firms where I gained international experience working on Commercial and Cultural projects in Europe. I also did various internishps in Berlin mastering my knowledge in Educational and Renovation projects as well as Interior Design. My educational background is based in a large scope of architectural scales, which means I am very versatile and am capable of developing masterplans as well as small scale projects like single family housing and interior design with great detail. In my studies I also aquired the knowledge of detailing any kind of project I was developing being capable of understanding the fundamentals of it’s tectonics (1:5 scale). I finished my master studies with a theoretical research theses which gave me a great sense of the importance of deep research as the foundation to a good project. I come from a position as the lead Architect in some of Arrow Architects’ competitions and research projects. I am used to participate in the conceptual phases of the project as well as the construction phases. I worked on sustainable urban developments and commercial buildings with great sense of detail. I also developed most of the project’s presentations having an overall insight of each project and emphacizing them graphically through diagrams and animated elements. Recently I have been working on a large scale waterfront development in Nigeria and a 120.000m2 large sustainable city district in Sweden that incorporates facilities for both the nearby University and housing district. In parallel I helped developing several internal office processes such as Masterplan Scope and Campus Criterias which were used as quality insurance when developing projects.

The new masterplan for Ilulissat

The Market Harbor

GREENLAND MIGRATING.: HENNING LARSEN .: INES SOUSA

The Sports Plaza

Greenland Migrating

Ilulissat Masterplan, Greenland Henning Larsen + David Garcia Studio + KITAA 13th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice ILULISSAT THE AGGREGATED TOWN When debating the future of Greenland, migration is high on the agenda. Tourism, mining and mineral exploration can cause a migration flow that might turn the Greenlandic population into a minority in their own country. The project investigates the historic, dynamic urban development of Greenland and creates new aggregating structures that facilitate the meeting between different groups of people in the cities: Greenlanders, tourists, workers, students etc. The project proposes an alternative masterplan for the Greenlandic town of Ilulissat. Capitalising on density and the migrating community, whether it is for a day, a season or a lifetime, the strategy aims to promote the ‘meeting’ between people as a resource for growth and economic sustainability. Four interventions are suggested - where architecture can be the catalyst for the ‘meeting’ and a more cohesive Ilulissat. It is the present and future Greenlanders, where ever they may come from, who will eventually form the Ilulissat of tomorrow. The four suggested interventions are a multi-purpose Culture Centre, a market and temporary housing along the harbour, a sports plaza allowing for activities to take place all year round and a new meeting hub in the Ilulissat Ice Fjord - comprising a new UNESCO office, a tourist information centre and spaces for the new Faculty of Glacial Studies. Head curator, the internationally renowned Danish-Greenlandic Professor in geology, Minik Rosing, and co-curator NORD Architects Copenhagen, have worked together with six teams of architects, engineers, planners and ethnologists from Denmark and Greenland. They have developed a number of scenarios that will contribute to a broader debate in Greenland and also be an invitation to the rest of the world to contribute to a sustainable development of the country. The exhibition at the Danish pavilion provides a spectacular experience of ’Greenlandicness’ through models, images, visualisations, text, film and artifacts. In different scenarios of the future, the exhibition ‘Possible Greenland’ explores the main challenges and opportunities faced by Greenland.

1.MARKET HARBOR

2 CULTURE CENTER

Lack of housing is almost endemic in Greenland. Waiting lists for housing in Ilulissat alone is in the order of five years. If considering the future work migration and the town‘s wish to grow and attract young people, temporary housing is crucial for the area.

Tourism is a vital economic life line to Ilulissat. From the one-day cruise ship tourists during the summer to longer visits by tourists wishing to enjoy the spectacular scenery, tourism also has a large influence on the town‘s resources and infrastructure.

Until now, the harbour has been an area closely connected to the sea, and fishing was the traditional connection to the rest of the world. We propose to establish a market for locals and visitors next to the fishing harbour. Adding to this, we suggest temporary housing for workers and students to be integrated in the market plaza, along the harbour edge - an undeveloped area full of potential. Locals, tourists, students and workers from abroad could enliven this otherwise forgotten area close to the centre of Ilulissat.

One of the largest challenges is to establish a considerate meeting between the local culture and the visitor. Next to the existing school, in the centre of Ilulissat, we propose to establish a multi-purpose Culture Centre where citizens can meet for local events - with the nursing home as an integrated part of the building. Thus, the cultural scene is expanded with new exhibition spaces and a main library.

GREENLAND MIGRATING.: HENNING LARSEN .: INES SOUSA

Our hope is for the Cultural Centre to become the point of rotation in the town centre, attracting locals as well as visitors, the young and the elderly - a place where local culture can be shared across generations and continents.

