26th August, 2014 Reflection “Who Do You Say That I Am?” Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-16) Peter recognised Jesus as the Messiah, the chosen one of God. This statement of Peter’s is an ancient profession of faith. If we were asked the same question by Jesus today, how would we respond? ‘Who do YOU say that I am?’ Lord Jesus, for those in darkness, you are the light shining brightly. For those in confusion, you are the way, the truth and the life. For the lost, you are the Good Shepherd, leading us to life. For the disconnected, you are the true vine, the source of life for the branches. For all who are searching, you are the bread of life, filling the hungers of our hearts. You are the Messiah, the chosen one of God. Amen.

After losing 2 grand finals in a row, we refused to take anything less than a grand final win. With not much time to gel, our team trained well together in the lead up to Round 1. With a mixture of students from Years 10, 11 and 12 it was important that we got to know each other’s playing styles and worked hard with Mr. Ryan to build a common playing style. After winning comfortably in our games leading towards the finals we knew that it wasn't going to be as easy. After losing the previous two Grand Finals, all the boys understood the importance of not getting ahead of ourselves and this was stressed to all the players by the current Year 12 students who were in their third consecutive Grand Final appearance. On the day all the boys were excited, we all turned up to the ground in full school uniform which set the standard for the day. The conditions were poor with the wind blowing heavily towards one side of the ground, but we didn't let that affect our game. We made a great start to the game leading at half time by 5 goals. The team worked well together in the second half ensuring 2014 was the year that CRC Melton won the premiership. It was an honour to lead our team to the first ever Senior Boys AFL Grand Final win. I would like to thank all my team mates and Mr. Ryan for the effort they put in over the duration of the tournament. On behalf of all the Year 12 students we would like to wish all the boys who make the team next year the best of luck. Congratulations boys it was well deserved.
