Eurosport e a FIA voltam a entregar ao Azores Airlines Rallye as honras de abertura do campeonato. Uma situação que poderia ser um grande desafio para a organização, já que no início do campeonato muitas equipas e pilotos ainda não têm os seus planos definidos, e o aspecto competitivo e desportivo da prova poderia ficar aquém da expectativa. Felizmente tal não aconteceu, e não só muitos concorrentes já têm a sua época planeada, como fizeram questão de marcar presença nos Açores para a prova de abertura, e os números não enganam. No total de 60 viaturas, mais 16 da lista que engloba alguns concorrentes do CPR, da Taça FPAK de Ralis e viaturas que perderam homologação FIA, serão 35 viaturas da classe R5, 12 viaturas na classe R2, para um total de 22 nacionalidades representadas. A nível de traçado, a prova mantém-se no seu essencial a mesma, com a maior novidade a ser a saída do troço Soluções M, facto que levou à necessidade de aumentar a prova especial de Vila Franca / São Brás. A classificativa das Sete Cidades foi encurtada no seu início, de forma a reduzir a quantidade de asfalto. Uma última palavra, para a prova extra que o GDC irá organizar em homenagem ao falecido piloto micaelense Horácio Franco. Irá ter lugar no recinto da prova especial Marques, o Horácio Franco Trophy, no dia 25 de março, e a participação será aberta a pilotos nacionais e internacionais. Espera-se de todos uma adesão em massa a esta homenagem a um piloto que tanto deu aos ralis e à região. Vejam o rali em segurança e divirtam-se!

urosport and the FIA once again give Azores Airlines Rally the opening honors of the championship.

A situation that could be very challenging for the organization, since at the beginning of the championship many teams and drivers still do not have their plans closed, and the competitive and sporty aspect of the race could fall short of expectations. Luckily this did not happen, and not only many competitors already have their season planned, as they made sure to be present in the Azores for the opening event, and the numbers prove it. In the total of 60 vehicles, plus 16 more of the list that includes some competitors of the Portuguese Champhionship, the FPAK Cup of Rallies and vehicles that have lost FIA homologation, will be 35 vehicles of class R5, 12 vehicles in class R2, for a total of 22 represented nationalities. Regarding the course, the rallye remains essentially the same, with the most novelty being the cancellation of the Solutions M stage, which led to the need to increase the lenght od Vila Franca / São Brás stage. The Sete Cidades stage has its beginning shortened, in order to reduce the amount of asphalt. One last word, for the extra event that the GDC will organize in honor of the late micaelense driver Horacio Franco. It will take place in the Marques special stage, the Horácio Franco Trophy, on March 25, and the participation will be open to national and international teams. It is expected that everyone joins in mass in this tribute to a driver who gave so much to the rallies and the Azores region. Watch the rally safely and have fun!

