SIXTH FORM NEWS

Hi all,

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.

We started off the week on Monday paying our respects to those who fought in the WW during Our Remembrance Service, offering us a chance to pause and reflect.

In Year 13, more UCAS Applications have been sent off and offers are being received. Congratulations on all the hard work!

The Events Committee has been working very hard to provide the Sixth Form with an ice-skating trip later on in the term; a reminder that responses need to be in by Tuesday. Keep an eye out as well for future Toilet Twinning Events!

On Friday, the Sixth Form came together for PSHCE, for a talk delivered by Shawn Atwood about his own experience of gangs and prison reform, and his subsequent career. It was an informative talk on what we can learn from the mistakes we make in life and how to overcome the challenges we will face.

Have a nice weekend,

GLOBAL NEWS

Year 13 again presented a piece on Global news to the rest of the Sixth form. Topics ranged from the US election with a fun quiz, AI in medicine and the M-pox outbreak.

BOARDING NEWS

It's been another wonderful week in boarding, and we are thrilled to see how seamlessly the girls have settled back into their routine. The transition has been smooth, and everyone is quickly finding their rhythm again. Over the past week, they have had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities that have brought plenty of joy and excitement.

One highlight was getting into the Christmas spirit early, with the girls gathering together to watch a festive film while enjoying some delicious popcorn. It was a lovely, cozy way to kick off the season and share in the holiday cheer.

Over the weekend, the girls had an absolute blast at a trampoline park, where they bounced their way through a series of fun obstacles and activities. It was the perfect way to get active and burn off some energy while having a great time together.

in store for us in boarding. There are plenty more fun events and surprises coming up, and we cannot wait to make even more wonderful memories together as Christmas approaches!

In addition, our weekly Hot Chocolate Club continues to be a firm favourite. As the weather grows colder, it's a real treat for the girls to unwind with a warm cup of hot chocolate, especially after a busy week. The comforting drink and the chance to relax with friends make it a special tradition that everyone looks forward to.

Looking ahead, we’re all eagerly anticipating the festive season and the exciting activities that lie

ANTI BULLYING WEEK

This week, we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week with a variety of engaging activities. Highlights included bracelet-making sessions during break and lunchtime, a special assembly delivered by the sixth formers for the prep school, and reading sessions with Yogi, our beloved resident therapy dog.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORKSHOP

Year 11 participated in an engaging English Language workshop yesterday. During the session, they worked together in groups to develop and improve their non writing skills, focusing on strategies relevant to helping them succeed in their upcoming GCSEs.

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

We held an assembly for Remembrance Day. The pupils took time to reflect deeply on those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as members of our CCF performed “The Last Post.” Meanwhile, other members of the CCF participated in a parade at St George's Church.

ECO NEWS

We received some absolutely fantastic entries for our #RecycleWeek competition from the Prep School. Congratulations to Penny C on her amazing winning entry! A big well done to the Eco Club for organising everything and raising awareness about recycling within our school community.

INTERHOUSE SHOW JUMPING

Two of our girls recently took part in an Inter-house show jumping competition at our equestrian centre! Both gave it their all and put their best foot forward, but Benedict claimed victory with five points. The Shrek costumes were a fantastic extra touch!

LETTER FROM CRANLEIGH FOOD BANK

We have received a letter from Cranleigh food bank thanking our school community for their generous donations from the harvest festival!

Dear Staff, Parents and Children,

On behalf of the volunteers who run the Cranleigh Food Bank, I would like to thank you so much for sending your harvest festival produce to Cranleigh Food Bank. There was a wonderful quantity, quite a lot of which was re-distributed to those in need of food last Friday.

For the past 4 months we have been using our cash reserves to buy in food as the donations we receive locally through the Sainsbury’s and Co-op boxes have nowhere near kept up with the requests received.

Now that we have yours and other harvest donations we will have a good amount in store to see us through the next few months.

Unfortunately, although we are receiving fewer requests than during and just after the pandemic, we are still receiving many more requests than prior to it.

In the year September 23 to August 24 we gave out over 1,000 parcels of food, of varying sizes depending on how many people are in the family. Each parcel feeds a family for 4-5 days. That is a lot of food!

So please pass on our heartfelt thanks to all your students, parents and staff who donated and then delivered the food to us.

Yours sincerely,

DUKE OF EDINBURGH

This Week

Bible Reading

On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.

Isaiah 25:6-9

Reflection

This week we focus on Remembrance. We remember and give thanks all those who have sacrificed their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy. We recognise the cost that many have paid for our own freedom. In this month let us pray for our loved ones who have loved and lost.

Prayer

Let us pray for all those who have died, especially those from the families of our own school community Lord, judge them kindly, welcome them into your presence, and give them peace.

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.” St Teresa of Lisieux
