9th October, 2012 Reflection In recent weeks Melbourne as a community has responded to the terrible death of Gillian Meagher with an outpouring of grief, a march of empathy and defiance and many, many questions relating to the treasured women in our community. This week’s reflection is a prayer prompted by the all too early passing of Gillian Meagher. A Prayer for the Young Women of the World Father God, thank you for all the young women in the world. Give them dreams that are bigger than themselves - so they will have to trust you to help make their dream come true. Give them a will and heart to be all you created them to be. Help them to work hard and be successful. Enable them to be generous to those who are less fortunate. Give them hearts full of love and compassion. Give them the strength to say "“no” to activities that they would later be remorseful about. Help them to be kind to others. Protect them from people who would harm them physically, emotionally and mentally. In Jesus’ wonderful and powerful name. Amen

Welcome Back to Term 4 I have been well and truly “welcomed back” by staff and students as I returned to work this week after recovering from surgery in August.

Can I also congratulate the Athletics team of 2012 what an outstanding performance, winning so many Awards and also breaking three records.

I again thank all families for their support for my medical situation and I can report that I am progressing well. The operation was successful and I do not need to undergo radiotherapy or the like. I look forward to catching up with you in the coming weeks, especially the parents of Year 12 students at Graduation.

Keep At It!

Graduation Mass and Dinner These are important events in the life of a senior student and I acknowledge there has been a lot of planning going into these nights from Mrs Gauci and her team. Can I just make the comment that we deliberately planned two nights for our Graduating Class some time ago, in the belief that it is a special time for the students, their families, staff and indeed the school overall. Well done Congratulations to all staff and students involved in the Cabaret in September. In looking at the DVD of the performances and hearing feedback from staff and students, it was a terrific effort from all concerned.

It was good to see the Year 12s sitting their practice exams last week during the school holidays. By sitting these exams and getting feedback from their teachers, they are giving themselves every opportunity to prepare for their formal exams, which commence in four weeks time. Keep at it, and you will be rewarded!

Deputy Principal-Student Welfare News Welcome back to the start of the new term. No doubt the students had a good and enjoyable holiday and as parents you are pleased to see them returning to school. For our Year 12 students they only have two full weeks before they finish their secondary education and tackle their final exams. Their remaining classes will be a very important and critical time for them to consolidate the year’s work and seek final advice and assistance from their teachers. The start of Term 4 is a period of transition in the wearing of the school uniform. As indicated in the student diary, the summer uniform is to be worn after Melbourne Cup Day. Students have the option of wearing either the summer or winter uniform in Term 4 up until the Melbourne Cup. Stated below are the uniform requirements for Term 4. The school jumper is not the outer garment to be worn to and from school. Summer Uniform Boys Comment Blazer CRC Blazer need not be worn in Term 4. Trousers Navy Blue with CRC monogram. Shorts Navy Blue with CRC monogram. Worn with navy blue socks. Summer only. Shirt White open neck shirt with CRC monogram. Jumper CRC Jumper can only be worn to and from the College if under the Blazer. Tie Optional. If worn, the tie is to be done up to the shirt collar and worn correctly. Shoes Black leather lace-up school shoes. Socks Navy Blue. Belts Plain Black with traditional plain silver or gold buckle. Girls Comment Blazer CRC Blazer need not be worn in Term 4. Dress CRC Summer Dress (length to knee). Jumper CRC Jumper can only be worn to and from the College if under the Blazer. Shoes Black leather lace-up school shoes. Socks White anklets (no sports socks). Hair White, Black or Navy ribbons; clear or hair coloured combs.

The only jewellery that is permitted in the ear is one plain silver or gold stud or one small sleeper. Examples of the permitted styles are on display in the College Office and in Year Level Co-ordinators’ offices. If sleepers are worn they must be removed during PE and at other times as requested by staff. No facial piercing is allowed. Students coming to College wearing other jewellery will have these items confiscated. Students may claim these items back at the end of the term. Late to School I have written on two occasions in the Newsletter the issue of students arriving late to school for the start of the school day. The School requires regular and punctual attendance at school and to all classes. Students must be at school throughout the hours of a normal school day, this includes Homeroom at the start of the school day. Attendance enables proper continuity of programs, development of understanding, completion of work in class and dissemination of information. The most common reason given by students at the start of the day for being late is they slept in. This is not a legitimate reason or excuse. In today’s modern and digital world it is difficult to understand students not having access to an alarm of a morning. All mobile phones these days have alarm capacity. For students with a pattern of lateness to school for sleeping in will receive a Thursday after school detention. We are asking for your support to ensure your son/ daughter is arriving to school on time and ready for Homeroom at 8.48am. Mr Robert Blackley Deputy Principal

YEAR 12 INFORMATION

OUTCOME 2 - YEAR 11 DRAMA SOLO PERFORMANCES

The countdown has begun for the conclusion of Year 12.

The year 11 Drama class for 2012 shall be presenting their solo drama works on Thursday 18th October at 7.00pm in the Drama Studio. All parents, family members and friends of the cast are welcome, as are members of the College community. This performance provides an opportunity for any students in younger years, particularly years 9 and 10, who think they may choose Drama as a VCE subject, to witness the performance work of our current year 11s.

On Tuesday the 23rd of October, students celebrate their final formal day with an activities morning. Students will be expected at school at 7.30am to share in a breakfast. The theme of the morning is “Hollywood” and students will be dressed accordingly. A number of structured activities will occur throughout the morning with Year 12 students concluding the activities at 11.30am. Strict guidelines have been explained to the students and these, as well as consequences for inappropriate behavior have been defined in the letter outlining end of year activities, which was mailed during Term 3. Formal gatherings for the end of year will include the Graduation Mass on the 23rd of October and the Graduation Dinner on the 25th of October. A reminder to families that money and ticket requests are now overdue. Students are able to collect their requested tickets for both events on Monday from the YLC. Parents who have requested additional tickets will be notified about their requests by Friday. Many of the Year 12 students participated in their practice examinations on the second week of the school holidays. Examination revision programs have been tailored around the requirements of students demonstrated in these examinations.

Thursday Afternoon Activities Thursday 11th October: (Finish time 3.30pm) Period 3 - Guide to successful interviews (external presenter) Period 4 - Change of preference information Thursday 18th October: (Finish time 12.45) Full school Assembly

As the students performing shall be assessed on this same evening, it is imperative that standard theatre etiquette is observed. In line with this, it would be advisable that babies or small children do not attend. Please phone Samantha Frazzetto in the College office to RSVP, prior to the performance evening.
