SQUIRREL HUNTING HOUSE DOGS
West Tennessee One of the most often overlooked outdoor activities is squirrel hunting OUTDOORS and when you add dogs it takes it to a whole new level. Just being in the with Ray Jones wilderness is a win win but the addition of dogs to a squirrel hunt is a Send photos to: numberonecoach@hotmail.com bonus. or 731-694-8614 That is just exactly what Josh Poole does when he takes his house dog along. Some dogs are bred to do certain jobs while Dot is bred to do whatever Josh wants her to do. She is a house dog when she is home and a Squirrel dogs when it is time to hit the woods. That is the luxury of having dogs as friends and workers. During this pandemic having dogs are more than just pets because sometimes it is the only contact people have with other living beings. Dot is like a member of the family but has the ability to also put food on the table and provide sporting activities for Josh and his friends when they head to the Great Outdoors of Wet Tennessee. Dot recently helped chase several squirrels up the tree so they could make it to the kitchen table.

As I read books like sundown towns, lies my teacher told me, the color of law, the new Jim Crow and how to be an anti racist, I recognize that white people won’t and can never understand how black people in this country have been treated, and the sad part is that they are so misinformed by the history that they have been taught that they think racism is just black people complaining. History cannot be hidden or ignored just because you don’t want to acknowledge it. Daryl Hubbard

Today’s Sunday Picture is another celebration in Black History via my hometown Jackson, TN. I want to shout out Jackie Beard. Jackie was a national AAU Bantamweight Champion in 1978-79-80. He was the 1978 National Golden Gloves Bantamweight Champion. He made the 1980 Olympic Boxing Team, but because of the U.S. boycott of the games held in Moscow, Russia due to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, he was not able to compete. Jackson TN has produced some great athletes on the national stage, from Too Tall Jones to Al Wilson. Jackie had brothers that were very good boxers as well, Rickey, Aubrey and Obie Beard. But to my knowledge there has only been one Olympian from Jackson and that was Jackie Beard. I wanted to shout you out homeboy. I appreciate the dedication, discipline and heart you displayed in becoming one of the best in boxing. Thanks Conrad Hurt for the assist on this shout out. ULYESSE BRADY

Responding officers located two shooting victims. Both subjects were transported by Emergency Medical Services to local hospitals were one of the gunshot victims was later pronounced deceased. On February 2/25/21, at approximately 21:07, two Madison County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies and one Madison County Sheriff’s Mental Health Transport Unit Deputy, attempted to serve an Emergency Committal Order on an individual who was reportedly staying at the Traveler’s Inn, located at 2247 North Highland Ave. Upon their arrival, Deputies made contact with the individual named in the Emergency Committal Order. The individual immediately became irate and began to display an aggressive demeanor. Deputies attempted to de-escalate the individual’s aggressive behavior by using specialized training they obtained through Crisis Intervention Training. After attempting an intervention, Deputies attempted to gain control of the individual to de-escalate the situation, for their safety and the safety of the individual. At that point, the individual displayed a pair of scissors stabbing one Deputy in the face and one Deputy on the top of his head. The individual was subsequently detained by the deployment of an electronic control device (Phazzer), to gain control of the individual’s aggressive actions. The individual was taken into custody and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault and transported to the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex. The two Deputies were transported to JMCGH and it was determined that they sustained minor injuries. Both Deputies were treated and released. All three deputies relied on the knowledge they obtained from specialized training and displayed a desire and determination to de-escalate the situation without any serious injury or death.

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will extend the mask mandate in Madison County through Mar. 31, 2021. “We’ve seen a decrease in the number of new cases in Madison County,” Regional Director Kim Tedford said. “Masks work and we appreciate everyone doing their part to keep those numbers down.” The Madison County COVID-19 Task Force, which includes city, county, and community leaders, supports the decision to extend the mask mandate. “Our daily case counts are down and fewer Madison County residents are being hospitalized due to COVID-19,” Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris (r) said. “We’re headed in the right direction. Let’s keep it that way. I support the decision to extend the mask mandate another month and am optimistic it will expire soon.” 03-04-21

