DAY TRIPS AROUND WEST TENNESSEE

West Tennessee OUTDOORS

West Tennessee has an abundant of places to go for day trips. If you’re not with Ray Jones taking any you are missing SEND THOSE PHOTOS TO out on lots of fun and numberonecoach@hotmail.com adventure. or 731-694-8614. My church does parking lot service and when we finish service we ride to a different city each Sunday.Ê It is a good way to social distance and take your family on a trip that will seem like you went farther than you actually traveled. The good thing about West Tennesse day trips is that they only take 30 minutes to an hour to get almost anywhere in our area. Most towns border other towns that have exciting opportunities for free or little of nothing. There is everything from Reelfoot Lake Resort which has all sorts of activities that you might be aware of such as eagle watching and lake tours along with fishing, hunting and many eating places. Brownsville has the Delta Heritage Center which is free and offer things you could never imagine such the Tina Turner museum, Cotton museum, Blues museum among other things. There is Davy Crockett Lake, Chickasaw Resort, Lake Graham, Gibson County Lake, Beech Lake, Hatchie Refuge and the list goes on. Most of the places offer much more than just fishing and they are all in the outdoors. When you are looking for something to do in the good old outdoors of West Tennessee consider a day trip with the kids for free. PHOTO IS MIRANDA JONES AT REELFOOT LAKE.

CITY COURT CLERK JOINS “PROTEST AGAINST DISTRICT ATTORNEY” CALLS INDICTMENT “RIDICULOUS” Jackson City Court Clerk has joined the protest against District Attorney General Jody Pickens. ÊLast week Daryl Hubbard joined the community protest lead by activist Tracy Boyd in front of the State Office building in downtown Jackson. Hubbard continued speaking out against “petty arrest, and petty charges that have no foundation against people,” said Hubbard.Ê Hubbard spoke to media outlets including appearing with Dan Reaves on 93.1 WTJS with continued assertions that the root of the indictment against his chief city court clerk was racially motivated. Ê Hubbard stood firm with Dan Reaves when he was repeatedly asked by Reaves if Hubbard thought that District Attorney Jody Pickens is a racist? ÊHubbard continued to assert that people are either “racist or non-racist.”Ê Hubbard joined Boyd and a group of family members and friends of people who have been charged, in front Jody Pickens State Office in downtown Jackson.Ê Citizens are calling for the release of Jamaine Tipler, Cordell Long and Roddarous Woods, who are charged with attempted first degree murder. Hubbard said he supports one is his former employees, Shenile Ward who protestors say also was wrongfully prosecuted by the DA. The indictment is part of a State Comptrollers office investigation into Hubbard’s office which alleged case information was not being reported to a state database as required by law. Additionally state investigators claim information was intentionally inserted into the wrong fields in a computer system, concealing failure to appear cars from the state and hindering officials from promptly suspending drivers license. SELMER, Tenn. — A McNairy County man has pleaded guilty to charges related to an alleged drug trafficking conspiracy. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, 41year-old Nickolas Atkins pleaded guilty to his alleged role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. In March 2018, investigators began looking into alleged drug trafficking activities by another individual, according to a news release. The release says investigators believed large quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine and hydrocodone pills were being trafficked by individuals in Mexico and into West Tennessee. Investigators believe Atkins was a member of that organization. In April 2019, Atkins was one of 19 people indicted on three counts related to the investigation. Atkins was later released on bond, but investigators using a confidential informant were able to buy hydrocodone pills from Atkins while he was on pre-trial release, the release says. Atkins faces a minimum of 10 years on the charges.

Reader Writes . . . New Proof of UFOs

WE VOTED!!

Thursday, 10-22-2020

I can now tell you without hesitation that UFOs are real. Why? Because I saw one with my own eyes. I’m not sure where the craft was from. Possibly from Mars. Maybe from another galaxy. More likely from Earth. At around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2000, I was standing in a parking lot in Dallas talking to my Latvian friend Robert Kronkalns. Facing northwest, I noticed a large triangular object moving southwest across the sky. It had no lights and was completely silent. It was not easy to see. Tone on tone. It was like spotting a clear jellyfish on the surface of the ocean. I tried to point it out to Robert but he couldn’t pick it up. But once I had seen the thing, I was locked onto its path. I followed the slow moving craft until buildings blocked my view.

