Our main campus, located next to Aireville Park, has stunning views across the town to the countryside beyond. Here you will find our School of Art, Media and Performance which has an established reputation for excellence. Courses are taught in specialist studios and workshops including; spacious drawing and painting and textiles studios; a well equipped metalwork and jewellery workshop; graphic design, sound, video and digital animation editing suites equipped with industry standard software; our own radio station; a photography studio along with a performance space and theatrical & media make-up workshop.

All our aviation related degree programmes are delivered at our prestigious air-side campus at the Leeds Bradford International Airport so that you can experience the industry at first hand. Because we carry out training for the aviation industry we are always up-to-date in what we do and you will benefit from this. Our tutors have been recruited from the industry too and will be able to guide you towards your career aspirations through their wealth of experience and contacts. You can even take flying lessons with one of our partner organisations as one of the many benefits of the location.

Centre for Rural and Equine Studies Auction Mart, Skipton

Set in the heart of Skipton is the original college building. This is our Centre for Service Industries, housing catering, hospitality, hair and beauty courses.

Just a short walk from the Aireville Campus is the centre where we deliver academic sessions and practical skills relating to our land based degree programmes. Situated in the centre of Skiptonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Auction Mart complex, this campus benefits from the close contact with the agricultural businesses based there. There is an extensive horticulture unit and a garden design studio; fully equipped mechanics workshops and a purpose built equestrian centre. Teaching areas are well equipped with IT facilities.

We operate commercial salons and the Brasserie restaurant so our students can experience what it is like to apply their practical skills in a real working environment and understand issues around running a business. As an additional bonus any student can use these facilities.

Centre for Construction and Heritage Skills Airedale Business Park, Snaygill, Skipton This is our newest campus and is designed to deliver both contemporary and traditional craft skills. In addition to the well equipped workshops for practical construction skills training there are purpose built heritage workshops for blacksmithing, forge work, stone carving and stained glass making. There is a state of the art materials testing laboratory and IT facilities.

The Environment Our local environment is part of our campus and we try to integrate its resources, along with local know-how, to enrich our student experience. We make extensive use of the rich and varied environments and habitats of the Yorkshire Dales for our environmental and countryside related courses. Business students get involved in local market research activities. Horticulture and garden design students have been part of the medal winning teams at the prestigious RHS shows in Harrogate. The caring related courses are closely informed by our relationship with the Airedale NHS Trust: whilst environmental conservation benefits greatly from proximity to the Yorkshire Dales.

Student Life in Skipton Skipton has something for everyone. Situated at the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with its stunning limestone scenery and open countryside Skipton has a holiday town feel with a great mix of shops, restaurants, cafés, bars and places to visit on and around its award winning High Street.

From Skipton, you can explore some of Britain’s greatest breathing spaces; the Nationals Parks of the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, and Lake District where you can participate in extreme sports such as rock climbing, pot holing and mountain biking or just take a leisurely stroll. The vibrant cities of Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester offering clubs, concerts, festivals and galleries are only an hour or so away by road or rail. Skipton train station has through trains to King’s Cross – you can be in London in under three hours. Leeds Bradford International Airport is less than 20 miles away.

The Leeds Liverpool Canal runs through Skipton. You can go on boat trips or hire barges for special celebrations or long weekends; there are footpaths and picnic areas and in the Marina you’ll find a great place to relax – overlooked by the statue of cricketing legend Fred Trueman.

Skipton and nearby picturesque villages also boast a number of venues and host a range local and national events throughout the year. Counselling

Students who are unsure about careers or employment opportunities can make an appointment to see the Student Services Manager or contact the Careers Co-ordinator on 01756 698 008 to arrange an appointment.

A free, confidential counselling service is available to any student who may need help, advice or support regarding a personal problem or difficulty that might interfere with studies. Study Support

Accommodation The college does not have direct access to student accommodation however Student Services can supply a list of local letting agents and accommodation providers. Childcare Help with funding childcare may be available; full-time students should contact Student Finance England. Part-time students may be able to apply for a contribution and should ask Student Services for information about funding.

The college recognises that starting a degree course may be a big step and with this in mind is keen to support students with a wide range of academic and pastoral support mechanisms. Tutorial support can help with day to day queries, in addition many courses offer on-line resources to help students working from home. Class sizes at the college tend to be smaller than those you might find at a larger institution giving you more opportunities for individual attention.

