SIXTH FORM NEWS This week has been full of Christmas themed event in the Sixth Form, we have had a blast of fun but everyone is ready for a nice, restful Christmas break before the new year. On Monday night the sixth form had their Christmas ice skating trip at Somerset House, everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the ice with the alternating lights in front of Somerset House and the Christmas music playing in the background. Thankfully we had no injuries although its always funny to watch others on the ice. Courtesy of FOST we were then treated to a Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate before departing back to the train station. Throughout this last week of term we ran a secret elf sixth form event where everyone's names are put into a sack and each student takes one out anonymously; they then have the choice to be extra kind to their person throughout the week or buy them some chocolate or a little gift for Christmas without knowing who it was. We have a board in the common room especially put up for this week where people write their thank you’s to their secret elf and merry Christmas. On Tuesday morning, the events committee and a few other girls helped decorate the reading room into our very own Sixth Form Christmas Grotto. We had a balloon arch, baubles hanging from the ceiling, snowflake paper chains, paper snowflakes made by the sixth form, glitter on the tables, lanterns with candles and pine cones on the table decorations as this was where we had our own Sixth form Christmas oriental themed lunch. Gary and the catering team did an amazing job cooking up chilli beef, chicken noodles, veggie noodles, with prawn crackers of course and a homemade chocolate roulade for dessert. A great time was had by all students and sixth form staff who could make it. Wednesday morning came and the reading room was filled with gingerbread men and icing galore. The girls spent form time decorating their gingerbread with the various icing colours before munching away their artwork. From Wednesday afternoon for the remainder of the week the competition between heads of houses in the sixth form rose, with the preparations for Interhouse Arts beginning. From myself and everyone in the sixth form, we just want to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Imogen Lawford Head Girl Team

Wonderful performances by all the Houses on stage, lots of hard work backstage and a huge effort by the technical crew. Team spirit, friendship and comedy elements were a wonderful way to end the term.

And of course the staff panto!

Eco Tips of the week: Recycling six foil cases from mince pies will save enough energy to run a TV for 30 minutes. Other shiny things to include in your metals recycling this Christmas are foil food trays, that extra-large foil to cover your turkey (just make sure it’s clean and scrunch smaller pieces up together into a ball) metal lids, beer tops, the wire from the top of your bubbly, chocolate coin wrappers and of course those sweetie tins! When it comes to paper, if you can scrunch it and it stays scrunched you can recycle it (after removing any ribbons sticky tape or gift tags). Merry Christmas from all the Eco Council.