CSE Reader of the Week: Captain Sam Petty
Exhibit Honors Lane Former Lane Students The dedication of the Woolworth’s Sit-ins Lunch Counter Exhibit was held at #JacksonTN City Hall, Monday, March 1, 2021. On October 13, 1960, the bus boycott began in downtown Jackson, TN, to end segregation. Two weeks later, movement leaders chose white-only lunch counters at Woolworth’s and McLellans as their next target.
On October 27, 1960, at 11:00 AM, a small group of brave Lane College students -- Shirlene Mercer, Kimmie Davis, Ernest Brooks, Sr., and Wesley McClure -- entered Woolworth’s at the corner of E. Main St. and North Liberty St. and sat down at the ‘whites only” lunch counter. The exhibit is on display just outside the George A. Smith meeting room on the first floor.
Mr Petty is a great individual who is enjoying retirement from Jackson Energy Authority. He continues to serve as a Security Captain for Allied Universal Security Services for over seven years. He also serves as a Jehovah’s Witness at the Parkway church. He’s been married 34 years and blessed with four children and grandchildren. He enjoys fishing and playing chess in his spare time. Captain Petty is a loyal reader of the CrimeSEEN Examiner Newspaper and appreciates the quality information and news each week. “The CrimeSEEN Newspaper is my primary source of local area news” appreciate your quality newspaper,” said Petty.
Say No To Socialism Nobody wants socialism in America. What people actually want are citizenship benefits. U.S. citizens are members of a unique club. As members, they pay dues in the form of taxes – from 10% to 37% of their income. The median household income in the U.S is $68,703. At the 22% tax rate, the average amount paid in taxes by the median group per household is $15,114. That’s a lot in membership dues. But those dues come with benefits. Some of the benefits American citizens enjoy are: a free public education, free use of books while in school, public parks with sports fields, public recreation centers, storm and hurricane warnings through the U.S. weather service, disaster relief through FEMA, social security, social security disability insurance, unemployment benefits, Medicare, use of Interstate highways that are maintained by the government, food safety inspections, certification of organic foods, higher education subsidies, subsidies for farmers, and food benefits for hungry families. Adding More Benefits At times, people suggest adding more benefits. Some have claimed this will plunge the country into communism. It won’t. It will enhance the mood of the citizenry and make them even happier to call this great democracy home. Think of the recent and upcoming stimulus checks we’ve been gladly receiving. I’ve not heard of Americans of any stripe burning checks in protest. Nor have I heard anyone say they are worried that this is socialism and will turn America into a communist state. Nope, we’ve been smiling all the way to the bank. Americans pay a lot in membership dues. So there’s nothing wrong with asking what they will get for all the money they pay into the system. It’s like choosing to accept the best job offer because the benefits and perks of working at Company A are better than at Company B. People do it all the time. What those companies are doing is not a form of socialism, as we understand the term today. The companies are providing employee benefits. And good, hard-working Americans don’t bat an eye at taking them. Socialism Now Means Communism

