LOGOTYPES MARKS SYMBOLS 7 YRS. OF DESIGN 2008–2015

Brand and visual identity plays an important role for any organisation looking for the attention of its audiences, and the logo is one of the most powerful assets they have, the focal point of any identity for branded communication. [Loh-goh] Vol 1 serves as a gallery of our works, curated from the past seven years, dating from 2008 to 2015. All the logos are displayed in black and white to focus on their abstract or pictorial form. After all if it works in black and white, it should work in any colour.

— Hello

Everyday we are faced with so many different logos. They come in all shapes and sizes, letter forms, symbols and marks. What I love about logo design is its so openly creative, they can be purely graphic, using symbols, icons and shapes, while others are made of letters, words, numbers and even just punctuation marks, you even have some that are combinations of the two. They are used for all manner of things, products, campaigns, events as well as its more associated use as part of a organisation brand and identity. I’ve found that logo design is considered the essential skill of any graphic designer. Design has many types of disciplines and identity design is just one of them. I consider it as an art form and skill in it’s self. To get the design of a logo right, to understand and communicate the meaning of a much larger idea into a memorable or distinctive mark, is a pressure on any designer or agency. There’s not much other type of work that will be on such public display and that will also be under so much scrutiny and opinion. Every logo design is a new challenge. But we stick to a simple set of rules:

Scalability It’s important that it remains legible at all times, so considering how the logo will work in a range of sizes is a must. How does it look when its large on advertising, to how it looks small on a website. Mono A logo will be used for all sorts of purposes, and colour may not always be an option. How does it looks in just black and white? If it works in just a single colour, it will work in any. We’ve worked on many logo designs over the years for varied clients - from corporations, domestic and international, charities, start ups and individuals in all fields of business. In some cases they are part of a bigger identity package, or working with a organisation to build on their existing identity, others for new product’s and services, while some for campaigns and events. But no matter what they’re used for, they all serve the same purpose; to be distinctive and recognisable, to communicate quickly and clearly.

Lloyd Bedford Keep it simple Less is more. The best and most recognisable logos in the world use a simple logotype or marque. Think of the Apple logo or the Nike swoosh. Even less Strip away more from the design, take away anything that makes the logo look overly complicated and cluttered.

We would like to thank all the great people, clients and organisations we have had the privilege to work with over the past seven years. Your support and work has enabled us to live the dream and vision laid out by our founding partners. Lloyd & Rik would also like to thank all the members of our team for their hard work, dedication to all the projects, late nights and deadlines. Also a thanks goes out to all our suppliers for their hard work, great advice and excellent delivery on bringing our visions to life. Lloyd & Rik reserve a special thanks to their families and partners, Sam and Debs respectively, for their support, understanding and enthusiasm over the years. There’s been good and hard times but they have always been a constant. And finally thank you, for taking the time to flip through, browse and read our little book. We hope that you have enjoyed our work.

— In 2008, Creativitea was born out of a vision of Lloyd Bedford and Rik Barwick, two designers who shared a passion for design and a desire to do things differently. Now seven years later, [loh-goh] serves as a gallery and celebration of the logotypes, marks and symbols designed for various organisations, start ups, charities and individuals. Featuring 72 designs from 2008–2015.
