Come Plant A Seed Courtney Rose McQueen

I got a project today in school. To plant this seed, isn't that cool?

My teacher in class explained to me, that it will grow to be a tree.

She said...

It starts with just a seed so small, and doesn't seem like much at all.

But if it grew big enough it would produce a great amount of wood.

Wood is made from a tree! That was a big surprise to me. Trees can make the things we use. Now that is some exciting news!

So come plant this seed with me and let's see the possibilities.

What type of tree will we see? I wonder what it could be.

What could grow up from the ground? There's so much fun to be found.

Will the tree sprout a pencil so we can trace my stencil?

It might be the color green like the leaves that we have seen.

If we take a closer look, we might find a fresh notebook.

With paper we could use for art; that would be a helpful start.

I hear a song inside the ground. What could make that lovely sound?

Do you know what's in this seed? It's a guitar and not a weed!

Or could it be some drums we've found? Now there is music all around.

We could have a marching band! Just put that tree trunk in your hand.

A tree can give us syrup to eat, for our pancakes to make them sweet.

We can have some when it grows, here for breakfast I suppose.

How long will this tree seed take? We need to investigate.

Tomorrow morning comes real quick. It won't be ready I predict.

I know what this tree could be! Hockey sticks for you and me.

We could go to the skating rink. I would score before you blink.

What if it's a baseball bat? Better get your glove and hat!

Let's go to the field for fun. Then I would get the first home run.

Did you know that wood can float? It does when I use my boat.

My dad had a special tree. He carved the boat out just for me.

Remember when we played outside? He built the wagon we love to ride.

I bet that came from a tree too. Look at all this seed can do.

My grandma has a rocking chair. She sits in it to brush her hair.

It's made of wood from a tree. Is that the kind your seed will be?

Don't know how this seed will rise. A table could grow before our eyes.

Maybe it will match her chair. They would make a wooden pair.

We could plant more than one seed, and grow a lot of trees indeed.

We'd build a cabin out of logs, by the lake with lots of frogs.

We could go get my dog Nell, and build her a house as well.

That would be very useful indeed, if one of those came from this seed.

I wish I had a seed to sow, and get some things I like to grow.

Whatever this seed makes in the end, we can share because we're friends.

Can you name three things that are made from wood? What type of tree do you want to plant? How long will it take your seed to grow?
