Creatives for Climate
Activating climate leadership within the creative industries.

The network spans 30,000 strong – including entrepreneurs, employees and ethical agencies – working towards a world where the advertising, marketing and PR industries drive climate solutions.
Our mission is to activate climate leadership within the creative industries and we do this by mobilising change-agents, advancing industry collaboration, and supporting climate solutions to scale.
Our three critical areas of action:
The Hub Movement Building Courses
Building a movement of creatives taking climate action and learning new skills to drive change.

Bridging the climate creativity gap
“As the urgency of the climate crisis intensifies, so too does the need to accelerate the adoption of solutions to meet the changes that lie ahead.”
Learn how we turn ideas into action, science into stories and despair into hope in this chapter.
Foreword
The creative industries have been selling us lifestyles of consumption and building legitimacy for the world’s worst polluters for decades, but their potential to drive widespread positive change is unparalleled.
Our plan is to bridge that gap.
When redirected away from promoting pollution and towards accelerating solutions, creativity can turn science into stories, mobilise citizens into movements, and drive positive social tipping points to accelerate systemic change.
The EU’s climate service has confirmed that 2023 is the first time global warming has exceeded 1.5C degrees across an entire year. To mitigate the worst effects of a warming climate, and to ensure a more just and regenerative future, transforming the role of the creative industries has never been more urgent.
At Creatives for Climate, we are building a movement to bridge the creativity gap in climate action. Our network spans entrepreneurs, employees and ethical agencies and our programme areas across upskilling, industry change, and building an intersectional movement, is gaining pace.
Today, we are a community of more than 30,000 across our channels and 3,800 on our collaboration Hub. We have developed a suite of educational tools and courses, launched a growing industry alliance, and led creative actions in support of climate solutions that have reached millions.
As the movement grows, it is heartening to witness the rise of talent withholding their work from destructive industries, starting with fossil fuel industries as the worst offenders.
A recent Kite survey across 15 major industries revealed that 8 out of 10 are ready to take action on climate change in their workplace and we believe there is so much more that can be done to drive a more ethical industry forward.
We continue to hear the rallying cry from those who possess the solutions - climate organisations, scientists, and academics - seeking more effective and creative storytelling scale, and we are excited to continue to pioneer ways to bridge this gap.
We have been building a programme to drive solutions at scale and I’m so excited to share it with you in this report, along with our newly established Board of Directors, Advisors and global team.
I thank you for taking the time to read about our efforts and ambitions. If you are inspired to join us in our mission, we are actively looking for funders, collaborators and enablers who want to partner with us to supercharge these efforts going forward.
Sincerely
FOUNDER
Lucy von SturmerThe need for change
The data tells us that the industry is in drastic need of transformation, and that creatives are ready to leave dirty careers behind…
A recent KPMG survey showed that 1 in 5 respondents have turned down a job offer because the company did not align with the applicant’s values.
This is backed by a 2023 Kite Insights report revealing 83% of employees say they want to act on climate at work, and 70% say the ability to act on climate at work is important to their motivation and well-being
Meanwhile the state of the industry reveals that 40% of UK marketers say they don’t have the qualifications needed to effectively communicate sustainability (CIM, Oct 2020)
Misinformation has emerged as the single top global risk according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Risks Report 2024.
As the 2023 Net Positive Employee Barometer report concluded that “businesses were sleepwalking into an era of conscious quitting” with half of respondents in the US and UK leaving their job if the company’s values were not appealing.

“I’m ready and willing to take action on climate change in my workplace.”

Our vision is a world where creativity is used in service of climate solutions. Our mission is to activate climate leadership within the creative industries.

How we create change
Creativity is critical to addressing the climate crisis, providing the connection, understanding and motivation needed to inspire action at a global scale.
Yet many climate campaigns struggle to cut through, often relying on traditional tactics, complex data, and narratives that spark fear.
We need to bridge the gap between creativity and climate action.
To do that, we are dedicated to solving three key challenges:
Building a movement of creatives learning new skills to drive change.
Championing frontrunners to drive environmental action across the industry.
Connecting climate organizations to creatives to co-create solutions.

