CRA supported a major international aerospace manufacturing company with updating its global database of chemicals. This project involved standardising the already available information, expanding the existing database to include sites in all countries and adding the necessary information needed for the company to more effectively comply with the European REACH Regulations. As a minimum, it is essential to identify and have readily available all the applicable information relevant to a client’s activities that involve chemicals. Clear explanations concerning the properties and characteristics of a chemical and each chemical formulation have to be provided in order to comply with the European REACH Regulations and to support local and remotely based staff. Working as an integral part of the company’s project team, a CRA consultant was based at the client’s UK head office for several months to support their corporate health and safety and REACH teams. CRAs role within the project team involved;
Standardising the previously held information into the same format for use in a database Adding to the database additional chemicals used at client sites in several other countries (and languages). Adding further information to existing data entries for chemicals, including PC, PROC and ERC codes based on their usage, in line with EU REACH requirements, as well as key ingredient and supplier information. Pin-pointing the location of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) for a variety of chemicals, both current and historic, used by the client company.
