17th May, 2016 Reflection The Spirit of Pentecost We beseech you, O Lord, let the power of the Holy Spirit be always with us; let it mercifully purify our hearts, and safeguard us from all harm. Grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Dear Parents and Students, Thanks to Frs Brian, Michael, Charles and John-Paul for welcoming us into their Churches as we went back to the Parishes for morning Mass to start Celebration Day. At St. Catherine’s the local Choir added an uplifting tone to the Liturgy and all 600 students present were very respectful of the occasion. On Monday, I spoke to all students about their responsibilities as members of the CRC Melton community. In particular, I reinforced the following aspects of our Welfare policy: 1. 2.

3.

All students should wear their school uniform with pride, and be punctual to school and class. There are only 180 days of school each year and they are all important. Wearing the College uniform well means that students have pride in the school. All students should respect the authority of their teachers at all times. Each student will know several teachers well, others they won’t know their name. It doesn’t matter when it comes to accepting the authority of the teacher on the yard, for example, if a teacher asks a student to pick up some litter, or refrain from certain behaviour then do it without question. All students should respect other students at CRC Melton. Students should not engage in any negative behaviour towards other students verbally, physically or via social media. If someone is giving you a hard time, tell a teacher. Please re-read my comments on Social Media from the Parents Newsletter on April 19 hard copies are available in the YLCs office.

Year 11 students will undertake VCE Unit 1 exams and Year 10 students Semester 1 exams from Wednesday, June 8 to Friday, June 17.      

All Year 10 & 11 exams will take place in the Padua Exam centre. Students are only required at school when they have exams. Supervised study rooms will operate for students who need or wish to be at school during non-exam periods. Students will be expected to wear full College uniform when present for exams. Students need to be at the College at least 15 minutes before the published starting times to ensure smooth entry into the exam venues. Friday, June 17 is allocated as a catch up day for any students who need to complete a missed exam or not completed Subject Outcome.

All Year 10 & 11 students have been given a copy of the exam schedule which appears on Page 3. A number of parents and staff have seen the new Uniform samples in the Office. The timeline for feedback for these samples is Wednesday, 25th May. Mark Sheehan Principal

Parents & Friends There will be a Parent & Friends meeting on Wednesday 25th May at 7.30pm

News from Deputy Principal (Staff) This week truly illustrates the opportunities that CRC Melton students have access to. Today we have the College’s annual Celebration Day where all students returned to their local parishes for a morning Mass, followed by an afternoon of activities (rides, footy challenge, inflatables castles, banner making, community groups information, BBQ, and performance / dance). This is our major fundraising day to support our College Charities (e.g. Br Beausang - Kenya) and our student / family support is always outstanding. On Wednesday we have Year 9 Outdoor Ed Camps; Year 7 Premier League Sport; a Year 9 & 10 Drama Excursion and our Year 10 Geography Camp commences. On Thursday, not only do our camps continue but our Year 10 – 12 students have AFL & Netball games against other SACCSS schools and our Biennial Careers Expo Day. Finally on Friday Senior Girls Soccer, a Year 11 Biology Excursion, a Year 9 Western Cluster Trade Tasting day and a Practice GAT for our Year 12 students. These student opportunities help to develop the Holistic character of our students and alongside their Academic program equip them to play key roles in society. As all parents of bus travellers from Bacchus Marsh / Darley would be aware we have been trialing a new bus schedule to ease overload problems on some buses. Bacchus Marsh Coaches and the College have noted family concerns associated with the new schedule and in response have now designed updated route schedules. Copies of the updated run sheets for the six school bus services from Bacchus Marsh to Melton have been sent to parents via CareMonkey. If you require a paper copy of these please have your child come to Reception. The main changes are as follows:  Hopetoun Park service now has a pick-up in Hillview saving these students having to rely on the route service bus to get them to a location to meet the CRC service.  The times of the Darley bus have been brought back so it is leaving Bacchus Marsh at the same time as the other services as opposed to 20 minutes later. This bus has had the Gisborne Rd stop taken off it and put on to the Long Forest Road service to create greater capacity for Darley students.  The Darley and Golf Links services will arrive at Darley Park at the same time with the Golf Links service being a backup only for the Darley service should it overload, however this shouldn’t now happen.  The Long Forest Road service will now pick up the 15-18 students at the church in Gisborne Road.  Toolern Vale and Underbank services are essentially unchanged at the moment. Essentially all the current stops are being serviced but they may have moved from one route to another. The only new stop is the Hillview Estate stop on the Hopetoun Park Service. Please note that these changes will start next Monday (23rd May).

