8th October, 2013 Reflection ‘I Am’ Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the bread of life.’ Satisfy our hunger for God, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the light of the world.’ Light up our darkness with your message of hope, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the gate of the sheepfold.’ Lead us to your truth and peace, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the Good Shepherd.’ Gather us into your fold, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.’ Awaken us from the sleep of death, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, you said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ Show us the face of God, we pray to you. Lord Jesus, your said, ‘I am the true vine.’ Help us to bear fruit in your love, we pray to you. House Captains

Welcome back to the start of the new term, no doubt the students had a good and enjoyable holiday and as parents you are pleased to see them returning to school. For our Year 12 students they only have two full weeks before they finish their secondary education and tackle their final exams. There remaining classes will be a very important and critical time for them to consolidate the year’s work and seek final advice and assistance from their teachers.

The following students have been elected for 2014, congratulations to all students and we look forward to working with them next year. We are also pleased and proud to announce the new House names for the College, they reflect a direct and closer connection with our history. Social Justice - Our Melbourne Experience

Over the term break, Michelle Alfonsi, Michael DellaRocca and Ken Dumandan represented the College and competed in Round three of the National All Styles Championships. Michelle and Ken received Gold in Kata and Silver in Sparring with Michael winning Silver in Kata and Gold in Sparring. The three Winged Dragon Students will now compete in The State Titles in November and will be competing on a National level in Sydney in December.

Over the last two Fridays of Term 3, a group of senior students participated in the St. Vincent De Paul Matthew Talbot Soup Van. This program opened up the eyes of our students to the idea that there are struggling people not just in less fortunate countries, but right outside our front door and around the streets of Melbourne. Students travelled to North Melbourne on a Friday evening where they journeyed across various stops around Melbourne CBD, Fitzroy, East Melbourne and South Melbourne to give out food and beverages to those in need. The range of food distributed included sandwiches and rolls, hot drinks and food as well as soup and some sweets. As well as this, an assorted array of toiletries and every day items were handed out thanks to the generous donations of students and teachers. Overall the experience was enlightening and gave students determination to continue on volunteering and inform others of the possibility to be able to help others in our local city. The soup van program runs 365 days a year and operates thanks to the volunteers and the generous donations of companies. In the past financial year this particular soup van has helped to provide over 127,000 meals. We have received a great deal of enthusiastic feedback from our students about this program and aim to continue our support. A huge thank you to Mrs. RoweWatts who has helped to organise the program as well as Miss Grech who came along and gave her support. If any students or teachers are interested in participating in the Matthew Talbot Soup Van, future plans to volunteer again are being made. Make sure you contact Mrs. Rowe-Watts or one of the social justice leaders to put down your name for our next school program. The Christmas season is quickly approaching; why not donate some of your time to help others in need?

The CRC Melton Dojo has now been in operation for twelve months and is running both junior and senior classes due to its increase in numbers. Classes run every Wednesday and Friday afternoons for ages 7 onwards. If you would like further information please contact Sensei James Sghendo on 0407 830 435. Cancer Council Fundraising Late in Term 3 on Thursday 19th September, Joshua PaceRinaldo shaved his head under the sails in front of family, friends, staff and students. Joshua and his brother (a student at St Dominic’s) both decided to lose their locks in order to raise money for the Victorian Cancer Council. This was in response to the news that two family friends had been diagnosed in recent times. The boys were able to raise $6800, which is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations Josh!

Julia Sansone

Thank you Jordan, Alex , Joanne, Miruna, Rachel, Julia and Ms. L. Grech for sharing the experience. Mrs Rowe-Watts
