Memphis Police arrested 28-year-old Tyrell Webb after he confessed to raping a woman in mid-February. According to police, the victim was asleep and intoxicated in her home at the 3200 block of Morningside Street when Webb used a key he obtained from a mutual friend to go inside.

MARCH 14, 2018 - MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman is behind bars after allegedly hitting her boyfriend with her car over drugs. Police said the victim called 911 from the Valero gas station in the 3400 block of Summer Avenue on Tuesday.

Ray was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

ACCUSED OF SHOOTING UP TWO SOUTHEAST MEMPHISÊHOMES MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old woman is behind bars after allegedly sending bullets flying into not one, but two Southeast Memphis homes Friday morning. “It shot through this door, and it shot through the bathroom.”Ê Nearly every corner of Alfred Bates’ home has a bullet hole in it. Police say 18-year-old Termeria Harris and two others shot up the Southeast Memphis home. Gavontai McDonald Bates’ granddaughter says right before the shooting, Harris went live on Facebook and threatened to kill her daughter. Police say after the shooting, the woman Harris was after and two friends went to a house on Fox Lair about two miles away. Investigators say that home was also shot up several hours later. No one was hurt in either shooting, but Harris is now facing 12 counts of attempted first degree murder.

March 10, 2018 HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn — All week long Haywood County sheriff’s deputies have been searching for two suspects wanted on attempted murder charges. Investigators confirm one of the men has been taken into custody. U.S. Marshals found Tarrence Starks in Rutherford County late Friday night. Starks was wanted on two counts of attempted firstdegree murder and one count of reckless endangerment in connection to a shooting at a Stanton car wash on March 3. The other suspect, Michael Holman, is still on the run. Deputies say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Mr. Duane always brightens the atmosphere when he walks in. MCH was established in 1961 by local ministers in the Jackson and West TN areas. But it didn’t open its doors until 1964 with 17 beds. The Rev. Udell Lewis was the 1st Administrator. He was the grandfather of Duane and James Cherry. After Mr. Lewis passed away, Mrs. Forestine Cherry became administrator. In 1995, Mr. Duane Cherry became administrator. This a family owned business. Mrs. Forestine Cherry worked at MCH for 27 years, James Cherry 26 years, and Duane Cherry for 38 years. Mr. Duane’s wife has worked for the company 11 years. Mission Convalescent Home is one of the top 100 nursing facilities in the country, as cited in US News. It’s a long term care facility. They are dedicated to restoring and maintaining the health of their residents. The residents that live in the facility enjoy home cooked meals, activities, and being with friends all in a family environment. Mission Convalescent Home is licensed by the State of TN, Department of Public Health. They are also approved by several insurance programs, including the Veterans Administration, Medicaid, and medicare programs. The facility received a five star rating for nursing homes in TN.

ALUMNA OF THE MONTH, DR. MONICA CLAYBORNE SCOTT Our Alumna of the Month of March is Dr. Monica Clayborne Scott, a member of the Class of 2006. She is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and a graduate of East High School in Memphis. Dr. Scott is the only child of Mr. Emmitt Johnson and Mrs. Virginia Johnson. She is the daughterin-law of Mr. Greg and Mrs. Sherrill Berry Scott both members of the Class of 1977. Dr. Scott completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Lane College. During her time at Lane College, she was an active member of the Pre-Alumni Council and was initiated into the Beta Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Dean William Smith III, a member of the Class of 2004 and a peer of Dr. Scott stated, “Monica always worked hard to achieve every goal she sat out to achieve. She was outspoken and well-prepared in the classroom. She has always been an encourager to her friends and reminded us all to live our life to our fullest potential.” Dr. Scott stated, “One of my fondest memories of Lane is when I had the opportunity to serve as the advisor for the Pre-Alumni Council. I had the pleasure of working with students who truly loved Lane and wanted to host activities to enhance the student experience and raise funds for the college. It was at this time that we established the Mr. Lane College pageant. I’m excited that this is a continued tradition that is happening at Lane and I’m very proud of that accomplishment.” She is married to Dr. Ian D. Scott, who is also a higher education administrator. They are the parents of two children, MaKensie Grace-Marie (10) and Ian Gregory (5). They are members of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church of New Orleans, Louisiana. Highlights of the event was the moving and emotional speech delivered by Jalan Sowell, an outstanding athlete who was stricken with a life threatening during his senior year in high school .His story of triumph was featured on a Make A Wish documentary shown at the banquet. Sowell’s address was both encouraging and inspiring. Awards were then given to players and their respective coaches. Dwana spent her life promoting her famous fathers legend and she stood for law enforcement, justice and equality like her father .Ê There has been numerous books, songs, television shows and another remake movie made about the Pusser saga.Ê Dwayne Johnson the Rock played Buford Pusser in the most recent remake of the story. Dwana stood for Law and Justice and her fathers legacy will continue to live on as she has left us.Ê She had two daughters, Madison and Atoyia and one step brother Mike Vance from Savannah.Ê “I spoke with Dwana almost daily and will miss her love warmth and yearly challenge to organize the Sheriff Buford Pusser festival held in May of each year,” added Brown.

