24th February, 2015 Reflection Blest are those invited to the banquet of the kingdom. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the poor in spirit: the reign of God is theirs.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the sorrowing: they shall be consoled.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the lowly; they shall inherit the land.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness; they shall have their fill.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are the single-hearted for they shall see God.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest too are the peacemakers; they shall be called Sons of God.’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘Blest are those persecuted for holiness’ sake; the reign of God is theirs.’ Amen. Swimming Carnival It was a terrific day last Thursday in respect to:   

the leadership shown by the Year 12 students and House Captains the positive energy of students in both the novelty events and the swimming events the support offered by parents and staff involved on the day

Well done to Emma Brown who led the day so well. Relay for Life Congratulations to all students involved in the Relay for Life at Tabcorb Park on the weekend. Micahela Hurst initiated the idea of our students being involved recently, and quickly the idea became a reality with the support of staff members, Laura Grech, Marg Rowe-Watts, Paul Iannazzo and Kerrie-Ann Matthews. I did see some very tired students when I called in to cheer them up at 6am on Sunday morning - tired but satisfied that they raised awareness and money towards a great cause. Mark Sheehan Principal

John Christie Deputy Principal (Staff) Working Bee 2015 This year, the College Working Bee will be held on Saturday, March 14th and on another Saturday later in the year, at a date to be confirmed. We thank you for your wholehearted participation in previous years and we look forward to an equally enthusiastic response again this year. It is a great opportunity to socialise with staff and other families in an atmosphere of communal endeavour in improving the College for our students.

CRC Swimming Carnival 2015 The Swimming Carnival was a beautiful sunny and warm day last week and student participation was at high levels. I would like to acknowledge the work of Ms Emma Brown on her organisation, her first carnival as Sports Coordinator. We will review the event and endeavour to improve any areas required. Please feel free to feedback any of your thoughts to Emma via her email ebrown@crcmelton.com.au Information about Hepatitis A contamination of frozen berries As you may be aware from various media sources, links were found between 1kg bags of Nanna's frozen mixed berries and at least five cases of Hepatitis A. As a precaution and on advice from Dr Rosemary Lester, Victoria's Chief Health Officer, the company recalled this product on 14 February and two further products on 15 February due to concerns about potential for contamination with hepatitis A virus. The products recalled as at 9 am Monday 16 February were:   

Nanna’s Mixed Berries 1kg; All batches up to and including Best Before Date 22/11/16 Creative Gourmet Mixed Berries 300g; All batches up to and including Best Before Date 10/12/17 Creative Gourmet Mixed Berries 500g; All batches up to and including Best Before Date 06/10/17

Consumers (including schools) were advised to discard any of these products and to be aware of the symptoms of hepatitis A infection in the 15-50 days after consuming the berries.

If you are available to help on the day please complete the Participation form on page 5 of the newsletter. Peter Drew Property Manager Swimming Carnival The Swimming Carnival on the 19th of February was a success with sunny weather this year. This year Glasheen thought they could win over the reigning champions Reed, but unfortunately were taken over by them at the last minute making Reed the Champions, for the 11th consecutive year, by 27 points. The Year 12 students also did an outstanding job at motivating their teams and creating an electric atmosphere for all who attended. This year the barbecue also raised $1,100 for Br Beausang, which will help them towards purchasing instruments for the school. Emma Brown School Sports & Carnivals Coordinator

The Performing Arts Showcase

Relay for Life For 18 hours over the weekend, CRC Melton had a team in the Melton Relay for Life held in TAB Corp Park. Students walked and ran the track from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning raising money for cancer research in collaboration with the Cancer Council.

The Performing Arts Showcase is to be staged at 7pm on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th March, in the long awaited and much anticipated Performing Arts Centre. Doors will open at 6.15pm for the College’s first major performance works for 2015, with pre-show drinks and hors d’oeuvres prepared and served in the theatre foyer by the Year 10 Hospitality class. The Performing Arts Showcase will be comprised of a variety of different performance works including:  10 ways to survive the Zombie Apocalypse, which will explore the survival mechanisms required to survive a major zombie attack.  The production of Coping will explore a large scale world disaster as a metaphor for the tragedies that we will encounter throughout our lives.  The Roaring 20s will wow audiences with dance works that have been inspired by movies such as The Great Gatsby, Cabaret and Chicago. The costumes will be dazzling, matching choreography that will be both uplifting and inspiring.

All of this was organised by our Sports Captain, Mikaela Hurst, who worked tirelessly for the last two weeks to make sure the event ran smoothly and staff throughout the night also supported her. Although there were some tired eyes in the morning, all the students should be proud of their achievements on the day and their commitment to the cause. If you would like to donate to the cause you can log on to www.relayforlife.org.au, click on donate, and search for the ‘CRC Melton’ team. Donations close at the end of March. SACCSS Senior Golf

Contact Number: ___________________________

On Monday 23rd of February Mr McGonegal and 3 students travelled to Werribee Golf Course to compete in this year’s SACCSS Senior Golf competition. Unfortunately due to a major thunderstorm the competition was reduced from 18 holes down to 12 holes, however the team, consisting of Ben Serpell, Jack Doyle and Conner Lees fell just short at the end. All 3 boys played exceptionally well, with Ben just missing taking out the individual player of the tournament.