And Your Point is . . . Is This All That You Have To Do In This Legislative Session?
Give me a break!!! Is this all that you have to do in this legislative session? Use your time to help Tennesseans by expanding Medicaid so that low-income, working citizens can get health insurance; increase the minimum wage to a livable wage; make it easier and more convenient to vote; etc. You say that people can peacefully protest and then you want to tell them how and when they can peacefully protest. That’s not your decision to make...the how and when is up to the protestor!!! General Washington never asked King George how and when to protest. Neither should the protestors ask you! Richard Donnell, Sr.
Tennessee’s GOP is wasting time with anti-kneeling efforts instead of actually helping Black communities
Shalise Manza Young·Yahoo Sports Columnist Wed, 24 February 2021 Few things rankle me more than naked hypocrisy and empty gestures. That’s the situation happening in Tennessee. All Republican members of the state senate as well as the lieutenant governor signed a letter sent to the heads of all of the state’s public universities and colleges this week, encouraging them to “adopt policies within your respective athletic departments to prohibit any such actions moving forward” after members of the East Tennessee State men’s basketball team kneeled during the anthem last week. These are the same types of legislators who work to strip LGBTQ community of human rights, yet cry “cancel culture” when an actress gets fired for likening U.S. politics to Nazi Germany. ETSU coach Jason Shay and school president Brian Noland have both publicly said what hundreds of athletes who have kneeled in recent years have said: the silent, peaceful gesture by players was meant to spark discussion about racial inequality, and not to disrespect the American flag or military. The Tennessee legislators had the gall to mention “the ideals upon this great country was founded: that all are created equal and and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Black Americans by and large don’t get those things. That’s why the protesting persists. Are Black Nashville residents receiving the “unalienable right” of life when a 2020 survey of metro-area shows that your ZIP code could lead to a six-year decrease in your life expectancy, or are five times more likely to feel that they’ve been discriminated against by medical professionals than white patients? Are the youngest non-white residents of Shelby County, the most populous in your state, enjoying their “right to happiness” when as of 2018, 45 percent of Black children and 49 percent of Latino children were living in poverty? Are Black Tennesseans receiving their “unalienable right” to liberty when they are incarcerated at nearly four times the rate of white peers and that in a state where 17 percent of the population is Black, 40 percent of prisoners are African American? Where’s your letter about how “offensive and disrespectful” that is, state senators? Has it ever, for even one moment, occurred to you that perhaps if you, maybe even just a little bit, tried to fix these gross disparities that these athletes wouldn’t feel that they had to kneel? Isn’t that why you’re there in the State Capitol, which irony of all ironies, is on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.? Dr. King encouraged non-violent protest. That’s what these athletes are doing when they kneel. The letter also trotted out the now-familiar “they can protest on their own time” trope. That’s a fallacy as well. Sure, they can protest on their own time. But if history is a guide, they’d be painted as thugs or rioters and met with police in full armored gear to make sure they “know their place.” Which, time and again, we’re reminded by others isn’t here. Even though many Black Americans can trace their lineage on these lands back hundreds of years, to the fields their ancestors worked for free under constant threat of violence, whenever we have the temerity to demand what’s promised in this country’s founding documents we’re met with suggestions that we “leave” as though we’re squatters and not builders. If you’re so concerned about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, letting these young people peacefully express themselves — something that as of six months ago 56 percent of Americans agree with — supports that aim. If you’re so concerned about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, doing something to address the racial inequities in your state might actually eliminate the desire to kneel at all. Or you could keep spending your time writing empty letters that simply expose you as hypocrites who’d prefer that Black athletes shut up and dribble.
CAN ANY GOOD THING COME OUT OF HUMBOLDT?
The Humboldt School system is predominantly Black but doesn’t mean our kids are thugs and whores and the perception of some who are on the outside of the city looking in is as such(and some who live and work in the city) and thats a problem for me. I have a problem with people who look at black skin and an ethnic hairstyle and attach the label of trouble to it. The label may not ever change but we can change the culture. Stop giving the keys of the future of our children to those who already have their minds made up about them. You shouldn’t work in our system if you don’t believe in the power of potential for Humboldt City Schools or in the city and community. Every time our teams travel or Humboldt is mentioned people react like there is a foul smell in the room. Some would say it doesn’t matter what others think and thats true to an extent but what do our kids think? Are they buying into what others think about them? If they are whose fault is it? I’m fully aware that there are bad apples in every city but I submit that the good apples outweigh the bad in Humboldt. If the culture changes then the perception changes. Look, its always gone be HUMBOLDT VS EVERYBODY but their is some internal mental deprogramming we have to do in this city. Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Team tonight. I intentionally sat on the opposing teams side tonight just to make sure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me and it wasn’t. Support our system, nature our children and lets mold and make what others say can’t be produced. CAN ANY GOOD THING COME OUT OF HUMBOLDT? Yes. It. Can. Y’all be easy... Pastor David Willis 03-04-21

Tony Brown takes on administrative role full-time North Side coach steps away from basketball after 15 years, 200 plus career wins
JACKSON, Tenn. - Tony Brown, North Side High School’s longtime head basketball coach, is stepping away from coaching to work in school administration full-time. Brown coached the Indians to more than 200 victories during his 15 seasons as head coach. He’s expected to take on a larger role on campus following his elevation to assistant principal. “I am very excited to support Mr. Brown with his transition into school administration. He brings a wealth of academic knowledge and impeccable character to the position. I know he will continue to impact the lives of our students and provide strong leadership and support for our teachers and staff,” said North Side principal Jason Bridgeman. Brown was promoted to school administration at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. He’ll now provide greater support in the areas of teacher development, school-wide operations and student supervision; as well as oversight of the Special Education Department. “After serving as head coach for fifteen years, my decision to step down was difficult. However, it is my aspiration to focus my full attention on administration. It has been a privilege to coach and develop young men to over 200 victories on the basketball court. These accomplishments were made possible through the hard work and perseverance of dedicated players,” Brown said. The Jackson-Madison County School System will begin the search process for a new head boys basketball coach immediately. Interested applicants should forward all credentials to Mrs. Dionne Springfield, North Side’s athletic director, via email at dmspringfield@jmcss.org and District athletic director Tim Gilmer at tkgilmer@jmcss.org. “With our renewed commitment to academics, athletics and the arts, North Side alumni can rest assured we will find the right leader to build upon the progress Coach Brown has made within the North Side basketball program,” Gilmer said.

