Reception News
Reception have been working extremely hard in Maths this term, learning about the composition of numbers to 20 and using concrete objects to help them. Miss Hurl and Mrs Prothero have been very impressed with the children's teamwork and resilience when they might not get the answer right!

National Champions!
On Sunday 16th March, the U11A Football team travelled to Millfield Prep for the U11 IAPS National Football Finals. The team qualified back in October, but the original finals date was postponed due to bad weather. After winning the group stage with three wins and a draw, Cranmore topped the group with 10 points and progressed into the quarter finals against Lambrook school. After a tense game, the score was poised at 0-0. There was no change after 4 minutes of golden goal, so the dreaded penalty shootout loomed. However, three fantastic penalties from Cranmore and one brilliant save saw Cranmore progress to the semi-final. A similar story here, where we played a local school, Parkside. After 18 minutes of no goals scored, it was back to penalties. Confidence was high and rightly so, as another 100% record from the spot and another fine save saw Cranmore progress into the National Final.
We were matched up against the hosts, Millfield Prep, a strong and physical team. The Cranmore boys played with grit and determination and although they dominated the game, still couldn't find that decisive goal. So, a third penalty shootout was required. Once again, three perfect penalties from Cranmore and a fine save, saw Cranmore win the match and they were crowned as U11 IAPS National Champions for the first time in the school's history! This was a huge achievement for the boys and for everyone involved.
I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to Mr Down for his time and effort in taking the team this season. The boys represented the school with distinction on the day, showing great sportsmanship throughout, shaking hands with our opponents before celebrating their success in all three of the knockout matches.
Well done, boys - you have made history!
Mr Cox, Head of Football
On Saturday morning, our U11B & U11C hockey teams were in action against Danes Hill. Both pitches saw some great hockey from Cranmore with the results being 5-1 and 5-2 respectively. The same morning, our U10 rugby team played in the Donhead 7s. The players put on a great display - see results below:
Donhead: won 25 - 10
RGS Guildford: won 25 - 5
Twickenham Prep: won 20 - 10
Old Wimbledonians RFC: won 35 - 10
Thomas’ Fulham: 5-2 in the final game, sealing a great way to end the U10 rugby season!
More hockey matches have taken place against Feltonfleet, Hoe Bridge and Western Green. On Tuesday, pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented Cranmore at the Danes Hill Cross-Country. The U9s finished 9th from 24 schools and the U11s finished 10th out of 25 schools. Good luck to our U10 hockey teams playing against Danes Hill and those pupils in the National Biathlon Finals tomorrow.
Swimming
On Saturday evening eight pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in the English Schools Primary Relay Gala at Guildford Spectrum. We took two teams, and they took part in both the Medley and the Freestyle relay events, with one team finishing 4th in the Medley and 5th in the Freestyle. There were some great swims with PB’s achieved by the boys involved. Well done.

Hodgson,
Director of Sport
A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
A Reading from the Gospel of John
None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Reflection
Let us pause and remember that Lent is a period of sanctification, an old fashioned word that means to be put aside or made holy. This Lent and as we approach Easter, I encourage you all to reflect on your life and to ask yourself is there something you can give up or something you can take up that will help you become the best that you can be. Blessed Carlo Acutis, who is to be canonised this April, understood the pressures we all feel but he also recognised that only in Jesus can our hearts find the peace we so desperately seek.
Prayer
Let us pray
God our Father, we give thanks for the season of Lent.
Give us the honesty to recognise what we need to change in our lives.
Help us to make choices in our lives that make space for You.
And guide us to become the good person you created us to be.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
"Happiness is to look to God, sadness is to look to oneself". Blessed Carlo Acutis