Jackson Chamber announces promotion of Russell Cook to CFO Thursday, March 8, 2018 –ÊRussell Cook has been named Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Jackson Chamber. Cook recently served as manager of accounting for the chamber. As CFO, Cook will continue to oversee all financial planning, record keeping, and reporting for the chamber. He will additionally Cook assume responsibilities to include executive committee and board meeting functions, as well as past chairman meetings. “Russell has been a key member of our team for five years,” says Jackson Chamber President and CEO Kyle Spurgeon. “During that time all financial reporting, as well as yearly budget results, continues to beat initial estimates. Russell is the centerpiece of the chamber’s conservative and well managed financial operations.” Ê Cook joined the chamber staff in March of 2013 as manager of accounting, obtaining his CPA the same year. Prior to the chamber, he was the senior accountant at Alexander Thompson Arnold, PLLC. He graduated from Mississippi State University with an undergraduate and masters degree in business. Cook is a member of the Jackson Kiwanis Club, where he serves on the board. Senator Ed Jackson applauds State Building Commission approval for funding of two multi-million dollar projects in Madison County (NASHVILLE) – Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) applauded action taken by the State Building Commission today to approve two new multi-million dollar projects in Madison County.Ê A New Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab and Regional Headquarters – a $24.5 million dollar project – received approval for the early design phase. In addition, the construction of a new Tennessee Highway Patrol District Headquarters in Jackson – an $8.3 million dollar project – received approval for a utility grant. Ê Both projects received a strong show of support by not only being funded in the Governor’s 2016-2017 budget, but also receiving unanimous approval by the commission. “I was pleased with the commission’s vote today on these major projects,” said Senator Jackson. “The new crime lab will benefit all West Tennesseans by providing modern resources and technology for law enforcement, as well as bring dozens of new jobs to the 27th District. The new Tennessee Highway Patrol District Headquarters will provide a much needed improvement to the workspace of our Highway Patrol officers who work hard to keep our roads and citizens safe.” The TBI Crime Lab is expected to be completed in July 2020. It will be named as the Special Agent De’Greaun ReShun Frazier TBI Crime Lab and Regional Headquarters in memory of TBI Special Agent Frazier who was shot and killed during an undercover drug operation in Jackson, Tennessee. “Agent Frazier was a hero. The naming of this building will keep that fact everpresent in our minds for generations to come,” added Jackson. The Tennessee Highway Patrol District Headquarters is expected to be completed in October 2019. The State Building Commission includes Governor Bill Haslam, Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally, House Speaker Beth Harwell, Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Comptroller Justin P. Wilson, Treasurer David Lillard, and Commissioner of Finance & Administration Larry Martin.

Each marcher was fined $5 which was paid by Black business owners in Jackson .Ê Chamber President and Co-Founder Clarence Boone, 78, said that $5 was a lot of money in 1960.Ê “We didn’t have that kind of money,” he emphasized.Ê “We were students.”Ê n another look at the Civil Rights Movement, the African American Chamber presented a video presentation on Tent City , the encampments of Blacks evicted from their homes in Fayette and Haywood counties in 1960 for attempting to vote. The tents – donated by a yet unrevealed white individual — were erected on land owned by Blacks.Ê The Black landowners included Shepherd Towles and Gertrude Beasley in Fayette and others in Haywood County .Ê According to one report, 300 Haywood County families and 400 Fayette County families received eviction notices and were ordered to move by January 1, 1961.Ê According to historians, Tent City provided the catalyst for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1960. (Feb. 28, 2018) – The ETSU men’s basketball team brought home its share of hardware on both the coaches and media All Southern Conference teams announced by the league office on Wednesday, led by senior guard Desonta Bradford (Humboldt), who was named by the coaches as the SoCon Player of the Year. Along with Bradford’s first-team selections by both the coaches and media, Members of Bradford’s family attended his Senior Night game last senior guard Jalan month. Texas) was a second team pick by the coaches and a third team pick by the media, while freshman Bo Hodges (Nashville) was named by the coaches as the league’s Freshman of the Year. Hodges was also an All-Freshman Team selection by both the coaches and media, while fellow freshman Mladen Armus (Belgrade, Serbia) joined him on the coaches All-Freshman squad. Bradford is ETSU’s first SoCon player of the year since Zakee Wadood (Lonoke, Ark.) was selected by both the coaches and media in 2003-04. Bradford becomes the 10th ETSU player to earn player of the year honors.

Bucs Fall In SOCON Championship In a physical championship tilt that featured two teams locking down on defense, the ETSU men’s basketball team was unable to manufacture enough offense to repeat as champions of the Southern Conference. Instead, the UNCG Spartans avenged a loss to these same Buccaneers in last year’s final, taking a tie game at halftime and outscoring ETSU 37-22 in the second half to capture a 62-47 win Monday evening inside the U.S. Cellular Center. With the victory, UNCG earns its first NCAA Tournament bid since 2001. With the loss, the Bucs dropped to 25-9 on the season, while UNCG improved to 27-7. “It was a defensive battle the whole game,” said ETSU head coach Steve Forbes, whose team made its third straight appearance in the SoCon championship. “I thought the first one to 50 would win and we just couldn’t get it going offensively. Give UNCG credit because they have a really good team. I’m proud of our guys and their effort. To see where we were early in the year and where we got to, they have nothing to hang their heads about.” Bradford fouled out with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assist.
