SMALL GAME HUNTING OPENS NOVEMBER 7 Hard to believe but it is now open season on rabbits , quail and a few other small game in West Tennessee. Rabbit and quail season opens on the first Saturday in November and excites many outdoorsmen around the area. Raccoon and squirrel seasons have already opened and they will all run through February 28, 2021. The daily bag limits are 5 rabbits, 6 quails, 10 squirrels and 2 raccoons. Small game hunters look forward to opening day from the time the season closes until it opens back up again.Ê The thrill of getting in the outdoors can only be compared to a child waiting on Christmas to open new toys they have been waiting on all year.Ê Many rabbit hunters have new dogs they can’t wait to get into the woods and some can’t wait to try out new shotguns, new boots and new hunting gear. It is just a great time to be in the good old Outdoors of West Tennessee. If you haven’t started hunting it is never too late to pick up one of the oldest and most rewarding hobbies in the outdoors. Be sure to take the kids so they too can develpo a lifelong love of the great outdoors.

...

Say her name rally On October 4, we participated in #SAYHERNAMEBREONATAYLOR MARCH in Humboldt, Tennessee. Once again we as a race of people will not support a great and wonderful cause. I have three sons and I am very protective of each of them. My voice will always be heard for what I believe and stand for. My sons, my husband, nor myself are immune from anything of this nature. It could very well happen to us. Whatever anyone do that is wrong, unfair, or unjust, I WILL NOT BE SILENT!!!!!! I f I have to stand by myself, my voice will be HEARD!!!!! It was very crispy outside, but it was worth every step that we took. I commend Rev. David Willis for organizing and moving forward with the March despite the very small outcome. But that’s one thing about me, it doesn’t matter how large or small the number is, it’s what in the heart . Rev. Willis, don’t give up or give in. We will always support you as long as I know that what you are doing is for a good cause and the betterment for our community. - Gwendolyn Thomas

HARD FACTS TO FOLLOW We live in a world of instant communication where anyone can get their voice out to the people with just a few strokes of the keyboard. This can either be bad or good. One result of this is that more people are now influenced by social media in all it’s forms than probably by any other sources. It does not help that what we used to consider to be conventional news sources are anything but conventional these days and most of us only read or view information that fits our preconceptions. We do not want our minds to be changed but only reinforced. Another result of this is that opposite viewpoints often leads to disagreements among people. Sometimes these can turn ugly. Often in such cases the “atomic weapon” is dropped. That weapon is the fact-checker. The fact-checker is the all-knowing, last word on the matter. The fact-checker settles the argument, or so many people think. What is a fact-check service? To begin, most of them have the term “independent” attached to them, but is anything really independent? No company nor their employees are going to work for free, so the next question is “Independent of what”? Certainly not money or it’s influence. All fact-check services are financed by a person, a group, or a foundation. The employees are always going to go about business in a way that reflects their employers views - that is if they want to keep getting paid. To see the history and purpose of a fact-check service requires time and research. Who is involved? Who works for the service? What are their backgrounds? Who funds the service? What do they believe? Finding those answers takes more effort that most of us are willing to go to. My hope for you is that you realize that when someone invokes a fact-checker to quell a disagreement or close down a discussion between two people that they are essentially just involving a third person to offer theirÊown opinion. No more, no less. It’s certainly not the last word on the matter. It’s just another persons word. You have a right to human expression and you don’t need someone holding your intellectual hands for you and telling you what to think. Factcheckers often paint their answers in ways to influence your thinking. A person they deem to have spoken an untruth might be called a “liar” if they don’t like them them while a person that speaks the same untruth might be described as having “mis-spoken” or might have been in error “based on the information as they understood it at the time” if they like them. There are many examples of how this works, but I think you get the point. The message I’m trying to convey is that you should not feel compelled to think that your own thoughts carry less weight or importance than those of someone with a tag attached to their name such as expert, scientist, leader, or even fact-checker. Listen to the thoughts of others but at the end of the day know that your own thoughts and opinions are what is most important to you. There is probably not a source of “higher intelligence” behind a keyboard somewhere to be an overlord to your thought. You do not need to feel inferior. That’s a fact. You can check it.
