On Tuesday, the Sixth Form welcomed Year 11 to our annual Student Ambassadors Event. Each of our A-Level subjects had one or more student ambassadors who answered any questions the Year 11 Students asked, provided examples of their work, and gave an overview of the course. The Catering Team also provided iced-tea and pastries for everyone afterwards!
Year 13 have also made great progress with their UCAS applications as more are sent off, and more offers received.
On Friday, the Sixth Form took part in our Enrichment Scheme. We were able to choose a session we wanted to attend. These included a Morality and Ethics session on ‘Santa, The Tooth Fairy, and The Easter Bunny’, a Study Skills session, a talk on Positive Psychology, along with a Self Motivation and Confidence session.
Have a lovely weekend, Amelia
YEAR 13 GEOGRAPHY TRIP
The Year 13 geography students have been to Somerset to take part in a course focusing on their NEA this week. The students stayed at the Field Studies Council centre at Nettlecombe Court - an Elizabethan Manor and Church. The students learned more about the fieldwork investigation process and visited Minehead and Porlock Bay to investigate place and coastal processes and management. They were joined by 5 other school groups from a variety of locations in England.
BOARDING NEWS
This week boarding has been filled with exciting activities and festive fun. The girls kicked off the weekend with a trip to Kingston, where they enjoyed shopping and indulging in some delicious food. They returned with plenty of treats and souvenirs, having had a fantastic day out.
On Sunday, Harrison's catering team treated the girls to a delightful afternoon tea featuring scones, jam, cake, and fresh fruit – a real hit with everyone. The girls also got into the holiday spirit by setting up and decorating the Christmas trees in boarding, creating a wonderful festive atmosphere together. To top off the week's Christmas celebrations, the girls decorated festive-themed cookies, which turned out beautifully and were of course enjoyed by all.
We are looking forward to the weeks ahead, filled with more fun activities for the girls!
SPANISH TRIP TO THE BFI
Last Friday, the Spanish department at St Teresa’s Effingham had the pleasure of taking our students to the BFI (British Film Institute) in London for an insightful workshop centred around Volver, a celebrated film by renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar.
The workshop provided an engaging experience where students delved into the distinct characteristics of Almodóvar’s auteur cinema, exploring themes that make his work unique. They learned about his extensive filmography, the recurring motifs in his storytelling, and gained a better understanding of his life and the personal experiences that influence his work.
The day was both educational and inspiring, giving students a deeper appreciation for Spanish cinema and the distinctive style of Almodóvar. It sparked thoughtful discussions and broadened their understanding of film as an art form.

This Week
This Week we start looking at a number of Saints that are honoured and important across the Trust. This week we turn our attention to St Ignatius of Loyola, the famous 16th Century Spanish saint. We focused on three key features of his work. Firstly, we recalled that while he had a promising career as a soldier before him, a sever injury - by a cannonball no less - mean that Ignatius spent an enforced year recovering, during which time he read, reflected, prayed, wrote and began to recognise his call to be a warrior for Christ. His experience reminds us that however painful an experience, we are always encouraged to see such events as possible opportunities where God is providing for us an opening to a new direction. Ignatius, along with a group of similarly minded friends, founded the Society of Jesus, now known by their more popular name as the Jesuits. We were reminded that God rarely calls us to work in isolation. God calls us to be community, and to act as community. It is reassuring that our value this year across the Trust is Community. Let us encourage each other to act as a community.
May St Ignatius continue to encourage and inspire us in our journey through life.
