Dear Parents The Christmas Term comes to a close today and we have this final bumper edition of the Chronicle with lots of photos of recent events to enjoy. As ever, this has been a very busy term with much achieved in all aspects of school life including academic matters, Music, Sport and Drama. Last night we enjoyed another superb Carol Service which was a wonderful celebration for the Cranmore community – pupils, parents, grandparents, governors, staff, former colleagues and friends of the school. I am immensely grateful to everyone who contributed and made it such a memorable occasion. It was a powerful reminder of what we are really celebrating at Christmas. Pope Francis, in his Urbi et Orbi address in 2013, said: Above all else, this is what Christmas bids us to do: give glory to God, for he is good, he is faithful, he is merciful…….My hope is that everyone will feel God’s closeness, live in his presence, love him and adore him. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Dear Parents I am sure that all of you have attended one or more of the Junior Christmas productions, five performances in total. Without exception I think you will agree that each production was most appropriate for the age group. Each one, in its own way, was special and of a very impressive standard. Needless to say we are very proud of your children. Thank you to the staff and of course to the children for their enormous efforts and hard work. At this time of year I always like to mention that there are families within our community who need our prayers, please remember them. I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas. I very much look forward to welcoming you back for the new term in 2017. Kindest regards Margaret Kieran Head of Junior Department

Bright Stars News This week the Pre-nursery children had lots of fun going on a listening walk around our school. We made our special headbands with listening ears attached and we heard many different and exciting sounds. We could hear birds singing, children playing and traffic in the distance!

School Council Visit Limegrove On Friday 2nd December, 16 School Council representatives visited Limegrove Residential Home in East Horsley. The home is for residents who are unable to look after themselves and also for those who require respite care. When we arrived, we handed out Christmas gifts to the residents which were thankfully received. After, all of the pupils performed acts ranging from music playing to joke and poetry telling. We finished our visit with 12 days of Christmas being sung by not only us, but by also the residents. The residents thoroughly enjoyed our visit as there were smiles all around and it will definitely be a day to remember. Ms Schembri would like to thank all the School Council representatives for their donations and to all who participated. Thank you also to Mrs Walker and to Mr Martin for accompanying us. Music Department News Farewell and Thank You, Mrs Martin We say a fond farewell to Anne Martin (B.Ed., M. Phil, M.Mus.), our recorder teacher, who will be retiring at the end of term after many years of service. Anne has been a most dedicated and professional member of staff and I know that her colleagues and pupils will miss her very much. We wish her a very happy and fulfilling retirement. In January we look forward to welcoming her successor, Kati Boosey (MMus, ARAM, MISM), a very experienced recorder teacher.

Instruments Please ensure that your child takes their instrument home for the holiday period. After all, you would be amazed at how much progress could be made if they keep up their practice. ABRSM Results I hope that the results to these exams will reach me before Christmas. If that is the case, I will endeavour to relay them to the music staff who will then inform their pupils of the good news. Mr Harris Director of Music

YOUNG VOICES AT THE O2: WEDNESDAY 18 JANUARY 2017

This is a reminder to all Jubilee Choir Members that the songs and lyrics for the O2 are on VLE for you to access during the holiday. Please may I also ask parents to support children in listening to the songs and learning the words as the whole experience is so much more enjoyable if the children are as familiar with the songs as possible. It promises to be a really special event and I am grateful for your support. Miss Fourie

CISC Christmas Card Competition Marcus Muir (5MF) has been awarded a Special Merit in this year’s CISC Christmas card competition. His powerful image of the Lampedusa Crosses will feature on the back cover of this year’s CISC Christmas card. Marcus used photocopied images of refugees, cut them into crosses and collaged the resulting images using glue and tissue paper. Well done, Marcus. Miss Darnton Head of Art
