3 REASONS TO GO SOLAR The main reason New Zealanders choose to go solar is to save money Rising electricity prices and falling costs of solar technology mean solar is now a viable economic option for New Zealanders. Households going solar lock in a low and stable price for their energy in the face of continuing electricity price increases.

Solar is also better for the environment Each solar system reduces dependence on the fossil fuels that make up a portion of New Zealand’s electricity supply. They also reduce the inefficiencies of energy lost in transmitting electricity around the country’s distribution network.

...and solar adds value to a home Good quality solar panels last for decades and provide an amount of energy worth more than the cost to install them. Electricity price increases are making more and more home buyers aware of the value of energy efficiency and generation measures.

SOLAR SAVES YOU MONEY Most New Zealanders are well aware of the rising cost of electricity Increases vary from year to year but, between 2003 and 2011, electricity prices rose by an average rate of 7% a year - effectively doubling. Some households faced as much as 12% increases. The cost of solar technology, on the other hand, has been falling by 7% per year over the past thirty years.

Each unit of solar energy used is one less that needs to be bought from an electricity retailer While electricity prices continue to rise, the cost of solar-provided energy is a “locked-in energy price over the life of the solar equipment, because the ‘fuel’ - sunshine - is free.

ADD VALUE TO YOUR HOME The savings from solar panels can translate directly into increased home resale value Many homeowners make improvements to their home with the expectation they will recoup the cost when they come to sell. With many home improvements it is difficult to quantify how much value has been added. Solar, on the other hand, is simple to quantify. Each system has a guaranteed lifetime and generating capacity, so at any point in its life a simple calculation can estimate the value of energy left in the system for potential buyers.

The costs of electricity is also making energy a priority for home buyers A 2012 New Zealand survey found that energy efficiency measures are as important as how a house looks to home buyers. Amongst home sellers, almost 90% believed energy efficiency measures were worth a price premium.

HOW INSTALLATION WORKS Step 1: DESIGN Every home is unique, so every system needs to be designed to suit the house's architecture, orientation to the sun, roof area and location. Expert solar engineers produce customised plans for a solar system specific to the house and household's energy needs.

Our team has years of experience designing and installing high quality Solar PV systems, and we customise every job to fit into your budget and energy goals.

Step 2: GRID APPROVAL A Solar grid approval is required for every on grid installation by their local lines company.

World Solar take care of this entire process for you.

Step 3: INSTALLATION Professional solar installers build the solar system according to the plan. A project manager oversees the installation of the system to ensure the all requirements and standards are met.

World Solar's professional installation teams have extensive experience and assemble each solar system to our high standards.

Step 4: MONITORING To ensure a solar system is working as it should, it is important to monitor the system's performance. By tracking key data it allows home-owners to maximise the savings that the solar system will deliver. For monitoring we require clients to have wifi access.

World Solar's Inverters have comprehensive online monitoring programs, that record the energy production from the date of installation. Information can be broken down into months, weeks, days or the last five minutes.

Note: Building consent is not required, we do recommend for new builds while the consent is being process. All approvals will need to be added to your lim report.

SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAICS (PV) PV panels use the suns energy to generate electricity to power homes or businesses PV panels produce energy from daylight, not direct sunlight, so they still produce energy on cloudy or overcast days. The electrical energy produced is either used directly in the home or business, or sold back to an electricity supplier. At night, electricity from the grid is supplied in the normal way.

The importance of panel lifetime A solar system is an investment in the future energy supply of a home or business. For that investment to work the system needs to last. Manufacturers offer warranties with each system that guarantees a certain level of performance over its lifetime.

A warranty only lasts as long as the manufacturer does A well-known brand of panel from an established manufacturer might cost more, but you can have confidence that the company won’t disappear overnight.

World Solar Solar Panels come with a 25 year 80% performance warranty, and ensure your electricity savings are maximised. World Solar’s Panels are 100% clean energy compliant. World Solar only uses products from the most well respected manufacturers in the Industry.

Module can bear snow loads up to 5400P a and wind loads up to 38900P Guaranteed power output (0~+3%) High performance under low light conditions (Cloudy days, mornings and evenings)

ENVIRONMENTAL Traditional electricity generation relies on oil, coal, water, or a combination of the three Burning fossil fuels for power is unsustainable and is generally accepted to be the driving cause of climate change. Hydro power stations, while cleaner than fossil fuel generation, still have the potential to impact on the environment through the creation of damns. And whether from fossil fuels or hydro, the transmission of electricity around the country’s vast electricity network is inefficient, causing energy to be lost in distribution.

Solar is clean energy generation Solar is an important building block of a new carbon-free clean energy future and is part of the solution to climate change. By going solar we reduce carbon emissions and minimise impact on our natural resources and environment. Distributed generation via solar also cuts down the efficiencies of large-scale distribution networks, minimising energy loss.