É assim há 53 anos: a partir do coração da cidade, a prova que faz pulsar mais forte o automobilismo regional, agora com impacto europeu, volta a colocar o desporto automóvel açoriano no cartaz turístico dos grandes eventos, tendo como pano de fundo a beleza ímpar das nossas paisagens. concelho de Lagoa será, uma vez mais, palco de atuação da prova rainha, que marcará o início de mais uma edição do Azores Airlines Rallye. Volvidas 53 edições, a Câmara Municipal de Lagoa volta a associar-se a esta prova do desporto automóvel, proporcionando aos lagoenses e a todos aqueles que nos visitam um espetáculo de grande projeção e mediatismo. O Lagoa Stage, a ter lugar no próximo dia 22 março, no Tecnoparque, é a prova de que o concelho se encontra em pleno desenvolvimento numa zona que, no futuro, é promissora e trará, certamente, uma nova face de desenvolvimento à Lagoa. Como Presidente deste Município, foi com enorme orgulho que assisti, pela segunda vez, a este espetáculo automobilístico e pude constatar a presença de milhares de amadores deste desporto e observar o movimento diferente no centro desta cidade. Certamente é uma conquista justa que se justifica na Lagoa, uma vez que é nessa cidade que se localiza a sede do Grupo Desportivo Comercial. Com o início da prova do Azores Airlines Rallye na Lagoa, confirmamos, assim, a nossa vocação cosmopolita, de saber receber quem nos visita e de reconhecer os grandes desafios desportivos com determinação. nce again, the county of Lagoa is the stage in the queen of the races which marks the beginning of one more edition of Azores Airlines Rallye. After 53 editions, the Lagoa City Hall re-associates with this motorsport event, providing to the population of Lagoa and all of who visit, this grand spectacle of media exposure. The Lagoa Stage, taking place 22 of march at Tecnoparque, is the proof that the county will encounter in full development in an area that, in the future, is promising and certain to bring new development to Lagoa. As President of this County, it is with great pride that, for the second time, I could see this motorsport event, and I observe the presence of thousands of lovers of this sport and the different movement in the city center. Certainly it’s a fair achievement that is justified in Lagoa, since it’s in this city where the Grupo Desportivo Comercial is headquartered. It is confirmed with the start of the Azores Airlines Rallye race in Lagoa, that our cosmopolitan vocation know to welcome those who visit, recognize the overcoming of great sports challenges with determination. We wish to continue to project Lagoa at regional level, national and even international, supporting events of great wingspan that bring notoriety and prestige. Therefore, with great pride, that also in the scope of sports, we welcome Campeonato da Europa de Pantinagem Artística 2018. An organization with responsibility to Associação de Patinagem de S. Miguel, that deserves that our financial support and logistics are actualized from 30 of august to 9 of September, at the pavilion of Escola Secundária de Lagoa. mês de março fica marcado nos Açores com a realização de mais uma edição do Azores Airlines Rallye, desta feita a 53ª vez que a competição vai para a estrada. Este ano, temos novamente o privilégio do Campeonato FIA da Europa de Ralis (ERC) ter início na nossa Região. E se dúvidas houvesse acerca do sucesso que representa a organização do Azores Airlines Rallye, bastaria constatar o entusiamo já demonstrado pelo coordenador geral do ERC, Jean-Baptiste Ley, pelo facto de o ERC arrancar nos Açores e poder, dessa forma, continuar a sustentar o êxito da competição. O Azores Airlines Rallye configura a mais relevante prova automobilística da Região, apresentando, fruto da maturidade que já alcançou e do aperfeiçoamento ao longo de 53 edições, um nível cada vez mais elevado em termos de qualidade e notoriedade. Para além disso, cresce constantemente na importância que detém para a projeção internacional da Região, levando todo o mundo a vislumbrar as belezas naturais da ilha de São Miguel e desempenhando, por esta via, um papel de cartaz de visita, de chamariz turístico, para o nosso arquipélago.

he month of March is marked in the Azores with another edition of the Azores Airlines Rallye, this time the 53rd time the competition is on the road. This year, we again have the privilege of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) starting in our Region. And if there were any doubts about the success of the organization of the Azores Airlines Rallye, it would suffice to note the enthusiasm already demonstrated by the general coordinator of the ERC, Jean-Baptiste Ley, because the ERC started in the Azores and could thus continue to sustain the success of the competition. The Azores Airlines Rallye is the most important automobile event in the Region, presenting, as a result of the maturity it has already achieved and improvement over 53 editions, an ever higher level in terms of quality and notoriety. In addition, it is constantly growing in its importance to the international projection of the Region, leading the whole world to glimpse the natural beauty of the island of São Miguel and, in this way, playing the role of visiting poster, a tourist attraction, for our archipelago.

Entre 22 e 24 de março, fãs dos desportos motorizados e população em geral poderão apreciar, “in loco” ou através das transmissões televisivas, as nossas idílicas paisagens, com especial destaque para a etapa das Sete Cidades, que, de certa forma, constitui a imagem de marca da prova e a cada ano que passa cativa uma maior audiência.

Between March 22 and 24, fans of motor sports and the general population will be able to enjoy, “in loco” or through the television broadcasts, our idyllic landscapes, with special emphasis on the Sete Cidades stage, which, in a way, constitutes the brand image of the event and each year that captivates a larger audience.

