25th November, 2014 Reflection We welcome the light of God in our gathering as we pray with joyful hearts; Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) God of light and life, our hearts are joyful as we proclaim the One who welcomes all into your Kingdom. May we carry your light of life in our hearts and in Jesus’ name bring joy to the lost and lonely and all who walk in darkness. Amen.

Year 12 Graduation The Year 12 Graduation Dinner was held at Ultima Receptions Keilor last Friday night and it was a wonderful celebration for Year 12 students, their parents and CRC staff. Special thanks to Al Bloom and Marion Jackson who were responsible for the organisation of the night.

There are also tentative plans for our students to visit the Ballarat Campus of ACU in 2015. CRC will also be part of the ACU Teaching Academies program commencing in 2015. More details about this program will be forthcoming in due course.

Mass of Installation Australian Catholic University On Sunday I attended the Mass of Installation of the Honourable John Fahey ACU as the fourth Chancellor of Australian Catholic University. As the fourth Chancellor of ACU, Mr Fahey succeeds Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and follows in the footsteps of founding Chancellor, Cardinal Edward Clancy. Trained as a lawyer, Mr Fahey was Premier of NSW from 1992-99 before entering Federal politics where he served as Minister for Finance and Administration in the Howard Government. During this time he was also Chair of Sydney's successful bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games. Appointed President of the World Anti Doping Agency in 2006, he spent the next seven years in that demanding role before stepping down in 2013. CRC Melton has had an active association with ACU in recent years. I am a member of the Victorian Chapter of ACU, and our Year 11 Students visit the ACU Fitzroy Campus each year.

Congratulations Congratulations to ex CRC Melton student, Josh Younger, who finished second in the prestigious Australian Masters on the weekend. Congratulations also to Julia Sansone who has been awarded an Arts Victoria’s 2015 Creative Leadership Scholarship. Details on Page 3. Mark Sheehan Principal

Students may not take photos of other students or staff without their express permission. Students may not have unauthorised photos in their possession or upload unauthorised photos to any website or network storage area. Students may not pass unauthorised photos onto other people.

A reminder that students should not be having social media apps on their iPads as these are not considered ‘learning apps. The intention of the iPad is for it to be a learning device for school not a device that is just used for personal means. It is very disappointing to learn that students are not using their iPads correctly and are taking photos of staff and students and sending them through social devices to other students in other classes. It is also recommended that game apps (unless subject related) be removed from devices as we have found these to be quite distracting to student learning. Year Level Coordinators will be doing spot checks on iPads to ensure that only the essential apps (learning tools) are installed on student devices. Assemblies have been conducted telling students that they must remove these social media apps from their devices and if they are found, their device shall be confiscated and the apps will be deleted. The College has a mobile device management system in place that monitors and detects student usage and access of their iPads when at school. If students do access or use inappropriate websites, apps or social media at school their iPad will be confiscated and passed onto our Network Administrators for reimaging therefore losing all student work. We thank you in anticipation for your support on this matter. On behalf of all Year Level Coordinators

iPad Usage

Year 7-11 Awards Ceremony

With the roll out of iPads to all year levels this year it is very important to remind parents and students on a few agreement points that were agreed and signed off by both parties:

All award winners will have been notified and invited by mail to attend our annual Year 7-11 Awards Ceremony on Wednesday December 3 in the College Hall at 7pm. For seating purposes we need to have some understanding of how many seats to set up. If your son or daughter is receiving an award and you intend coming, contact details have been provided on the letter to indicate how many seats you require.

iPads should only be used in the classroom when required by the teacher. Inappropriate use in the classroom may result in sanctions including the confiscation of the iPad. Network administrators may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and ensure that users are using the iPad responsibly. Users should not expect that files stored on the iPad will always be private. Students are reminded that the device remains the property of Catholic Regional College Melton.

More information about lodging this form can be found at ato.gov.au by searching for 'QC22604'

Next week, students at these Year levels will be able to access their 2015 eTextbooks following an introductory session which will go through the login process for each student and tour of the Jacplus App which will provide their entry to their eTextbook collection.
