CRA developed and delivered a three-day EHS awareness training course for a global manufacturing company. The course, for the EHS managers from the company’s facilities worldwide, was held at a factory in Germany, to provide a suitable location for practical exercises. The objective of the course was to improve the ability of the participants to identify and manage EHS risks in the workplace. The company’s human resources team had conducted a survey of EHS staff, which concluded that there was a need to increase competence from the level of possessing knowledge to proficiency in EHS management. The training course therefore had to more than simply deliver information, and so it was designed to provide practical tuition in a range of EHS topics. The course included modules on EHS drivers, the company’s commitments to EHS, and the application of management systems to improve EHS performance. It also provided guidance in over 30 EHS topics, ranging from waste management and noise to working at height and ergonomics. It included a series of practical exercises in hazard identification, with the participants working in groups in assigned areas of the factory. Cameras were used to record hazards and provide the basis for feedback sessions, in which participants discussed the adequacy of risk management measures. The course also addressed techniques for influencing behaviour, with the trainers and participants working through a number of role-playing scenarios.