Importa, igualmente, congratular a direção do Grupo Desportivo Comercial pela organização de mais um grande evento desportivo e de enorme exigência em termos logísticos, cujo contributo para o desenvolvimento económico, cultural e turístico da Região é bastante significativo.

It is also important to congratulate the management of the Sport Commercial Group for the organization of yet another major sporting event and a huge demand in terms of logistics, whose contribution to the economic, cultural and tourist development of the Region is quite significant.

ocal onde desembarcaram os primeiros Povoadores da Ilha de São Miguel, por volta de 1460, o Concelho da Povoação é constituído por seis freguesias: (Água Retorta, Faial da Terra, Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Ribeira Quente, Furnas e Povoação). Visitar o nosso concelho é estar permanentemente em contacto com a natureza. Na terra ou no mar, oferecemos um vasto e variado leque de opções, que lhe proporcionarão experiências inesquecíveis, as quais certamente desejará repetir. Com jardins e miradouros de inigualável beleza, parques de sonho, de elevada riqueza botânica, temos caldeiras, lagoa e ainda piscinas de águas quentes férreas onde poderá relaxar. A freguesia de Água Retorta, tipicamente rural, com uma enorme fajã mesmo à beira do calhau junto ao mar; o Faial da Terra, presépio da ilha, com tradição na caça à baleia; a Freguesia de Nossa Srª dos Remédios, terra outrora rica em cereais com o seu “Museu do Trigo; a Ribeira Quente, freguesia tradicionalmente piscatória com a praia de águas quentes; a freguesia de Furnas na qual se pode sentir o pulsar dos Vulcões, com a sua lagoa, caldeiras, parques botânicos e águas termais e a Povoação, freguesia de riqueza histórica a partir da qual se podem desbravar os “caminhos do povoamento” ou trilhos pedestres.

Standing out from our gastronomic menu, the “cozido” of Furnas cooked with volcanic interior vapor is what gives its unmistakable flavor. The village of Água Retorta, typically rural, is a huge girdle by the edge of the ocean shoreline; the Faial da Terra, the nativity of the island with its tradition in whale hunting; the civil parish of Nossa Srª dos Remédios, once rich with cereal with its “Museu do Trigo”; the Ribeira Quente, traditionally pescatarian civil parish with a beach of hot springs; the civil parish of Furnas in which you can feel the volcanic pulsations with its lake, hot springs, botanical parks, and thermal waters and Povoação, civil parish historical wealth from which you can explore the “caminhos do povoamento” or pedestrian paths.