Student Voice Craven College aims to continually improve our service to students so it is essential that we collect and act on student feedback. Students have numerous opportunities to give their views, from questionnaires, focus groups and spot surveys on particular issue. We encourage active participation in course team meetings and management meetings through a system of course representatives. Students also are involved in validating new degrees and giving feedback to the Quality Assurance Agency. So at every level you have the opportunity to make your individual views heard. Student Volunteering Programme Employers are looking for people who not only have good qualifications but experience of a working environment. Funding Part-time HE Courses

Extra Financial Help

At the time of going to press we understand that eligible part-time students who start their degree from September 2013 will have access to loans for tuition costs and will not have to pay up-front, as long as it’s their first degree and they are studying for at least 25% of a full-time programme. Further information about what is available and how to apply will be available on www.direct.gov.uk or from Student Finance England: 0845 300 50 90.

If you get into financial difficulties while studying, or find yourself facing extra costs in completing your course, then help may be available from the college’s or our partner university’s Access to Learning Fund. You should apply to Student Services on 01756 708 008.

Full-time Students The Government will lend any eligible student the money to pay the university or college tuition costs (at the time of going to print). Students from families with incomes of up to £25,000 will be entitled to a more generous student maintenance grant of up to £3,250 and those from families with incomes up to £42,600 will be entitled to a partial grant. Maintenance loans will be available to all eligible full-time students, irrespective of income. Further information about what is available and how to apply will be available on www.direct.gov.uk or from Student Finance England on 0845 300 50 90. Disabled Students’ Allowance The Disabled Students’ Allowance is a grant to help with the extra costs a full or part-time student may face as the direct result of a disability (including an ongoing health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia). The amount you can get isn’t affected by your household income, and the allowances do not have to be repaid.

Degree Level Qualifications Explained Foundation Degree Level 5 – 240 credits

HNC & HND

A Foundation Degree combines both academic and vocational skills. The full-time route is studied over two years. Part-time options are usually over three years.

If you have already achieved an HNC or HND you may be able to use the credit from these to move on to a Foundation Degree or BA top-up. If you are unsure about this do come and ask us for advice.

A completed Foundation Degree (240 credits) is the equivalent to the first two years of an Honours degree which are normally packaged into 20 credit modules. In this way you build and accumulate credits towards the final degree. After completing the Foundation Degree you can enter or continue in employment or choose a top-up degree to achieve a full degree.

This pre-degree level course is designed for mature students with the life skills but without formal qualifications to enable entry into higher education. It is also suitable for mature students who already have the qualifications for entry into higher education but who wish to refresh their skills and knowledge in preparation for studying at another level.

Animal Welfare & Management Fd Level 5 Validated by York St John University – Full-time 2 years, part-time 3 years

Course Description

Entry Requirements

This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of animal management to equip you with the necessary knowledge to assess the welfare needs of animals. It enables you to acquire practical animal management skills and devise appropriate management strategies pertinent to the animal sector. It focuses on the health and welfare aspects of animal management plus employment in the ancillary industries. The course is general but does allow the development of an interest in a particular species or niche area in the industry. The recently extended facilities include housing for a range of species including reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, small mammals and birds. The dog grooming facilities and the equine unit give you access to larger mammals. The college also has the advantage of being set in an auction mart allowing students to experience sheepdog and livestock sales.

The Aviation Academy

The Aireville Campus is situated just off the Skipton bypass and is adjacent to Aireville Park. The campus has limited permit controlled car parking and is located on a service bus route into Skipton. The railway station is approximately a fifteen minute walk from the campus through Aireville Park.

The Aviation Academy is based airside at Leeds Bradford International Airport and has parking available. For directions to the Aviation Academy call 0113 391 0919.

Auction Mart Campus The Centre for Rural and Equine Studies, the Academy of Sports Therapy and the Tourism First Centre are at the Auction Mart Campus next to the Aireville Campus. The site has parking available and is on a bus route in and out of Skipton.

Construction and Heritage The Centre for Construction and Heritage Skills is based at Airedale Business Park at Snaygill on Keighley Road. Academy of Hair and Beauty The Academy of Hair and Beauty is just a few minutes walk from the High Street and is adjacent to a large pay and display car park.
