EDITOR’S NOTE

IF NOT NOW, WHEN? “The time has come,” the Walrus said, “To talk of many things: Of shoes – and ships – and sealing-wax – Of cabbages – and kings – And why the sea is boiling hot – And whether pigs have wings.” (Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass)

N

ow, though I don’t feel like that old walrus at all, the time has indeed come to talk of many things. There are an infinite number of tasks still to be done and If not now, when? When is the time ever right for change? How about now? DeskLink/Creative Feel has just been commissioned to publish some exciting coffee table books about art, heritage as

well as cultural travels. The time has come to go back to my first love of designing and producing special projects related to Creative Feel. I will be standing down as editor of Creative Feel to find the headspace for all this new creativity, but I will be staying on as an ‘elder’ and co-publisher together with Chris. Of course, as publisher, I will still be involved in the magazine, the content, the general look and feel, the clients, and even more in our digital presence as it grows. All this should keep me very happy and young at heart. After all, if not now, when? There are also many things to talk about in Creative Feel, things that need young, energetic input with the ever-changing partnership between print and digital publishing and to preserve the legacy of Creative Feel and expand its presence. Who could be more suited do just that for Creative Feel than Tammy, my deputy editor for many years, who has been so important to the success of the publication. Tammy has always been the person who steps in whenever needed, getting things done, providing inspiration and much more. She is the person who often keeps everything focused, the contributors, our deadlines, getting things together for going to print and of course, she knows the CF environment really well. We have a young team with wonderful energy and great ideas in place, Tammy, together with Zama, our marketing livewire who is so liked by our clients and gets the actual advertisements that are so essential for any publication, make a great combination. Leigh, our designer, and Angie, our social media presence, complete the team and altogether provide great synergy. While I was recently in Cape Town exploring the wonderful Norval Museum and seeing the new John Kani play at the Fugard Theatre, the team basically managed this, the June issue, the youth month issue, and they came up with a great fresh, young issue – in spite of all the public holidays and the challenge of keeping to deadlines, well done. The time has come. It will be fun and I look forward to a continuing creative role.

hustle and bustle of every-day life and stress. So indulge yourself… As they often collaborate with up-and-coming performers, you might be lucky enough to stay when they have a show in the intimate Vissi d’Arte Theatre/Art Gallery.

On stage at Casta Diva’s Vissi d’Arte Theatre in June: Liza with a ‘T’ starring Tonya Koenderman Tonya Koenderman is back in town with her one-woman hit show, Liza with a ‘T’, directed by Neil Lessick. This critically acclaimed production is a tribute to the great Liza Minnelli and has been performed to sold-out houses in Port Elizabeth, East London, Grahamstown, Durban, Cape Town, Namibia, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg.

Restaurant Guaranteed the true Decadent, Divine, Delightful fine dining experience, the perfect fusion between the magic of Casta Diva, fresh ingredients, a dedicated culinary team and the friendliest service of South Africa.

The show tells the story of Minnelli’s life – her close relationship with her father, her struggle to conquer drug and alcohol abuse, her many relationships, and of the influence that her mother Judy Garland had over her. But mainly, the show pays tribute to the songs Minnelli made famous: ‘Cabaret’, ‘Mein Herr’, ‘Maybe This Time’, ‘New York, New York’, ‘All That Jazz’ and many more. Hours of careful study of Minnelli’s moves and music has resulted in a show that has brought great success for Koenderman. Her impersonation is so impressive that she was invited to star in the look-alike, sound-alike show Stars in Your Eyes in 1996. This lead to her being the only local artist to perform in the international show Beyond Belief, which ran for 18 months at the Sun City Extravaganza. Liza with a ‘T’ will be on at Casta Diva’s Vissi d’Arte Theatre in Pretoria on 22 June. Tickets are R140. To book, email info@castadiva.co.za or WhatsApp 081 542 4449.
