Because all deer in the CWD Unit must be tested it puts a hold the consumption of the venison until results are Send photos to: numberonecoach@hotmail.com in. Usually the consumption time for deer harvested could be less than a week compared to four to six weeks now. or 731-694-8614 TWRA is still encouraging hunters to know and follow the laws pertaining to CWD zones. Deer are more likely to spread the disease if they eat from the same feeding areas and salt licks. Hunters are asked not to feed deer in season and limit salt licks location to prevent deer from passing diseases along. Even deer processors are feeling the pain with freezers full of deer that hunters haven’t picked up waiting on test results. Although all those problems exist the thrill of Deer Hunting for a trophy buck in West Tennessee is still as good as it gets.

DOMINO’S EMPLOYEE KILLS ROBBER

by: Melissa Moon- Posted: Dec 9, 2021 wreg.com 28 year old Jahquille Kodarius Dubose was pronounced dead on the scene. The other robber was seen running from the scene. Some of those in Bolivar who heard about the shooting said they were finding it hard to sympathize with the robber who was killed. “I’m sad he was robbing them. He knew what was coming. Just my opinion,” said a resident. Sani Patel owns a convenience store around the corner from the Domino’s. He said he wasn’t open at the time but heard about what happened from his customers. “They worry about me because it happened near me,” said Patel. “You never know. They told me to be careful.” Police do not have a good description of the second robber but said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

“At the WRONG Place at the WRONG Time”

And Your Point is . . .

Rosetta Perry -Cont’d from page 3

During a sold-out celebration on Sunday, December 5, Miller-Perry, the trailblazing 2019 National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, captured another high honor. “Yes, the 30th anniversary of the Tennessee Tribune certainly has to be celebrated here in Nashville, but this is global,” NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. declared to the hundreds gathered at the Lighthouse on the Lake in Hendersonville. “As of this day, we claim [Miller-Perry] as the Queen Mother of the Black Press of America,” Dr. Chavis exclaimed as the crowd rose to its collective feet, responding with a thunderous ovation of approval. The crowd featured several notable dignitaries, including NNPA Chair Karen Carter Richards, Houston Forward Times Associate Editor Jeffrey Boney, Tennessee State University President Dr. Glenda Glover, Nashville Mayor Jim Cooper, and U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.). Ambassador and Gospel Legend Dr. Bobby Jones served as the introduction speaker, while Dr. Chavis provided the keynote address. “This is a tremendous honor for me to celebrate with Rosetta Perry,” Dr. Glover told NNPA Newswire. “We’re so pleased to have someone so courageous and eager to assist in making things right here in Nashville. We really appreciate her because she’s such an institution here and throughout the state of Tennessee.” In November, The Tennessee Tribune, which opened a store in the Nashville Airport, remains as integral today as it was when it began 30 years ago, Dr. Jones asserted. “Perhaps even more so,” Dr. Jones remarked. “The impact of health disparities, the educational gap, and the voting rights are among the other critical concerns that this wonderful media piece has exposed in our city,” Dr. Jones continued. “The Tennessee Tribune is pressing on and still here, and we want it to be that way for a long time.” A longtime supporter of the Tribune, Mayor John Cooper, called Miller-Perry “a force of nature.” “She began as a pioneer in the industry, and she’s been speaking the truth no matter what,” Mayor Cooper stated. “That’s why, 30 years later, her words speak to our conscious. She advocates passionately for the future of our city, for affordable housing, for HBCUs, for our communities, and for us to have a better city.” The Tribune reaches more than 150,000 readers with its unique perspective on the issues and concerns of African Americans. The weekly newspaper has become a lifeline for many who desire the unvarnished truth. It also provides a window into the historical life of Miller-Perry. She joined the U.S. Navy in 1954, and Miller-Perry supported the Civil Rights Movement and joined Dr. Martin Luther King in marches from Selma to Washington. As a federal observer for the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, Miller-Perry arrived in Memphis during the 1968 sanitation workers strike when an assassin’s bullet cut down Dr. King. She remained in government service until she started the Tribune in 1991. Determined to bring a Black perspective and speak truth to power, Miller-Perry remained steadfast in operating the Tribune even after banks repeatedly turned down her loan requests. “I’ve been in this business for 30 years, and it was tough,” Miller-Perry insisted. “Many times I’ve had to fight with advertisers, and one time, it almost broke me,” she said. Miller-Perry relayed a story of integrity and activism when Sen. Barack Obama sought the presidency in 2007. “When Obama ran for office, I was so naïve that I went and got the names of every unregistered Black voter in the city of Nashville, and I had the nerve to print those names,” she recalled. “I had a company that paid us over $100,000 a year to advertise, and I banked on that [money],” she continued. “We had to bank on that to print, and they closed me down. [However], when they did that, another company came and paid the same amount. Eventually, the other company came back to us, but it has been a struggle for all Black newspapers.” More at: blackpressusa.com