Father speaks out after 15-year-old dies from shooting in Madison Co.
February 26, 2021 Julia Ewoldt MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Just 15-years-old and a full life ahead of her — now, Asia Woods is buried in the ground, and her father says this could have been prevented. “A straight A student, honor roll student, all around a great child,” said Terrance Woods. But that changed just a few months ago, when Asia stopped living with him. She was put on probation for breaking into cars. And then someone told him this: “‘Asia has joined a gang.’ Asia is not grown. Asia can’t join a gang,” Woods said.
All culminating to a shooting and car chase on February 6. The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened near North Highland and Ashport, and ended near Volunteer Drive, where they found Asia dead in the backseat of the car.
One person is facing charges in the incident: Edtric Devon Rutherford. He faces two counts each of felony murder, attempted first degree murder, and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

NOTICE OF SETTLEMENT
If you were arrested, charged and detained for more than 48 hours by the Jackson City Court between January 18, 2016 and January 18, 2019 and there was no probable cause determination made upon sworn testimony before a qualified judge or court clerk or other legally valid basis for your detention, you could get a payment from a class action settlement. A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit about the arrest and detention and practices of the City of Jackson, Tennessee in the Jackson City Court. If you meet the criteria explained below, you may be able to share in this settlement. The United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee authorized this notice. The Court will have a hearing to decide whether to approve the settlement so that the benefits may be paid. Who’s Included? You are a Class Member and could get benefits if you were arrested, charged and detained for more than 48 hours by the Jackson City Court without a probable cause determination made upon sworn testimony before a qualified judge or court clerk or other legally valid basis for your detention between January 18, 2016 and January 18, 2019. What’s This About? The lawsuit claimed that Defendant City of Jackson, Tennessee had an unlawful practice of detaining arrestees charged with a crime in the Jackson City Court for more than 48 hours without providing them with a probable cause determination made upon sworn testimony before a qualified judge or court clerk or without another legally valid basis for the detention. Defendant denies it did anything wrong. The Court did not decide which side was right, but both sides agreed to the settlement to ensure a resolution and to provide benefits to the people who were affected. What Does the Settlement Provide? Defendant agreed to pay a total of $1,050,000 to settle this case. The settlement provides that each qualified class members who makes a claim will receive $100 per day for each 24-hour period of incarceration after the first 48 hours, up to a maximum of $2,100. The amount of the daily rate could be less if the total amount of the certified claims exceeds the Distribution Amount in which case the daily rate each Class Member will receive will be reduced by a pro-rata amount. Class counsel anticipates that all individuals who make a claim on the settlement will receive between $100.00 and $2,100 as a settlement payment. These amounts are dependent on how many claims are received by the Claims Administrator during the claims period and are subject to change based the number of certified claims received. No amount is guaranteed. There are believed to be approximately 3-5,000 Class Members. You can make a claim for each qualifying period of incarceration during the class period, up to a maximum of $2,100. How Do You Ask For A Payment? A detailed Notice and Claim Form package contains everything you need. Just call 1-866-742-4955 or visit the settlement website, www.rg2claims.com/jackson.html, to get one. To qualify for a payment, you must send in a Claim Form. Claim forms are due by May 20, 2021. What Are Your Other Options? If you want to share in the settlement, all you need to do is obtain a Claim Form, as just explained, and return it according to its directions and the Settlement Administrator will determine if you qualify to participate in the settlement. If you don’t want the settlement benefits or don’t want to be legally bound by the settlement, you must exclude yourself by April 20, 2021 according to the terms of the Court’s Order Preliminarily Approving the Settlement and Settlement Agreement. If you exclude yourself, you can’t get any benefits from this settlement, but you could bring a separate case against the defendants, if you want to. If you stay in the settlement, you may object to it by April 20, 2021 according to the terms of the Court’s Order Preliminarily Approving the Settlement and Settlement Agreement. The detailed notice, available by calling or visiting the website below, explains how to exclude yourself or object. The court will hold a hearing in this case (Cox v. City of Jackson, Docket No. 1:19-cv-01026-JDB-jay on July 21, 2021 at 1:30 p.m., to consider whether to approve the settlement and a request by the lawyers representing all Class Members (Weinman and Associates, Jackson, TN, Jackson, Shields, Yeiser, Holt, Owen and Bryant, Memphis, TN and J.