PASSE ALGUM TEMPO CONNOSCO saudável isolamento e a ruralidade do concelho do Nordeste são, ao longo de todas as edições do Rallye dos Açores, atração e motivo para que dois dos principais troços da prova tenham lugar nesta ponta da ilha. A mesma ponta onde o sol desponta, onde o verde da paisagem é ainda mais intenso e o ar ainda mais puro. Aqui, respira-se sobretudo natureza, sendo a Serra da Tronqueira e o Planalto dos Graminhais - zonas de passagem do Azores Airlines Rallye - duas das maiores ofertas do Nordeste no âmbito dos recursos naturais, aliados à sua flora e fauna, que, em ambos os casos, são exclusivas desta parte da ilha. Referimo-nos ao Priolo, ave endémica restrita às Zonas de Proteção Especial do Pico da Vara e da Serra da Tronqueira, assim como às Turfeiras, do Planalto dos Graminhais, outra área protegida. Graças a estas riquezas naturais e à nossa ruralidade, somos um concelho galardoado com a Carta Europeia de Turismo Sustentável (Terras do Priolo), galardão que distingue o nosso território como sendo um destino que preserva os seus recursos naturais e as suas tradições culturais. Os miradouros, floridos, asseados e com deslumbrantes vistas, são outro atributo do Nordeste. Nos Miradouros da Ponta do Sossego e da Madrugada poderá apreciar o nascer-do-sol, e avistar, na Ponta do Lombo Gordo, a ilha vizinha de Santa Maria se o dia nascer claro e soalheiro. No Parque dos Caldeirões, encontra uma magnífica cascata de água e um conjunto de moinhos recuperados, património regional, que nos convidam a recuar às vivências dos nossos antepassados. Convidámo-lo a ficar mais tempo pelo Nordeste e a fazer, também, os nossos percursos pedestres, todos eles antigos trilhos rurais, quer sejam de montanha ou de costa. O Percurso Pedestre do Pico da Vara (PR7/SMI) é o maior e o mais procurado por quem visita o concelho e mesmo a ilha, por ser a maior altitude de S. SPEND SOME TIME WITH US he healthy isolation and rurality of Nordeste county are, over all the Rallye dos Acores editions, attraction and motivation that for two of the stage are ruen in this area of the island. The same area in which the sun rises where the green landscape is even more intense and the air even more pure. Here we breathe mostly nature, being the Serra da Tronqueira and the Planalto dos Graminhais - areas of passage of Azores Airlines Rallye - two of the largest gifts of Nordeste in the area of natural resources, lined with its flora and fauna which, in both cases, are exclusive to this part of the island. We refer to Priolo, the common native bird restricted by Zonas de Proteção Especial do Pico da Vara and Serra da Tronqueira, with whom the Peat Bogs of Planalto dos Graminhais, another protected area. Thanks to this natural richnesses and our rurality, we are a county rewarded with the Carta Europeia de Turismo Sustentável (Terras do Priolo) award that distinguishes our territory as being a destination that preserves its natural resources and traditional cultures. Our scenic overlooks, florals, and breathtaking views are other attributes of Nordeste. Our Miradouros da Ponta do Sossego and da Madrugada can appreciate the sunrise, a sight to see our neighboring island at Ponta do Lombo Gordo if the day begins clear and sunny. In Parque dos Caldeirões, encounter a magnificent waterfall along with recovered water mills, regional heritage that we invite as retreat experiences from our ancestors. We invite you to stay longer in Nordeste to, also, our hiking trails, all of those antique rural trails that are mountainous or by the coast. The Precurso Pedestre do Pica da Vara (PR7/SMI) is the largest and the most sought out to those who visit the county and even the island, because of its higher altitudes of S. articipar e contribuir activamente para a edição 53 do SATA Rallye Açores é um orgulho e uma responsabilidade acrescida, para a fantástica equipa que tenho o privilégio de liderar, composta pelos responsáveis dos vários departamentos e pelas centenas de pessoas, que desde há longos meses e durante o desenrolar da Prova, dão o melhor do seu esforço individual para o sucesso deste grande, senão o maior, evento de promoção dos Açores. Este orgulho é de todos os Açorianos, que sabemos estarem connosco, através do seu apoio e carinho. A nossa homenagem e lembrança para todos aqueles que, ao longo de gerações, passaram por esta Organização, conseguindo ultrapassar todas as dificuldades e manter vivo este entusiasmo, nunca deixando de lutar para fosse possível atingir o nível de hoje. Esta prova, muito para além da vertente desportiva, é uma janela de visibilidade dos Açores a nível planetário, colocando em destaque a nossa Região, pela amplitude da cobertura mediática do canal Eurosport, que chega a tantos milhões de espectadores nos vários continentes. o participate, and actively contribute to the 53th edition of AZORES AIRLINES RALLYE is a pride, and a greater responsibility, for the fantastic team that I have the privilege to lead, composed of the heads of various departments, and also for the hundreds of people, who for many months, and during the event itself, give the best of their individual effort to the success of this great, if not the greatest, Azorean promotion event. This pride is shared with all the Azoreans, which we know are with us, throughout their support and affection. Our tribute and remembrance of all those who, for generations, have passed through the organization, overcoming all the difficulties and maintaining this enthusiasm alive, never ceasing to fight for it, made it possible to reach nowadays. This proves, well beyond the sporting aspect, the Azores have become a visibility window, on a planetary level, through the extent of Eurosport media coverage, which reaches many millions of viewers in several continents. Very important: Arrive early to the specified spectacle areas, NEVER STAY AT ROAD LEVEL NEITHER BEHIND THE RED TAPES OR “NO GO” AREAS. Depois da surpreendente vitória obtida em 2017, que juntou às que já tinha obtido nos Açores em 2008 e 2010, Bruno Magalhães volta a repetir a presença na prova açoriana, que é uma das favoritas do piloto de Lisboa. Bruno e Hugo Magalhães alcançaram no final da época o Vice-campeonato do FIA ERC, e até prova em contrário, partem para esta temporada praticamente nas mesmas condições: pensar prova a prova, até porque as questões orçamentais assim o ditam. Contudo, quando antes o objectivo era somente lutar por um pódio na prova açoriana, agora há um objectivo maior: conquistar o título europeu. Para isso contam novamente com o competitivo Skoda Fabia R5, e com toda a experiência e assistência técnica da equipa ARC Sport.

