain action for a good cause, campaign, or promotion. As students of BS Advertising, we are passionate about not only our course, but more so of the work we produce either as individuals or as a team. So, as you continue to read our portfolio, we hope that it will inspire you to consider joining us in our journey to create meaningful campaigns and work by enrolling in Bachelor of Science in Advertising.

he Council of Advertising Practitioners is one of the smallest academic organizations in Central Philippine University in population. For this academic year 2021-2022, there are only a total of thirty-six (36) students enrolled in BS Advertising and eleven (11) of which are officers of the council.

COAP PORTFOLIO 2022

The core officers which compose of the President, Vice President for Internal Affairs, Vice President for External Affairs, and the Secretary, are the ones who mainly operate the entire council. They are the ones responsible for planning and executing organizational activities, representing the entire council and organization, and upholding the vision and mission set forth by the founders of the organization. They function as a single unit– the Secretary schedules, documents, and sometimes takes charge of their meetings, she plans and sets the outline of their events, notes important dates and topics to be discussed by the core, disseminates information through groups chats, and represents and speaks for the core when the President is absent; the Vice President for External Affairs is in charge of reaching out for sponsorships, partnerships, and trainings, they are also the ones who make decisions on behalf of the President in regards to external affairs of the council and organization; the Vice President for Internal Affairs is in charge of keeping the officers and organization members in check and informed, she is also the one who makes decisions on behalf of the President in regards to internal affairs of the council and organization; and, the President represents and speaks for the council and the organization, initiates and takes charge of the meetings, and she is the main planner of which direction to lead and guide the council and organization to and is the final decision-maker.

15

Despite the challenges, we will never yield to any pressuring obstacles. The officers will continue to rise and serve the members of COAP." The council, especially the core officers, often contact each other through their private group chat to keep track of their responsibilities and tasks such as attending and participating in event webinars for partnerships and online leadership training, planning virtual organizational events, and keeping the organization alive as it is sometimes difficult to handle and operate in an online environment. Nevertheless, the Council of Advertising Practitioners continues to thrive despite our small number. The officers never fail to do their best in serving the members of the organization and they carry on sustaining the good reputation of the council and organization.

STRONGER TOGETHER A Self-Evaluation

COAP PORTFOLIO 2022

The ignition of determination, perseverance and eagerness to continue the passion of leading the Bachelor of Science in Advertising community paved the way for the Council of Advertising Practitioners (COAP) to press on amid the adversity brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. HOW COAP FACE IT One of the trials that COAP faces year by year is its small community. With this, COAP is among the micro organizations at Central Philippine University (CPU). However, COAP proved that despite the lack of manpower, the community is overflowing with skills, talents, and efficiency in carrying out its role to the Advertising students and faculty. One of the best examples of this is how COAP managed to organize events like its Acquaintance party. Even though everyone was busy with their design projects in and out of the campus, the event was a success for the Advert community. This is a testament to the dedication of COAP to its people. No matter how far the Advertising students are from each other, COAP tries its best to fulfill its duty to bridge the gap between students due to the learning situation right now. The ongoing situation proves that unprecedented circumstances can be turned around and can be a key to unlocking new working conditions that can help the council members grow and hone their leadership skills individually and as a team. HOW COAP DOES IT As COVID-19 continuously hinders the workflow of the council, the online mode of learning provides an avenue to take a step back and rethink the definition of leadership, especially within COAP. Like all the councils right now, COAP utilized the opportunity of connecting online through various partnerships with other organizations for webinars and events. One of the notable partnerships of the organization is with ENACTUS CPU for the event "SIDLAK: Radiating Impact through Entrepreneurial Action." Furthermore, even though COAP hasn't organized many events this year, partnerships have given COAP the initiative to focus on cultivating a harmonious online collaborative relationship with other organizations. This kind of partnership helped COAP support causes that matter right now, which aim to help the community. To sum up, COAP rose to the challenges that came along our way. We admit that it is difficult, yet, the very essence of COAP helped us in lighting the torch of motivation to persevere and make things work. COAP realized a lot, especially in terms of working with each other; How are going to deliver what the whole community deserves?; In what ways can we help the Advert students?; How can we make an impact and be relevant this time? We believe that these questions and realizations brought us to what we are now— Stronger together. With the Advertising community in its back, COAP became a hub for growth not just in academics but also in life. COAP became a flourishing organization that fosters people who seek to lead, be themselves, and create a platform to represent the Advertising community. Therefore, COAP is more than ready to bring something new to the table and lead the Advert family to greater heights.

ANG AMON PAGBALIKID Our Overall Thoughts on COAP

75

COAP PORTFOLIO 2022

Our Overall Thoughts on the Organization Though our organization is small, the Council of Advertising Practitioners is definitely one of the underdogs in the College of Business and Accountancy academic organizations. We are always in the shadows, creating content that speaks to the people and are always honing our craft to attain achievements that our families and the school can be proud of. Through the hardship, blood, sweat, and tears, our organization has made it this far and I am very proud of our members. There have been difficult times within the organization, but we always stood our ground and carried on with whatever work we are faced with. We are resilient, critical thinkers that think on our feet and do everything in our power to be able to reach for the stars. You may say that we are dreamers, who work to create the dreams that we aim for a reality. I believe that the organization will continue to do so, in the next few years. Though we would not be the elected officers for the next school year, the Council believes that whoever will take the mantle will be able to live up to people’s expectations and will be up for the challenge; just as we were when we were elected to our respective positions. COAP will always evolve and improve more and more as the years pass by.