Now you might be thinking, OK, if Robert couldn’t see anything, maybe you were just dreaming. That’s fair. If I were reading this, I might be thinking the same thing.Ê But on the following Monday, The Dallas Morning News ran an article titled, “UFO catches

the attention of Missouri police officers,” with the subtitle, “Arrowheadshaped object that soared across early morning sky is unidentified.” The article reported that “in the last few days” at least four

town to look for the UFO. Looking west, he spotted it. Officer Stevens thought to himself, “Wow, this thing’s huge,” according to the Dallas newspaper. Officer Stevens’ account of the object moving slowly was exactly what I

officers from three different police departments reported seeing a triangular UFO flying southwest across the sky. The first call came in to the Highland, Missouri police station from someone who was driving into Lebanon, MO. So the Highland PD contacted the Lebanon PD about the sighting. An officer in Lebanon laughed when he heard the dispatcher’s report. But he spotted the craft headed towards Shiloh, MO and followed it in his car for a period of time.ÊÊ Later, Officer Craig Stevens of the Millstadt, MO police department heard the radio chatter and drove to the north side of

observed. There was only one difference: The UFO that he saw had lights. What I saw was completely dark. But officer Stevens saw the UFO at 4 a.m. when most people were asleep. We can only assume that the pilots, whatever planet they were from, were smart enough to turn the lights off while flying a UFO over Dallas at 10 o’clock at night. (Even earthlings know how to turn the lights off on an airplane.) It turns out that such sightings are not unusual. In fact, the History Channel reports that there are more than 17,000 case files concerning sightings of large, triangular UFOs. An article

on their website says, “Why do so many reports involve strange, triangularshaped craft – often described as dark in color, virtually noiseless and the size of a football field or larger? What, exactly, are they? And why are so many witnessed hovering or moving slowly and methodically, with no visible contrails?” Lest you think those of us who claim to have seen a UFO are kooks and crackpots, let me point out that The New York Times reported in July that the U.S. government has a special department at the Pentagon called the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force, which has operated under one or more other names since 2007 and has had a previously reported budget of $22 million.Ê The Times article reported that Florida Senator Marco Rubio, acting chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said he was “primarily concerned about reports of unidentified aircraft over American military bases – and that it was in the government’s interest to find out who was responsible.”Ê Maybe the Pentagon agency will work hard to discover what these craft really are. Or perhaps they will focus on ensuring that they remain unidentified.Ê In the meantime, look up. You never know what you will see. Pat Patey patey3370@outlook.com

SHERIFF JOHN MEHR ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING TRIAL JUDGEMENT

The CSENews

Brown Beat By ‘Downtown’ Rickey Brown rickeylynnbrown@hotmail.com

DAVID THOMAS - wnws.comÊÊOCTOBER 20, 2020 Statement Regarding Judgment in Sheriff John Mehr’s Lawsuit Seeking Raises for Deputies and Detention Specialists – Today, Madison County Sheriff John Mehr announced that Judge William Acree, at the conclusion of a 4 day trail, ordered that Madison County fund a 7% raise for all certified Deputies and Detention Specialists employed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The Judge’s ruling recognized that the Madison County Sheriff’s Office current salaries for those employees were not competitive and were creating problems with hiring and the ability to retain employees in the Sheriff’s office. The Judge also held that removing certain administrative positions within the Sheriff’s Office, as the county had asked, was not authorized by law and would not serve the public good. Sheriff Mehr said he was pleased with the Judge’s ruling, and that Judge Acree recognized the hard, dangerous and often unpleasant work done by his Deputies and Detention Specialists. Sheriff Mehr said the ruling also recognized that he could not properly and efficiently fulfill his duties without being budgeted appropriate funding by the county to provide competitive pay for his employees. Sheriff Mehr also pointed out that Deputies and Detention Specialists must confront, on a daily basis, society’s most difficult and persistent problems such as mental illness, domestic abuse and substance abuse. He said they should be adequately paid for their efforts.

There was a question raised at the monthly board meeting media briefing around the validity of my comment regarding no transmission of COVID-19 amongst students in schools. Should my team or I ever misspeak, we are not above correcting, as we all will make human errors. My comments on Thursday, however, were accurate and verified - not only by our Coordinated School Health administrator, but also by the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.Ê

CITY COURT CLERK JOINS “PROTEST CONT’D FROM PAGE 3 Hubbard responded by saying; “it was a clerical error by his staff and not official misconduct or forgery. The City Judge has ruled the individual indigent and staff were trying to help the person get his drivers license back in order to get a job.Ê Hubbard continued to complain that the District Attorney sent four sheriffs deputies to his office to arrest her on two felony charges of forgery and official misconduct.Ê Hubbard has maintained from the beginning there was a clerical error and that her arrest was “unnecessary and petty.”Ê “The District Attorney will see that spending thousands of dollars to prosecute a clerical error makes no sense economically, judicially, morally, civically and socially,” Daryl Hubbard Hubbard said. Protestors also took their protest to Jody Pickens home in north Jackson, however; Hubbard did not participate in those protest. Ê A family member of District Attorney General Pickens said; “it is one thing to protest at someone’s work place, however it is wrong to protest at someone’s home.”Ê District Attorney General Pickens said he did not have a comment on the protest at this time.