Bruno and Hugo Magalhães reached the FIA ERC Vice-championship at the end of the season, and until proven otherwise, they start this season practically in the same situation: think race by race, even because budgetary issues dictate it. However, when last year the objective was only to fight for a podium in the Azorean race, there is now a bigger goal: to win the European title. Um feito com ainda mais destaque, tendo em conta a “curta” carreira do piloto nos ralis. O piloto discutiu o campeonato até à última prova e levou de vencida a concorrência. A conquista do ceptro nacional, fez com que a atenção sobre ele aumentasse, de forma que a Hyundai Portugal, ao decidir ingressar no Campeonato de Portugal de Ralis, convidou o piloto para o seu projecto de ralis, no qual se inclui também Armindo Araújo, que por sua vez decidiu não vir aos Açores. Será interessante ver até que ponto o piloto se dará bem nas estradas de São Miguel, ao volante de uma nova viatura.

Luis Rego Jr. conseguiu vencer 2 provas, o Rallye Santa Maria e o Rali Ilha Lilás, tendo terminado outras 3 em segundo lugar. No final do campeonato, 1,3 pontos separaram Luis Rego e Ricardo Moura, sendo que, neste caso, foram importantes as pontuações relativas a vitórias em especiais de classificação para determinar o resultado e o título final. O Azores Airlines Rallye será certamente uma prova muito interessante de seguir quanto à prestação de Luis Rego Jr. diz respeito, pela evolução notada o ano passado.

The two drivers of Team Além Mar, staged a high season, with many fights for the victory. Luis Rego Jr. managed to win 2 races, Rally Santa Maria and Rally Ilha Lilás, having finished another 3 in 2nd place. At the end of the championship, 1.3 points separated Luis Rego and Ricardo Moura, being that victories in stages were determinant to the result and the decision of the title. The Azores Airlines Rallye will certainly be a very interesting test to follow as far as the performance of Luis Rego Jr. is concerned, by the evolution noted last year.

Sem dúvida, um dos grandes pontos de interesse da prova.

DESCRIPTION AZORES AIRLINES Rallye’s City Show is a demonstration stage and serves as “appetizer” for the main event. Held at Av. Infante D. Henrique, in Ponta Delgada, the City Show will take place under standard rally conditions. Competitors run with three minutes interval between the two and have to go through a route with a length of 3.5 km, specially designed for this purpose.

A Lagoa Stage irá fazer a sua estreia este ano no Azores Airlines Rallye, a contar para o Campeonato FIA da Europa de Ralis (FIA ERC), depois de ter sido estreada no verão passado, aquando de uma prova do Campeonato dos Açores de Ralis. Os seus 2.14 quilómetros de extensão permitirão aos concorrentes experienciar um misto de pisos de asfalto e terra, num género de antevisão do que pode ser esperado durante três dias de prova.

Lagoa Stage will make its debut on ERC-counting Azores Airlines Rallye this year, after being part of an Azorean Rally Champiosnhip, last summer. On its 2.14 kilometre extension, competitors will be able to experience a new stage on a mix of gravel and tarmac surface roads, kind of an appetizer of what to be found during the three days event.

Esta é uma das provas especiais de classificação mais bonitas do AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores com o seu início na zona alta de Vila Franca do Campo. Os concorrentes percorrem toda a primeira parte da prova especial em caminhos agrícolas. Depois de uma ligeira incursão no asfalto, entram numa mata privada que oferece um dos mais bonitos e naturais cenários, onde na maioria das vezes os concorrentes conduzem por áreas ladeadas de flores e árvores. A parte final desta prova especial oferece também momentos únicos, com a passagem nas margens da Lagoa de São Brás.

