Welcome! I do hope that you had a wonderful summer holiday. It is delightful to see all the girls back up the hill, and I extend a particularly warm welcome to members of our community who are new. I have no doubt that everyone will find their feet very quickly. There is, moreover, busy-ness and a lovely, lively atmosphere. As you will be aware, we have dispensed with bubbles and are running the school as normally as possible. We do still encourage the use of twice-weekly lateral flow testing; my understanding is that the Government will review this at the end of the month. My thanks to all who were involved in the mass testing that took place on Friday of last week and Wednesday of this week. We are also ventilating classrooms by keeping the windows and doors firmly open for now. We remain alert, but, nevertheless, it has been joyous to allow movement around the site, singing in assembly and in chapel (the school hymn making an unprecedented four appearances this week - and quite right too) and gatherings of mixed year groups. These are things that we will never take for granted again. My congratulations must go to our outgoing Year 13s and current Year 12s for their excellent A Level and GCSE results. We could not be prouder of what they have achieved academically in the most trying of circumstances. 42% of the A Level cohort gained places at Russell group universities, including Oxbridge; but our felicitations go to each and every examination pupil in our erstwhile Year 13 who achieved such splendid results. They head out into the world. I have no doubt that they will make a difference; they are a memorably cracking year. Year 12 are set fair to excel at A Level, and I look forward to them embracing life in the Sixth Form. I look forward to meeting parents of new girls later on today, at our reception at 5.30pm. I do hope that you have a good weekend. Best wishes, Dr Claire McShane
SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING
Dear Parents of girls in Year 11 You are cordially invited to attend our Open Evening on Thursday 16 September, to find out more about the choice of A Level subjects. You will be able to meet Senior staff and Heads of Departments in order to discuss subjects and possible A level choices. The evening will begin at 18:30 until 20:00 in Mairlot Hall with a drinks reception and a chance to collect some Sixth Form subject literature and an opportunity to visit the Sixth Form Centre.
BOARDING NEWS We had a great first night in boarding last Friday, with new friendships already forming and much fun and laughter. The boarders had a busy weekend with a shopping trip for everyone to Guildford on Saturday which was very much enjoyed, as well as an afternoon of bowling on Sunday and a mindfulness screen free walk in our beautiful grounds for those who stayed behind. Next weekend, Thorpe Park and a trip to the cinema are on the agenda, as well as vital trips to Sainsbury’s!
MESSAGE FOR YEAR 7 Year 7 should come into school wearing Mufti on Tuesday so they are prepared for the Year 7 Teambuilding in the afternoon.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS The Performing Arts department is very excited to announce that they will be doing Royal Shakespeare Company's 'Wendy and Peter Pan' as this term's whole school production. The Performing Arts Department would like to celebrate the fact that theatre is back and embrace the magic of theatre so will be using a fly system and all sorts of exciting things to bring the magic of theatre back to St Teresa's. An email was sent this week to all pupils regarding all of the details about auditions, audition pieces, sign up sheets etc. Auditions are during lunchtime the week of 13-17 September and girls have been asked to sign up on the sign-up sheets on the Performing Arts Notice board. Please see lunchtime clubs and activities timetable below:
SIXTH FORM NEWS This week we have had the joy of welcoming our new year 12 students to the Sixth Form Centre and enjoying the fresh atmosphere of a new school year. Year 12 and 13 spent time getting to know each other this week through our vertical tutor groups and our new and improved buddy system, led by our Deputy Head Girl Lara, which involved members of the year 13 girls being paired up with a new year 12 student to have a chat and share tips over breakfast courtesy of our wonderful catering team. Our Student Council are meeting on Monday breaktime to begin to plan their projects for this term so please pass on any ideas that you have to your Student Council Reps. We are looking forward to the start-up of the new clubs that are now allowed to go ahead with the mixing of bubbles and locations; look out for new sports, arts and academic based clubs that our prefects have planned! More exciting news is that we are also planning an Autumn Term Edition of our Student Magazine and so watch out for some new and exciting opportunities to get published by taking part in competitions and challenges throughout this term. Competitions will be offered to all year groups and the winning pieces will be included in the magazine for all to read! Wishing everyone a very enjoyable year ahead,
Imogen Lawford, Deputy Head Girl

A very warm welcome back to school from the FOST Committee. We hope you’ve had a lovely summer and that your girls have enjoyed their first week back at school. It’s been so wonderful to meet many of you at the recent uniform Summer sales, drop offs and collections and the parents welcome receptions.
