23rd June, 2015 Reflection A prayer for when we are tired O Lord when we are weary, give us the ability to learn from you. You found the need to be alone, the need for rest. Help us to make time for rest, relaxation and time with friends. Let us also feel a desire to rest in you and to talk with you and to just allow you to restore us. O God, if Jesus needed time to rest and be with you, then how much more must we? I pray and trust that we all may find rest in you. AMEN.

End of Semester One

Last week of Term 2

I take the opportunity, as Semester One draws to a close, to thank all staff for their care of our students and commitment to assisting them achieve their personal best in their studies, the performing arts, and sport throughout the semester. I hope that everyone gets the chance to rest and renew over the break, and that our VCE students commit some time for study and revision in addition to time for rest and relaxation. It was good to see the start of our Year 9 Gadal building with site works commencing last week and building to be completed by January 2016.

Term 2 comes to a close this week and I wish all CRC families a restful and safe break.

Last Day of Term 2 and Buses

Celebration Day Presentations

Please note the following information regarding bus service pick-ups for this Friday. Our College will finish classes at 2.30pm as it has done in previous years. Melton Town services will run at their regular time. Our Bacchus Marsh Coach Services have unfortunately been affected by Melton Secondary College (the Melton Bus Coordinating School) now finishing at 3.10pm. They have instructed the buses to operate on their normal day times. We have been able to negotiate that the bus routes that only serve CRC Melton students will accommodate our 2.30pm finish time. The following services will pick up students at around 2.40pm.

At last weeks full school assembly presentations were made to the winners of the Celebration Day downball competition and 3 point competition. The winner of the downball competition was Mace Cousins from 7C, Carlos Gomez from 7R took out the 3 point competition. Well done boys. The winner of the Talent quest will be announced at our assembly first week back in Term 3.

Underbank Darley Hopetoun Park/Maddingley

The following buses will pick up at their normal times:   

Bacchus Marsh – CRC – Longforest Rd Toolern Vale – interchange for Eynesbury Golf Link Bacchus Marsh

Students who normally catch the Longforest Rd, Toolern Vale and Golf Link buses may wait until their normally scheduled pickup time or make other arrangements. We will open the College Library for students to wait.

We also took the opportunity at the assembly to make a presentation to one of the organisations the student leaders had identified to support from the fund raising of Celebration Day. The College Captains Bowde Griffith and Tegan Lafranchi presented a cheque for $2935.31 to McAuley Community Services for Women. This money was raised from all of the efforts of the students on Celebration Day. McAuley Community Services is a refuge for women who have experienced domestic violence and need support from others, in a safe environment. Angela Wood from McAuley Community Services gratefully accepted the cheque and was overwhelmed by the generosity of the students. She told the students how the money would be used and about a family she was currently working with. This was a family of a 5 year boy who looked after his 3 year old brother when dad had, as he described, a “wobbly and became a monster”. His regret was not being able to protect his mum. We can be justly proud that our students have helped to make a difference to victims of domestic violence.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but we were only notified of this change last Thursday and have not had any success in having the usual end of term times re-instated. John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) CareMonkey Medicare Card details The College was made aware of an issue with CareMonkey requesting an expiry date for Medicare cards that included day, month, year. CareMonkey has advised that they have adjusted the information required and parents are only required to provide information for month and year. A similar presentation will be made to Orygen next term and sent to Brother Beausang College Nairobi to help purchase musical instruments. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal-Students

The Annual Winter Sleepout Friday August 7th More than 22,000 people in Victoria are considered homeless, with almost 6000 of these being under the age of 18. The Winter sleepout provides us with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of homelessness and how it effects people’s lives. The Sleep out lets us experience in a very small way what it would be like to be homeless while also raising awareness and funds that will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul.

Year 7 Premier League Volleyball On Wednesday, June 17, the CRC Melton Premier League Girls’ Team hosted Kolbe Catholic College at CRC Melton in the Premier League Grand Final for 2015. Both teams had earned the right to play in the Grand Final by completing undefeated seasons, followed by 3-0 straight set wins in the semi-finals. Kolbe started strongly with some powerful serving and Melton trailed by 9 points halfway through the set. But some steady returning and consistent serving drew Melton back up with Kolbe, before Melton won a bunch of points late to take the first set 25-20. This was a fine start. The second set was fairly even until halfway through, before Melton edged ahead and maintained that lead throughout the set, winning the set 25-19. What was evident by now was that Melton had a number of girls who could win points on serve, putting pressure on the two or three good servers of Kolbe to match the Melton consistency. The third set saw Melton jump out to a few points lead early. This seemed to sap the confidence of the Kolbe team who couldn’t quite keep up with the Melton scoring. Melton finished with a flurry of strong serving to take the set 25-17, winning the Grand Final 3-0. This was an outstanding achievement from the girls, going through the season undefeated. In fact, they only lost 1 set throughout the competition, and that with a score of 24-26! The girls received outstanding coaching from Anton Micallef. Anton conducts disciplined and focused training sessions and this is reflected in the way the girls play. He has developed a huge improvement in the skills of this group since the start of the competition and their steadiness under pressure in the Grand Final was testament to their willingness to listen and learn. We thank Anton for his continued dedication to the Volleyball program at CRC Melton. The parents of the girls were very supportive throughout the competition, not only in allowing the girls to train after school on Thursday, but also in attending games and encouraging the girls at all times. It is wonderful to have such support. And finally, a huge thank you to the girls. They were a dedicated group who trained hard, made to do so by Anton! They listened and attempted to execute all directions and instructions designed to improve their game. Their teamwork and support for each other was often the differing factor in matches. Well done girls! Undefeated and Premier League Champions for 2015 is a fitting reward for your efforts. Mr. Hill

The Team: Malia Amato, Chantal Bala, Hannah Balila, Alexandra Della-Rocca, Selenna Fuimaono. Akoul Kon, Amber Mifsud, Brittany Mifsud, Stephanie Montgomery, Kristen Pereira.
