LETTER FROM THE EDITOR With temperatures finally falling in Atlanta it is finally safe to say Happy Fall Y'all! September hit records high temperatures and memories for our family! We leapt into the month with our annual family trip to Chattanooga, Brennan turned 40 years old, we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary in the Bahamas and Lily sang twinkle twinkle little star all by herself. The days are flying by and before we know it the holidays will be here. I have vowed to slow down and try to be more present and appreciate every moment with my family and really pursue the things that bring me joy (more painting in my future). In addition to Lily turning 2 there are some exciting things happening next month that I can't wait to share but it will be a time to celebrate after a lot of hard work to make this dream come true! We have been working hard on Halloween costumes for the whole team and our families! We are sharing 11 DIY Halloween costumes this month which is more than we EVER have created in a season! This year we wanted the costumes to be spectacular but easy to make and comfortable! Most costumes are build on t-shirts, sweats or onesies! The costumes are important must most importantly it is about being comfortable and having fun! Happy 11 Halloween friends! Enjoy the little moments and celebrate everyday! Â October 2019

DIY BILLY BALL FLOWER Created by: Meghan Quinones Happiness is Creating Blogger/ CBG Contributor

MATERIALS 15/16 Styrofoam Balls Green Cloth Wire Floral Stems Wire Cutters Paint (DecoArt Traditions in Raw Siena and DecoArt Americana Golden Straw) DecoArt Stencil Paintbrush Toothpicks

CRAFTS "As the leaves start to slowly drop from the trees and the locusts can be heard, it can only mean one thing-- fall is on the way! Being from the Midwest, I love the change in seasons. Fall is one of my favorites. When cooler temps start to hit, I get excited about changing up my décor. I love adding flowers to my home, but like many, I’ m not the best at keeping them alive. During the summer months, I love having faux BillyBall flowers (the cute round yellow flowers) on display. I thought it would be fun to create a fall version of this flower to change up my décor. My DIY Fall Billy Ball Flowers are honestly the easiest project ever, and the end result looks very realistic. Check out the step by step tutorial to see how to transform Styrofoam balls into believable faux fall flowers!" - Meghan Quinones

CRAFTS

Step 1: Add yellow paint to a styrofoam foam ball. Make sure you get into all of the nooks and crannies. Step 2: Push a toothpick into one end of the ball and paint the bottom portion. Let dry. Step 3: Add brownish paint to the wire flower stem. Let the paint dry. Step 4: Push the floral wire into the bottom of the Styrofoam ball. Step 5: Use wire cutters to trim the stem down to your desired size.

Halloween Candy Apples HALLOWEEN CANDY APPLES

Directions:

HALLOWEEN 1. clean dryPapples. C Wash, AND Y and AP L E SInsert popsicle sticks and set aside.

2. In a medium pot, combine water, 1 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup light corn syrup and bring to a boil for 15-20 minutes. Use a candy thermometer. When candy gets up to 285 degrees take it off the heat. 3. Add 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon and green food color and stir well with a wooden spoon. 4. Dip the apple one at a time. Turn the apple and let the excess candy drip off. Lay the candy apple on a parchment paper. Let it harden and continue to dip the remaining apples. You will need to work fast because the candy will harden quickly. NOTE: When done dipping apples, add 2 cups of water back in the pot and bring to boil. This helps melt down the hard candy for easy clean up. Â 5. When candy apple hardens, you can continue decorating or eat it as is. You can decorate with melted chocolate, sprinkles or nuts to the candy apples or add Halloween spiders to the decoration makes it spooky and fun.

Practice your origami skills while creating the perfect monster bookmark just in time for Halloween. We love this easy project because, not only is it fun and functional, but because it encourages your little ones to spend more time reading their favorite books!

Step 1: Gather bright colored cardstock and other supplies to create your favorite classic monster! Step 2: First follow the folding instructions to create the “body” bookmark piece. Step 3: Next glue googly eyes to the front of the thicker, half-size side of the body. Step 4: Then cut out a square of red cardstock to stick inside of the body to create the mouth. Step 5: After cut the white paper to create fangs, and the black paper to make wings and hair. Step 6: Once you have your desired cut-outs, glue them to the body of your vampire bookmark to complete your project.

