Message from Mrs Conrad A very warm welcome back to school and a happy Easter to you all! It has been a fantastic week with the sun shining and the girls returning, full of excited enthusiasm and energy. I was very excited to learn that one of our Year 6 pupils, Daniella, has won first prize in a national poetry competition and her stunning poem will be published and available in key libraries across the country over the next few months. There has been an unprecedented amount of interest in families wanting to join St Teresa’s with numerous prospective parents touring the Prep School during the holidays and after school. Truly a wonderfully positive start to the final term – and don’t forget that the season of Easter continues for 50 days so you can keep on enjoying those chocolate treats!

Good News! Congratulations!! We hope that you will join us in wishing Miss Roberts and her family huge congratulations on the safe arrival of baby Leo on 26th March 2021. Both Leo and Miss Roberts are doing really well and we can’t wait to meet him in person.

Little Princess Trust Clara in Year 4 is raising money for Little Princess Trust, a charity that provide real hair wigs for children undergoing treatment for cancer. She is so inspired by the Little Princess Trust she is going to cut her hair and donate it to them for their wigs. They gave her friend’s sister a beautiful wig and Clara hopes that her hair will make another person feel beautiful and confident. Clara’s haircut is scheduled for 22the May. If you would like to sponsor Clara you can do so via her JustGiving page—here. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Little Princess Trust.

Competition Winner! In March, Daniella entered the 2021 Elmbridge Literary Competition (8-11 years old category) with the theme of 'music'. Daniella's poem, The Piano, has been awarded 1st prize and her short story, A Musical Mystery, was commended by the judges. Her poem will be published as a chapbook and copies of it will be made available at The British Library, Oxford, Cambridge, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Both of her entries will also be showcased on the RC Sherriff website as well the Elmbridge Borough Council website. Well done, Daniella! What an incredible achievement.

Good News! Easter Gardens Alana and her sister Beatrix made these beautiful Easter gardens at home.

Poem Felicity has been doing some litter picking near her house over the holidays and she wrote this poem to submit for a Blue Peter Environment Badge. Well done Felicity!

Tremors! Sophia in Year 3 found an article in The Week Junior that shows a six year old boy who found a fossil in his garden. This links into Year 3s work for their topic Tremors this half term.

Flo has been tending to the new baby lambs, piglets and calves on her farm during the Easter holidays!

Good Work! Year 5—Chef ’s Adopt a School As part of our Year 5 ‘Chef’s Adopt a School’ programme, Chef Gary taught the girls about taste and how the tongue has different areas for bitter, sweet, sour and salty. The girls then tested various foods. They were surprised by the pleasant bitterness of chicory, but the resounding favourite was the strawberry jelly!

Year 1 - Art In Art this term the Year 1s are focusing on the idea of Earth Art. We began this topic by thinking about rocks, and the different places in nature that we find them. The girls then had the chance to design their very own unique pattern to paint onto a rock. They were so creative and beautiful!

Year 4—RE In RE this week, we finished our topic on Easter by looking at the resurrection of Jesus. Using different scriptures, we created triptychs. This is a work of art that is divided into three sections and ours showed the story of Easter.

Year 3—Science In Science this term, the girls in Year 3 have started to look at rocks as part of their ‘Tremors’ topic. They had to compare and group rocks using their appearance and properties. It was a lot of fun and much harder than it looked!

Year 3—Gardening Club The sun was shining on our first Eco and Gardening Club of the year and the girls were very excited. They were amazing at turning the soil over in the new raised beds in the lower playground and adding compost to the soil. We will be ready to plant in the weeks to come.

Music News Musicians of the Week Ariella v H for making a very good contribution to her first music lesson at St T’s. Evie B for making a good musical link when listening to a celeste. Sofia G for working very hard on her chime bar playing.

Instrumental Lessons Please note that the cost of instrumental lessons will rise in September. In line with the Senior School, this will be £217.50 for a set of 10 half hour lessons.

Exam Success Congratulations to Lucia M in Year 6 who has gained a merit for her Grade 2 piano exam. Well done Lucia!

Year 3 String Quartet Year 3 String Quartet played to the rest of the year group showing what they had learnt in three weeks! It was very impressive and we enjoyed the rendition of Dozy Dragonflies. Jessica was on the violin, Stef was on the viola and Searlait on the cello. Unfortunately, Olivia was away but she would have been playing violin

This Week It was wonderful, this week, to return to school and be able to wish every one a ‘Happy Easter!’ Easter is the greatest feast of the Church’s year and during the week we have reflected on the account of the resurrection of Jesus. We began by remembering how the women went to the tomb early on Sunday morning, only to find that the stone had been rolled away that that Jesus had risen. The news reached the apostles but they were still filled with fear. They expected to be arrested and possibly to face the same tortuous death that Jesus himself had faced.

It was into this situation that Jesus himself appeared. Most significantly he began with the words of reassurance, ‘Peace be with you!’ Whatever burdens of fear and worry they had, he offered to remove them forever. Thomas, famously, was not there at that moment. He couldn’t believe what the others had told him. It was only when Jesus appeared once again - this time with Thomas present - that Thomas made his great declaration about Jesus, ‘My Lord and my God!’ How unfortunate that Thomas has been given the nickname ‘Doubting’ when, in fact, he is the first of the followers of Jesus to recognise who Jesus really was - ‘Our Lord and Our God!’ We pray that we can recognise this over the coming weeks as we celebrate the great joy of the season of Easter.

We hope that you’ve had a lovely half term and are excited as we are to be back! While we are still sticking to a majority of our preventative procedures, such as social distancing, staggered lessons, masks within 2m and hand washing. Riders are allowed once again to collect their horses from the barn for their lessons, and return them to their stable at the end.

We want to thank you to you all for your patience with booking on the new system. We’re still in the trial period and any feedback is greatly appreciated to improve the experience going forward.

With the system, our cancellation policy has changed slightly, we still require 48hrs notice of a cancellation for the lesson to be credited but we no longer require a reason for a catch-up lesson to be owed.

May Half Term Pony Days Once we publish the dates for the Pony Mornings and Afternoons for the half term, we won’t be asking for bookings through the office. You will be able to book straight on with the online booking system.

Please bring your own hat and boots to ride in as we are not lending out equipment until it is deemed safe to do so.

NSEA Reports On Friday 9th April, we had a team of four riders out competing in an Eventers Challenge at Felbridge. Chloe, Inde, Lottie, and Sofie came 4th overall in the 70cm class. Well done everyone!