This is one of the nicest special stages with its start happening in upper Vila Franca do Campo. Competitors run throughout the first part of the special test on agricultural roads. After a brief incursion into asphalt, they return to gravel roads and enter a private forest that offers one of the most beautiful and natural surroundings, where most often the competitors drive lined by fields of flowers and trees. The final part of this special stage also offers unique moments with the passage on the banks of the Lagoa de São Brás (São Brás Lake).

É uma prova especial de classificação exigente onde as qualidades de condução dos concorrentes determinam o sucesso das formações que competem no AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores.

This special stage recreates, in reverse, much of the old Pico da Pedra special stage, famous for its huge jump towards the end of SS. It got its start in Caminho dos Arcos, traveling to the jump zone in reverse, thence along the Batalha Golf Course and come to finish in the Beirais of São Vincente. It is a demanding special stage where competitors driving qualities determine the success of formations competing in.

Tem o seu início marcado por uma descida bastante técnica e acentuada, cruza próximo da estrada regional das Feteiras e volta a subir rumo à estrada de acesso à Vista do Rei – Sete Cidades. Tanto na fase inicial como na fase final, esta especial caracteriza-se pelas zonas onduladas, pelo ritmo imposto pelas características da estrada que os concorrentes percorrem. Zonas estreitas e lentas encadeiam com zonas rápidas e largas, transformando esta numa prova especial de grande nível.

This special stage is often decisive for competitors participating in the SATA Rallye Açores. Got its start marked by a very technical and steep descent, crosses near the regional road of Feteiras and goes back up toward the access road to Vista do Rei, Sete Cidades. From its start to its end, this special is characterized by the undulating areas changing the pace taken by drivers. Nos últimos anos este tem sido o cartão de visita do AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores. Uma paisagem de cortar a respiração, estradas estreitas e muito rápidas percorridas no topo da cratera de um vulcão adormecido, com as lagoas das Sete Cidades como pano de fundo e eis que naturalmente surge a classificação como “uma das mais belas provas especiais de classificação do mundo”. Sendo a mais extensa do rali, esta prova começa na Freguesia e percorre as duas cumeeiras das Sete Cidades. É uma das provas especiais que recebe mais público e que algumas vezes é transmitida em directo pelo canal televisivo Eurosport.

In recent years this has been the business card of AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, former SATA Rallye Açores. A breath taking landscape, narrow roads and fastly driven the top of the crater of a dormant volcano, with the lagoons of the Sete Cidades as a backdrop and behold, there comes the stage classified as “one of the most beautiful special stages of the world”. Being the longest of the rally, this event begins at Vista do Rei and runs the two gables of the Sete Cidades. It is one of the special stages which receives more spectators.

Esta é a prova especial de classificação que menos alteração sofreu ao longo dos anos e que é uma embaixadora do AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, antigo SATA Rallye Açores. Com início na Vila do Nordeste, a prova especial “Tronqueira” percorre a zona de Floresta até ao Pico Bartolomeu, passando pelo Miradouro da Tronqueira e descendo depois no sentido do Faial da Terra. Mesmo à entrada da Mata dos Bispos o rali ruma à vila da Povoação, mudando o piso integralmente de características, passando pelo Monte Simplício e terminando na Lomba do Botão. É a catedral dos ralis a nível nacional e é uma prova especial de classificação que não deixa nenhum concorrente indiferente. Alguns pilotos até dizem que passaram pelo Parque Jurássico.

This is the special stage hat suffered less change over the years and it’s a true symbol of AZORES AIRLINES Rallye, former SATA Rallye Açores. Beginning in the Nordeste village, the special stage “Tronqueira” runs through the forest zone to the Pico Bartolomeu, through Tronqueira belvedere and then down towards the Faial da Terra. Right on the entrance of Mata dos Bispos, the rally heads to Povoação village, with the gravel characteristics strongly changing. It runs aside Monte Simplício and ends at Lomba do Botão. It is called the cathedral of rallies nationwide and is a special stage that leaves no one indifferent. Some drivers said they pass through the Jurassic park.
