8th November, 2016 Reflection Prayer For Patience and Gentleness Bestow on me, O Lord, a genial spirit and unwearied forbearance; a mild, loving, patient, heart; kindly looks, pleasant cordial speech, and manners in the exchanges of daily life; that I may give offence to none, but as much as in lies, live in charity with all men. Amen Johann Arndt, (1555-1621)

Dear Parents and Students, CRC Melton Memorial Service Last Friday, CRC Staff gathered in a morning prayer service to remember those staff and students whose names are on our Memorial Wall adjacent to the Chapel. In particular, we remembered Marita Miesen who passed on suddenly from heart failure in 2003. We placed a new plaque up in memory of Marita who commenced teaching at CRC Melton in 1992. She was a highly motivated and effective teacher in Maths, Science and RE and she always had the best intentions for the kids in her classes. Marita also was part of the CRC Melton family, being a mother to Annika, Domenic, Zachary, Evana and Solomon. Paul Miesen and Marita’s parents were also present for our service. CRC Melton Awards Night 2016 Our Annual Awards Night will be held on Thursday December 8 at Tabcorp Park - please keep this date prominent on your Home Calendar. Parents are reminded that in cases of emergency, the College office remains a vital and appropriate point of contact and can ensure your child is reached quickly and assisted in any appropriate way. Cyber Safety Education Program Melton City Council will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Wednesday 16 November and all parents, carers and professionals are encouraged to attend. Please see the attached flyer for more information and book early as places are limited. ThinkUKnow Australia is a cyber safety education program that educates parents, carers and teachers on how people are using technology, the challenges they may face online, and how to help them overcome these in a safe and ethical way. The presentation covers issues relating to children and young peoples’ privacy and security online, their relationships with other users and their online reputation. It provides insight into the devices young people are using, as well as the popular websites, apps and social networking sites they’re accessing.

ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. The events of the Imagination conference were one that could easily be marked as memorable. We were taught the importance and value of holding a core value as a leader to not only show people what you want to do, but to possess the will and ambition to complete that task. We were also taught to "FLEARN", which is, 'learning from failure’. We were grateful enough to also witness a speaker who was an Australian of the Year nominee, Kate Austin. Kate created the idea of ‘pinching’ hotel toiletries for those in need, and has now supplied nearly one million toiletries to those who need it most. We also witnessed an inspiring woman who needs no introduction, that being Melissa Doyle! She is an accomplished and award-winning journalist, who is one of Australia’s best-known and trusted presenters. Lastly, our personal favourite was meeting Alex Malley who is the Chief Executive Officer of CPA Australia; one of the world’s largest accounting bodies with 19 offices globally and more than 155,000 members worldwide. Alex has interviewed a variety of impressive people, including the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong - pretty impressive for a boy who got suspended from high school. We would like to thank Ms Grech for organising this amazing day for us and also Ms Nowak for supporting us throughout the whole day. Athyang Akec and Fernando Rios-Rodriguez

Hayfever

If your child is getting hay fever a lot it is a good idea to see their doctor, as there are several medicines which can make a difference. Symptoms of Hayfever are:  frequent sneezing  runny or blocked nose  itchy, red or watery eyes  an itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears. Parents/Guardians are welcome to leave medication at school to help ease the symptoms of Hayfever. Medication must be provided in its original packaging and a Medication Administration form completed. Please ask for a form at Reception. Year 9 Community Service Term 4 Week 4 Mitch, Ben and Cooper attended St. Vincent de Paul in Melton on Wednesday October 26th to volunteer in the shop. The boys helped sort clothes, labeled some children's clothes with the labelling gun and helped at the register. They thought the lady running the shop was very informative and funny. Year 9 Community Service Term 4 Week 5 For community service we went to St Catherine's and tutored the preps and Grade 1s. We did reading with them and we noticed that there was a wide range of reading abilities. We also noticed that some of the Grade 1s books were really long, had small writing and some really difficult words for their age. They were very shy and quiet. After they read to us we gave them a high five, some of them were too nervous to give us the high five. Liam, Jonathan, Josh & Mason Year 9 Community Service On the 2nd of November we went across to Wedge Park primary school to perform our community service with the Grade 5 students. Our students experienced some of the difficulties a teacher faces when helping the kids with their studies. The topic for the day was “bike life”. we were helping the Grade 5s create a story about how a bike works. Some of the kids were very well behaved and had a good understanding and knowledge of the topic. Daniel, Jonah, Adam, Zac and Jack. It was fabulous watching the boys interact with the Grade 5s. They jumped straight into the task, sitting with the younger ones, providing excellent assistance along with some general chit chat. The boys worked solidly for approximately an hour listening to the Grade 5s read, asking questions about the work and helping them with spelling. The comment from our students afterwards was “ that’s the hardest I have worked in one hour”. I concluded that the Grade 5s were grateful for the assistance they received and that our boys had a new and positive experience. Margaret Rowe-Watts
