20th May, 2014 Reflection Hear his voice, ‘I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe. I have come so that you may have life, and have it to the full.’ John 10:1-10 In an interview last year, Pope Francis asked, ‘How are we treating the people of God?’ He answers his own question: ‘I dream of a church that is a mother and a shepherdess. The church’s ministers must be merciful, take responsibility for the people and accompany them like the Good Samaritan, who washes, cleans and raises up his neighbour. This is pure Gospel.’

Celebration Day

College Masterplan

Staff and students came together in what was a terrific Celebration Day for the College in it’s 35th year since inception in 1980.

Parents are invited to have input into our College Masterplan by attending an upcoming meeting of the Parents and Friends to be held on Wednesday May 28 starting at 7pm.

Special thanks to Laura Grech and the Student leaders who did an enormous amount of work in both preparation and coordinating activities for the day. We started with Mass with our local parishes, so an acknowledgement to Fr Michael, Fr Brian and Fr Fabian for hosting us on their turf. (Welcome back to Fr Fabian after sabbatical). The pictures below tell a story of the day!

If you can't make the meeting but would like to have an input, the College Masterplan is available for viewing in the school foyer or on the College website. Parents can email comments to the school at: principal@crcmelton.com.au Mark Sheehan Principal

Parents & Friends The next meeting of the Parents & Friends will be held on Wednesday 28th May at 7.00pm.

City of Melton Junior Council Over the last term, Brody and myself have been invited to join the Melton Youth Council in monthly meetings with members of the Melton Shire to discuss about our town and where it is heading in the near future. From prior meetings we have helped select areas that are in need of youth centres because of recent growth and development; we also have discussed tourism, health care and beautification within our local community. The idea of participating in these meetings is that we present ideas that would appeal to the youth and give members of the Melton Shire an insight into what is occurring in our community. Students Contacting Parents If students are feeling unwell at school and feel the need to go home, they need to come to the main office so that office staff can contact the parents. Some students are taking it upon themselves to ring home using their own phone before informing the office. For our attendance records students need to report to the office if going home early. It will be the office staff that will make the contact with the parent/guardian. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal-Students

VCE Dance

Asthma

On Tuesday 13th May the VCE dance students performed their group ensembles as part of their Outcome 2.

The College is currently reviewing Management and Action Plans for students diagnosed with Asthma. Parents with Children diagnosed with Asthma that do not receive a letter from the school are asked to please contact the office. Parents please see information below from the Asthma Foundation Victoria.

Over the last 4 weeks the students had been working on these performances and had to create a 2:30 minute piece that conveyed a message or story. The students worked extremely hard to perfect all dance moves and convey the expressive intention of their dance, giving up many of their lunchtimes to rehearse. The students were well supported by the school with over 250 students and teachers attending. Ashlee Hughes VCE Dance Teacher

Drama Ensemble Performances Year 11 and 12 Drama students presented their Ensemble Performances within the Drama Studio at CRC Melton, during week four of Term 2. It was fabulous to see so many staff, students, family and members of the College community in attendance, supporting the Performing Arts faculty. The VCE Drama class is to be congratulated on delivering such focused and high energy performances that truly allowed them to engage with their audience. Clare O’Sullivan
