BEAGLE FIELD TRIAL
West Tennessee OUTDOORS
The Charlston Beagle Club held a field trial that was much HAPPY BIRTHDAY fun for all in attendance this past Saturday. It was located with Ray Jones BABY SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO at a private farm in Fayette Happiest of Birthdays BILL numberonecoach@hotmail.com County. MCCRARY. Praying it is full or 731-694-8614. The members invite friends to of love, peace, happiness and participate in a friendly rabbit cigars! - Tori Haliborton chasing contest and it is hard to tell who or what had the most fun. Rabbits are running all over the place while beagles sing their favorite songs. Everyone in attendance get to hear the races and the music is like that of a concert with many different artists performing. As much fun as that is the biggest thrill is that of the men socializing and eating everything from catfish and pig tails to wild game. There were participants from all over Tennessee as well as Mississippi and Idaho. People bragged on their hounds and told some tales that made everyone laugh. Just when I thought I had heard it all the funniest thing I heard then was when one dog ran a deer that the owner said would not run deer. His friend replied that the only reason the beagle ran the deer was because the rabbit caught a ride on the deer back and the hound was still running the rabbit (not the deer). THE PHOTO IS SOUL BROTHERS HAVING FUN AT THE FIELD TRIAL.

Jackson, TN - September 18, 2020 – Calvin Cole a/k/a “Fathead,” 46, of Jackson, TN, has been sentenced to 170 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. D. Michael Dunavant, U.S. Attorney announced the sentence today. According to information presented in Court, in April 2017, agents with the 28th Judicial District Drug Task Force received a phone call from a concerned citizen that a heavyset male traveling to and from a residence on London Road in Alamo, Tennessee, was selling “dope” regularly. Agents conducted surveillance and observed Cole on an almost daily basis arrive at a residence on London Road, driving different automobiles on different days and distributing crack cocaine throughout the day. Throughout the investigation, it was determined that multiple people would approach Cole and exchange money and crack cocaine. In March of 2016 and April of 2016, agents with the Drug Task Force and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation made five separate undercover drug transactions with Cole on separate dates utilizing multiple reliable confidential sources (CSs) to purchase crack cocaine. Agents continually monitored the CSs throughout the meeting with Cole; after each transaction, the CS would turn over the crack cocaine to agents. The substance was then forwarded to the DEA crime laboratory for analysis, which determined that the substance was crack cocaine. The transactions also included a co-defendant, identified as Tony “Bone” Douglas. Douglas was seen on surveillance video assisting Cole with distributing crack cocaine. Douglas would arrive to the location site prior to Cole’s arrival, search the customers for wires, and then sell crack cocaine to the large number of customers. Douglas was previously sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his involvement in the drug conspiracy. Other co-defendants, including Arvis “Shorty” Ball of Alamo, TN, and Bob Terry of Bells, TN were part of the Calvin Cole Drug Trafficking Organization, and were indicted along with Cole and Douglas in February, 2018. On September 16, 2020, U.S. District Court Judge J. Daniel Breen sentenced Cole to 170 months in federal prison followed by five years supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. United States Attorney D. Michael Dunavant said: “Fathead Cole and his fellow drug dealers will no longer sell poison for profit with impunity. We will not tolerate illegal drug activity disrupting and destroying the daily lives of citizens in our small communities, and this lengthy sentence will rightly punish and incapacitate Cole for his harmful criminal conduct. This is a high impact case that will improve public safety and the quality of life in Crockett County and across West Tennessee.

JACKSON “DO THE WRITE THING” CHALLENGE HONORS LOCAL WRITERS On September 11, 2020, the Jackson “Do the Write Thing” Challenge recognized middle school students from across the district for their participation in the program during a luncheon sponsored by Mayor Scott Conger at Jackson City Hall. This year, over 400 middle school students in the Jackson-Madison County School System accepted the challenge and submitted writings to express how violence impacts their lives. From those submitted, six students were selected as School Ambassadors representing Northeast Middle School, Rose Hill Middle School, Jackson Careers and NURA ALHADDAD Technology Middle School and Pope Elementary School: 6 th Grade: Kaydence Jackson, Mason Blankenship 7 th Grade: Diya Govin, Desmond Subbery 8 th Grade: Nura Alhaddad, Jaylen Hill “I want to thank Councilman Brooks for his tireless work in the area of youth violence prevention. I am proud to support his effort and this program as our city seeks solutions to this challenge”, said Mayor Conger. The Challenge gives students an opportunity to examine the impact of JAYLEN HILL youth violence on their lives in classroom discussions and in written form by communicating what they think should be done to change our culture of violence. By encouraging students to make personal commitments to do something about the problem, the program ultimately seeks to empower them to break the cycles of violence in their homes, schools and neighborhoods. Jackson City Councilman, Ernest Brooks II, founded and has chaired this program for thirteen years. During his tenure, over 10,000 students from the Jackson Madison County School System have accepted the Challenge and submitted writings. The school ambassadors were honored during a ceremony in the City Council Chamber that included readings from the students, presentation of awards and remarks from the Mayor and Superintendent Dr. Marlon King. Also, the girl and boy, who submitted the most responsive writings, were announced as the National Ambassadors. Kimberly Dilden was honored as Teacher of Year and the Jackson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was recognized for their continued support. The National Ambassadors, Nura Alhaddad and Jaylen Hill both former students of Kimberly Dilden at Northeast Middle School participated in a virtual National Recognition Event on September 12 th and 13 th sponsored by the National Campaign to Stop Violence. The event included a presentation recognizing the introduction of student writings into the Library of Congress, speeches by noted authors about speaking and writing about youth violence and question/answer opportunities for students and parents. Brooks, II, states, “A Coalition of business, educational and governmental leaders has forged a lasting partnership to prevent youth violence in our community. I applaud the student participants for their willingness to take a stand against youth violence. They are learning to better voice their life experiences and create turning points that effect prevention.” TELL THEM YOU READ IT IN T H E