WATCH THIS SPACE Please do keep your eyes on this newsletter along with Classlist, for news of upcoming FOST events. With our fabulous network of class reps and our new Instagram page fost_st_teresas_effingham we’re pretty certain you’ll be fully informed! In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing details of the events planned for this year so far. We’re a really friendly bunch of Mums and Dads keen to support the school and to organise awesome events for girls and parents to enjoy, so please do get in touch if you’d like to volunteer fostst@icloud.com.
CLASSLIST We want all our communication to be as secure as possible so we ask all year reps to use Classlist (https://app.classlist.com/) to communicate to parents wherever it’s feasible to do so. In the senior school, this saves the creation of enormous WhatsApp groups, especially with up to 80 in some years! We have been working hard this week to update and organise the year groups for the 2021/2022 school year, so please take some time to check your details (update any contact details and add/delete existing or past St T pupils). If you are new to the school, please create a profile for yourself including your daughter’s details. Please note that you can enter whatever details you are happy to share on your profile and this will only be visible to your year group. Your email address is hidden and you can only be emailed via the App. The best way to get to know Classlist is by logging on from a computer and clicking on all the tabs. Should you have a query or need help, please email classlistst@icloud.com for assistance.

We hope that you have all had a lovely summer holiday and have had a great first week back at school! We’re so happy to start our termly lessons next week, and have enjoyed the ad-hoc lessons and assessments that we have run this past week.
You may have noticed that we have a few new horses over here at the stables. Roxy, Oliver and Diesel came in over the summer and took part in some of our Pony Days as well as some lessons this week. They are still settling in to our routine and so we will be taking great care about who will be assigned to ride them in lessons. This week, Sandy and Mouse have arrived. They are very new so if you see them on the yard please be nice and quiet if you want to say hello. You may have seen our email, but if all our termly riders wouldn’t mind coming 5-10 minutes early to their lessons so that we can record what they’d like to aim for in their lessons for this coming term. We will see you all next week, have a lovely weekend! October Half Term Pony Days Dates are not out yet for the half term. We will send an email out to everyone once they are up on the system ready to book.
NSEA Competition Reports On Monday 23rd August to Wednesday 25th August was the Dressage and Show Jumping Championships at Hickstead! A group of riders who had qualified throughout the year headed out to compete in Show Jumping teams and did fantastically well! On the Monday, in the 70cm Championship class, St Teresa’s Green team came 5th with two clear rounds and one four faults! On the Wednesday was the Grassroots Show Jumping Championships where we had two teams in both the 60cm and 70cm classes. In the 60cm class, the Navy team came 2nd and the Pink team came 4th! In the 70cm class, the Green team 2nd and the Blue team came 9th! Congratulations to everyone who competed at Hickstead! Full results will be up on our website.
This Week There are few more exciting things at the beginning of a new school year than a pristine, new pencil case. Following the example of St Ignatius, who tells us ’see God in all things’, our pencil cases formed the basis of our reflection in Chapel this week. The pencils speak of excitement and joy - but they will do no good unless we plunge in and use them. May we use all our God-given gifts and talents through this year. As we fill innumerable empty pages with our work, may our lives be marked out with the record of proud achievements. With care let us work to make those permanent markings in our character that will be with us throughout our lives. Let there be plenty of moments that we can highlight as genuine progress and achievement, and let us not let those moments pass unnoticed. And when we make mistakes, as we surely shall, let us remember that our merciful heavenly father washes all our errors away, as if they had never happened. Instead, let us use those mistakes as times of reflection and learning. And then let us make amends, sharpen our focus and begin again, as if for the first time. Let us notice how we have grown along the way, those moments in life where we have changed directions and found another angle to solve a problem. And when we come across something new and unexpected, that we haven’t seen or used before, let us be inquisitive, as it may be the tool to unlock unexpected opportunities. Above all else, let us recognise the glue that unites us a loving community where God’s presence is fully recognised and welcomed as we use all His gifts to become the people he calls us to be.
