SIXTH FORM NEWS Hi all,
I hope you have had a lovely week. As the term comes to a close, the Sixth Form has been busy continuing their lessons and preparing for Inter-House Arts. Thank you to everyone who supported the Head Girl Team’s Toilet Twinning stall at the Christmas Fair. We are making great progress and look forward to further events. The first round of Year 13 EPQ students delivered their project presentations this week. They told the audience about what they chose to do their report on, why, how they went about this, and what they had learnt from the experience, both academically and personally. On Wednesday, we all gathered in the Reading Room to make paper snowflakes, organised by the Events Committee, to decorate the Sixth Form with. On Thursday, the ALevel sports students welcomed other sports students from other schools for a revision session in Henderson Hall. For PSHCE this week, the Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend a relaxing Gong Bath session whilst Year 13 had an informative talk on Budgeting and Future Finances.
Have a lovely weekend,
Amelia (Deputy Head Girl)
BOARDING NEWS As the end of the term approaches, the girls in boarding have been making the most of their time together, filling their days with a variety of fun and enriching activities. This week has been especially memorable, with the girls coming together for some lively and friendly competition. They enjoyed playing classic board games such as UNO and Monopoly, where their competitive spirit really shone through. It was wonderful to see them engage with each other in such a positive and encouraging environment, cheering each other on and celebrating each other’s successes.
In addition to the board games, the girls also had the chance to enjoy a fun outing to the cinema to watch Moana 2. They were all excited to see the movie, and it didn’t disappoint. The laughter and excitement were infectious, and they savoured the movie whilst eating delicious snacks and refreshing soft drinks from the theatre. It was a perfect way to unwind and enjoy each other’s company outside of their usual routine. They also enjoyed a wonderful shopping trip to Westfields where they purchased lots of goodies and had a fun time around the shopping centre.
As the holiday season draws near, the girls are filled with anticipation and excitement for what lies ahead. They’re looking forward to spending quality time with family, relaxing, and making the most of the festive season. With just one week left until the holidays, the energy and enthusiasm are at an alltime high as everyone prepares for the well-deserved break. It’s been a fantastic term, and the girls are eager to see what the holidays will bring!
CHRISTMAS CONCERT Well done to everyone who took part in the Christmas Concert on Monday. You all played wonderfully and truly brought the festive spirit to St Teresa’s!
We are delighted to be holding our Carol Service on Tuesday 10 December. This event is compulsory for Years 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13. All Girls in Symphony Orchestra, Schola Cantorum, Showstoppers, and Sixth Form Choir are taking part and are expected to attend the Carol Service. All parents, and pupils in Years 10 and 11, are warmly invited to attend. The service starts at 18.30 and all girls attending will have supper provided.
YEAR 7 DRAMA FESTIVAL Year 7 have been working hard this half term in preparation for the Drama Festival competition! Each group was given a script from "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", which they needed to perform for their classes. The winners from each class then competed on Friday in the grand championship! Well done to everyone who took part – you all did amazingly!
GCSE TASTER DAY Following on from the GCSE Options Evening, Year 9 have been having their first taste of life as a GCSE pupil today in their lessons. They have been doing lots of activities and more advanced classes to get an idea of what those subjects will entail, helping them make more informed choices when selecting their GCSE options.
A LEVEL SPANISH TRIP On the 4th of December, the Spanish Department organised an exciting trip to the BFI in London, taking a group of Year 11, 12, and 13 pupils to attend a workshop titled "Exploring Federico García Lorca's Legacy through Film: A Study Day for ALevel Spanish Students." The workshop featured engaging sessions led by experts in Hispanic Studies: Sara Wright (Professor of Hispanic Studies, Royal Holloway, University of London), Dr Miguel García López (Senior Lecturer, University of Bristol), and Dr María Bastianes (Lecturer, Universidad Complutense de Madrid). The day began with interactive discussions, giving our pupils fascinating insights into the life and works of Federico García Lorca, one of Spain's most celebrated poets and playwrights. These sessions explored Lorca’s enduring influence on Spanish culture and his connection to themes such as tradition, repression, and the role of women in society. The event concluded with a screening of the critically acclaimed film La Casa de Bernarda Alba, directed by Mario Camus. They all thoroughly enjoyed learning about Lorca’s literary and cultural legacy while also honing their analytical and linguistic skills in Spanish!
SENIOR YOUTH SPEAKS ROTARY COMPETITION We hosted the Senior Level 'Youth Speaks Competition.' We had two teams representing our school, and we are very proud of their performances! One team (Maria H, Chloe H and Tanvita K) debated 'Rehabilitation is more effective than punishment in the criminal justice system.' Another team (Alicia A, Annabelle M and Morayo S) ably debated 'Rich people gain their wealth ethically and sustainably.' Overall, it was wonderful to hear the high standard of the debates, and we look forward to hosting again next year!
ECO NEWS We were visited this week by KBR One Ocean who gave a talk about sustainability during the Christmas period! They gave us some incredibly shocking facts to think about!
DID YOU KNOW? 227,000 miles of wrapping paper are used each year in the UK – enough to go around the world 9 times! Recycled brown paper is the best wrapping paper to use, but lots of wrapping paper is recyclable! Try to avoid foil or anything shiny/glittery and check the labels before you purchase! There are also many reusable alternatives such as gift bags or using a fabric wrap!

This Week This week we marked the beginning of the Church’s season of Advent - that wonderful period of preparation for the great feast of Christmas, when we remember the birth of our Saviour Jesus. At this time we hear the words from the prophet Isaiah who exhorted the people to prepare for their return, out of exile, to their home. Despite all the indications to the contrary, and despite the seeming impossibility of the return, Isaiah was filled with faith-filled hope that the time would come. Through this season of Advent we are encouraged to spend time reflecting on the coming feast - the birth of Jesus, the Saviour, who came into our world to save us and to open for us the way to heaven. We are called to be people of hope. We are encouraged to live lives that are characterised by hope, and to develop a deep trust in the God who loves us and who always accompanies us through life, in the good times and the hard times, a God who removes our fears. Let us wait for the Lord and make space this Advent for God.