Testimonials
Joss Ford
“We are committed to using our services to drive the societal and environmental movement forward, and joining the Ethical Agency Alliance is a great opportunity to work with others on this collective mission, bigger than any single one of us can tackle alone. The notion of ‘creativity for good’ is under threat if we don’t distinguish between agencies walking the walk on climate action and transformation, and those just putting occasional climate-related projects on their website. We want to show what real commitment to action looks like.”
Kibbo Kift Agency
Sam Narr
“From awards shows to lacklustre accreditation to greenwashing, the hypocrisy in the industry is rife. It’s so infuriating and lonely as a small agency, self-governed by your own ethics and morals in a sector that is so influential, yet lags considerably on progress for climate and social justice. I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of a like-minded network of agencies guided by a fully transparent framework to achieve action and create change.”
New Citizenship Project and author of Citizens
Jon Alexander
“It’s so good to see communities like Creatives for Climate growing and gaining power. It’s easy to feel like it’s all too much if you are on your own, but when you find the others, you find your power. I wish the network and team had been around when I was still working in advertising.”
Fossil Free Advertising Netherlands
Femke Sleegers
“The agencies joining the Ethical Agency Alliance are frontrunners by refusing to use their creativity to help the polluters continue their polluting business, and now they are calling for more agencies to follow. They are the leaders of change.”
How can we mobilize the collective creative potential of our network in support of climate solutions?

The Greenwash Swatch
We partnered with think tank Planet Tracker to translate their research on greenwashing into a toolkit for creative climate action. We created the Greenwash Swatch, helping professionals to identify and call out an increasingly complex greenwashing landscape.
Published as a handy paint swatch booklet that fits into handbags and pockets, the toolkit is designed to empower creatives to identify examples of greenwashing at any moment — providing a simple and provocative way to fuel conversations about brand accountability.

Building on that momentum, we took the Greenwash Swatch to COP28 in Dubai in support of the Fossil Fuel Proliferation Treaty campaign’s call to end the expansion of fossil fuels.
Over 200 leaders and 13 agencies join the campaign to reach over 70,000 leaders directly.
COP28: We’re watching campaign
In partnership with the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, we focused on addressing greenwashing at COP28 in Dubai. Facing the challenge of increased fossil fuel lobbyist presence and leadership by the CEO of ADNOC, our objective was to rally our global creative community to advocate for a treaty to phase out fossil fuels.
We launched an online campaign utilizing the “COP28 Creative for Climate Toolkit,” designed to educate and empower users to identify and challenge greenwashing.
The toolkit included resources like a greenwash detector, templates for social media amplification, speaking points, and FAQs, all aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of our message.

Shaping the climate justice narrative
Oxfam came to us with the intention to produce a film documenting the impact and challenges of human rights defenders across the globe, titled ‘Hold the Line’, premiering at the 2023 African Human Rights Film Festival in Cape Town, South Africa.
In conjunction with the film, the Oxfam released a study titled “Threats to Human Rights Defenders: Six Ways Companies Should Respond,” detailing how companies should respond to the growing number of threats facing human rights defenders and offers six key recommendations.

We partnered with Oxfam to bring awareness to the work, engaging the creative industry and business community at large in a conversation about the role of human rights defenders and the global agenda through a campaign entitled ‘Shaping the Climate Justice Narrative’.
A live webinar and social media campaign brought the human stories of climate defenders to the fore and gave a platform to those on the frontline of climate change, often risking their lives to take action.
15,000 individuals reached through a social media campaign, that rolled out over four weeks; amplified by media coverage in PRWeek and MediaCat.
The New York launch of the campaign.
On December 12, 2023 at The Ford Foundation offices in New York, the film was previewed in an intimate setting taking the story of human rights defenders and the pivotal role they play in defending planet earth further.

When people engage with Creatives for Climate, they are connecting with a community of pioneers, and it is this passion, energy and authentic connection that drives our effectiveness as we scale.
When we began as a summit in 2019, we had little idea we would play

The world we are living in has drastically changed and the very system in which we are living needs
More than ever before, we need individuals, industry, and organisations, to work collaboratively to scale the impact of solutions, and we are excited to continue to pioneer with our network to achieve this in the years ahead.
