Design INTENTIONAL PLANNING Practices There are two things we know for sure:

1. Energy flows where your attention goes. 2. If it’s not scheduled, it’s not real.1 Weekly Schedules By using the concept of "planning with intention" you are making a conscious decision where your attention will go. By doing this, you will reach your goals and have more time for your creative pursuits. Set regular INTENTIONAL PLANNING times. Weekly. Pick a regular time to look at your week. Sunday evenings work well... or Monday mornings. How about end of the day on Friday? The important thing is to make it a habit by finding a time that works for you. Put it in your calendar. Daily. Plan tomorrow at the end of today. Increase your success by ending each day with a short time to look ahead to the next day with intention. Schedule it.

Long term. In addition to short-term planning, long-term planning is key to staying on track. Think about when you want to look at your Monthly, Annual and Life Long dreams and goals. Use the calendars and "Planning for the Future" pages to help you with this process. Now: Schedule it! Put all of these INTENTIONAL PLANNING sessions in your calendar as appointments with yourself. These appointments are as important as any other.

Weekly INTENTIONAL PLANNING sessions. Manifesto Each week, start by re-visiting your personal manifesto in the beginning of the planner. Are you filling your weeks with the 10 things you “know for sure”? By keeping your own personal manifesto in the front of yourmind, you will more easily stay track with your Touchstones and your Goals - short-term, mid-term and lifetime.

plan with intention Now for the PLANNING part:

First, fill in your commitments. Start with the appointments you've made with yourself— time for planning, brief intermissions, even rest times! Do you use an electronic calendar? See below for ideas on how to integrate paper and electronic planners. Set the tone of your week: Pick a Song — This will set your creative rhythm. Music: it's good for the soul and for keeping us focused. At the end of each week, add this song to your Life Soundtrack (Lists Section), building a great play-list! Pick a Word — What word represents how you want to feel this week or what you want to accomplish? Identify your Touchstones, Goals + GTDs (get to dos) Rule of 3. Touchstone: defn. "a test or criterion for determining the quality or genuineness of a thing" – Miriam Webster Determine 3 Touchstones for the week. Words or phrases that will keep you focused. Think of them as stepping stones in a river. Revisit your touchstones daily to make sure you haven’t slipped off into the rapids of life!

3 Goals. Set no more than 3 daily goals, 3 weekly goals. 3 GTDs Get To Dos. More about managing tasks in a bit, but for now, stick to the "Rule of 3" each week, each day. Schedule a Brief Intermission A “play date” with yourself. Time to explore something that interests or inspires you. Ask yourself “what would be fun?” No judgment. Just flow. SCHEDULE IT! It’s as important as any other appointment! Reach Out and Touch. 3•2•1 Stay connected by deciding who to "reach out and touch" each week. Let these contacts be without an agenda. Simply make a connection. Let them know you’re thinking of them. People remember when they are noticed! Gratitude List Write down one gratitude item each day. At the end of the week, transfer your gratitude items to your Gratitude Gallery (Lists section). Nothing makes your day better than re-visiting your gratitude list.

* Paper Planner vs. Electronic Calendar. A Solution. Paper Planners are the best!! But Electronic devices are so handy... Here’s what you do. During the current week use your PAPER planner. It’s visual. Tactile. Satisfying. Doesn’t live in a cloud. It's in the "here and now." Plus the act of writing in your paper planner boosts the probability that you'll remember it. Your ELECTRONIC calendar is your capture tool for future commitments. It’s small, quick, clean. Add all new commitments to a “default” calendar in your electronic device - let’s call it [NEW]. During your “intentional planning" sessions write all of the [NEW] calendar items in your Paper Planner. Then reassign them to the proper electronic calendar (i.e. [Face to Face] and [Virtual] Once they're re-assigned, you know they’ve been transferred to your planner. Tip: Give distinctive colors to each electronic calendar - and match them in your paper planner. (I love to color!) That way at a glance you know when you need to add travel time or be somewhere quiet with a phone or a computer.

plan with intention WRITE IT DOWN in the Journaling and Notes Pages Anything goes on these pages. There are blank and lined pages because sometimes you feel like lines and sometimes you don’t! Doodle, take notes, journal. Capture your MENTAL EPHEMERA men·tal e·phem·er·a (noun) the little things that that take up space in our creative mind like ideas, bills to pay, to-dos, etc.

Eliminate the anxiety of the “Where did I put that note?!” or "what was that book I wanted to read?" moments. Put ALL of your important ideas, notes etc. into ONE CAPTURE TOOL: This planner. Never worry about losing a great idea or forgetting to do something important. Keep track of important GTDs (get-to-dos), WDs (wanna-dos) and other important stuff. But not by dumping everything into one giant list! "Action Triggers” are key An Action Trigger or more officially an "Implementation Intention," is a self-regulatory strategy in the form of an "if-then plan" that can lead to better goal attainment, as well as help in habit and behavior modification.

Triggers are the "where and when" a future task will be done. According to the science, by visualising or picturing where and when, our brain creates a neural image of the desired event, which then triggers a desired action when the future situation or circumstance arises."1 Whenever you think of a task, idea, or activity, think first about the TRIGGER, then add it to the appropriate Trigger list. SCHEDULE these action items on your calendar only when you’re really going to do them. Idea Capture

Use these pages to record your ideas as you have them so they don’t disappear! Then you’ll always know where to find them. Have ideas when you’re driving? Use a voice capture app in your phone and record it.... transfer it to your list later. Many phones come with one installed,