We continue to value your feedback as we work towards a service that provides safe and appropriate transport for all CRC Melton students. We urge families to use the service designed for them and not have students overload buses on other routes. Our long term goal is to have another bus service added to Bacchus Marsh but this is reliant upon PTV being presented with data showing that the current buses are operating at capacity. Students must use their Myki cards when travelling as this generates Bus usage numbers. In regard to ‘Country Bus Travellers’, the School has forwarded the ‘Eligible to Travel’ Bus forms to Melton Secondary College for the students travelling from Toolern Vale, Rockbank and Eynesbury/Strathtulloch. Any students that have not completed a form either this year or last year should inform the office.

News from Acting Deputy Principal (Students)

Laura Grech (Student Leadership Coordinator), Shaun Coates (Religious Education Coordinator) and the Student leaders have done a fantastic job putting together our Celebration Day Program. It was a great way for our students to return back to their Parish and celebrate Mass together. Any student absent from Celebration Day without informing the front office will need a follow-up note from home. Full school photos are scheduled for Thursday, 26 May. Ordering of photos will be done online. Details as to how to order photos have been given to each student last week. The photographer Arthur Reed Photos will also provide the opportunity for family photos. Students will be required to wear full winter uniform for the photos, if a student has PE or related activity they will need to bring their PE uniform to school and change from their uniform. Students who will/ may be absent on the 26th will have the opportunity to have their photo taken at the catch up day on June 2. Please reinforce with your children that winter uniform requires the Blazer to be the outer garment to and from school. Pauline Jackobovic and the Careers Team have put in an enormous amount of work to organise the Careers Expo and Seminar Programs this Thursday for all our Year 10, 11 and 12 Students. Lydia Fus Acting Deputy Principal (Students)

Year 9 Drama Non-Naturalistic Performance Night This semester's Year 9 drama class will be performing on Wednesday the 25th of May at 6:00pm in the Performing Arts Centre at the College. The plays will be non-naturalistic in style with students exploring transformation of character, prop, time and place. All performances have been inspired by the following stimuli: ‘To Sleep, Perchance to Dream’ or ‘Humans, Machines and Technology’. The performance night is a free event! If you would like to come along to enjoy an evening of theatre, we would love to have you in our audience. Year 10 Group Dance On Friday 13th May, the Year 10 Dance students performed their group dances as part of their assessment task. The girls worked extremely hard on their task and incorporated the theme of 'bullying' as their stimulus. Great job girls the audience were very moved. Ashlee Hughes

Year 9 Dance The Year 9 Dance students performed a piece from the 'Hairspray Musical' taught by Miss Hughes. This task was assessed, performed in front of 60 students and was performed with high energy and enthusiasm. Keep up the hard work girls. Ashlee Hughes

F.A.S.T Year 12 Studio Art Students Once again the Year 12 students have had a terrific excursion to several art galleries. This was the 3rd and final excursion for our studio art students. This time they attended F.A.S.T (Fitzroy, Art, Spaces, Tour). Students walked around Fitzroy with a guide from gallery to gallery, starting with ‘the Centre for Contemporary Photography’. Students visited ‘Dianne Tanzer’, a privately owned commercial gallery which was an interesting and informative experience. Students had lunch in a park and then they continued to walk to ‘Seventh’ (an artist ran space); Gertrude St Contemporary gallery and finally they visited an artist in residence studio which is part of the Gertrude facility.

Languages News We are pleased to announce that we have 5 girls accompanied by a male teacher arriving at our school on Monday 18th July until Thursday 11th August from our sister school, Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono in Udine, North of Italy. We are asking for families who would like to host a student to please email Mrs. Claudia Russo crusso@crcmelton.com.au as soon as possible. This would be a great opportunity for your families to learn a foreign language and acquire some knowledge about Italy as well. Thanks so much for your support in advance. On Wednesday 22nd June all Year 8 students are attending a Languages excursion. Students studying Italian will visit the Calabria Club in Bulla and the Indonesian students will travel to the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Please ensure that you have accepted the permission letter via Care Monkey by 25/5/2016 to ensure your child's attendance on this day. Thank you, the Languages Team.