All of World Solar’s components are selected based on strict criteria, focused on minimising our impact on the environment. We produce site-specific sustainability plans for all our installations and select products which can be recycled or re-used at the end of their useful lives. INSTALLATION FACTORS Many factors specific to a location can affect solar system performance •

The orientation of the panels is key. Panels should face as close to true north as possible, but the layout of a roof may mean they need to point up to northeast or northwest.

Panels should also ideally be tilted according to latitude to allow maximum solar performance.

The degree of tilt also needs to allow for self-cleaning.

Any site-specific shading will reduce effectiveness of a system, as ideally panels should be in full sun between 9am and 3pm.

World Solar’s in-house engineering and design team customises solar solutions to suit a home’s architecture, location and the households projected energy needs. Our professional installation teams have extensive experience and assemble each solar system to our high standards. We have a comprehensive record having installed over 9000 photovoltaic (PV) systems across Australasia during the last six years. 10

SOLAR AND THE GRID Grid-connected solar PV systems feed surplus electricity back into the national grid Solar photovoltaic panels generate energy for use in a home or business. When there is more energy generated than is required, this can be supplied back to the electricity grid. When surplus power is fed back into the grid an energy retailer credits the customer’s account, with the amount credited depending on the retailer’s ‘feed-in tariff’. In New Zealand, there is no law guaranteeing a minimum price retailer’s have to pay for your surplus electricity. This means feed-in tariffs could possibly be cut in the future. This happened recently, with some generators cutting payments for household's generating solar power to concentrate on solar farm sheds and commercial buildings. Because feed-in tariffs are of a less amount than the price household's pay for electricity, it makes sense to use as much solar-generated energy in the house rather than feed it back into the grid.

...World Solar works with customer’s to identify the appropriate photovoltaic system size for their energy consumption patterns.

SOLAR SYSTEM SIZES Any solar system reduces the power a household needs to buy from energy retailers The bigger the system, the bigger the reduction. The size of the solar system required depends on three factors:

The area of un-shaded space available

The amount of energy a household wants to generate

The budget available

...World Solar have the products available to suit all budgets and rooftops, and if no north facing roof space is available - then one of our ground mounted systems would be ideal. Our smallest system is a 1.5kW system and there is no limit on how big of a system we can provide. W O R L D SO L A R W E PU T T H E P OWE R BA C K IN Y OU R H A N D S

WORLD SOLAR INVERTERS Inverters convert DC electricity generated by the Solar PV into AC electricity for homes and businesses PV panels produce low voltage DC electricity. An inverter converts this into AC electricity to power standard appliances. Inverter efficiency is measured by how well it converts DC electricity into AC electricity. This usually ranges between 95% and 98% with inverters sized according to the power they can supply. The more efficient an inverter the better, as less electricity will be wasted. This will have a direct impact on the amount of time it takes for a solar system to pay for itself.

World Solar Inverters and choosing the correct one for your home Because all homes are built differently, when it comes to choosing the correct inverter for your home there are different factors that need to be taken into consideration. For example roof availability, shading issues, family size and power usage. Once these factors have been considered we are then able to recommend the best inverter to suit your home and your family.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SYSTEM Recommendations Ask any friends and family who already have solar installed. They’ll be able to tell you about how their system is performing, and the company that installed it. World Solar have installed a large amount of Solar PV systems throughout New Zealand. Each of these satisfied customers have made themselves available for comment to prospective buyers.

Solar panel quality and lifetime Like cars, solar panels vary in their quality and how long they can be expected to last. As an investment in your energy future, a panel needs to last the distance so look at the lifetime guaranteed by the manufacturer - and whether the manufacturer has a track record that indicates they’ll be around to back up the guarantee. World Solar have access to the highest quality products on the market. Our comprehensive warranties on products and installation cannot be beat; our World Solar Panels come with a 25 year performance warranty.

Compare all components Solar systems consist of panels, inverters, cabling, and mounting hardware. All of the equipment in the system need to last to support the panels that are generating energy. World Solar prefer to only use the best products, but if a client already has a preferred product in mind - then we can certainly source those items at fantastic value.

Expect realistic prices Just like cars, the price of solar systems varies with their quality. Quality hardware and installation comes with a price and, just like with cars, you get what you pay for. Make sure you compare the components and warranties to understand the quality you are paying for. World Solar recommend their prospective clients to compare pricing and products specifications with all of our competitors. We are confident that if this process takes place accurately then we will come out on top every time.

TESTIMONIALS Eb and Jitske Wijkstra, Invercargill “We had World solar install our 8.5 kW system. Doone and his teams were intelligent, confident, polite and conscientious. They left no mess behind and were fun to have around. They were efficient, professional and very friendly. We love the system! All our questions about the pros and cons of the different installations were answered thoroughly and I was given enough information to make a quick and easy decision. Our solar PV system has been up and operating now, and we have been extremely happy with the process and the product. Without exception, everyone we interacted with from World Solar, was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional throughout the process. They were never pushy, and were understanding. We heartily recommend World Solar. We still need to work a bit on reducing our electrical usage, it feels great to have a good portion of it generated by the sun. Thanks again guys, we do and will continue to recommend you to our friends and family.”