A Christmas Blessing

A few weeks ago, I was outside getting my Christmas tree together being it had been storage. As I was taking the Christmas ornaments from the box I setting what I didn’t need on the side the road, a young gentleman and his daughter stopped and he asked was I throwing those things away. I answered yes. The little girl said are you throwing your tree away. I said no and as I started to turn around she asked if I had another tree. I said no. She said I wished I had a tree to hang my moms angel on. My first thought was “Why your daddy can’t buy you a tree?” But my heart said you can this one but lets gather everything I have for the tree first. As I got the stuff together to give to her dad, she said God loves you. I say this to say that: You never know what somebody needs and you never know what somebody is going through. I was glad I was able to bless her with a Christmas tree, because We will have Christmas here with or without a tree. Edith Thomas

Where is the right place? What is the right time? There are so many questions that circulate when tragedy strikes. Questions of who, why, and how are asked. The question that I want to ask you, the reader! Where is the right place? What is the right time? Recently I read in the CrimeSEEN that Humboldt Police Department Lt. Tony Williams stated, “We think they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.” “At the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time.” Honestly in my opinion, I believe that to be a bunch of BS in certain cases and situations. The places that are supposed to be a safe haven and anodyne have become the most treacherous. Churches, football games, basketball games, movie theaters, parks, schools, and even in your own homes are not safe. What many of us have to realize is this, you can be in the right place, but be surrounded by the wrong people. You will never know the intentions of someone just by looking at them. Where is the right place? What is the right time? What does it mean being at the wrong place at the wrong time? Humboldt High School recently experienced the “being at the wrong place at the wrong time.” During a basketball game November 30, 2021, a man was killed, one injured, and the other, a nineteen year old male lies paralyzed from the shoulders down today. Are you not safe at a basketball game? Iran Moreno-Balvaneda, a thirteen year old from Pasadena, California, was killed in his bedroom by a stray bullet while playing his video game on November 22, 2021. Are you not safe in your own bedroom? What about the recent Oxford High School mass shooting in Oxford Township, Michigan? Four students were killed and seven people were injured. Are you not safe in school? July 20, 2012 a mass shooting occurred in Century 16 Movie Theater in Aurora, Colorado. Twelve people were killed and 70 others were injured. Are you not safe watching a movie? Let’s not forget about the Charleston church massacre. On June 17, 2015, in Charlestown, South Carolina, nine African Americans were killed during a Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Among those people who were killed was the senior pastor, state senator Clementa C. Pinckney. Are you not safe in church? Last but not least, the Trayvon Martin murder. A black seventeen year old was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman. He was on his way home from a local convenience store and was gunned down like a deer in hunting season. Are you not safe to walk from a store? Many innocent people have lost their lives by being in the right place. They weren’t in the wrong place, and it wasn’t the wrong time. I’ve cited just a few incidents that can justify my saying, “Being in the right place surrounded by the wrong people.” Now the question remains; where are you safe at? By Nicholas D. Subject to Change BY MARILYN L. TAYLOR

A reflection on my students They are so beautiful, and so very young they seem almost to glitter with perfection, these creatures that I briefly move among. I never get to stay with them for long, but even so, I view them with affection: they are so beautiful, and so very young. Poised or clumsy, placid or high-strung, they’re expert in the art of introspection, these creatures that I briefly move among— And if their words don’t quite trip off the tongue consistently, with just the right inflection, they remain beautiful. And very young. Still, I have to tell myself it’s wrong to think of them as anything but fiction, these creatures that I briefly move among— Because, like me, they’re traveling headlong in that familiar, vertical direction that coarsens beautiful, blackmails young— the two delusions we all move among. CHRISTMAS TRAVEL TAKE CARE OF YOUR HOME

By: Jimmy Leach, Columnist

We love to go visit relatives and friends over the holidays, but nobody wants to come home to a trashed house! 30 Jackson Creek Dr

SOLD!!!! Thank you Neal!!

IF YOU ARE GONE FOR A LONG TIME GIVE THE APPEARANCE SOMEONE IS HOME! If you have a landline home phone, have your calls forwarded, if possible, when away from home for an extended time. Burglars will sometimes check to see if someone is home by making a telephone call to the home to see if anyone answers. • Make sure relatives or other friends have a good idea of your itinerary. • Be sure someone you trust knows; • When you are leaving. • When you should return. • The description of the vehicle or vehicles you will be traveling in or any flight numbers and schedules. • How to contact you while you are gone. If you are away for more than a day, have a trusted neighbor pick up the mail and newspaper or other deliveries that may be made. • Remember, if you have deliveries stopped, you are telling someone that you are not going to be home. • If you are away for an extended period of time, have a plan in place to have the grass mowed or snow shoveled. • Place radios and TV’s on automatic timers and turn up the volume so they can be heard outside, giving the appearance someone is home. • Have interior and exterior lights set on an automatic timer too. You might also have a trusted neighbor do it for you if you do not have a timer. • A friend or neighbor should have a key to your house in case of emergency. • There are systems available that will open and close window draperies by timer. • Curtains that are open or closed for days at a time can tip the burglar off that no one is home. • Put your alarms in “away mode” and make sure your entry, motion, glass break, and any panic alarms are armed. • Do Not advertise the fact that you are away from home on social media, just wait until you get home to show off the pictures!!
