13th September, 2016 Reflection Prayer of St Anselm O Lord my God Teach my heart this day where and how to find you. You have made me and re-made me, and you have bestowed on me all the good things I possess, and still I do not know you. I have not yet done that for which I was made. Teach me to seek you, for I cannot seek you unless you teach me, or find you unless you show yourself to me. Let me seek you in my desire; let me desire you in my seeking. Let me find you by loving you; let me love you when I find you. Amen

Dear Parents and Students, This week signals the end of Term 3 and the students are no doubt looking forward to the holidays. For the staff the holidays will be a time to recharge the batteries after what has been a very busy and eventful term. We have recently held our election for 2017 student leaders . In a tightly run contest, our College Captains for 2017 are Fernando Rios-Rodriguez and Athyang Akec. We congratulate them both and look forward to working with them. Other student positions will be finalised by the end of the week.

Many of you had the opportunity to witness and listen to the talents of our students in the production of Grease early this term. Each of the sold out performances saw the best of our students at work, whether that be on stage, behind stage or working the lighting and sound. It was especially exciting because it was our first large scale production in our Performing Arts Centre. Later in the term we hosted our Out of Africa evening to celebrate the diversity and richness of our school community. The students, with parents and staff prepared and served food from different countries of Africa. We were then entertained by dancers and an African drummer. It was a night filled with laughter, stories and pride. For the Unit 3 & 4 students the holiday break will not be a time of sitting back and putting their feet up. The students will face practice exams during the holidays. This will be a good opportunity for them to sit the exams under exam conditions and allow them to make some judgment as to their levels of understanding across the subjects. It will also assist them in determining how they spend their remaining weeks at school during the revision program. For the students who have been well prepared and worked consistently throughout the year the exams should be approached with some confidence. For the students who have had an inconsistent approach through the year all is not lost, significant gains can be made in the remaining weeks with a concerted effort. For parents of the students it will also be a time of anxiety and hope. We advise parents to be there and provide reassurance to your son and daughter when needed. We wish them well.

Karate News

Sunday 4th September was a very proud day for not only myself as Sensei, but also for the students at CRC Melton’s Karate Dojo and for the College Community. After a lot of hard work, perseverance, dedication and determination, Dylan Kremers (Year 12) was awarded his black belt after a long and challenging grading. Dylan is CRC Melton’s first karate student to receive the rank of black belt. He has shown true karateka spirit in the lead up to his grading and has demonstrated the knowledge, capabilities and necessary qualities of a true black belt. For parents who are unaware, our hours of operation are 3.45pm-4.45pm Junior Class and 4.45-6.00pm Seniors in the College Hall every Tuesday and Friday. New students are always welcome, primary/secondary students and parents also can come along and try a free class. Please call 0407 830 435 if you would like further information about our classes. Congratulations again Dylan, we are all very proud of you. This is only the beginning of your journey! Sensei James Sghendo