David Ainslie, Central Otago “I had been kicking around the idea of solar for our Arrowtown home as I had seen several homes around our area that had solar panels on their homes. I had asked them how they liked the system and they had nothing but praise for solar. They were getting .12c to .14c into the grid. I only get .07c I am working at getting that increased substantly I visited family in the States June/July 2015. On that visit I found out that my nephew had put 50 solar panels on his house after cutting down all his pine trees in his back yard as to capture more sun. He has found that in the winter his neighbor’s trees were blocking several of his panels. He has offered to cut down those neighbor’s trees and take them away at no cost, just to increase his sun on his blocked solar panels. Just a bit anal!I My wife called me at my sister’s house to say our June/July electric bill had come and it was $587 dollars down from $605 in May/June. My sister had been listening to our conversation and after I had hung up the phone, she showed me her electric bill for June of $43.00. She has all the drapes pulled closed and two air conditioners running 24/7! I read an article in the States on solar that said if you were paying between 9.5wh and 12.5wh, solar made sense. I was paying 34.4kwh!!! That’s a no brainer! On arriving home in August I told my wife we were going solar. A co-worker friend of my wife said about a year ago they had gone solar, suggested I speak to her husband. After talking to Gabe for about two hours on his system that World Solar of Invercargill had installed, I was sold. The next Monday I called for an appointment with World Solar.. Tyrone Cranston called in later that week. We spent the better half of a day going over every aspect of the job and cost. Tyrone answered all my questions and the warranty out did any of the other companies by far. World Solar and Tyrone were great to work with and their follow up

has been First Class. I had a 30 panel system installed in September. The export meter wasn’t installed until late October. My Trust Power bill for Oct/Nov 2014 was $350.51. My Meridian bill for Oct/Nov 2015 was $79.05, a savings of $271.46. My Nov/Dec Meridian bill was $1.98!!, a savings of $175.72 and for Dec/ January my Meridian bill, they owed me $33.62!! Call World Solar today and never look back! Great Customer Service from all their employees”

Shane Bond, Christchurch “With a family of five in a market where the cost of electricity continues to climb the decision to install a solar system was a no brainer. Having shopped around, Doone and his team at World Solar stood out from the competitors. World Solar expertise through to the seamless installation and personal follow up, the process has been stress free. The system itself has already saved us thousands and will continue to do so. We are delighted with our system and we would recommend without hesitation to anyone considering a solar installation to contact World Solar. You won’t be disappointed.”

Lionel and Dianne Parsloe, Coromandel “After considering for some time about moving into contact and more information regarding Solar Power for our Home, we spent some time on Google and gained quite a lot of information, but very little info regarding the actual costs and potential value etc, so we decided to contact a couple of Companies involved in the Industry. One Company answered very promptly, and another took quite some time to contact us. We chose to ask the company who responded, and we are very very pleased we did. We were given basic information over the Phone, enough to gain our interest positively and arranged a meeting at our Home. The Company member who came to our place arrived at the time promised and spent over an hour explaining everything we asked about, including costs, time to install the products, the approximate value regarding the amount we would potentially save. We spent a few days considering everything and rang back to accept the quote given. We were given the date the Solar Panels would be installed, and the time needed to install it. The date and time we were given was exactly the day and hour that the installers arrived and the time that the work would be finished by was also correct. The installation was quick and tidy, the staff were very good, all the roof was left in good order and all rubbish was taken. We have had the system working for us for 4 months, and we have noticed a considerable difference in Power Bills and we intend to add 2 more Panels to our home, and also have a set of panels put onto the Cottage we let. We consider World Solar a Company who make a time and cost for their work to be a rare organization thing these days and we recommend them for all who are considering Solar Power for their Home or Business. “

BATTERY SOLUTIONS

E N E R GY STO R AG E F O R A S U S TA I N A B L E H O M E Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, and powers your home in the evening. Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall enables you to maximize selfconsumption of solar power generation.

Why Powerwall? Tesla home batteries maximize the usefulness of your solar panels and offer a variety of backup electricity supply solutions. You can even go off the grid.

Solar electricity at night

Go net zero

Emergency backup

Powerwall stores electricity generated by solar panels during the day and makes it available to your home in the evening.

Combine solar panels and one or more Powerwall home batteries to power your home independently from the utility grid.

In the event of a utility outage, Powerwall can power your entire home or select appliances with an uninterrupted supply of electricity.

A net zero energy rating means that your home produces as much energy as it consumes, but is still connected to the utility grid for periods of high demand.

When installed along with solar panels, Powerwall will allow your home to use solar generated electricity during a utility outage.

This bridges the gap between peak solar and peak demand, allowing you to use your photons when you need them.