DIY WITCHES HAT

Created by:Meghan Quinones Happiness is Creating Blogger/ CBG Contributor

MATERIALS Styrofoam Cone Paper Fringe Garland Black Cardstock Purple Glitter Cardstock Silver Glitter Cardstock Hot Glue Gun and Glue - Scissors

CRAFTS

We have officially entered Halloween decoration mode and I’m super excited about it! If you’re like me and your décor is lacking some major witch game, this project is perfect. I’ve managed to collect an obscene amount of pumpkin decorations, but am seriously lacking in the traditional Halloween décor like bats, ghosts, and witches. -Meghan Quinones

CRAFTS

Step 1: Add glue to the end of the paper garland and place it on top of the cone. Begin wrapping it around the cone all the way to the bottom. Step 2: When you get to the bottom of the cone, cut the garland, add a dab of glue, and glue it to the bottom of the cone. Step 3: Cut a large circle that is 3 inches larger than the base of your cone, add glue to the bottom of the circle, and glue to the bottom of your cone. Step 4: Using a Cricut machine (or a paper punch, pencil, and scissors) to cut 15 1” circles, a thin 2.25” square out of silver glitter paper for a belt buckle, and 2 1.75” strips out of purple glitter paper. Step 5: Glue the two purple strips together and then glue the silver square on top so it’s covering the seam from the two purple strips. Step 6: Wrap the purple strip around the cone, trim the ends so they just overlap, and add glue to the back to secure. Step 7: Add glue to the purple circles and glue them all over the cone.

DIY WIRE PUMPKIN Created by:Meghan Quinones Happiness is Creating Blogger/ CBG Contributor

MATERIALS 2 Wire Hanging Baskets Floral Wire Wire Cutters Sheet Metal Cutters Spray Paint in Orange and Black Pencil Beacon Glass Metal Adhesive Raffia Small Branch

CRAFTS

Step 1: Place the two planters on top of each other. Cut a piece of wire 3” long and wrap it around to secure the planters. Add a few more wires to fully secure the baskets. Step 2: Spray paint the planters orange. Step 3: Use your pencil to draw a pumpkin face on the metal sheet. Then, use tin snips to cut it out. Step 5: Draw a circle on the metal sheet that is large enough to cover the hole at the top of the pumpkin and cut it out (this is where the stem will go). Step 6: Spray paint the face black and the circle orange. Step 7: Add glue to the metal pieces and add them to the front of wire pumpkin. Step 8: Add glue to the bottom of the branch and add it to the top of the pumpkin. Step 9: Cut a few pieces of raffia and tie around the stem to make a bow.

TRICK OR TREAT SAFETY TIPS

"As a parent of two toddlers, our family loves to dress up for Halloween. We truly love the costumes, the decorations, and especially the candy! As my kiddos started to become more mobile, we quickly realized we needed to take extra steps on how to keep our kids safe when Trick-orTreating in our neighborhood. Here are seven tips I suggest for being safe on Halloween."

1. Reflective Wear - Add reflective accents on your costume you can add some reflective fabric tape to add to the back of your costume, wagons, or stroller. Better yet, use Beacon’s Glow in the Dark Glue! It’s easy to apply! See what we did HERE on this skeleton costume. 2. The Wonderer - Some kids like to run around, especially in a busy neighborhood when you feel the excitement in the air. If they stray too far from you, to prevent them from getting lost, made an ID bracelet, they can wear or create a label with their name and your phone number. If they have any special needs or allergies, it’s best to include that on there as well. It is highly advised for adults to walk with their child if they are under the age of 12. 3. Let there be light - Having a strong flashlight with a new set of batteries is a great things to carry at night. The one on your phone might drain your phone's battery pretty quickly. 4. Sidewalks - If there are sidewalks in your neighborhood, use them! Keep off the road, especially with lots of moving cars. 5. Hydrate - Yes, hydrate. Hydrate. HYDRATE! Bring water for yourself and for the kids. Running up and down those long driveways and lawns can really make you thirsty. 6. Stay Warm - The crisp autumn air can turn into a frigid night. Dress in layers for yourself and kids. I love these hand and body warmers and keep them in my pockets. Also, bring a blanket for the children you’re pulling in the wagon or pushing in the stroller. 7. Allergy - If you or your children have an allergy, ask your neighbors if they have any allergy free treats. You can usually tell if they have a teal colored pumpkin outside. If not, read the labels for the ingredients and check the candy for any tears, pinholes or discoloration. If you don’t trust it, toss it! Or give the candy to a friend. Have a happy and safe Halloween!
