Y10 A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SIXTH FORMER More Info on Page 3...
SIXTH FORM NEWS
Hi everyone,
Life in the sixth form has been very busy lately! Last Friday, we finished the week with a talk from Mrs Whitton about Thinking Traps. She introduced us to various mindsets that can have a negative effect on us, but also various ways of thinking that enhance our lives. It was interesting to learn about the various ‘traps’ we can get into, especially throughout our entire school careers. Such traps include, mindreading, where we believe we are aware of another person’s intentions and thoughts just from a simple look or conversation, when in actual fact we don’t, and we are just assuming. Being aware of these traps is helpful as it allows us to be aware of such thoughts and avoid them and support others to not become trapped.
Our Year 12 Careers Lesson was a practical session where we did mock interviews for potential jobs. In groups, half of us acted as a panel, asking questions and choosing the successful candidate, whilst the other half were candidates, proving to us why they deserve the job. Thank you to Mrs Renshaw and Joanna Tyerman (head of HR) for organising this!
Year 12 also went on a retreat day on Tuesday to the Franciscan Centre Ladywell in Godalming. Our day was full of games, story telling, laughs, reflective time, and fantastic food. We were able to hear personal stories from our retreat leader David, Sister Mary, a Franciscan Friar and our very own Abi B and Charlie J. We also visited a beautiful chapel where we were able to light candles for our loved ones and have some quite reflection time. The building and surrounding gardens were lovely; we spent some time in the garden singing together and taking a walk. Thank you to Deacon Simon, Mr Stephens and Mr Mirza for accompanying us!
And finally, congratulations to all of Year 13 for finishing your mocks! We hope they went well and wish you some well-deserved rest.
Have a lovely weekend,
Amelia (Deputy Head Girl)
BEYOND GCSEs
All our Year 10 pupils from Cranmore, Manor House and St Teresa’s had the opportunity on Tuesday to experience a Day in the life of a Sixth Form Student. ROTARY CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION
Well Done to all the girls who competed in the Rotary Creative Writing Competition! Below is one the winning entries, written by Alana E.
Out of the eye of the storm, roared a mighty beast. Flaming pupils of inferno soared across the blazing tempest, teeth like swords cut through the icy winds like sharp eagle talons. For a moment all was still. The howl of the sky-beast stopped, its talons merely grazing the battling ocean below. A wing of golden light sweeps the clouds, like the wing of an angel but lighter, softer and brighter and the world falls silent, the little pieces of the storm clicking together, slowly forming a much quieter, stubborn whoosh of wind to gently rattle the trees.“She sees it come.” The old one said. “The girl who waits at the window.”
chanted the others, young and old, child and grown. The girl could hear their song, though the trees changed their whisper and their song sounded haunting. Her sleep was disturbed with the elder’s cries, they rattled around in her head over and over again, until she thought she would go mad. “She is the angel’s wing – she brings peace.”
The young girl did not know anything about peace, she was used to the elder’s chants every night and the whispers through the trees. The ghost of her past was ever rattling her brain…
“Ammira!” they called, “the trees need you.”
She awoke to the dawning sun one morning on the edges of the winter frost. The trees swayed steadily, and the girl decided to reach out to them, for their leaves were ever greying and were barely wisps on their knotted branches of yew, and oak. She rested her hand on the rough bark, crumbling between her fingers like broken dreams, now frayed and worn, nearing morning when they would all be forgotten for new. Their trunks were sooty grey, aged like wilted thistles and twisted with memories, of love, laughter and joy.
Ammira stroked their leaves, kissing the flowers spiralling like fireflies around oak. She danced and remembered her past days with yew, and her favourite tree, elm, like silver beaches and glistening waves striped across its face like shed tears. Tracing its waving patterns, she smiled and turned towards the rest of the forest, gleaming and shining like sun-tears ahead. On the mossy, earthen floor lay a stump of twisted age. It’s beautiful, tinted bark was cut jagged like teeth and the centre was twirled with charred swirls. An axe shone silver as the light bounced off its edge, cut into the mangled tree. Ammira felt a tear drop onto the old tree’s surface as she stroked it, like a lost friend. Someone had killed, murdered birch for their own gain and now she was lost to another world Ammira lay down a few thistles at her base and remembered the wonder that had once been a living soul. A glowing lantern was propped up against the birch’s base and a few roses, gifts form the trees, were scattered on the forest floor. Ammira reached carefully into her pocket and drew out a silver coin, printed and stamped with an old oak, with long sheltering branches. Rubbing away the dirt, she laid it on the tree’s grave and pulled out the axe, throwing it far into the forest, away from her home she could rebuild her world from the ashes planting a seed of hope.

Topic of the week: Fitness
It is important to keep your horse fit for the work that they do to reduce the chance of injury and to benefit their overall heath. When riding out on a fit horse, you will find it more enjoyable to go out for longer rides as well as perform better at the disciplines you love.
If your horse is unfit, they might have trouble recovering from exercise, be out of breath easily, and have ‘soft’ muscles which means they lack muscle and tone.
Holidays Activities 2024
We have released our holiday activities on our online booking system for the rest of the academic year!
Easter Holidays, May Half Term and Summer Holidays
Unfit horses, or horses coming back into work, need to follow a strict fitness program to improve their stamina, muscle tone and their oxygen circulation.

We will be running a variety of Pony Mornings, Pony Afternoons, Private Lessons, Lunge Lessons, Day Camps and a few others.
They are all on the EcPro system and you can book a place now!
This Week
We are reminded that the three great themes and tasks of Lent are to pray, to fast and to give generously to others. To help us with these tasks, for the next three weeks we are looking at the example of Jesus in three passages in Mark’s gospel, where Jesus important messages that open our hearts and minds to God’s call in our lives.
The first passage we looked at was the account of Jesus healing the man with leprosy (Mark 1:40-45). To be leper in Jesus time meant that you were totally rejected by society, having to live outside the walls of the town, with no contact with family, friends or community, and having to call out ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ whenever someone approached. The lepers were feared and hated in equal measure.
In a miraculous moment, Jesus heals the man who has fallen before him. Yet the cure is perhaps not the greatest miracle here. We can imagine the watching disciples’ disbelief as Jesus, rather than fleeing the presence of the leper, approaches him and, in what must have seemed a moment of utter recklessness, gently reaches out and touches the distorted skin of the leper. This touch, a sign of acceptance and welcome as well as healing is surely the greatest miracle.
There are times when we feel that we are like that leper. Perhaps we feel outcast from our community or society . Or perhaps we feel that something we have done deserves that rejection, by others and, perhaps, even by God. In fact, that healing hand that reached out to the leper just a surely reaches out to each and everyone of us, drawing us into that relationship of love. Nothing we do can ever separate us from that love. The invitation is always there, if we choose to accept it.
Similarly, if we have been so wholeheartedly welcomed back, so we in our turn are called to reach out to others and to welcome them back. Whatever judgement the world places on people, we are called to reach out in loving friendship to everyone, just as Jesus did!