3.SPORTS PLAZA

4.ARCTIC HUB

Hunting, dog sledding, fishing and sports in general are everyday activities in Ilulissat. All generations engage with nature and sports, albeit the harsh climatic conditions in winter. However, the infrastructure and facilities cannot meet the needs of the population and often youngsters have to stay up late, awaiting their turn to use the overcrowded indoor facilities.

Student migration in Greenland is a serious national concern. Often, young students go abroad to pursue their studies and do not come back. This is largely due to lack of higher education programmes in Greenland that can compete with international curriculums.

At the heart of the town, the outdoor football field and the sports hall share one of the main streets in Ilulissat as arrival. Capitalising on the long tradition of sports and outdoor activities in the local community, we propose to develop a sports plaza in this location. A flexible cover will protect the football field from the elements in winter, allowing for sports activities to take place all year round. The street will become an arena for sports events, from the annual sled dog race in winter to football competitions during summer. The aim is to create a street of activity running through the entire town of Ilulissat - with a focus on sports and fitness.

On the way to the Ilulissat Ice Fjord, a UNESCO world heritage site visited by tourists and locals alike, we propose to establish a new meeting hub. Aiming to enhance the encounter between students, locals and tourists, the Glacial Hub will offer a new UNESCO office, a tourist information centre and spaces for the new Faculty of Glacial Studies. The purpose is to attract students from Greenland and abroad to a unique study programme, only offered in Ilulissat. In this way, the new hub aims to enhance the cultural and educational possibilities in town, using the Ice Fjord as the main attractor.

Codan‘s New Head Office

25 000 m2 , Copenhagen C. F. Møller 1rst Prize Competition Client: Steen & Strøm Danmark A/S NEW HEADQUARTERS Cooperation across departments has been the key focus of the proposal for a new head office for the Codan insurance company in Ørestaden. Codan’s ambition to create a working environment that focuses on opportunities to work across departments is fulfilled by placing the interior spaces of the new head office building around a large, glass-covered atrium with balconies at different levels, as well as open stairways. The varying levels of the balconies create visual contact between the different storeys, and the interconnected stairways and rooms around the atrium are perfect for informal meetings, bringing employees from the different floors together in a natural way. The building’s side wings house open-plan offices where the individual employee’s need for peace and quiet and professional interaction is ensured by grouping desks behind discreet screens. In the lowest area of the atrium lies the call centre, extending from the other shared functions such as the foyer, canteen and café area. The call centre’s central location is in line with Codan’s idea to emphasise contact with customers and allow the energy-loaded atmosphere in the call centre to permeate the rest of the building. In this sense, the atrium also promotes dynamic professional interaction throughout the building. The new head office is located in a modern urban context, with optimum relations with the surrounding infrastructure. With just 200 metres to the Metro and train station, and direct access to the motorway, there are rapid connections to Copenhagen City, Copenhagen Airport, or Malmö (Sweden).

SUSTAINABLE FASHION Thekey.to is an international event for green fashion, sustainable lifestyle and culture in Berlin. It brings together twice a year, the most innovative and contemporary brands of the international green fashion and design scene, brands at the leading edge in terms of successfully merging style and a responsible approach. The role of architecture in this event is crucial to make it a success. The building is an old factory that has long open spaces giving the natural feeling of a route and its organization needs to intensify this feature, since the theme for this year was acceleration. By organizing the stands in a longitudinal way, taking advantage of the natural light and playing with the translucent cardboard materials, the atmosphere of the event resulted in a fluid and intensive experience. Each stand had its personal custom-made eco furniture, which made the architectural design a perfect symbiosis for this event. The event is organized in two main spaces : the Bakery, with smaller stands, 2x2 meters , and more afordable fashion; the Magazin, with bigger stands , 3x3 meters, and high fashion items. There is also an Art exhibition space and a Lounge Cafe. The main materials use in the design are cardboard in different shapes, colors and opacities. The stands are made with a compact cardboard frame and the interior surface made of translucent cardboard. The backery stands are supported by a metal frame. The Magazin stands are suspense by metalic strings. The furniture is also designed mostly with cardboard and metalic suports. We also incorporated industrial trolleys for clothes exhibitors and tables. All of the stands and furniture were assembled by the designers and events team.

The proposal area is delimited by two public buildings that re-qualified this urban site: Casa da Música (Rem Koolhaas) and Casa da Música Metro Station (Souto de Moura). The urban restructuration aim is to counterbalance the strength of the iconic building in search of the reestablishment of the existing harmony that was broken by its strong volumetric presence.
